Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

It was a big difference but I adapted quite easily tbh. I have plenty routine but am also a pretty chilled person. I did find that going out most of the time rather than staying in was actually much easier as my toddler was occupied and baby slept well when in the pram. I'd recommend finding a good soft play. At my local one someone needs to let you out of the building so you know that once you're in there your toddler can't go anywhere lol. Meant I could have a brew and feed baby whilst she happily played.

People will say leave the housework but for me personally it made me more stressed. I would do stuff like hoovering during the day while as my baby would fall asleep to the noise of it lol, keep on top of pots, as soon as used , wash it if possible. Clothes get washed as soon as there is enough for a full load so it doesn't pile up and I get up early or stay up late to get some other bits done. Me and hubby tag team as well, he will get home from work around 6.15 and have play time with the girls before bed while I make our tea and normally hang washing out. Then after we eat I do bed time. I could go on lol but will take up a whole page 😂😳 . I definitely think though that structure works but you also have to just chill out about stuff and take each day as it comes x

Haha wow Theresa you really will have you hands full! How did you find adapting life and routines when you had a newborn and a toddler? So sorry for everyone TTC their first, really don't want to hijack and make this into a TTC your second thread!

TheresaMarie55 · 12/01/2016 18:15

Two toddlers is hard work but also so much fun! My eldest was ten days off her 2nd birthday when my youngest was born. I started potty training a week after her birthday and although it was hard I was glad to get it done. She took to it well and was completely day time dry after about three months and night time dry at around 2 and a half. We tried her once before my youngest was born and she just wasn't ready. If we fall pregnant quickly we will have a four year old, a two year old and a new born. Fun times ahead lol x

SunnyDays1987 · 12/01/2016 17:21

Yeah I can't say I'm looking forward to two in nappies to be honest! Did it take you long to conceive your DD?

Pointlessfan · 12/01/2016 13:52

She's 21 months and very lively! If I do fall pregnant I hope we'll be able to potty train her over the summer so at least only one would be in nappies.

SunnyDays1987 · 12/01/2016 12:48

Thank you! How old is your DC pointless?

Pointlessfan · 12/01/2016 09:46

Welcome sunny, I'm also nervous about the prospect of a baby and a toddler!

Period started today so hopefully going to start TTC in a couple of weeks - eek!

SunnyDays1987 · 12/01/2016 09:24

Room for another one? I have a DS who has just turned 1 and we are thinking of TTC probably around March ish time. We are in the process of moving house so we need to wait until that has happened. We've both started on the vitamins and I'm not on contraception so hopefully we'll be prepared to start when the time comes. I'd been on the pill for about 10 years before trying for DS and it took about 6 months to get a normal cycle back and then I conceived the month after so have absolutely no idea how long it might take this time. I'm excited but equally absolutely petrified at the thought of being pregnant with a toddler. I did NOT enjoy pregnancy last time!!!

TheresaMarie55 · 12/01/2016 08:16

Morning everyone. Weigh day for me tomorrow, I've been really good so hoping for a decent loss. Got quite a lot planned over the rest of January so hoping it goes quite fast. Don't want to wish the time away but can't help feel I'm just waiting for April now x

Pointlessfan · 11/01/2016 19:57

radders even though I was TTC last time it happened very quickly and so was unexpected! I was on my third glass of fizz at a friend's party when I realised I could be pregnant. I didn't know you are meant to take folic acid before conception so didn't until I knew I was pregnant. DD has turned out fine! I'm not overthinking it this time round either but have started folic acid. I'm hiding them when my mum comes round, don't want her getting all excited!

jiwgli · 11/01/2016 17:39

And radders, I'd always advocate exercise because I had such a terrible time. If you're fitter, you'd be better at it, but I couldn't walk by the end of my pregnancy and the only thing that has fixed the pain and my pelvis is getting fitter. Which tells me I need to seriously look after my body!!

jiwgli · 11/01/2016 17:36

Urgh I had to wait what felt like forever. My dh isn't very good at talking and it took me a year after Ds was born to convince him to consider having a second one day! Then another year went by, and about 6 months ago he said he'd like another BUT he wanted to move house and a few other things. It's so tough to wait it out. I was so often angry because it was MY body and somehow on HIS terms! But, anyway he suggested we just go for it last week and it turns out I am mid-cycle right now (only worked that out when I was writing a shopping list and wondered when AF was due. I don't want it to consume me, I don't want to stress every month during 2ww etc! And I have a lot of good things going on so it wouldn't be the end of the world if it took a while to conceive, but it's hard when you have that absolutely instinctive drive to have a baby, and everyone around you seems to be pregnant or having a newborn!!

isthatpoisontoo · 11/01/2016 14:28

I'm coping with waiting by organising a wedding, there isn't time for much else! It also helps that DP is away with work at the moment. He asked me this weekend what the plan actually is; when I looked at the dates I realised I'm probably ovulating on my wedding day. On the one hand, that's perfect timing (who wants to be bloated and periody when they're meant to glow and wear white?) but I'd been intending on falling into bed at 3 am and zonking!

During the long wait since we decided in summer, I've lost weight and got fitter, which was definitely good work (am now sat here munching lebkuchen, though). I'm also doing lots of reading about pregnancy. Emily Oster's 'Expecting Better' was brilliant, it made me much more sure of myself going into this.

radders The vast majority of women will have healthy babies without taking supplements for months beforehand or changing their lifestyle. Most of this stuff can only be seen at a population level. Unless your pre-conception stuff is kicking smoking, or getting rid of that pesky alcoholism or heroin habit, you probably can't make much difference. Being fit will probably make pregnancy more pleasant, but like you say, it might take a while to get pregnant at all.

TheresaMarie55 · 11/01/2016 09:22

I didn't take folic acid at all with my two children radders. I will be this time but I had smooth pregnancies and healthy babies x

raddersmrs · 11/01/2016 08:14

That's why I'm debating whether to wait a little longer than February as only just started folic acid and not started exercise yet as still too poorly.

Then I think some people get pregnant unexpectedly and have perfectly healthy babies and pregnancies so maybe we put too much on this pre conception stuff.

I want to start just in case it takes ages to get pregnant, I don't want to wait longer and find we have problems, I would prefer to know sooner rather Than later. But with that, we could also fall pregnant the first cycle so need to make sure I'm prepared and ready for that

stumblymonkey · 11/01/2016 07:18

Welcome mango and guidinglight...

Radders...I'm finding waiting hard as usually once I make my mind up to do something I crack on with it straight away. I know I'm in a much better position for a healthy pregnancy though once I've taken folic acid for a little time before TTC, have come off my psych meds and have lost weight so I keep telling myself this like a little mantra!

I'm keeping myself busy in the meantime by preparing so that I feel like I'm doing something....getting all my check ups (bloods, smear, dentist), choosing a nursery theme/look, reading my pregnancy book, looking into ante-natal courses as I'm going to try hypnobirthing, etc).

Guidinglight - I know how you feel. My DP agreed we should start TTC then he keeps pulling out (sorry, TMI). Then he avoids talking about it. Finally sorted it with him yesterday, think I'm ovulating today and do impatient to start! I hope you manage to sort it. I just kept asking my DP when we were going to talk about it and eventually we did; persistence is key!

Felipa · 10/01/2016 21:34

Ttc-indy?! That was meant to say Ttc-ing!

Felipa · 10/01/2016 21:34

Forgot to say when Ttc-Indy my first child it took 2 months, then a mc, then a further 2 months. My second took 2 months.

Then for this third one we tried for 2 months, another mc, then tried another 2 or 3 months but it didn't work. so we have been on a Ttc break for 6 months now and am really looking forward to getting back to it.

Felipa · 10/01/2016 21:30

raddersmrs I have been waiting approx 6 months now and have gone through a range of emotions from irritation to relief to jealousy to sadness (mostly at Christmas). Now that the end is in sight and I only have two months to wait I am getting excited and motivated to be healthy.
I have mainly coped by planning nice things that i couldn't enjoy so much if pregnant/ heavily pregnant eg cocktails and nights out with friends, aerobics classes, a holiday abroad. Mostly have just enjoyed spending time with my two children and looking forward to when they have a little brother or sister.

It has been a tough wait but am now just feeling very very broody!!

mangocoveredlamb · 10/01/2016 21:27

I'm coping with the waiting by looking at my spreadsheet (I know!) that shows when we can afford it/how much we'll need to save, and it scares me into buying more condoms!!
That and my pregnancy with DD did a bit of a number on my body and I'd like to be in a better position with number 2!

I met a friend's tiny baby today, that really didn't help! I did however resist biscuits!

I got pregnant with DD after 3 months, but I anticipate it taking longer this time!

Nuttypops · 10/01/2016 21:25

Guidinglight it can be tricky when so much influences ttc as you say. Staying relaxed is a really good idea in the process. Do you know why your cycles are irregular?
An aside, but hopefully a hopeful story for you. I had really irregular cycles when ttc our first, ranging from 30-60 days, DH also worked really odd hours and was frequently away. DD was conceived with 5 months of seriously trying though, and I had no problems during pregnancy. Hopefully it won't be too long for you.

So radders, in reply to your question. It took about 5 months for us to conceive our first. I had been off the pill for a year before she was conceived but DH was deployed for 6 months of that. I didn't go back on the pill after our first and we are just seeing how things go with this one as my cycles are still quite irregular after breastfeeding DD.

TheresaMarie55 · 10/01/2016 20:56

I go from one extreme to the other radders. Some days I'm really motivated with my weight loss and am like, yep, no baby being made until April and I'm at goal weight. Then I have days when I think, ah sod it, should I just come off now! I won't come off yet as I promised myself I wouldn't until at a certain weight but it's tempting sometimes.

I have two children and got pregnant with both the first month off the pill. With my second I came off the pill halfway through a pack and dates show I was pregnant around a week or two after . I must say though that me and my husband did dtd pretty much everyday and I lay with my legs up for a while after each time 😳😂 . I am expecting it to take longer this time but also planning around if it does happen quickly again x

raddersmrs · 10/01/2016 20:12

Those who aren't trying yet and have a plan in place of when to try, how are you coping waiting? I feel like I'm doing my own head in waiting and thinking about it. Then because I'm thinking about it I keep thinking oh maybe I should wait another month etc. At the same time being certain this is the right time.

Those who already have children, how long did it take you to conceive the first?

TheresaMarie55 · 10/01/2016 16:22

My diet is still going smoothly, think I'm getting used to it now and confident that once I've lost the weight I'll be able to carry it on as part of a healthy lifestyle. Went for a three hour walk today with the kids and dog, feel great!

Hello and welcome mango 😃 if all goes to plan I'll be stopping the pill either at the end of March or mid April x
