Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

I'm still waiting for AF here. Should be here by the weekend and once that's over I can start trying. I've had no luck charting my temperature as dd has been waking up lots at night so I have been up and down with her and the results I've managed have been all over the place. Still no idea if I'm actually ovulating!
Part of me can't wait to be pregnant but I think I'm blocking out the horrible anxiety and sickness I had last time. No idea how to cope with sickness with an active and non sleeping toddler but at least I'm not working now. The commute was brutal. I expect I will also need the glucose test as my dd was over 10lbs. Still not sure how that happened!
I hope you get the answers you need Bertie. It's much better to go into these things with as much information as possible.

BertieBotts · 05/04/2016 09:15

It's just my doctor I think. I've had similar issues with her over other things too so I'm looking to change. She likes to go through a very set procedure which seems to take forever over everything and won't discuss options, she just decides what is best and in what order. If I agree with her then fine, but sometimes I haven't which is frustrating as she's not open to discussion.

Thanks :)

TheresaMarie55 · 05/04/2016 08:54

Hope you get the answers to it all soon Bertie, sounds like the doctors are dragging their feet which must be frustrating.

I had a bit of pelvic pain last time to wispa but think the amount of weight I gained didn't help. I gained a pretty average two stone with my first pregnancy but gained a whopping four stone with my second. I weigh a stone less now than I did when I fell pregnant first time so feel I'm starting in a much better place and will be conscious of what I eat this time.

I've been lucky that I've had no problems in my pregnancies but I will likely need the glucose tolerance test. I had to have it with my second as my first baby was above average weight (9lb2oz) . My second baby was 9lb3.5 so I'll have it logged that I have a history of larger babies. X

jennymac31 · 05/04/2016 08:33

I know what you mean wispaxmas! I'm slightly anxious about the next pregnancy. I was extremely impatient the first time round and I don't think it will be any better next time around, especially as i'm a few years older & am heavier. First pregnancy was deemed high risk so no doubt the next one will be.
Should find out in a week's time whether i'm gonna be made redundant so much as I want to start ttc (dd keeps asking for baby sister) will have to hold off until next week hopefully!

BertieBotts · 05/04/2016 07:48

Ah actually having looked I don't think so, as it only tests for three specific trisomies and what happens with a translocation is that two chromosomes get mixed up or attached to each other. If DH can find out which two chromosomes it is, then we can find out what's likely to be the outcome. The most common one is 13/14 apparently. So it might be worth it to test for Trisomy 13 but that doesn't then test for monosomy 13, monosomy 14 or trisomy 14.

But, this is the result of my fervent googling, I'm not a doctor and I don't know that much about genetics.

BertieBotts · 05/04/2016 07:41

I haven't really looked into it but I'm not in the UK - is harmony only a UK thing or is it worldwide? We are in Germany. We get good healthcare here so I'm not too worried about finding a geneticist but I'm a little bit anxious because last time we mentioned it to our GP she insisted on sending me off for loads of tests first and I couldn't communicate to her that it's not "we think we might have a problem", it's that we KNOW DH has a problem but we want to know the extent of it. Then it just became too complicated and we decided to stop TTC but now we are in a position to try again. DH is going to ask his parents if they have any blood test results from when he was a child but it's doubtful.

wispaxmas · 05/04/2016 07:17

Just a thought, bertie, but is it something you could get the harmony test for? I know it tests for trisomies, and might be a bit pricey, but I know some people who got t without any increased familial risk factors.

wispaxmas · 05/04/2016 07:15

Bertie, sounds a bit rubbish that he has been poorly informed throughout his life, but I'm glad he's now willing to do the test to spare more invasive tests for you.

I don't know if I'm looking forward to pregnancy so much, really. I mean, it wasn't bad last time at all, even with pelvic trouble (PGP) towards the end, I was just so anxious the whole time! DD barely kicked at all I ended up in for monitoring a few times. I think DD was just lazy, though or very sleepy, because she continues to love sleep to this day!

BertieBotts · 05/04/2016 06:57

I just have the one but DS has a different father to DH. DH has a translocation which means that a baby might be higher risk for certain trisomies or might be likely to miscarry. We don't know which outcome is possible/likely unless DH has blood tests which he was initially unwilling to do (which I thought was unfair as the alternative is invasive testing for me in pregnancy with tests which can cause miscarriage themselves, and I'm rubbish with needles whereas he doesn't mind) but he's more open to it now. He just didn't want it confirmed if there was something "wrong" with our baby that it was his fault. I guess he knows it's not his fault really, in that he has no control over it but he's always known about this problem basically and been given really rubbish half information from the time he was a teenager and it's always bothered him.

TheresaMarie55 · 04/04/2016 23:34

Sorry if I've missed it already, tests for what? How many children do you have? X

BertieBotts · 04/04/2016 22:51

I'm looking forward to both bits Theresa :) I loved being pregnant. I think I'll have to have more tests this time though :(

TheresaMarie55 · 04/04/2016 22:29

I was chatting to hubby and was saying, obviously I'm looking forward to the actual, having a baby lol but the thing I'm really looking forward to is being pregnant again. Don't get me wrong it has its ups and downs but I loved it so much. Feeling baby inside is the most amazing feeling ever x

wispaxmas · 04/04/2016 21:10

FX high hopes and Theresa!!!

CD4 for me, AF pretty much gone, could be my second last AF for a year or so! Hah, as if it'll happen first cycle trying in May. Still, I'm looking forward to no AF right now more than any baby Grin

TheresaMarie55 · 04/04/2016 20:40

Fx high hopes! I'm now officially in the ttc club 😁 . Stopped taking the pill, a couple of days earlier than we'd said but we're both so ready. The earliest its possible for me to be due (if I fell pregnant at the earliest physically possible time) is January 1st. Hmmm, guess the not being due around Christmas thing went out the window. Very unlikely that will happen though, I've stopped the pill 8 days into a pack so not sure when I'll have my bleed but it's due on the 18th. Will just have to see. If I haven't come on by 1st of May that's when I'll test x

HighHopes16 · 04/04/2016 09:36

Morning all! My ovia app says 5 days till pregnancy test so think I'm going to POAS Friday morning eeek FX! x

Sienna9522 · 03/04/2016 23:35

Thanks Wispa, I used the normal digital ones (which have caused me enough stress) I felt the ones with the flashing smileys would cause me too much confusion, I'm easily confused Grin and I agree, POS has driven me insane!

wispaxmas · 03/04/2016 19:36

FX Sienna! I think you're definitely in with a good chance this month.

Does anyone use the clear blue digital OPKs? The ones with the flashing smiley for high fertility and then static for peak? I've only ever used cheap OPKs and never got a positive, but I went and bought a back of the CBD ones on a whim. Now wondering whether I shouldn't have bothered. Pissing on sticks drove me mental last time around and I want to stay relaxed!

Sienna9522 · 03/04/2016 15:16

I got a positive OPK this afternoon on CD15, the last test I did was on CD12 which was negative, i didn't test on CD 13 or 14 so unsure where I'm at with the LH surge or when I'll ovulate. We BD'd last night but didn't for the 2 days prior to this. We plan to BD today, tomorrow and the next day. Hope that's enough to hit the window.

wispaxmas · 03/04/2016 07:29

pointless, the problem with soft cheese would be the listeria risk, which is minuscule anyways and you could just as easily get it from unwashed veg as mould ripened cheese - but you would already know if you had gotten listeriosis from it, so even if you WERE pregnant you wouldn't have done any harm. Nor would the beer have caused any harm, either Wink

FX for this cycle!

TheresaMarie55 · 02/04/2016 19:01

Welcome, not we come 😂

Pointlessfan · 02/04/2016 19:00

Just got back from holidays, looks like I have some catching up to do!
Period just started this afternoon, I'm disappointed even though I wasn't really expecting to be pregnant this month. It's probably a good thing though, I've had a lot of beer and blue/soft cheeses this week!

TheresaMarie55 · 02/04/2016 19:00

We come newbies 😊 and hope the 2ww goes fast for those in it. 6 more pills and then I'm officially coming off the pill! Got my folic acid tablets now so Will be taking them from tomorrow x

BertieBotts · 02/04/2016 16:03

But I think I know what you mean - my best friend just had her first and is posting loads of pictures and I'm finding them really hard to look at :( I thought it was because I can't go and see her in person (distance) but I don't know what it is now.

BertieBotts · 02/04/2016 16:02

Ah but it's nice if people around you have babies. I was the first by a long way in my social circle to have DS and it was a bit lonely not having anyone to talk to about it. I am more "normal age" now and I think it will be nice this time, as likely I'll know people with DC of similar age which will be lovely :) And nice to have people who've done it just before you as they can warn you of what's coming up and you get nice hand me downs Grin

Starmist · 02/04/2016 15:10

Thanks Bertie that makes me feel better, it always helps when you know others are feeling the same. I'd like 2 DC ideally. I know when I think logically that at 32 it's fine, I've got lots of time but it's like suddenly everyone around me is having babies!

Wispa exactly, ppl have no idea what's going on when they ask that question. It's like they think they have some right to know but it's such a private thing.

FX those waiting on tests get some answers soon.
