Hi any new starters on clomid
I just started my first round of clomid 50mg (3-7) had my scan on day 12 , two mature follicles on right and small one on left.
Had no side effects from taking clomid, but ovulation was so painful that I could hardly walk.

Would love to hear from other people there experience on clomid ..

Been trying for 3 years, miscarriage last year at 4 months, I do ovulate but not enough to substation a pregnancy, hence the clomid .hubby is fine with his sperm.. Am levels are low as well

So had my 21 day blood test done yesterday at doctors, only to have a phone call later that day, saying we have thrown your blood sample away and won't be testing as you have gone private, the only reason I went private was my fertity doctor wouldn't help me and said try adoption, well you can guess I left there in tears...so had it done private today .( they were brilliant) ... Arghhh..... Doctors haven't got a clue what we go through mentally each month and wish they were more compassionate and understanding to us that are trying to conceive... And today I feel cramps like the witch is gonna arrive.....????????????????????????

Hi peardrop,
Welcome to this thread, like you I never experienced any side effects,I've heard some horror stories....
Are u on your second round of clomid then, it's weird how clomid is meant to help us ovulate, but at the same time thins the lining of the womb...I'm on my first round my lining was 10 cm thick which is good, but who knows, hope Monday brings you luck let us know how it goes ????

Hi Ladies

mind if i join?
sorry not to hear of any BFPs yet but fingers crossed!!

So here's my story... we have been TTC for 2years now with no luck :( i have PCOS but DH is all ok...

so i started my first round of 50mg clomid this month D2-8 and surprisingly didn't have any side effects except a little moody on 7/8

so i had my first scan on Day 9 and i had 2 follicles at 8mm so they wanted me to come back today...so 2nd scan now and 1 follicle has grown to 11mm but clomid has thinned my lining to 4.9mm Sad so they want me back for another scan on Monday to see if any improvement... not feeling very hopeful and quite annoyed as before clomid lining was always healthy just was not ovulating...

anyone else experienced something similar? going a little mad searching google for answers Sad

Hey Banana thanks for sharing your story :) I am also lean and low estrogen - I have hypothalamic amenorrhea. I take my fifth Clomid tablet tonight... so far I've been rather hot at night and had slightly blurred vision.

It's great to have a small groups of lovely people to share the journey with Smile

VixxFace · 07/08/2015 18:15

Banana what a roller coaster! I am sure you don't know how to feel. The main thing is you had the big follicles that's what you want to see. My fingers, arms and toes and everything is crossed for you!

birchygoo · 07/08/2015 17:45

wow banana what a rollercoaster ride you have been on!! an amazing g story and fx for an even more amazing finish!!

bananafish81 · 07/08/2015 15:19

Hi ladies

Here’s the epic saga of my ovaries, this is a long one, so strap in! Apols for such a long post, but quite a lot has gone on….!

So, 5 years ago I came off the pill to go and get myself checked out, as I’d never had proper periods when not on the pill, so did wonder if something might not be quite working.

One nine-month long anovulatory cycle later, I have a private fertility workup where I’m diagnosed with PCOS, but everything else is looking dandy.

Dial forward 5 years and we’ve got married and want to start TTC. I’ll skip past the months of pre TTC planning cos of epilepsy and heavy duty pain meds for a spinal injury..

My gynae (private) had said we could start Clomid straight off the pill if we wanted, given that I’d basically never really had periods, so up to us if/when we wanted it.

In June I came off the pill just to have the summer to get one set of hormones out of my system before putting another lot in. Amazingly, I ovulated on my first month off the pill, and get a very light AF 2 weeks later. Which meant I could go and get my day 3 bloods done.

I saw my consultant last Monday for the results of my Day 3 bloods, and they were pretty much catastrophic.

When I’d last had bloods done, at the age of 28, my FSH was great (low), my AMH was good (high), my ovaries were polycystic but my antral follicle count was good and I had a cracking ovarian reserve. PCOS presents fertility issues, but it's usually very easily dealable-withable.

My blood tests last week indicated at 33 I had the ovaries of a premenopausal women in her late 40s. FSH ridiculously high (v bad), AMH practically non existent (very very bad). So bad that most clinics wouldn’t accept someone with those scores as the chances of getting any eggs out for IVF would be tiny. Seemingly crashing towards premature ovarian failure.

FUCK.

However the scan showed a different picture. There was def some activity going on in my ovaries, incl a dominant follicle, suggesting I was gearing up to ovulate this month. Whereas the blood tests suggested we’d see ovaries that were completely asleep.

In the consultant’s words ‘something doesn’t stack up’, as the tests are saying two completely different things, and all my meds over recent years might have sent my hormones haywire. So he starts me on low dose Clomid (50mg, 5 day course) to see if it has any effect at all on my ovaries - more as a diagnostic test than anything, as we obv didn’t expect anything to happen. So that’s why I had it from Day 8 - it was a bit of an unforeseen ‘oh shit let’s try and work out what’s going on’ decision, than a normal Clomid cycle.

The last week has been so so hard, as it was a lot to deal with. I’d gone from being polycystic with a good ovarian reserve at 28, to seemingly pre menopausal at 33.

I was coming to terms with the very real possibility I might never be able to conceive, and seriously thinking about the possibility of donor eggs. And very, very, very sad.

However.

Given the bloods, it looked like we’d need the sledgehammer approach to get any response, and the gentle nudge of low dose Clomid was likely to do bugger all.

Except it didn’t. I took it Mon-Fri last week, and on Tues the scan showed a nice ripe juicy 22mm follicle, and 2 other smaller ones that the Clomid had kicked into gear.

Fuck. Me.

Consultant said he absolutely didn’t expect to see this at ALL. He was flabbergasted looking at the ultrasound screen. It is v v v good news.

Holy crap, my ovaries responded to low dose Clomid. WTF?!

My lining was very thin, so even if we do manage to catch this egg, the chances of implantation this month are slim. And giving me medication to thicken the lining would throw everything else out, and he doesn’t want to bugger around with my messed up hormones even more.

Basically the lining hadn’t tracked with the follicles - and the Clomid also completely dried up my CM. And as he explained, there’s several parts to conceiving - getting an egg, getting it fertilised, and getting it implanted. Clomid’s helped with the first, but with hostile CM and a thin lining, that’s likely to make getting pregnant quite tricky.

Had a trigger shot on Weds, which means I should have ovulated today.

Which hopefully means I’ll have an actual cycle and even if I don’t get a proper period because the lining is so thin, my cycle will be reset so we can redo the Day 3 bloods.

Well, obv I hope I miraculously get a BFP in 2 weeks, but hey!

The Clomid response is v positive but the effect on the lining / CM isn’t great. He’d said in very lean women with low oestrogen anyway that can often be the case apparently Sad

And we still have the question of WTF is going on with my hormones. My bloods say one thing, my scans & ovaries say another.

My consultant is the lead clinician for reproductive medicine at Barts Hospital, so he knows his stuff. He said the bloods had him completely stumped and (his words) ‘I’m not usually stumped’.

So Christ knows what kind of medical freakshow marvel I am.

However, given I’ve miraculously responded to 50mg Clomid - which according to my blood tests shouldn’t have happened - then there is a v v v good chance that I should respond well to much stronger FSH stimulation for IVF

Head still spinning tbh!

PHEW

If you made it this far, have a Star from me and well earned Cake and Wine!

birchygoo · 07/08/2015 12:35

Hi Vixx, this will be starting my first cycle of clomid - Dr has given me three cycles worth and then talking about doing a laproscopy.

I am on a steep learning curve - you are all so knowledgeable so thanks

VixxFace · 07/08/2015 12:29

Banana waves back definitely not bored. It's good to hear other stories and get support!

Thanks for the info. Ivf is so complex.

Jackster123 · 07/08/2015 11:17

Vix ....I'm so sorry about your ovulation, have you had your amh levels done ( blood test) this can be done on any day of your cycle, nhs won't do it,but can have it done private...its gives you your over all fertility ..it tell you what your egg reserve are, weather they are low, worth giving that a go,

Banana.....that's a really good size follicle, weird how it's thinned your lining already,is there any thing they can do to thicken it,also strange that u have taken it from day 8-13, but all doctors are different...

I had my 21 day blood test today,so will find out next week if my progesterone levels are high,I have 2 more rounds of clomid left,if that fails the nite onto Ivf .....better plant my money tree and watch it grow

Yep for IVF they do 'controlled hyperstimulation' of the ovaries. Basically where Clomid is a light(ish) tap to nudge the ovaries into producing follicles which you hopefully release on your own, with IVF the FSH injections give the ovaries a massive kick to produce (hopefully) lots of follicles. You're given a trigger shot, like I was on Wednesday, to get the eggs mature and ready to pop - except with IVF they get the eggs out of the follicles before you have a chance to release them.

My gynae said some women are Clomid resistant - but not responding to Clomid doesn't mean you won't have a good response to FSH stimulation.

Keeping fx that the Clomid does its thing in the mean time!

Happy to share my rollercoaster story - strap in though, it's a bit of a beast!

(Apols and waves to Vixx who's prob been bored to tears by the saga of my weirdo body on the ttc with pcos thread!)

X

VixxFace · 07/08/2015 08:10

birchy sorry to hear af arrived but you can start second cycle of clomid?

For ivf they will use my eggs but stimulate them. Not sure of the whole process yet. Was trying to be positive and focus on clomid. If I can do 150 mg that gives some hope.

VixxFace · 07/08/2015 08:08

Eskimo are they going to scan you?

birchygoo · 07/08/2015 07:54

Vix I imagine they would want to try you on next dose up?

Sorry I'm new to this so please excuse the silly questions - for ivf if you are not ovulating would you use donor eggs or do you not need to ovulate for ivf?

Banana I would love to hear your story!

Af has started for me this morning. First cycle of clomid - I really don't have much faith in it as I am ovulating although very irregularly - 28 day cycle - 38 day. Will take 1st dose tomorrow.

eskimoflo · 06/08/2015 21:39

Vixx I think it's likely that they will up the dose to 150mg. I don't have pcos- I have just never ovulated since coming off the pill last November. No ovulation = no periods. I've had tests and scans and everything, and apart from my ovaries being slightly enlarged, everything seems normal. Confused

bananafish81 · 06/08/2015 21:17

Hi Jackster

I'm on my first round of Clomid, 50mg. Took it CD8-12, which I know is really weird, but it was essentially a panic reaction to catastrophic Day 3 blood results, my consultant wanted to use this as a diagnostic exercise as much as anything

Bit of a long and complicated story, don't want to overwhelm you all first off, happy to share if you don't mind an epic post! Otherwise just will say I had my scan on Tuesday and there was a 22mm follicle, plus two smaller ones. The Clomid has thinned my lining and dried up my CM, and consultant said he thought unlikely the lining would be thick enough to be able to support a pregnancy.

However thought worth me having a trigger shot and doing timed intercourse just in case. Had my trigger shot yesterday afternoon, got my peak on the clearblue fertility monitor and a +ve on the cheapy OPK this morning, so as per Dr orders DTD this morning and (hopefully!) tomorrow morning to do our best to catch this egg.

V sorry to hear about your miscarriage but keeping my fx for you! x

VixxFace · 06/08/2015 19:41

I don't know if they will up my dose. I am thinking ivf Sad

I have 20 clomid tablets 50mg each so I could take it next month.

I have pcos. how about you?

eskimoflo · 06/08/2015 19:27

Oh no Vixx, I'm so sorry. Sad Flowers Do you know what they will do now? Increase your dose to 150mg? Why are you on clomid? Obviously because you don't ovulate, but do you not ovulate at all (like me) or do you not ovulate regularly? x x

VixxFace · 06/08/2015 18:05

I had my scan today. 100 mg didn't work for me. Thickened womb lining but not even 1 follicle. Sad

birchygoo · 06/08/2015 17:48

Hey everyone - sorry we are all having a rubbish time.

I had a roller coaster drop in temp this morning so patiently awaiting af to arrive to begin clomid..! Oh the joys!! How long did it take you all to ovulate after clomid?

VixxFace · 04/08/2015 13:06

I am really sorry to hear about your miscarriage.

I can't believe the drs won't help you and you have had to go private. Fingers crossed for you to.

Jackster123 · 04/08/2015 10:26

Vixxface...let us know what your scan results are, hopefully 100mg will mature those follicles.

Eskimo....good luck with day 21 blood test

I'm currently on cd17 and have my 21day blood test this Friday,we unfortunately had to go private as my doctors didn't wanna know,I went back 4 times to have my 21 day blood taken, levels were ,16, 20 which is to low to sub takin a pregnancy, they want to see 30 and above, one month was 80, but still no pregnancy....????
Private only scanned me this cycle, the next two I will be on my own,but will still get the 21day blood test through my doctor
I have low amh levels of 4.4 which is classed as low fertitly

The last 3 years has been a roller coaster mentally and physically ,and put a massive strain on my relationship, but all is good now,I've tried every thing u can think of to conceive,so hopefully clomid will work for all of us ????

Hey Eskimoflo I remember you :) Yes just did the calculation and the painters (sorry, AF) finally arrived on CD381!! I don't think I really believed it as it had been so long. This time last year I never would have thought we would be where we are, but it is what it is and there are lots of folk who are worse off. Feeling like we're making progress finally. Hope the 100mg does the trick for you :)

hartmel · 04/08/2015 03:39

I was on clomid for 3 month.. The doctor I had back then was not very professional. He did not check my bloods, or did a scan.. I just noticed that my cloth didn't fit any more.. 3 1/2 month after starting to take clomid without being checked I gained a lot. Went from a size 7/8 to size 16..

Then I went to see a different doctor as I felt so miserable. Had a lot of headaches, felt sick all the time. And he found out that I had under active thyroid. Apparently clomid is good for your uterus but if you thyroid are not low it will kill all the hormones a well. Mine where weak. So I started taking pills and 1 month after taking them I got pregnant with our son. (We where told 2 month before that by a fertility clinic that I could not get pregnant naturally) and I got over the fact we wouldn't have kids but I wanted to loose that weight I gained because of clomid..

Just wanted to share my story

Good luck. And don't give up. I gave up too and now I have two wonderful kids under the age of two.. SmileGrin

eskimoflo · 03/08/2015 21:55

Let's hope so! I've been in so much pain that I didn't even consider that any of those things could be clomid related. I just put all of it down to the shoulder pain! Confused Smile
