TTC #1 coming off the pill in December - anyone else in the same boat?!

Hi,

I am going to be coming off the pill after ten years plus on it after my pack finishes in December. Excited but also terrified about what my body is going to do once I'm without all the hormones!

Anyone else doing the same roughly the same time?

Shelb x

(Hope this goes through struggling to post)

AF finally arrived today - a 37 day cycle! I don't suppose that's too long if they are meant to last 28-35 days but I was starting to get a bit fed up. Hopefully this means I'll have a better idea when to expect it next month and can relax a bit more. We've decided to TTC in January once Christmas and New Year are out of the way - giving up alcohol is a good New Year's resolution and unlikely to raise many eyebrows! Hope this means that I'm still welcome here!

There are a couple of names we agree on but there will be plenty of time to figure out what to choose. It's a big decision, isn't it?!

I'm out of the house 8 am until about 6:30 pm on a good day and DH is out from 7:30 am until 6 pm most days. It can vary quite a lot for both of us. My employer has been happy for others to work from 10 am until 6 pm and DH reckons he could do 7 am until 5 pm without much trouble so I think we would be OK. Not looking forward to spending £50 a day on childcare though, which is apparently the going rate around here...

I don't think we'll bother with monitoring initially as I think we are quite relaxed about when it happens. If we're still TTC by the summer, I think we'll have to look into it though. I don't want to get too bog down with worrying! We're late 20s (together nearly 8 years!) so hopefully just about have time on our side...

avocadosarentmiddleclassed · 25/10/2015 20:07

Oooh I'm so happy to join this thread.. hello all!
DH and I going to TTC in Dec, I'm a teacher so would love to be paid over summer holidays, then start mat leave in September (probably won't go according to plan!)
I'm 31 so would be 32 when baby arrives hopefully.
Im just going to have lots of sex and see what happens, so exciting!

Pinklily1 · 25/10/2015 18:29

Just another thought - is anyone planning on using ovulation sticks? I'm swinging between just having lots of sex and seeing what happens (!) or getting on board with the OPK sticks and monitoring from an early stage. Had a quick look online for OPK sticks and there are so many - its bamboozling!!

Pinklily1 · 25/10/2015 18:06

I'm pretty much 8am - 6pm. We're lucky to have my parents nearby so baby would go there for part of the week, but there will have to be some time at nursery too. I'd always assumed there would be some that would operate longer opening hours as so many people work 9-5pm or similar!

shelbTa · 25/10/2015 17:49

Runner - I've bought some stuff called Dermamum from boots, slapping it on already.

DH and I were talking over tea tonight about the logistics of childcare after returning to work (we both leave the house at 7.30 and don't get back until 6.20). Most nurseries shut at 6.

Anyone else work 9-5 (or similar)? If my boss doesn't say yes to flexible working (which she may not as she's a cowbag) we are in trouble!

How depressing but apparently there's virtually nothing we can do to prevent them. Bye bye tummy! Sad www.mumsnet.com/pregnancy/stretch-marks

Pinklily1 · 25/10/2015 17:09

It's the Skin Therapy Oil that I have

Pinklily1 · 25/10/2015 17:08

Runner - I've got stretch mark oil. I lost a lot of weight a few years ago and have pretty much been an addict since then! I use Palmers. Can't remember what it's called specifically but it's an oil in a tall clear bottle and is for stretch marks. I've not bought any for a while as an well stocked up but last time I got it from Boots on offer and was much cheaper than Bio oil.

Runner05 · 25/10/2015 16:24

Ah, I see Pink So who who will be testing first? In theory I'll be testing 22nd Nov reminds self we're not actively trying to get upduffed in Nov

Thermometers are to take your basal body temperature which should do certain things at certain points through the month. It won't help you to know in advance when you're going to ovulate (unless you look at your data over several months. But it does help you to work out if you've ovulated and when and it's more reliable than ovulation prediction sticks which can be a bit hit ans miss.

Bunch sounds like you're having a fun weekend, but then I can talk... I've been starting at computer code for the past two hours shouting "Why won't you work!!!" Not how I would like to spend my Sunday.

Have any of you bought stretch mark cream yet? I'm thinking of getting Bio Oil but it's so expensive and I don't want to buy it if it's no better than cheap moisturizer. I want to start using it early in the vain hope that it will help.

Pinklily1 · 25/10/2015 16:01

We aren't TTC yet, I've come off the pill but we've been using condoms without any splitting issues or anything so I'm not expecting to be pregnant at all! I think it's just a bit delayed as it will be the first proper period following my withdrawal bleed after coming off the pill. I'm calculating CD days from the first day after I finished the withdrawal bleed, which I think is right!

It will be very exciting when one of us gets to test though! It will be fingers and toes crossed!!

Btw, what's the thinking behind thermometers?!

BunchOfBobs · 25/10/2015 11:55

Morning all,

Having a busy weekend here of tiling the kitchen floor so sorry I've been awol.

Stark ouch! How are you feeling today?

We've picked out names, but have for years really. One of those discussions that pops up every now and then.

Turns out everyone I know may well be expecting us to announce pregnancy soon. My best friend visited through the week and asked if we were TTC yet. As everyone knows I came off be pill due to disagreeing with it they all thought it was a ruse. Shock oh well. I can still expect an amazing response off my parents as they are desperate to be GP and I've told them it'll be another 2 years for me.

Not long till December ladies. I have my FX that November is the month for me.

Ni4444 · 25/10/2015 10:48

Morning all!

Runner I think I'll try bbt next month. Have 8 days until AF on first month ttc...it's gonna be a long week!!!

Shelb I'm excited for you!! That's a happy countdown to be on!! Wink

Pinklilly how are you coping? I'd be a tense wreck!

Runner05 · 25/10/2015 10:43

Ps I'm already bored waiting for AF to sod off so I hate to think what I'll be like with the tww Hmm

Runner05 · 25/10/2015 10:34

Morning ladies.

Exciting Shelb I bet you can't wait.

Pink does that mean you're late? Could this be the threads first test?

Well, my withdrawn bleed started yesterday do I'm now just waiting for AF to get itself over and done with. Started tracking bbt today which is exciting but I've discovered I'm completely incapable of opening the thermometer box first thing in the morning.

Is anyone else tracking bbt?

Pinklily1 · 25/10/2015 09:54

Morning everyone, and welcome Mor! How's everyone's weekends going so far?

We have a girls name picked out, I can't say what it is really for fear of outing myself! I like a few others as alternatives but OH has shot them all down. I like 'different' names but nothing chavvy. I love Ivy but it wouldn't work with OH surname. We have no boys names - OH only suggests superhero names ??, so I'll be praying for a girl when the time comes!!

Leonie - any sign of AF yet? I'm on CD 34 if I'm right and nothing yet. Had a few period like pains, which I usually get when I'm about to come on, but they have passed now.

shelbTa · 25/10/2015 08:57

Morning!

Stark be careful! Stiff as balls though, made me laugh!

Only my DH, my mum, and one of my friends knows going to be coming off the pill soon. Most of my friends have children now and I'm one of the last (and one of the oldest) so don't want to put too much pressure on myself.

27 days till stopping pill eek!

Don't worry Mor we won't kick you off, just join in with the rambling whenever you like.

What names have you come up with? I think we chose names a few weeks ago by accident. I know it's a bit premature but hey ho! Anyone else chosen names yet?

I think I've mentioned before that I've told my two best friends who were overwhelmingly unimpressed Hmm

Morwenna1 · 24/10/2015 22:34

Oh my god - I thought to myself, I haven't been on Mumsnet in a while, I'll just see what's happening over on the TTC thread. Er....so many people and so much info!! I must confess I am pretty hopeless posting on here regularly, but please don't kick me off the thread as it's so useful to read everyone's input and thoughts on lots of things!

Some things (vaguely trying to catch up with everything that's been discussed!)

  • I'm married, been together 10 years this coming new year, married for about 2.5 years. Became homeowners about a year ago...er, no-one mentioned how much of a money pit a house was!
  • 32 years of age (in case I didn't mention it before)
  • Now on 2nd month of TTC... I have bought pregnancy tests (cheapo ones and a decent First Response one) stashed away in the back of the wardrobe ready!
  • Bought that what to expect when you're expecting book. Read a bit at the start and then firmly closed it and avoided looking at the hair raising chapters about everything that can go wrong!
  • I love watching GBBO - used to watch Apprentice, but it's full of nobbo's (technical term) so I've gone off it now.
  • Currently using Clue on my phone - quite useful free app that shows the fertile window, and you can input lots into it as well. Also not patronizing-ly pink!
  • Haven't gone anywhere near a baby related shop just yet!! Just kind of trying to not get ahead of myself...although yet another friend has given a clue on social media that she might be expecting her second....sigh. Over it now but just had a shameful moment of complete green eyed envy!! Oh, and I'm obsessing over potential baby names.
  • Doc's told me at 30 to basically 'get on with it'. We wanted to get other things sorted first (like finding a less stressful job for a start!), so didn't really appreciate the sentiment! So much pressure from society. I love that Facebook rant that's gone viral about asking women when they want to start a family...i.e. you don't know my circumstances!!

Hope everyone is keeping well, and not going too mad with TTC fervour!

Sorry for long post - will try harder in the future! I'm crap at keeping up with things.

PS - Only my husband knows we're TTC, not told anyone (apart from you lot!)! Er, thought that would be the best thing to avoid questions all the time? Anyone else keeping schtum?

Runner05 · 24/10/2015 18:50

Oh Stark do be careful.

Pink I don't think it matters what test you get but the pink ink are supposed to be more sensitive.

I'm planning to get all my furniture new. I'm usually more than happy to get stuff second hand but we're only going to have one child and as I grew up in less than ideal surroundings I'm determine that while I don't want to spoil him or her I do want everything they do have to be as nice as I can possibly provide.

I received my thermometer today. Excited as it's just in time!

Pinklily1 · 24/10/2015 12:55

Oh no Starky, hope you are ok today!

We had a quick look at nursery furniture and prams when we were figuring out finances before deciding that we'd start TTC soon and everything is so pricey! Thankfully we'll be getting a few hand me downs from my sister so that will save a bit!

I was in the supermarket yesterday and was also surprised at the variation in costs of pregnancy tests - an £8 difference between branded ones and supermarket own brand! Surely they all tell you the same thing!

StarkyTheDirewolf · 24/10/2015 12:41

I'm married, been together 2.5 years, married for 6 months. I feel really lucky because we inherited a house. I've taken his name, but I don't think I've remembered it correctly other than the first couple of weeks after the wedding! Still call myself by my maiden name! Any babies would probably have his name, a double barrelling would be cruel given the two names together!

I've been looking on free cycle and Gumtree for cots and stuff, I don't think I could justify spending so much on them, Ikea seems to have some good value things too!

Managed to slip down the stairs and wind myself yesterday morning, bad back today! I'm stiff as balls! Ha-ha Grin

shelbTa · 24/10/2015 11:17

Hi ladies,

We've only been together three years, so not that long either! We've absolutely scrimped and saved too to afford our new house, no holidays, new clothes etc. We did some baby budgeting the other week and it's guna be pricey (no shi* Sherlock) so for the next six months we are really cutting back to try and pay off all debts. Fun fun fun!

It's quite nice to see so many of us in similar situations, I thought I was in the minority.

Ni that is a complicated one. Would either of your last names work as a middle name? I know some people get round it that way.

Purple how long have you two been together (if you don't mind me asking) we've been together about two years. Which when I write it down doesn't seem that long but we both pretty much knew straight away that we were stuck with each other Halloween Wink

BunchOfBobs · 24/10/2015 09:43

I'm married, have been for 18 months but it took nearly 9 years together to get married. Had he carried on dragging his heels I'm sure we'd have sprogged up without marriage.
I have DH name and so will children but my SIL has double barrelled whereas her Dc have their DFs name and their middle name is SILs name.
DH is the only male left in his family with the surname so I want to help carry it on for them where's my family has 2 males (my cousins) left to carry it on.

purplesmiler · 24/10/2015 09:02

Morning all hope your all well.

We aren't married either but have said in the future it will happen. When we got together (which seems more recent than many of you) we both said babies would come first given our ages and as we both really wanted children together. I'm 29 my OH is 32. We are just in the process of buying a house which is great for our future. Our children will have my OH surname but we may get married after having our first so it wouldn't be long until I had the same surname too.
