Just popped in to wish you luck with your day 3 results Lucie and you've already got them, so pleased for you!

lucieloos · 22/01/2016 08:22

Thanks Banana feeling chuffed just hoping they make it to Sunday. God it's so nerve wracking!!

Woop!! This is the best news lucie - apparently you very much do still have incredible egg quality. Go go go little embryos!! Grin

lucieloos · 22/01/2016 08:14

Eeekkk I've had my day 3 result already!! We have 1x7 cell and 1x8 cell embryos so pretty much exactly where they need to be today! I'm still not getting my hopes up though as I hate how this thing leads you into a false sense of security but I am pleased for today!! Just praying they keep growing and dividing until Sunday now.

Thanks Sammy, I spent so long faffing about with my last post it crossed with yours.

Trixietwenty16 · 21/01/2016 18:12

Thanks Boris and Banana, it's so weird seeing DH so poorly, we've been together for over 6 years and he's not had a day off sick in that whole time.
I did think about going along myself Boris but I'm sure when I initially booked the appointment the receptionist said we both had to attend. If we had a long wait for a new appointment then I would have seen if I could go along myself but we are lucky we don't have to wait long.
To be honest, having the knowledge from Star that the waiting list here is only a month (hopefully it doesn't change!) takes the pressure off, just keen to see what they say and get booked in.

Great news about your embryos Banana, I've read about frozen embryos being better because they have to survive the freezing/thawing process.
Transferring 1 at a time definitely sounds like the best decision for you. We transferred 1 at a time for our fresh and FET cycles last year and had said that we would do 2 next to increase our chances. I can't remember now what odds our clinic gave us about increasing overall success/chance of twins. I'm not sure whether the NHS would allow us to go for 2 though. Very sad to hear about the couples you know with twins, very sobering. Since our last transfer we've learnt that my NK cell levels are high so we will be having immune treatment next time, we've not had the conversation since re how many to transfer but given that we should have a better chance of success with immune treatment I guess we would stick with 1 at a time. I'm sure I've read that with IVF there is a higher chance of an embryo splitting and the thought of triplets (or quads!) is very scary.

Good luck for your scan tomorrow Banana.

loopylou1984 · 21/01/2016 17:51

Phew Trixie, glad you don't have to wait long, and very glad your DH is ok too. Get well soon Mr Trixie!

Banana!!! Wow! That's an amazing result, you must be so pleased. Fx for your lining, will be looking out for updates.

Interesting about the transferring 1/2 talk. I have only been offered one due to my age, but always thought that given the chance I'd do two. Now I'm not so sure. Think I'll have to do a bit of research if we get to that point.

I wish I had an update, but just plodding along. Xx

lucieloos · 21/01/2016 15:52

I am leaning more towards transferring one at a time as well although we may be tempted by 2 on the NHS just because everything is a bit of a faff with them. If we manage to get 2 that is. My friend had twins via IVF and they have some medical issues now and it sounds immensely difficult even doing simple things with them. I was told that transferring 2 increases success rates by 10-15% but I think overall the success rates are higher for one at a time. I found this interesting article with cumulative success rates. Obviously it won't be the same for everyone but thought it was an interesting guide.

lucie glad you’re home, and hoping those little embies of yours are fighters

star if they’ve recommended ICSI, do ICSI. It overcomes any male factor issues (which will be why they’ve recommended it) to bring the fertilisation rates in line with IVF. As lucie says, it will all depend on the sample on the day. They can vary so much, so it just depends what, er, comes out on the day. We just did what the embryologists recommended

sammy hurrah for temp rise!

trixie so sorry to hear about your DH, hope he’s on the mend soon! And glad you don’t have to wait too long for the next available appt.

AFM, we’re going to blast! Day 3 update: we have 11 good quality embryos, 2 OK ones, and 3 laggards that I imagine will conk out fairly soon. But 11+2 is beyond even my wildest dreams - I didn’t think I’d even get more than a couple of eggs with my AMH

I felt absolutely fine after EC - ovaries felt a bit battered and bruised for the rest of the day, but the following day I felt right as rain. My incredible enormo-bloat had actually disappeared overnight- 24h after EC I had abs again. Bodies are weird

Interestingly, the embryos from the frozen eggs are kicking the arse of the embryos from the fresh eggs. The 3 good go-ers from the frosties are 9-cell, where the 8 good go-ers from the fresh lot are 6-8 cell. Maybe it’s like veggies, when you freeze em you lock in the goodness?!!!

We decided not to have the PGS testing this time - my consultant said he didn’t generally recommend it for a first cycle in someone under 35, and in his experience when he has done CGH, the chromosomally normal ones have turned out to be the morphologically good quality ones. That’s not always the case of course, but we felt at £2800 a pop for testing, and if the consultant and the lab all recommended against it, we’d not pursue it this time.

Trixie we would definitely only transfer one blast (whenever we may actually get to ET!!). The likelihood of pregnancy (counterintuitively) only goes up by 1-2% when you transfer two blasts, but the risk of twins goes to 1 in 2. Given the enormous morbidities associated with multiples, as much as part of me would love a two for one special, in reality, we’re doing this because we want to have a health baby. I know two couples who very sadly were pregnant with twins, but left the hospital with only one baby Sad And of the many others (only a few of whom were IVF, I think) I know with twins, almost all had to spend several weeks in the NICU. Plus my consultant is adamant that with my own medical conditions (spinal injury, epilepsy, hyperbole joints - meaning my pelvis could essentially fall apart even in a singleton pregnancy) we need to avoid multiples at all costs. All that said, we did agree that whilst we’d ideally transfer a single blast, as we didn’t expect to get to blast, that we’d transfer 2 x day 3 embryos, as the risk of twins was so much smaller

Big big question mark is whether we’ll get a fresh transfer or not

Lining scan tomorrow - desperately hoping the progynova and progesterone will have worked their magic, and I’ll be on for ET Sat morning

If we don’t get the green light, then anything that makes it to blast will go straight into the freezer, and we’ll start work on building my lining up for a FET as soon as I get my period in 2 weeks time

Thinking thick!!!!!!

BorisIsBack · 21/01/2016 12:26

trixie I went to our nhs consultation without DH and It was fine... But it doesn't sound like too long a wait. Hope your DH feels better soon. Proper flu is aweful.

Trixietwenty16 · 21/01/2016 12:23

Thanks ladies, he is ok. Really scared me this morning though. I'm off too with a nasty cough so at least I can look after him. Sammy, it's our NHS consultation. Just heard back from the hospital. They offered us 3rd Feb but DH can't take that morning off work so will be 10th Feb. Not too long to wait Smile

loopylou1984 · 21/01/2016 12:06

Trixie forgive me, what is tomorrow's appointment?
Does DH need to be there?
Hope he's better soon, Xx

lucieloos · 21/01/2016 11:12

Oh no so sorry to hear that trixie. Hope dh is ok. What a bummer though there's always something isn't there. Hopefully they will be able to sort you out with another appt in a couple of weeks though.

OP posts:
Trixietwenty16 · 21/01/2016 11:01

Massive giant spanner in the works here. DH is sick, flu and not just man flu. He was burning up this morning so took his temp (my bb thermometer came in handy) and it was over 39 (thermometer made a really funny beeping noise) took him to the GP and they said there is no way he'll be well enough tomorrow Sad have left a vm for the hospital and just crossing everything that we don't have to wait too long for a new appointment.

lucieloos · 20/01/2016 20:42

Boris, in Czech they use icsi for everyone regardless of sperm quality so your dhs sample is not really that relevant. They will ask you for previous results though and when your dh does his sample out there they will give you a report with all the usual stats.

Hi Pikz, hope you are well!

Pikz · 20/01/2016 20:38

Lucie and banana good to hear the news on eggs/blasts

Hope trixie, Sammy and star and anyone I've missed are doing ok

Keep the 2016 faith

loopylou1984 · 20/01/2016 16:11

Hi Boris, I can't speak for the Czech clinics but certainly in the UK they check the sample provided on the day. You'll plan based on the last SA so if that was good then standard IVF would be planned, but then if sample was bad on the day they would call you to check ok to do icsi then charge the extra cost. Xx

BorisIsBack · 20/01/2016 14:32

lucie that's brilliant. Your freezer is getting full....
Do they test your DHs sperm as you go over for ivf or do they take your SA results from testing before? My DHs SA results have been so variable I don't know what quality he's shooting out...

loopylou1984 · 20/01/2016 14:30

Yeah I know Trixie, but given that I haven't fallen pregnant in all the months where we've dtd several times on and around ovulation I'm not holding my breath! Lol.

Is there a downside to the genetic testing? Other than the cost obviously! X

Trixietwenty16 · 20/01/2016 14:14

Sperm can live up to 6/7 days Sammy so you never know....

Fab news Lucie Smile FX you get the 2 blasts to add to your collection.

Banana, are you going to have one or two put back? Great that you are feeling so well. I had 16 collected and really suffered with pain and bloating afterwards.

Interesting re the ICSI talk. DH and I were told that our fertilisation rate was lower than our clinic like to see (53% where they like to see 70-75%) and that we may want to consider ICSI in another fresh cycle. DHs SA was fine though so not sure what the NHS will say. We're also interested in the acgh testing.

loopylou1984 · 20/01/2016 13:03

Banana - glad you're feeling ok :)

Yes I did get a temp rise in the end. Sadly we hadn't dtd for about 4 days before hand! Lol. I'm about 6dpo now, although no symptoms that I normally have, so not sure what that means. Xx

lucieloos · 20/01/2016 12:14

Thanks Star and Sammy! Still a long way to go yet but at least we have something.

Star, we used icsi. It all depends what your dhs sperm sample is like. If there are any problems with the sample and lower count, motility etc then they will recommend icsi as the chances of fertilisation are much greater than if they left the sperm to do their own thing. If they have recommended icsi I would go with that.

The acgh testing is where they take a small amount of cells from a blastocyst and test them to check they have the correct number of chromosomes and no abnormalities. A high proportion of embryos which are transferred and do not work are because they are aneuploid and do not have the correct number of chromosomes. Therefore if you do the testing beforehand you theoretically can transfer only the good ones and increase success rates a bit.

Oh Lucie, great news!!! I'm so pleased. Fingers tightly crossed that they both make it. Crikey, the wait must be agonising - great that you have today off to (try and) relax. Do you use ICSI or just standard IVF? They have recommended ICSI for us, but I prefer the randomness of IVF - do you think I might be able to opt for that? I guess not with nhs resources.

Banana/Lucie, may I ask what ACSG testing is?

loopylou1984 · 20/01/2016 11:51

Amazing news Lucie!! Congratulations SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

lucieloos · 20/01/2016 10:33

Aww thanks Banana. I heard back from the doctor and he said at EC I had 7 large follicles between 18-22mm and they all should have had eggs. He doesn't understand it either so I don't know where I go from here. Maybe there is something else wrong with me?! Just got to pray for these 2 little ones now. Next update on Friday.
