TTC #1 coming off the pill in December - anyone else in the same boat?!

Hi,

I am going to be coming off the pill after ten years plus on it after my pack finishes in December. Excited but also terrified about what my body is going to do once I'm without all the hormones!

Anyone else doing the same roughly the same time?

Shelb x

I definitely want to try breastfeeding, it doesn't happen for everyone but I really want to. My mum was only able to breastfeed me for 6 weeks due to milk drying up so if that's all I get then so be it. I have no issues with public boobage and like Starky I've picked out boob hat patterns. I fact I may make one today!

I've ahem bought 3 slings already so I'm all set for babywearing which also means breast feeding is a bit more discreet. Also don't want to fork out for a pram- sheesh they're expensive!!

We've got a few names lined up, DH isn't overly keen on the girls name but I'm adamant I'm having it after my Nan.

I'm not surprised you've given up on the book, it sounds horrific. Do tell though, do we opt for a cut rather than tearing? My mum had to be cut and I was forceps born..... 40 stitches Shock. She's a super women though- not even gas and air apparently ans she describes the entire experience as "lovely". I will not be as serene as her I fear.

Has anyone thought of sleeping arrangements yet? DH is against co sleeping so I want a co sleeper cot to enable less disturbance of sleep when feeding. I'll barely have to wake up to latch baby on. I want the babybay or Chicco next to me.

How's the back today Runner? Maybe less of the jumping on him than letting him jump on you Wink

Runner05 · 04/11/2015 07:22

Oh God, boob hats! That made me chuckle Grin

I decided to bottle feed as all of mine and OHs family were bottle fed and OH wants to be more involved with feeding. Also, I think that if I tried and failed to breast feed I would find it very stressful and depressing so I'm going to save myself that worry.
You can get little battery powered bottle heaters now that are a bit like a cup holder so there's no worry about finding somewhere to heat the milk and I'm looking forward to getting my brightly coloured pram Grin

We've got one boy/girl version of the same name that we like but we haven't been able to agree on any others yet. I think OH will be more receptive to talking about it once I'm pregnant.

Fertile period starts tomorrow according to Ovia but as its my first month off the pill who knows. Going to jump OH back pain or no back pain, just in case! Wink

StarkyTheDirewolf · 04/11/2015 00:41

I'm going to make us some boob hats for baby like the one I've attached!

I suppose it's one of those things that you never know how it will go till it happens! I love the idea of breastfeeding mainly because of ease like you say ni so I'm really hoping I can manage. I think it's awful though, how people can be so dividing, the way I see it, as long as baby is getting fed, that's what's important!

We've got one name we can agree on, other than that, its been interesting to say the least, DH and I have VERY different taste when it comes to names! But with our last name, we're going to have to be so careful!

I definitely want to try breastfeeding. In our family I was the only one who wasn't and I ended up with food intolerances and stomach issues. Research suggests a link. I know it doesn't work for everyone, and it's pushed so much that some people feel guilty and "a bad mum" if they can't do it which really isn't helpful. But I hear you about not needing bottles and sterilisers starky! Boobs are easier to carry when going out too-no need to find somewhere to heat milk! One of my friends breastfed and she lost the babyweight really quickly, plus she expressed milk at times from about 3months on so she could go out in the evening/sleep at night and OH could feed and bond! But hey ho it may not work for me...will give it a go and see how I get on! I don't look forward to the boob in public/in front of friends thing though! Will have to work on my strategy to do it without flashing people!!

Pinklily1 · 03/11/2015 22:28

Starky - I like the idea of a sling - hands free baby holding!

We have a girls name (and I have a few other girls names which OH won't agree to), can't pick a boys name that we both love though Hmm

StarkyTheDirewolf · 03/11/2015 22:07

Breastfeeding, theoretically, I'm all in. No sterilising bottles etc, I've literally got zero problems with public boobing, and I plan on slinging baby (not for the sake of AP or baby wearing, more because its hands-free and cheaper to buy/make a sling than a pram! DH has already said if baby cries in the night and needs a feed, he'll just leave me asleep, prop me up with pillows and latch baby on himself, then de-latch and burp baby ha-ha.

If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen, I suppose you can't plan on it definitely working or not, if it doesn't happen, we'll get some bottles.

anyone having discussions about baby names yet?

Pinklily1 · 03/11/2015 21:52

I'm not planning on breastfeeding. I totally understand people choosing to breast feed but it's just not for me.

Me and my sister were bottle fed and my sister has bottle fed both of her children, so that's very much the norm in our family. I don't want to have any of the awkward boob out in public issues and I also like the idea of other people being able to feed baby easily (meaning OH can get up in the night with baby!)

I may change my mind when the time comes, who knows!

Runner05 · 03/11/2015 21:35

Bunch you are welcome to "upduffed" to be honest I pinched it from someone else anyway. 'tis a good word though Wink

I have finally decided that I just can't read "what to expect when you're expecting" any more.
Every time I try to read it I get very cross at the inane woman who wrote it. I mean honestly, she seems to be trying to be all cutesy with you while at the same time telling you that being pregnant and having a baby will be awful! And the amount of fuss she makes about doing laundry, you'd think she'd never heard of a washing machine/tumble dryer!
What's most annoying is that I didn't actually learn anything from the book appart from what people mean by making a choice between a tear and a cut Confused

Anyway, rant over. One thing the book did make me think about is breast feeding. What are people's thoughts on it?
I've decided I'm not going to breast feed for several reasons, but that silly book really pushed the breast feeding thing as if it was unthinkable that you wouldn't try, so I thought I'd see what you guys think of it?

Pinklily1 · 03/11/2015 20:23

Bergamot - please tell me your boss was joking? That's awful!

I work in a law firm, so in theory work should be fine with baby related entitlements (at least I know my rights anyway!). Would love to go back part time, but will depend on the finances as I earn a bit more than OH.

Runner - sorry to hear you are in pain. If you haven't already been prescribed some extra strength anti-inflamatories, get yourself to the doctors for some.

BunchOfBobs · 03/11/2015 19:26

That should read "they can't tell you when to have children or scare you out of having them". I blame the headache.

BunchOfBobs · 03/11/2015 19:25

Shelb Bergamot you're bosses sound like arses. They tell you when you can have children nor tty and scare you out of having them. Thankfully the law is on our side.

I'm self employed so my employer is pro me having kids Wink Problem is the work I do. It's a tale of two halves, one half home based and I can do that until I pop, the other half involves working away and more likely than not client won't allow me there when upduffed (Runner I've totally stolen your catchphrase). The latter half of work is the big money earner. Another the reason DH gets cold feet "you could just do a couple more jobs".

Any tips for headaches when paracetamol doesn't work and I can't take ibuprofen (until AF arrived anyhow)

Runner05 · 03/11/2015 18:07

Thanks everyone. I've had a right grump on all day but I'm working from home tomorrow so hopefully I won't be in so much pain.

Shelb that's terrible about your employer. Unfortunately while employers do have to outwardly show that they support employees having families etc. most of the time it's all for show.

Bergamot what does your boss expect you to do, put your life on hold while she sorts hers out? Mental.

Luckily my employer is good to families so if I can't leave work after having the baby at least they will be flexible. I really do want to get out of the traditional office environment though, it really doesn't suit me.

BergamotMouse · 03/11/2015 17:59

I hope you feel better soon Runner.

Shelb - I know what you mean about work. My boss said that I shouldn't have a baby before her. She's 10 years older than me with no partner. I worry about how I'll tell her as don't think she'll be too thrilled. Oh well - I guess that's her problem.

shelbTa · 03/11/2015 17:22

Evening ladies.

Aw runner that's rough. And I know what you mean about having no energy at night - I can barely rustle together tea and then it's tv and that's it!!!!

Well today was interesting, had a meeting with my boss (she is single and has no children and doesn't want any) and basically my employer say they are pro women having children but they are quite clearly not from the stuff she was telling me!!! Pretty scary thought that that could be me.

Aw Runner, things sound crappy for you at the mo. And having physical pain only makes everything else feel even more overwhelming! Never mind telling yourself off for being tired in the evening, your body needs to heal so it is using up all your energy. You have every right to have a few weeks of resting and vegging! Maybe you can set aside a short amount of time at the weekend to do some of your business planning if it would help to feel like you're making progress? Are you on anti inflammatories to give your back a rest?

bunch that sounds like a pain! How's a girl to predict ovulation when everything is all up in the air?! I was definitely irregular way back when I went on the pill...so anything could happen!

BunchOfBobs · 03/11/2015 12:18

Oh Runner I really hope you feel better soon.

Ni yes and no, going off last month I'm not due on until Friday so I could not be late at all. I wouldn't be surprised if i went even longer and had a 37 day cycle this month- because Mother Nature is a cruel cow. I was the same when I first came off the pill, had two 28day cycles, followed by two 2 weekish and then a 33 day last month. Fun times. Month 6 after the pill and still not normal. I can't even remember what my cycle was like 13 years ago!!!

Runner05 · 03/11/2015 11:54

Morning ladies!

I'm in a right grump today. My back is killing me and my job is boring me to tears. I want to get on with starting my own business but I'm so mentally tired when I get home that I just want to veg Sad
Also, if my back isn't any better then I think I'm going to be out this month Angry

Anyway, grumble, grumble, moan, moan.

How is everyone else this morning?

Ni4444 · 03/11/2015 11:46

No bunch I'm still waiting for the go-ahead for the raw food and soft cheese!! Last time I came off the pill for two months I was exactly 28 days cycle each month so it should have been yesterday....but of course technically now my cycle can do anything it wants so it may just decide to be a few days late to torment me! If it's not here by tomorrow I may test again! I've had no headaches or cramps or anything since last week...so no signs one way or the other! You're 4 days waiting now?

BunchOfBobs · 03/11/2015 11:16

Morning all.

Headaches are back gah, sometimes I hate my body!! I'm still
Symptom spotting despite having little to no symptoms!

How about you Ni? Any sign of AF yet?

BunchOfBobs · 02/11/2015 23:08

Just a quick one before bed.

Morwen if you read around the threads on here you'll see that antibiotics as an excuse for not drinking is code word for "upduffed" to anyone in the know apparently. Definitely an excuse to be avoided methinks.

I don't run, positively hate it or it hates me. I love weight training, swimming and the cross trainer, but being asthmatic I just hate being out of puff, so therefore massively dislike cardio, it makes me feel panicky. Saying that though I managed a 5k obstacle run under 40mins last month so it's probably mind over matter.

Night all

Morwenna1 · 02/11/2015 22:59

Just discovered the TTC and 2WW thread on here, nice to know what that lady went through to get her BFP!

Morwenna1 · 02/11/2015 22:51

Evening!! Missed a few pages, so this is just a quick hello (I'll write properly when I have more time)...

Sorry about the BFN Ni - just keep swimming! (er, as they say)

Coming off Cerazette was ok for me - 3 weeks in and things had returned to normal. So far (touch wood) my cycles have been regular and around 27/28 days. And Shelb - I stopped mid packet as my doc just said 'stop taking the pill' Er, it didn't really occur to me to finish off the packet!! Lol!

No longer feeling as 'weird' as I did a week or so ago....must have been the indigestion!! So much cake around at the moment. MUST. RESIST.

So no news yet ladies, but the Witch is still a little way away....god this is going to get so bloody annoying each month!!

Alcohol...I don't drink a lot really, so it's normal for me to have just a few on occasion. Christmas is going to be interesting though! One excuse I thought is good is antibiotics..

Someone asked me today if I'd ever thought about having kids? ARGH (Insert expletive here)

Hello to newbies!!

leoniethelioness · 02/11/2015 22:25

Yes, I've just had a look at them! I'm really slow on the treadmill but I've looked at the times for the ones near me and I think I'll be able to do one and not be last once I've improved my stamina. Smile

I've been setting the treadmill to about 8.4 km ph but if I slow down to about 7.7 km ph I think I'll be able to sustain it for longer and finish in a time which would put me at the back of the pack but not last for a park run. New goal!

I'm following an 8 week programme so building up really gradually. Hopefully I'll get a bit faster by the New Year and ready for a park run. I'm going to try to focus on distance first and sign up when I'm sub 40 minutes! I know that's really slow but I'd be so pleased with myself if I did it!

Pinklily1 · 02/11/2015 22:18

fingers crossed for lots of upduffness all round!

Pinklily1 · 02/11/2015 22:07

Leonie - definitely start with a 5k. I just set myself small milestones, like being able to run 3 miles, 5 miles etc. Built up to 9 miles and a friend said if you can do 9 you can do a half. Once I did my first half I got the bug of trying to get a PB each time, then switched to marathons for a new challenge.

It's all about little goals to keep you motivated I think.

I've not done one but a lot of my friends do the weekly Saturday Parkruns and love them. They have them in loads of cities
