TTC #1 coming off the pill in December - anyone else in the same boat?!

Hi,

I am going to be coming off the pill after ten years plus on it after my pack finishes in December. Excited but also terrified about what my body is going to do once I'm without all the hormones!

Anyone else doing the same roughly the same time?

Shelb x

(Hope this goes through struggling to post)

I came off the pill in April, due to a change of pill not agreeing with me. We're due to start TTC after Christmas "if money is okay" pfft! My cycles still haven't settled down, so far I've had 29, 16, 14 and 35 days. You're all right about the temptation though. We had a blip and instead of using a condom just went "why wait" last month. When AF took 35 days to arrive I got a wee bit excited, boo to her arrival 3 days ago!
DH is firmly back to waiting for money to be sorted out first. I'm self employed and a consultant so apparently I need a couple more jobs under my belt first.
Fingers crossed coming off the pill for you guys go smoothly. I had hideous breakouts on back chest and face. Now I only get small breakouts when AF is due. Fun times!
The wait is killing me though. I swear I've planned my entire pregnancy, and Childs first year before we're even TTC!!

I have given it lots of thought I know that I will go back part time as I want the chance to do mummy/ child things plus child care costs are so high. I work in the public sector and it's so hard to switch off. I will have to learn to be strict with myself and time at work. Easier said than done.

Lolly90 · 05/10/2015 13:37

So has some blood tests done (a lot
Of them) just got to wait a few days and then speak to the doctor again.

I think stressful jobs are in the air at the moment :(

Hi purple,

That is so exciting!! I'm jealous - I've got about 70+ days.

Your OH sounds really supportive.

I hear you on the work front - I'm really stressed too. Even though it is such a long way off - do you worry about doing your job post baby? I do...

Good Luck Lolly x

Well I am only three days from stopping my pill now its weird seeing the packet emptying and thinking no more for a while. I am having a hard time work wise at the minute my job is stressful so I am doing my best to keep a positive home work life balance. My OH is so thoughtful, sent me a massive bunch of flowers this morning and now I have a huge smile on my face.

shelbTa · 05/10/2015 08:43

Good luck Lolly! Let us know how it goes X

So after having nightmares alllll night!! I have doctors today. Fingers crossed :)

Morwenna1 · 02/10/2015 16:44

Not majorly Shelb - had sore boobs and bloating, but that was about it!

shelbTa · 02/10/2015 15:41

Hi morwenna - that's good that it has returned so quickly. Did you get many side effects coming off it?

OP posts:
purplesmiler · 02/10/2015 13:54

Shelb good luck with your OH at least you can both have some fun on the way to hopefully getting pregnant, thats how I feel about it hehe

Hi Morwenna, I am so pleased to hear your expierience coming off the mini pill. I was tempted to stop taking mine however having looked online the advice is its better to finish the packet otherwise my cycles may become more unsettled. Its only a few days I guess. Good Luck with your TTC journey.

Morwenna1 · 01/10/2015 20:44

Hi all, just jumping on the bandwagon here as I came off Cerazette/Cerelle in June. Been seriously TTC since September though (for various reasons).Think I've been lucky as I came on after 3 weeks of stopping pill - keep the faith Lolly as I'm sure something will happen at some point! My doc seemed surprised that things had resumed normality so quickly. Being a mini pill, logically it shouldn't take as long to work it's way out of your system.

Started trying to map things - I've started using the Clue app on my phone, it's quite useful - would recommend!

Seeing lots of pregnant women and cute babies everywhere... And my work colleagues won't shut up about various pregnant women they know or are related to either!! (Not that I've told them to shut up of course...)

shelbTa · 01/10/2015 15:57

Hi purple,

Aw that's nice that's he's so behind you (so to speak!) with it all.

Speaking of that department I think I'm going to have to ramp up bedroom activities or DH is going to get a shock when I come off the pill and am all over him! Grin

shelb- I may only last that way for the first few months lol. I am taking the seven seas trying for a baby vitamins and have been for a week now. Anything that might help right? I was feeling sick earlier in the week and my OH mentioned the pregnancy word anyway it became obvious it wasnt that and I could see the slight disappointment in his face thats even before I have stopped the pill bless him. I just said lets keep practising lol.

shelbTa · 30/09/2015 18:36

Hi,

Thepartyartist - yeah I'm anticipating some kind of acne as I was put on a special pill to combat that.

Purple - that's the way to approach it deffo, relaxed. I'm guna try and be like that but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to reign it in - I bought some vitamins specially for when you are 'trying' today! I need a slap! Grin

We are just going to see what happens initially, literally the only difference will be I am not taking the pill. I dont want any pressure on either of us, we have an enjoyable time in the bedroom so if I was to get pregnant quickly it would be an added bonus.

ThePartyArtist · 29/09/2015 22:08

I came off the pill, having been on it for 10 years, a few months ago. It can take a while for the cycle to settle down so I wanted a head start before we start trying. You could always come off it and use condoms for now. I have to say it depends on your self control though; because we are thinking of TTC in the coming months I sometimes feel like giving it a go now in the heat of the moment, but we have managed to keep being sensible.

Be prepared for a few side effects when you come off it. I got really sore boobs, put on weight, got acne on my back. My periods are fairly regular but feel irregular compared to when i was on the pill.

isthatpoisontoo · 29/09/2015 20:24

Thanks, purple, I hope I have!

shelb - I had a truly awful headache for a week soon after I stopped the pill, but I don't know if that was coincidental. I've been a bit emotional, maybe (getting teary at random stuff). No sign of any kind of cycle, but I'm very decidedly not worrying about that yet.

I keep dreaming my best friend has left her baby on the bus/ by a cliff edge. Maybe my mind is warning me off a life of looking out for children!

shelbTa · 29/09/2015 19:47

Hi,

isthatpoisontoo - how have you found it coming off the pill?

I've had really vivid baby dreams too! I need to chill out about it all or the next few months are going to drag and I'm going become obsessed - which I'm trying hard not to do!

isthatpoisontoo I think you will have given your body a good amount of time to get settled. As I am on a mini pill, I understand that it doesnt take as long as the combined pill to fully work its way out of our bodies but who knows all we can do is try.

Starky I can fully understand re baby dreams- last night all I could think about was babies! I just feel that it needs to be about what me and my OH want I have been worrying too much about the other things going on around us.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 29/09/2015 12:13

Ooh purple that's so exciting! And shelb we're not far off December! We were talking about it last night again haha and DH doesn't know whether he wants a poo or a haircut! In the space of one conversation we weren't from starting TTC in January, then to march then to immediately, then back to new year! I keep having baby dreams! It's so annoying!

isthatpoisontoo · 29/09/2015 12:12

Hello everyone,

I was really shocked, when we first started talking about ttc, to find out how long it takes for the pill to get out of your system. Most people take 3-6 months, but 9 is medically 'normal'. We're going to start ttc in Feb, I stopped taking the pill in August, and I'm actually worried I haven't left enough time! I guess I see coming off the pill (and using other contraception) as part of the getting everything in order.

shelbTa · 29/09/2015 11:27

Hi,

Yes you're right (lolly purple) the next few months should fly by.

Purple - that's well exciting, you could be coming off it in a week!! Keep us updated on what it's like so can be half prepared when it's our turn! Shock

Shelb, it will soon be December :-)

We have recently moved, I have a longer commute to work which is worth it as we are very close to family but its getting used to the change. I had a good chat with my OH and he said it is totally up to me as he is ready. I am going to finish my current pill packet (got a week left) and may well just see what happens from there no pressure.

Lolly90 · 29/09/2015 06:59

Hi shelb

Oh dear sorry, but when you think about it's not that long till the end of the year anyway :) x

shelbTa · 28/09/2015 19:54

Hi,

I mentioned coming off the pill now as I'd run out to DH in the car home tonight - it was a firm no!! Grin we said end of the year and I'm just going to have to sit tight!

Purple - what do you need to get settled?
