Join us. It's a boat. Full of okp's and symptom spotting and insanity! But also much love and support! We were supposed to start next month, we already have a few bfp's! Our dps don't know what's hit them!

Aww thanks Stark you're a Star and that's awesome!

I shall put that in my recipe book later today when I'm awake! Grin

StarkyTheDirewolf · 19/12/2015 23:45

There you go runner I never put alcohol in cakes so I've always left the brandy out and added a little splash of extra milk instead! Its so easy to do! Honestly, if I can do it, anyone can! Cake

Mince pie cake.
Can be done as muffins, or split the batter in two and use a 9 inch spring form tin.

115 g unsalted butter, at room temperature
225 g light brown sugar
3 eggs
375 g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
100 ml milk
120 ml vegetable oil
1-2 tbsp brandy, optional
1 tsp vanilla extract
200 g mincemeat

For brandy butter icing :
250 g unsalted butter, at room temperature
500 g icing sugar
2 tbsp brandy

Alternative cinnamon vanilla icing:
85g butter, softened
40ml milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
375g icing sugar

METHOD
1.For the cupcakes: Preheat the oven to 180C/160 fan/gas 5 and line a twelve-hole muffin tin with paper cases.
2.Whisk the butter and sugar together in a mixer, or using an electric whisk, until pale and fluffy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, and mix well.
3.In a separate bowl, sieve the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and ½ teaspoon of salt together and set to one side. Separately, mix together the milk, oil and brandy and also set to one side.
4.Add one third of the flour mixture into the batter and mix well, followed by one third of the milk/oil mixture. Repeat until all the flour mixture and milk/oil mixture has been incorporated. Stir in the mincemeat.
5.Using an ice-cream scoop, fill the paper cases until they are two-thirds full with cake batter. Or split between two 9 inch cake tins. Bake for 18-20 minutes (cupcakes) or 35-40 minutes(cake) or until a cocktail stick comes out clean. Take out and leave to cool on a wire rack.

6.For the brandy butter icing: In a clean bowl, whisk the butter until it is pale and creamy and then slowly add in the icing sugar until it is all incorporated and the mixture is smooth and fluffy. Add the brandy and mix in well.
7.Top each cupcake with a generous amount of brandy buttercream/cinnamon icing and decorate with Christmas figures or sprinkles. Once cakes have cooled, split icing, putting half in the middle and half on the top.

I've put both toppings in the recipe, but I use the cinnamon icing, ooooh it's so good! Will pop a pic up when mine is put together shortly.

Stark where can we get the recipe... I love to murder a good cake recipe Hmm

Also excited for all the upcoming tests. We still have time for a few more 2015 BFPs!!! Grin

StarkyTheDirewolf · 19/12/2015 23:07

Just got another fairly dark okp. Took a picture but the lighting isn't the best. It's not positive yet but I'm feeling slightly less despondent about ovia twisting my melon man! It would be super if I could ovulate tomorrow!

Wish I could share it with you guys! It's quite good cake! Gluten free too! The icing is amazing! And properly easy to make! I would heartily recommend it as a Christmas crowd pleaser!

I'm excited for all these prego tests in the next week, you guys!

Towards the end of next week Runner. Fertility friend says to test on Christmas Day, Ovia says to test on 29th, so if I need to test I will do it somewhere between the two dates I think. Trying to be all calm and zen like about it but in rl I am a bit of a mess!

Runner05 · 19/12/2015 22:12

Hi Cant welcome :-)

Sometimes opk's start showing a second line before preggo tests. No idea why. I'd keep testing though. Sometimes you don't get BFP until 13 or 14 dpo Grin

I ping ponged between definitely upduffed and no chance this month. Was certain I wasn't when I got BFP but at the same time wasn't surprised... Not sure there was any point to that ramble.

How confusing Snow just wait and see what happens next I suppose.

Ooo Pink when you testing???

Stark that cake looks AMAZING!!!!

Drink there really is no way for you to know before that line shows up. Just keep testing and keep fingers and toes but not legs crossed Smile

drinkyourmilk · 19/12/2015 21:58

Cake looks delicious starky

drinkyourmilk · 19/12/2015 21:57

Welcome canters , I'm due Wednesday too.

It's my day to have a teary wobble. I don't feel pregnant. I feel like I'm getting myself excited for no reason. Sad

Pinklily1 · 19/12/2015 21:56

Looks fab Starky!

I've been like a zombie all week so early night for me after Strictly finishes.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 19/12/2015 21:54

Mince pie cake! Yummmm! canters you just reminded me to do an okp! Ttc is sooo complicated! I never realised how potentially stressful it could be! Time for a brew and some cake me thinks! And then some crochet!

Ps Starky, I think you should use the leek farts and goatee chat to entice OH into bed!!

Pinklily1 · 19/12/2015 21:51

Hi Shelb! Has being pg sunk in yet?! How are you feeling?

Just biding my time to test now Grin I'm definitely adopting the "you're not out till AF arrives" mantra!

Snowdog37 · 19/12/2015 21:51

I just had a very small amount of bright red blood when I wiped? It's way way too early for af (my cycles are around 25 days, today is day 16) and with my huge temp dip I don't know what to think? Xmas Confused it can't possibly be implantation at 4/5dpo?!? I think my body has decided it's had enough. Ugh.

Canters15 · 19/12/2015 21:48

Thanks guys. This ttc business is so much more complicated then I thought it would be!

AF due weds so a few days to go yet. Might pee on another opk for fun tomorrow and look at getting a frer on mon- I am a bit suspicious of the ic tests!

Preggers people, did you have any inclination this was going to be your month before you tested? Am curious.....

StarkyTheDirewolf · 19/12/2015 21:37

Welcome canters Xmas Grin you're not broken, it can take a few days (sometimes weeks) to see a positive on a test because everybody's hormones develop at a different rate! Our mantra as you might now by now is "you're not out till you're out!" So unless you're on af, you're still in! Xmas Smile

shelb that's lovely to see!
blue have you come down from cloud 9 yet? Are you still up there?

runner take it easy and be waited in hand and foot! You are all carrying precious cargo!

I have wind, but it's because I put leeks in the soup, not for any exciting reason! I'm watching home alone and thinking about plucking my goatee I'm not kidding 🐐

OP posts:
shelbTa · 19/12/2015 21:35

Welcome canters!

I don't understand it either, but apparently it's indicative that if your opk starts getting darker when it shouldn't (ie way after ovulation) then it could lead to BFP. Don't ask me why or how! Happened to me though, and runner - could be a good sign canters!

Hi pink!

X

Pinklily1 · 19/12/2015 21:30

Welcome. Canters! Tbh I am equally as bamboozled by the positive OPK as a sign of pg thing, but biology isn't my strong point!

Canters15 · 19/12/2015 21:24

Can I dip my toe in here too? I'm on the js'ing thread but have been stalking on here too and getting excited over all the bfps. Congrats to all! We were also supposed to be waiting to Jan, but, ummmmmm, didn't.

Anyhow I'm on cycle 1, about 10-11dpo. Getting a bit confused by all this opk as preg test chat...I got some in the post yesterday and did one then and one today. Both have a second line though it's fairly pale. Today's was slightly darker then yesterday. I did an ic test too which was bfn. Can anyone explain how an opk could detect pregnancy before a hpt? Surely that should be positive by now if it was doing to be? Am I broken? Help calm a crazy TTC lady, please!

Runner05 · 19/12/2015 20:48

Yep, in my case the opk knew I was pregnant before the pregnancy test.

Opk went blank after ovulation and started getting darker again after implantation.

shelbTa · 19/12/2015 20:32

Oh and in case anyone was wondering if opks getting darker after ovulation was a sign of being upduffed - id say it is...opk green, hcg blue, control end near colour.

Runner05 · 19/12/2015 20:13

Blue yep, totally normal. But after a couple of days you'll get used to being perpetually uncomfortable and a hey and you'll start to worry during those rare moments when you aren't Hmm

shelbTa · 19/12/2015 18:37

Yeah I'm the same blue. Every time I bend over my tummy hurts, hoping its wind and nothing else, it's still so so early.

BlueGirl1982 · 19/12/2015 18:23

Yay Shelb! It's so weird seeing those words isn't it!!

I don't really understand the whole 1-2 thing but hey ho.

Dub, if ovia says test then test, that's what I held out for.

I'm starting to worry about every little twinge, and every time I do something or put something in my mouth I'm questioning whether I should Confused Is this normal??

shelbTa · 19/12/2015 18:11

Still can't believe! Eeeppp!

May have to venture out and buy some mince pies now stark!

Good luck dub!
