Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

Sarah X

In theory I'd like to put off POAS as long as possible as my mum had a lot of fertility issues and as soon as I get BFP I'll likely just worry anyway! That said I appreciate with these things (as with planning first baby) what you think you'll do and what you actually do when the time comes are two different things!

TheresaMarie55 · 23/01/2016 10:02

I will be waiting until I'm actually late but Will likely test once I'm 1-2 days late. X

snowy1982 · 23/01/2016 09:27

stumbly that approach will take some will power but i agree it's a good one to try. Except for the one month AF was a week late I have had no call for POAS. My approach is to not do it unless AF is actually late (which she never is with the exception of the one time mentioned above) and even then to hold out as long as possible before POAS. The time mentioned above I tested when is was day 3 with no AF, got BFN but by day 6 she still wasn't there so tested again, another BFN, then on day 7 (maybe 8) she arrived. I intend to follow same pattern if AF is ever late again.... although you know what they say about the best laid plans Smile

stumblymonkey · 23/01/2016 08:58

Think this approach is going to take some willpower though!

I went a bit crazy this week and started POAS and squinting at imaginary lines.

Have now promised myself not to test unless AF is actually late as (a) I spent £15 on tests and AF is a free test! and (b) I think I might drive myself nuts POAS all the time.

I also figure that you get BFPs and then 'lose' it in a chemical pregnancy and I'd rather not get my hopes up and then be disappointed and if I just wait until AF I'll never know about the chemical pregnancies.

Thoughts?

Yeah I'll deffo wait with him, it will help him to feel involved. BFP or BFN, get him into the routine every month Grin Hopefully not for too many months though.

TheresaMarie55 · 23/01/2016 07:17

Will have my fingers crossed for you Alice for both bfp and hubbys reaction. Could you maybe poas and then wait and look at the result together so it possibly not as big a surprise? X

AliceScarlett · 23/01/2016 07:06

7 days til POAS day/ or AF whatever comes 1st. It's just a week, its just a week...
Decided to test on Sat as I'll be on 16dpo so test has a good chance of being accurate and I don't want to test 1st thing then have to go to work. If next sat is a BFP (yeah right) I want to be with DH all day. Slightly worried how he could react, he has autism and surprises are not things he enjoys.

TheresaMarie55 · 22/01/2016 20:56

Yeah, with our first we completely weren't fussed, with our second we started trying in January and said if I wasn't pregnant by March we would use protection for a month or two, luckily never came to that. This time January has been a no no as we already have two October children and March is a no no because of the whole Christmas thing. I'm glad to be waiting in a way as I'm confident ill be at my goal weight by mid April but when you're ready to start trying it's so annoying having to wait x

stumblymonkey · 22/01/2016 20:44

I had similar thoughts about whether we should skip TTC for the month that coincided with Christmas but then I've just decided 'what will be will be' and I'll carry on trying.

I can see why those who already have DCs find it a bit more difficult though...

I too am wondering whether to hold off as to not have a Christmas baby but then you do wonder whether you are "wasting" a month. And waiting until April seems like such a long time away!
I don't mind having a baby in December, but I just ideally don't want one right round Christmas. Although this sounds silly in some ways. I'm going to see what my cycles are like when coming off the pill. Only 3 more pills to go! Yay. Getting excited

TheresaMarie55 · 22/01/2016 20:25

Argh! It's so annoying isn't it?! I worked out that I'd conceive around 1st of April giving me a due date of around the 23rd. I was ten days early with my first but five days late with my second so who knows what will happen next time! I'm pretty sure I won't finish my April pack though lol. Think ill take two weeks worth to take me that bit further away from possible Christmas baby then start trying x

mangocoveredlamb · 22/01/2016 20:07

I've worked out that we can't start tryin until MAY!
If we conceived in April I would have a due date of December 31st and as DD was early (2 1/2 weeks) DH doesn't want to risk it. I have quite long cycles so this feels like forever.

I'm trying to look on it as an opportunity to get a bit fitter and sort out my sugar habit. It's hard though!

TheresaMarie55 · 22/01/2016 19:56

Hi everyone, just popping in. I'm gonna keep up with the thread but probably won't post as often as some until I'm actually ttc as I'm trying to put it at the back of my mind a little. Little bit gutted that the dates have worked out that we can't start trying until April. I worked dates out and if I came off the pill after my March pills and got pregnant first cycle I'd be due around December 23rd. Although, I must admit I am now getting thoughts of "does it really matter if we have a Christmas baby". If this was our first I'd not be bothered at all but the thought of there being a chance I'd have a baby on Christmas and miss being with my girls on Christmas day horrifies me. Then I think, but if it takes a while I've 'wasted' a month. Ugh, so hard to decide!!! Wondering whether to just take half of April's pack to take chance of Christmas baby put of the equation and then come off.

Sorry for the ramble x

My OH is a very laid back person & the way our relationship works is I research & plan way more than he does - but he's the more sensible head > heart one. I know when we get a BFP he'll be excited & he will be an incredibly father.. We've talked about it lots whilst we've been on honeymoon and I can wait to get started haha!

snowy1982 · 22/01/2016 13:09

Poison at times i find it hard that he is so laid back about things and i just want to shake him to get a response, but then when i am really freaking out about something and he is able to stay calm and also calm me down i really appreciate it then!

SA is sperm analysis - well in my head it is, dont know if it is official lingo - he has an appointment next week to make the lab arrangements

isthatpoisontoo · 22/01/2016 13:03

My DP was quite engaged from the moment we decided we want kids. We chose names months ago. He did a fair bit of research on his own to prepare to TTC (turns out that wasn't needed!) and he told me yesterday that he's chosen the pram!

DP is very into preparation, I think that's great but he seems to have skipped ahead nine months. I'd find it really hard to be with someone who was laid back about important things, although I can see the advantages in theory.

What's an SA, snowy? I'm obviously not up on the lingo.

DH is outwardly being very calm about, it's his way of trying to keep my crazy in check, but I know him and I know that it is something he is worrying about, we have been TTC for over 12 months and I know it is worrying him. Also his SA is looming so I know, as much as he is trying to hide it, he is freaking about that. Also he just isn't a person who gets very excited about things. I know if we are ever lucky enough to get the BFP he will be delighted, but excitement won't kick in until I'm in labour, that's just the way he is. I on the other hand get excited/worked up/worried so easily, so it's good I have him to reign me in

AliceScarlett · 22/01/2016 09:32

My DH is chilled about it, I'm the one researching like a loon. He just looks forward to me letting him know when the fertile time is upon us Hmm

Avriljen · 22/01/2016 09:19

We do talk about it quite a lot though, tends to be when we're out walking dog so not a sit down discussion, much more casual!

Avriljen · 22/01/2016 09:18

Hi stumbly!
My dh is taking conception vitamins but that's it, although he did let slip that he'd thought of some names he likes! So I think he is secretly thinking about it, I think guys are maybe never outwardly excited.
But I also am not doing too much, I'm on here (I now have a mn addiction!) and I'm tracking on ovia but trying not to get too ahead of myself just in case it doesn't happen. I know I'll be so frustrated if it doesn't happen quickly that it would just be worse if I had picked out nursery ideas and read up all about pregnancy stages. I think I'll just take it as it comes!

stumblymonkey · 22/01/2016 09:08

How are other people's DH/DPs about the whole thing?

The gender(?) or maybe personality divide in our case is huge. DP is super laid back so is just going about his usual life with a vague background thought that at some point we might get lucky.

I, on the other hand, am reading pregnancy books, researching conception, making lists of everything we need for a baby, choosing nursery decor ideas, mumsnetting like a loon, etc, etc
