Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

Hi luceean! Congratulations!! Thanks for your comments, it's really nice to know that chatting away is helping others. When are you due? You can't be two far behind me. How far gone are you? Congrats again!

Hi everyone
I hope you don't mind messaging. I found your post when I was searching for other women that had short luteal phases. I am 36 and TTC no. 1. We've been trying since November and since charting I had noticed that whilst my cycles varied, every month my luteal phase was 9 days. I had read that this would mean it was hard to conceive and because I read your post I booked an appointment to see the doctor today.

Crazy as it seems I became pregnant this cycle, confirmed by 3 tests, I found out yesterday so no trip to the doctor required. My husband has a look of a startled rabbit right now!

I wanted to write to say thanks for giving me moral support when I was struggling and also to say that it actually seems that a short phase might not mean you are out of luck entirely.

In terms of what worked for us...we charted and knew exactly when the peak time was (EWCM and OPK) and we DTD every day for the 3 days leading up and a bit every other day before. Embarrassingly exhausting :)

We're hoping we're lucky and things go well but also happy that we can conceive.

Good luck everyone!

mascaraisamust · 20/08/2015 18:25

I know, nobody gets it! Threads keep saying 'I'm so lucky'... No, I'm terrified to why you all are and I'm not!

DH did say I could write a book, you can see why people do!!

Oh mrs sounds like you need a break! I hope you get a positive opk soon.

sunshine I would dtd you never know!

Mascara every month I get a BFN I end up learning even more. I'll be a walking encyclopaedia by the time I get my BFP ;)

I know what you mean about symptoms - I've said to DH I would love to be sick from being pregnant as I'd be pregnant! I look forward to the symptoms. Bet I won't be saying that when I'm throwing up haha.

mascaraisamust · 20/08/2015 16:53

Sunshine I would do it tonight and tomorrow. Dont presume that your out. Our bodies do strange things... I felt the only thing that de-stressed me slightly was keeping busy! I was considering taking up yoga/Pilates before I conceived too.

Pretty symptomless here! 2-3 weeks on the CB (conception date). I'm supposed to be just over 6 weeks now (from last missed AF). I'm really envious of people that have symptoms as at least they are reminded they are pregnant. Waiting patiently for the nausea to set it (then I'll probably wish it wasn't here).

I don't know how to stop getting stressed, the more I focus on trying to stay calm the more it seems to stress me out that i'm getting stressed, although my situation doesn't sound anywhere near as stressful as yours Mrs.

I had a positive OPK on tuesday and this morning my temperature had gone up, so assume I ovulated yesterday. But didn't really have the usual ovulation twinges or same amount of CM (barely nothing) so just got a feeling this isn't my month. Gona get back on the B Vits tonight just incase, do you think its worth me DTD tonight one more time?

Mascara, how are you feeling now? x

mascaraisamust · 20/08/2015 13:02

Hey ladies! Mrs it's no good being stressed, I think that was my problem too at times as DH kept telling me to chill out a bit (easier said than done)! Maybe your tent break will be a good thing?!

Sunshine you sound like a wealth of knowledge!

Yeah I've read that book.
I do track CM, it's sticky atm.

I think I'm permanently stressed tbh! My husband runs his own business which I also work for as office manager so we do bring a lot of work politics and stress home, even though we try not to! My husband works every waking second of every single day - no exaggeration! It's not exactly conducive to TTC on a lot of levels!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 20/08/2015 11:45

mrs do you track CM? Have you been stressed recently? Your body can temporarily put a hold on ovulation if you're stressed (both physiological and psychological stress) - perhaps it could be that? Then you may ovulate later than usual. Feel like a sales person for this book but it explains in more detail how stress can affect the 'hypothalamus' gland which is responsible for a lot of the reproductive system.

Tracking your CM can help you know if your body is getting ready to ovulate.

Good luck x

Cd16 and still a circle on the clearblue opk.
Not looking good Confused

sunshinegirl12 · 18/08/2015 19:05

Oh I haven't heard of that before, I'll have to get the book so I can get myself clued up x

Sunshinegirl2015 · 18/08/2015 18:37

Yeah I read the whole thing in a few days and feel like I understand what's happening in my body more now.

Going to try the ttc method this month. It relays heavily on fertile signs such as cm and the feel down there as well as position of cervix and temps but it explains so much so I feel I am armed to tackle this month even better.

sunshinegirl12 · 18/08/2015 18:10

I'm thinking of buying that book too, did you find it helpful? x

Sunshinegirl2015 · 18/08/2015 15:17

Mascara yep doing what I can!

Also read in the book taking charge of your fertility that the wet watery discharge I experienced the other day is normal and is "merely an indication that the corpus luteum has disintegrated" and should coincide with temp drop - which it did.

Sounds horrible though haha not what you want to read when you're in the bubble of "I could be pregnant..."

mascaraisamust · 18/08/2015 14:49

Mrs, that made me laugh. Enjoy the tent! Your social calendar is very busy at the moment!

Sorry for AF sunshine, at least you managed to lengthen your LP by a day though. That's positive. Sounds like your doing all you can ladies, fingers crossed for you!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 18/08/2015 14:34

We've used it the past two cycles. It has great reviews and I like it as it doesn't feel too sticky it just feels natural. Let me know how you get on - fingers crossed for a BFP this month x

sunshinegirl12 · 18/08/2015 13:36

Thanks sunshine, we started using Conceive Plus too this month so fingers crossed x

Sunshinegirl2015 · 18/08/2015 12:25

I wondered about b vitamins but take pregnacare conception tablets which contain 727% RDA vitamin B1, 357% vitamin B2, 125% vitamin B3 and 714% vitamin B6 so not sure I need a supplement. 700% seems like so much!

I started taking evening primrose oil this morning 1000mg which I plan to take up to ovulation to help with CM and have been drinking 2L water everyday for last two weeks which I'm going to keep up too.

Last month was first month I noticed EWCM although only one day of it but not sure what that's down to - grapefruit maybe haha.

Hope this is your month sunshine x

sunshinegirl12 · 18/08/2015 12:00

Sorry to hear AF arrived, but atleast your not in pain and your LP increased.

I'm on CD16, i should have ov'd at the end of last week but didn't have any of the usual signs that I would, so I stopped the B vits and now thankfully seem to be getting the usual pinching pains and CM that suggest I will ov in next few days. After I know I definitely have, i might start taking the B vits again in the hope they'll lengthen my LP.

Hope everyone else is ok x

Sunshinegirl2015 · 18/08/2015 06:45

AF arrived this morning. Luteal phase was 10days this month instead of last months 9 and no A&E - the pain is bearable so silver lining!

On to the next cycle Xx

mrsmugoo · 17/08/2015 20:38

Yes back now. Lovely wedding thank you and got lots of sunshine and sleeeep!

I'm on cd13 so things should be getting interesting soon but as I've been away I've not started opks yet and no sign of any fertile CM so if I do ovulate it won't be for a few days yet.

I'm at another bloody wedding this weekend, spending a night in a bell tent when I'll probably be ovulating. FML.

mascaraisamust · 17/08/2015 15:31

mrs you back now? How was the break?
