Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

Sorry to hear that flymo, hope ur ok. I always turn to wine when mine arrives, maybe some chocolate x

flymo79 · 07/08/2015 19:02

Don't feel guilty enjoying yourself mascara!! It would be brill if you got your bfp but don't put life on hold!

flymo79 · 07/08/2015 19:01

Damn you af!!!! Showed up a day early Angry
Am cross and hormonal. Grrrrrr. Don't even feel like wine to commiserate as we've got the in-laws coming...

mascaraisamust · 06/08/2015 23:29

No real symptoms either way...another bfn today. I have to do the tests so I don't feel guilty enjoying myself! I have another two on stand by for my last couple of days on holiday (although it's two weeks tomorrow since dtd).

Mascara, fingers crossed this means you'll be getting your BFP very soon, I know some ladies do have to wait quite a while after their missed period for it to show. On the other hand maybe the vits have worked to lengthen your LP, though I'm sure it's very frustrating not knowing either way. Have you had any signs of AF coming/ pregnancy? Xx

mascaraisamust · 06/08/2015 15:57

I'm taking Mega B complex from H&B, 50mg of B6. It does warn on there about numbness and tingling.

I know how you feel, it's forever on my mind at the moment. Keeping busy constantly is my only distraction. I'm even going to take up yoga to try chill a bit!

AF still not here, should have been finishing tomorrow. 4 days late now. This is really starting to wind me up!

Thanks for your reassuring words Mascara, since TTC I can't seem to stop worrying about every little thing, so I start googling about it which then makes my worries even worse. I don't know how many times I've read people say if you relax it'll happen, but how on earth can people relax about it? Even when I'm trying to relax its on my mind 24/7 so I think I'm only really pretending to relax (have I totally lost it??!Blush)

Can I ask what vitamins your taking and if your taking B6 what dose? I started on 100mg yesterday but feel very dizzy today so think I might have to drop to 60mg tonight. Xx

mascaraisamust · 05/08/2015 22:20

Hi all, catching up.

mrs thank goodness you have gone private. You need action and you'll get it soon. So annoying.

Shary great news. Sounds like you will get some answers. It should be 7 days before AF. Even if it's a day out you will still catch the progesterone levels. Fingers crossed for you.

sunshine don't worry about BMI. I've had lots of little friends who got pregnant very easily. I'm only short so I'm classed as overweight right now with my BMI Confused, since stopping the pill I've piled on nearly a stone! I'm giving myself these mini breaks and then I'm on a strict diet! However, I'm not convinced that its just down to my lifestyle at the moment whatever as I'm not eating too badly, I've never been big and I'm pretty active but I'm piling on the pounds lately!

Still no AF! Maybe the vitamins have kicked in Hmm

Hello again Sunshine! Well, with my cycle being the length it is my appointment is actually in early September! It might be worth ringing your GP even if its just for a telephone consultation. The worst that can happen is they tell you to get back to them after 12 months but you never know they might surprise you Smile

mrsmugoo · 05/08/2015 19:34

Hi sunshinegirl - 11 days should be sufficient, 9 you might be borderline but I'd be happy in your situation!

sunshinegirl12 · 05/08/2015 19:21

Hi everyone

I'm new on this thread but have been watching with interest as I think mine is also on the short side, usually 11 days but the last couple have only been 9. This month I've started on the B50 complex and think I might add in an additional 50mg of B6, so total of 100mg, though I've no idea if it will help.

I've got myself into a right state today with obsessive googling, also because I have a slightly low BMI (not out of choice, I have always been this way it's just the way I am)so feel like everything is stacked against me, and I'm worried if I go to the Drs they will just tell me to gain some weight before taking me seriously.Confused

Hello again Shary, we are on another thread together, so pleased to hear your doctors have been good, when is your appointment? Smile

Xx

SharyBobbins · 05/08/2015 18:40

I take it she just brushed off your brushed off comment! Shock I'm genuinely shocked a GP could be so blase about it. I really hope your private appointment gives you the support you need. Sending good luck vibes xx

mrsmugoo · 05/08/2015 17:46

Yep, those words exactly! And she said it like she really was trying to convince me that (self inflicted) anxiety was literally stopping me conceiving as if it had some scientific basis. I mean....really?!

I almost hung up on her ConfusedConfusedConfused

I did say the majority of my anxiety was stemming from a feeling of being brushed off.

SharyBobbins · 05/08/2015 17:39

"All worked up"?! Is that what she said? Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock How patronising!! How on earth did you keep it together? x

mrsmugoo · 05/08/2015 17:05

Yes that's exactly what they're expecting! She basically said I can't expect to have a baby exactly when I plan to and that in two years I would probably conceive naturally anyway, that anovulatory cycles are not uncommon and that its perfectly normal to ovulate sometimes but sometimes not and most people aren't getting themselves "all worked up" each month on OPKs and so don't know one way or the other.

Just so bloody frustrating.

SharyBobbins · 05/08/2015 13:44

Mrs, the GP is saying they can do nothing for 2 years? That's disgraceful Angry They can't just expect you to put your life on hold for 2 years especially when the tests indicate there is a barrier to you conceiving. I'm glad to hear you've been able to go private but it must be incredibly frustrating that you've had to in the first place.

I'm already feeling nervous about the outcome of the bloods. I wish he'd said say 34 or 35 not either day as I don't want to pick the wrong one if that's even possible. I read somewhere that its supposed to be 7 days before your next period? So I guess day 35 is closer to that! x

mrsmugoo · 05/08/2015 13:32

Wow your doctor sounds amazing!

I just had a telephone appt with mine and got my blood results.

They were
Day 21 last cycle -

SharyBobbins · 05/08/2015 12:40

Mascara- that didn't quite go as expected! The GP was lovely and said I was okay to call after 6 months (I thought he'd say 12- I'm guessing its the more to do with the long cycles). As I got my 'peak' on cd33 last time he's asked me to come in for blood tests on either cd34 or cd35. He said they'll be testing follicle-stimulating hormone levels, luteinising hormone levels & progesterone levels as well as testing my thyroid and doing a full blood count. I'm just not sure whether cd34 or cd35 would be best (would it make a difference?) x

mascaraisamust · 05/08/2015 11:30

Don't let them get a word in edge-ways and blag them with stats! Tell them you've been using the CB fertility monitor too! I'm in the car currently, long drive!

OP posts:
SharyBobbins · 05/08/2015 11:26

Thanks Mascara, I'll definitely ask for the blood tests although I've a sneaky suspicion he's going to tell me to not waste his time & bugger off!

Hope you're okay & you've got a nice day planned xx

mascaraisamust · 05/08/2015 11:13

copa thanks for your input. I'm hoping they check for PCOS etc as my AF can be extremely painful! Got a doctors appointment next week so I'll be going in with my list!

OP posts:
mascaraisamust · 05/08/2015 11:11

Shary when the GP calls just ask for bloods to be done like the day 21 ones to confirm that you are ovulating and to see that your progesterone levels are ok. That's the only reason they've taken me seriously as my progesterone was 1 which confirms it's not ok and that I'm not ovulating.

I am confused, but with a progesterone level of 1 a pregnancy would not be viable so I'm trying to get the thought out of my head!

Just keep chatting on here, I'm on holiday so keeping busy!

Mascara you must be so confused right now. It must be so difficult not knowing one way or the other. How are you staying sane?!

I came off the pill in the new year & I'm currently on my 5th AF. I can't seem to think straight when it comes to ttc. Literally one hour I'm thinking 'its not been that long, try to relax about it all, give your body time to adjust' & the next I'm thinking that there must be something wrong with me because of my cycle length etc. Part of me is telling myself to wait 12 months to see the GP & the other half is telling me to get the ball rolling just in case....The latter part of me just won out....Shock
I've just called my GP surgery to see if any of the doctors there have a relevant specialism (they don't) & ended up telling the receptionist all of the above. She's going to get the on call GP to call me (I was NOT expecting her to say that) just for a chat about whether its to early for an actual GP appointment. I'm not sure what just happened to be honest! Now I feel sick! Sad
