TTC #1 coming off the pill in December - anyone else in the same boat?!

Hi,

I am going to be coming off the pill after ten years plus on it after my pack finishes in December. Excited but also terrified about what my body is going to do once I'm without all the hormones!

Anyone else doing the same roughly the same time?

Shelb x

(Hope this goes through struggling to post)

I'm not sure to be honest because I wouldn't want to change my name if I got married. Don't get me wrong most of my friends have done, but it's just not for me. I'm Irish so losing my surname would feel a bit like losing my identity, my culture! But both of us keeping our surnames is fine for us...it just gets complicated when it comes to kids surnames! I don't really like double barrels (and he hates them!) but I'd hate to think of giving birth and then my baby not having my surname, or at least part my surname! OH is a bit more traditional...I think it just never occurred to him that a wife/mother of his kids wouldn't take his surname! We've kind of failed to come to a conclusion on that one so have parked that conversation for a while!! Confused

Pinklily1 · 23/10/2015 22:57

For us it was a toss up between getting engaged or being able to save enough to buy our house when we wanted to, we went practical and bought the house. Hopefully we'll get married in the not too distant future, but my biological clock is definitely ticking louder than a desire to get married!

Our baby will have his surname, I think it's practical when we will eventually get married anyway. I'm personally not a massive fan of his name-her name double barrelled surnames but I think a lot of people do that now.

Runner05 · 23/10/2015 22:35

We're in a similar boat. We did plan on getting married before babies but unfortunately we've had to delay getting engaged because of ex-wife/divorce issues and since the biological clock was ticking we decided to have a baby and sort out the house then get married. It's more important to me really but OH and I have always been open with what we want and willing to accommodate each other's dreams... Or at least he's willing to accommodate mine hence why we're having a baby, buying a house and eventually getting married Wink

As for baby names. I'm pretty sure we'll go with his name but I have to admit to being a little upset at the thought of my baby having a different last name (at least for a while) seems silly to do anything else though as we would need to change the baby's name when we got married.

What are you planning to go with Ni or are you undecided?

Ni4444 · 23/10/2015 22:21

Pinklilly I'm the same...really thought it was important to be married before kids, even just for practical and legal reasons...but he has his own issues about weddings so I finally figured getting married can come at any time, but the biological clock won't be stopped! We're in the process of buying a place together so between that and ttc I think we have enough moving us forward for now! Smile

Here's a question for you all...what surname will the future babies have? Baby Hisname, Baby Yourname, Baby Hisnameyourname, Baby Yourname hypen Hisname

leoniethelioness · 23/10/2015 22:14

I finished the pill at the end of the pack, had the usual bleed I'd have in between packs (except I didn't start a new pack), and then had a period about a month later so assumed I was back to normal... Maybe not! I think this will be my second proper period? I'm not sure which ones count, haha!

I'm married. We bought our house and then got married 9 months later. Financially, it was a very lean year! We're not particularly traditional but it was important to us. Our parents have both been married for 30something years and it was a foundation that we wanted for our own family. To be honest, it's no different than living together but with added legal protection etc.! I'm glad we've done it as he's the one for me but the marriage was always more important to me than the wedding! We had a lovely wedding but it was a headache to organise at times and we had to cut back on a lot of things for 18 months when we were planning.

Pinklily1 · 23/10/2015 21:57

Leonie - was last months a withdrawal bleed or 'proper' period? When it comes this will be my first one after stopping the pill.

Out of interest how many of us are married or engaged? We have a house together but not married. I always thought I'd like marriage first then babies but I'm not remotely religious or particularly traditional, so don't know why I had that idea. Rings and weddings seem so blooming expensive that we've opted for baby first!

leoniethelioness · 23/10/2015 21:39

Pinklily1 CD36 for me and nothing... I thought I'd be really regular after my first period last month but still waiting for my second post-pill period. Driving me up the wall!

Pinklily1 · 23/10/2015 20:00

Oooh, Purple - the last pill, so exciting!

I feel a bit in limbo having come off the pill but not TTC until January. Still no AF, I'm now on CD 31 I think, so not too long. We've been using condoms but my mind still starts to dream about possibly being pregnant, when I know its just my body settling down post pill. Hopefully AF will come soon and cycle will be regular from now on.

Any exciting plans for the weekend?

shelbTa · 23/10/2015 15:00

Hi purple - such as exciting time hey!

Morning all!

Caring for a baby? Plenty forums for that Runner! Wink

Purple I'm the same. My body definitely feels different...but must put it down to coming off the pill!!

Runner05 · 23/10/2015 09:08

Aww Purple I really hope everything goes to plan and you get to hit them with both lots of good news in quick succession.

I'm having to be really careful as I'm so excited I just want to tell everyone I meet that we're ttc (I'm not as that would be mental) but like you say, it's all a bit real now and I was up half the night thinking about the fact that I have no idea how to care for a baby Confused

purplesmiler · 23/10/2015 08:51

Good Morning all Happy Friday!

badger thats great to hear such a positive and quick expierience TTC after the pill. Im over two weeks in now, my body is changing I can feel that but I am putting this down to coming off the pill. I have to say it would be a happy suprise if I was to get pregnant so soon.

Runner wohoo it becomes very real when you stop taking the pill.

Me and my OH were chatting last night, as we had been to see the mortgage advisor and were saying how exciting things are really coming together. We were saying how suprised our families will be once we tell them about the house (as we had just started to look so they wont be expecting we are in the process of buying one already lol) but then hopefully not too long after a pregnancy announcement. We can hope/dream.

shelbTa · 23/10/2015 08:24

Morning ladies, how are you all today?

I just took my last ever pill Halloween Grin now worrying that I'll accidentally get pregnant this month because that's Sod's law Hmm

Ni4444 · 22/10/2015 22:00

Pinklilly I'm the same planning the next year! "ooh if I get pregnant now, then I can announce it at Christmas", etc etc!

Thanks for the encouragement ifiwasabadger!

Runner05 · 22/10/2015 21:42

Thanks Badger and Pink for sharing your experiences Halloween Smile hope you get your period as planned Pink Star

Pinklily1 · 22/10/2015 21:24

That's encouraging, thanks badger!

Ifiwasabadger · 22/10/2015 20:02

Can I give some positive emcouragement as this was me...a few years ago.

Stopped in the December, was pregnant two weeks later! Oh, and I was 36 :)

It's not all doom and gloom....good luck!

Pinklily1 · 22/10/2015 19:54

PS Shelb - that's encouraging from the nurse :-) It's nice to hear a doctor/ nurse who isn't doom and gloom about fertility for us 30 plusers!

Pinklily1 · 22/10/2015 19:52

Hi everyone

I'll own up to being another symptom spotter (even though we aren't trying yet!) and OH thinks i'm crackers with all the baby talk, but I can't help it! I'm also terrible at thinking about plans for next year - we got a wedding invite the other day for Summer 2016 and I was away in my head imagining maternity dresses to wear, even though I may not even be pregnant by then. I'm looking at it as positive thinking!

Runner - I was on Cilest too and have been for the last 3 years. I stopped taking it in September, had a withdrawal bleed and am now waiting for AF. If i've got the maths stuff figured out, this is cycle day 29, and I feel like its going to start soon, so fingers crossed. At the minute I'm desperately hoping for periods to make sure my cycle gets back to normal, which is weird when from January I'll be desperately hoping for no periods!! I've had no negative effects of coming off Cilest, so fingers crossed its the same for you.

Runner05 · 22/10/2015 18:34

Ni I wanted Yasmin but they gave me Cilest and ever since I've just put on more and more weight. Really depressing as when I started on them I was really happy with my weight.
I think after we have the baby I'll go on a non hormonal contraception.

Shelb my last pill is tomorrow. Woohoo!!!
Fingers crossed you don't have any problems coming off the pill this time x

shelbTa · 22/10/2015 17:27

Exciting news runner!!!!! When does your packet finish?

Well, just been to the docs and she was all casual like 'yeah you're fine for fertility at your age, yeah don't worry your periods should return to normal straight away', was not expecting that! Confused

Last time I came off the pill I suffered major hair loss though (and the pill I'm on is aimed to combat that) so that in itself if making me worry a little, was really distressing last time around

Bunch, there's no such thing as tmi I reckon! It's all helpful to know! I must give EWCM a go next month! Presuming I'll have a regular cycle AF will be due 2nd...but I haven't done myself any favours not waiting for cycle to regulate after coming off the pill so who knows really! Just trying to minimise alcohol intake just in case though!

Runner I was on Yasmin for years then 6 months ago GP swapped me to cheaper version Lucette. I'm convinced it has caused weight gain...that was part of my initial thinking about coming off it. So far I'm really glad I did, despite the headaches! I lost 3lbs the first week...clearly all water retention/bloating, but I've never had that problem on yasmin. Glad you convinced OH! It'll give you time to get familiar with your natural cycle anyway!

BunchOfBobs · 22/10/2015 16:58

Ni I came off the pill back in April, due to not agreeing with a change in pill type. Started actively TTC this month. Cycle not quite settled down yet had anytime between 12 days and 33 days. I think I ovulated between the 13th and 16th of this month due to ovulation pain and EWCM (tmi?!). I wouldn't have thought of anything of it if I wasn't dizzy and DH didn't put the thoughts in my mind. The headaches are getting on my wick now though as it's been everyday for a week. With the way my cycle is too I have no clue when AF is due. According the the tracking apps it could be between the 31st and 5th but it could be tomorrow if my body felt like it. Rather annoying. The moment I get sore boobs I'll be Poas like there no tomorrow. Until then I will just wait for AF to arrive as I know she will.

Runner05 · 22/10/2015 16:42

Just spoke to OH. I've been concerned for ages that the pill is making it harder for me to diet/lose weight so I suggested that I come of the pill after this packet and try to lose some weight before Christmas... He said yes Grin

We're still not going to activly ttc until December but im still excited!!!
