Clear blue Digital Ovulation Test: the curse of the smiley faces.

I've always had fairly regular periods, uses to be every 28 days and lately every 31 days. This month I purchased a clear blue digital ovulation test as my partner and I are trying to conceive (apologies I don't know all the abbreviations yet). The instructions advised me to start testing on day 11 of my cycle- but it slipped my mind so I started testing on day 14. The first day I got an empty circle symbol, indicating 'low fertility'. The second day, (day 15 of my cycle) I got a flashing smiley face, indicating 'high fertility'. However it is now 6 days that I'm getting these smiley flashing faces with no sign (as yet) of a static smiley face which would indicate 'peak fertility' and possibly ovulation.

Does this suggest that I haven't- and will not ovulate?
Should I continue testing in the hope I get a static smiley face? (I have one test left in the pack)so this would mean getting a brand new test.
Is a static smiley face a definite predictor of ovulation?
Should I just wait to have my fertility testing later this month at my local hospital?
Any advice, feedback or suggestions would be great and thanks in advanceSmile

Hi there I have had 8 smiley faces and today got my first static face this morning (day 17!) Does that just mean a surge ? How long have a got to dtd before fertile window closes? We dtd on day 14. Not sure we can do it tonight! Might be tomorrow. I have been trying for 5 months and I'm 40 years old. Already have a four year old daughter. Just sick of thinking about it all! Help!

Taz15 · 06/01/2017 14:01

Hi. I am new to all of this. If I have had 3 flashing smiley faces but no static smiley face followed and this morning it has gone back to an empty circle, have I missed my chance?

Josie23 · 16/04/2016 22:11

So i have been using the clearblue digital advanced monitor! I feel pregnant within the first month and sadly misscarried 2 weeks after finding out!! 😢😢😢 We have been trying for a further 4 months now and nothing!! I usually have a really regular 30/31 day cycle peaking around day 17/18 dependant. I am now on day 27 due to have my period in 4 days max and still no ovulatuon. I have been getting constant highs now for the last 19 days. I thought i could possibly be pregnant so took a pregnancy test tonight but came back negative!! Im so confused... This has never happened since i have been using this machine. Has anyone got any advice or help please?
Many thanks!!

Mummybex no I've not got any. Got another high this morning, think i'll just keep trying to have as much s** as possible just now. I wonder whether my peak days could have been false xx

Hi folks. Sorry to be another hijacker but have a quick q.

I noticed when I ejected the test sticks on my static day yesterday that the two blue lines weren't as dark as each other (it was actually darker on a flashy face day!) - is that normal? Can I trust the accuracy of the digital face even if the dye test doesn't correlate?

(Kaytee you're not the first person that's happened to. OV on CD12 would be very early though. Do you have any ICs?)

Kaytee1987 · 31/10/2015 14:34

Apologies for hijacking this thread....
Dh and I are on cycle 3 of ttc #1. I bought some ovulation sticks and began testing day 9. Had low fertility 9, 10 & 11 then suddenly peak fertility today (12). I usually have a 32 day cycle although it has varied in the past. It doesn't seem right that I would ovulate this early, also it completely skipped 'high' fertility and wait straight to 'peak' - anyone else had this or can shed some light?

Isabella1542 · 09/08/2015 13:01

Hey sassyscholar72 am fine thanks how you are good to :)
I had been coil removed a week prior to the smiley face appearing. Had not had a period in five year from having the coil so was testing to see if I was ovulating ok. It was all a bit guess in the dark as I had no idea what kind of place my cycle was in. I went by when I had cramps and a slight bleed two weeks ago. The smiley face came when my glow app said it should of. When I bought the kit I was under the impression that the smile came when ovulation had occurred. So i didn't think sex the next day would possibly lead to conception. Now am not so sure at all. Pregnancy is fine now would just of liked another month to of gone by from coming off the coil.

sassyscholar72 · 09/08/2015 12:30

Hey Isabella hope you're well. I would hazard a guess and say that getting a static face meant you were preparing to ovulate despite the absence of flashing smiles. Did you start testing on the day as advised on the instructions? The test has clearly detected a surge in your LH which I think is a good sign and tells me you could conceive during this time?

Hey I would just like to throw in that I took clear blue digital ovulation tests for five days and got a blank face while my cheap dip sticks got a darker second line each day. Tested on the 3/8/15 and another blank circle the next day a solid smiley face. No flash ever came. So what does that mean? The box doesn't say anything about a flashing face and says detects a LH surge before ovulation. So had I ovulated with a static face even though day before there was no flashing face? Confused. Going by the box it's clear I was away to ovulate but everyone here is talking about flashing smiley faces but I never got one! Anyone else had this? Thanks

sassyscholar72 · 28/07/2015 08:15

Ladies today is my 4th day of using the OPK and I wasn't going to bother because I knew it would be another flashing smiley face- but instead I got a static smiley face!Shock Which would suggest that I ovulate earlier than I thought and perhaps last month I just missed my peak fertility period because I started testing later than advised on instructions. I just wanted to put this out here on this thread in case anyone else experienced the same. I'm none the wiser! Smile

Hi Rubberduck. I'm really sorry for the delayed response I've been away. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope that you are doing okay and feeling more like yourself. I know what you mean about the OPK. I've had the same experience of you: one day of circle and then loads of flashing smiley faces. I don't have the answers but I've heard a lot of women say that they got a static smile (peak) after many days of flashing ones (like after 9+ days) but I've also heard the opposite which is not getting any flashing smiles but still falling pregnant. I think the general consensus is that you should still DTD on the flashing smiley faces days as you're still able to get pregnant. Also, not every woman ovulates every month even when she has a period (and this includes fertile women with no health issues). Not sure if you knew that,I certainly didn't but it may help to explain things. I'm trying clearblue OPK for the second time this cycle. I did exactly what the instructions told me to do and I've got (so far) the exact same outcome as last time: first day circle, second day flashing smiley face......last time I didn't get a static smile and it looks the same this month. Very Frustrating. Let us know how you get on. Have your GP recommended anything? Hope you have a good day Rubberduck.

Sorry Rubberduck we've all drifted away from this thread. I'm sorry for your loss Thanks. Lots of OPK chat happening on the summer busses, come on over

Hey Villagefete! Sorry for the late reply. Firstly, don't despair. I know of women who got 7+ flashing smiles and then a static smile indicating ovulation. I personally got 7,run out of test sticks and didn't bother getting a new kit,so Lord knows whether I ovulated at all. And here's the other thing. Not every woman ovulated every month (even perfectly healthy young women with no fertility issues). So keep trying because apparently you could still get pregnant. Hope that makes sense.

How is every one getting on?
My fertility hospital appointment is next Friday. Bit nervous!Confused

Hi ladies,

I'm new to the clearblue digital ovulation tests after 11 months TTC. I started testing the day after I was supposed to, got 3 low fertility faces, and now i'm on my 6th flashing face, I want to smash it against the wall! My app says I should have ovulated on Thursday (although I know an app isn't 100% accurate) But in your experience is it likely I won't ovulate this cycle? I only have one test left for tomorrow and will go made if I have to buy a new packet!

Londonlady2015 · 13/07/2015 20:00

Haha banana a bit of both! ;-)

Hope everyone is well today

Banana79 · 12/07/2015 20:28

Sounds positive London and Kitty! It's amazing you can be so precise with the EOD moving into every day for 3 days. Do your OHs realise the military precision taking place or are they just grateful...?!

KittyandTeal · 12/07/2015 16:29

London that sounds like me. Positive tues so dtd the, weds and thurs.

In regards to the 'loosing it all' after I use a mooncup or a soft cup with a bit of pre-seed lubricant right after.

I know they're menstrual cup it they keep everything in and close to the cervix. The mooncup worked last time we were ttc dd1. This in my first month using softcups and pre-seed so I'll find out in 22nd if it's worked or not.

Londonlady2015 · 12/07/2015 16:21

banana sorry the tests aren't showing much but yes might as well just go for it and see what happens? I reread the leaflet and it said for a 26 day cycle (my average) I should have been testing from CD6 not CD11 which is what I did, so not sure if I've followed it wrong after all...

sassy that's great you've got a date in the diary to keep you focused, though I bet it's annoying having to do the waiting game!

My update - I'm officially in luteal phase. Solid smiley Thursday cd15 which lasts 2 days according to pack. Tested on Friday with boots and was +ve. Dtd Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Right this is my turn to tmi but as I've always used condoms I'm not used to the, er, practicalities of dtd without. Is it normal for stuff to come out shortly afterwards?! (Argh I'm cringing writing sorry)

Besides all this I've been shattered today. Shortly after posting earlier I fell asleep and can't muster any energy!

fruitlovingmonkey · 12/07/2015 15:37

I found a small leaflet in the box with my CB ovulation test that tells you how common it is to get flashing smileys for 2 days, 3 days, 4 days and so on. It also tells you when to give up testing if you don't get a solid smiley. Sorry I don't have it to hand but check inside the box, separate from the instructions

sassyscholar72 · 12/07/2015 12:26

Keep the faith Banana! Don't let those tests hold you back!
