Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

Shary, is your appt tomorow for blood tests? Goodluck with it all.

Mascara, sounds like a nice bit of well deserved pampering you have planned x

SharyBobbins · 02/09/2015 22:01

Sounds like a plan Mascara! xx

mascaraisamust · 02/09/2015 22:00

Thanks Shary, you're right. I think I'll shift this horrid cold as a priority and have my nails and hair done Grin

I think you need to do whatever feels right for you Mascara. After what you've been through during the past few weeks you must be sick of tests/doctors etc. but if it's going to put your mind at rest you should go back. I guess the more information you're armed with the better xx

mascaraisamust · 02/09/2015 21:43

Ah good Shary! It was on my blood list that got lost Angry so I'll be interested to hear the result tomorrow as it runs in the family too.

Don't know if I should book an appintment with the gp to get the other bloods done before my fertility appointment. I think I was right about needing the progesterone when she said it wasn't an option this time. Feel like I should go and get it noted in some form... Don't know what it'll achieve though. Maybe I should wait it out?

Thyroid is on the GPs "blood list" tomorrow Mascara!

mascaraisamust · 02/09/2015 21:23

Flymo get some CB opks, expensive but much easier to read. I've ordered some cheapies for now but I'll definately go back to them once things settle.

Relaxing does play a key part I think. The month I got the BFP was the one I was told I hadn't ovulated so I totally chilled out and had a good time and there you have it. It's much easier said than done though!

Shary you're doing the right thing not taking anything for now. I'm just on Folic acid for now.

I was asked to take part in a trial today about thyroid but they had to do bloods to see if I was eligible. Have you all had your thyroid checked? Might be worth it to rule that out. Simple blood test which can be done the same time as day 21/LH tests x

Yeah I'm megaHmm about it really, it's now predicted my af will be on cd 33 which is weird as I've been having 27 day cycles since I had dd... Sometimes as short as 26. Still, once af has been and gone at least I'll be ready for ov coming much later in the month and won't be trying to hop on the good foot every other day for the first two weeks! Don't think dh or I can cope with a fourth month at that pace!! Still frustrated I might have missed by a whole ruddy week! Rarrrr!

SharyBobbins · 02/09/2015 18:58

Hope you're okay after your scan today Mascara xx

I was looking at the Vit B complex in H&B last week but decided not to try it until after my blood tests. I'd told the GP over the phone that Seven Seas was all I took so didn't want to chance anything else before the tests. It's scary to read that it might be interfering with cycles.

sunshinegirl12 · 02/09/2015 18:31

Mascara, glad to hear eveything went ok and you can start trying again soon.

Sunshine, I will let you know if I try it, I think relaxing needs to be my main focus for the moment. Last christmas I said to DH i'll be really worried if we haven't got our baby or aren't pregnant by next xmas, so I think that is constantly in the back of my mind xxx

mascaraisamust · 02/09/2015 15:04

Supposed to wait for AF now to allow my body to get into a natural rhythm before TTC but I think its also for ease of dating the pregnancy. I will be TTC pretty much straight away I think once this cold shifts! Fingers crossed it doesn't take another 8 months to get my bfp again Confused

Mascara glad to hear you are ok. Are you able to ttc straight away if you want to? Thinking of you xx

sunshine if you do try reflexology let me know if you think it works! I had it once years ago and it felt so good.

mascaraisamust · 02/09/2015 11:14

Confirmed from the scan now. Everything has passed naturally. They said the lining has returned back to normal already x

Mascara, thinking of you today for your scan. xx

Flymo, that does sound a bit strange about your ovulation date changing, did you have any other signs of ovulation like pains or CM?

I've been reading up a bit more on reflexology to help fertility, apparently it is best to have it a couple of days before ovulation as it can help stimulate reproductive organs. I might give it a go after hol, if it doesn't help atleast it might relax me xx

flymo79 · 02/09/2015 06:02

Hi judy! Sorry you're having the same vit b confusion!
Just did my temp and My app just changed, it now thinks I ov'd two days ago!!! Am on cd 27! Wtf?????!

Judylamb · 01/09/2015 22:04

Hi
I started to take the Vit B Complex. I ov'd a day if two earlier but am currently convinced af is in the post. On Cd25 (7dpo) but have pains like I get just before af even though My normal cycle is 29. Maybe Vit B brought forward ov but didn't lengthen my luteal phase?!
It's very confusing and frustrating!'n ????????

mascaraisamust · 01/09/2015 20:12

I switched to pregnacare when I got my bfp. Maybe I should have kept on with the B complex instead but the quantities weren't much different so I didn't think it would matter. I was taking the Seven Seas B complex ones when TTC which have much lower dosages that the HB ones.

That's good Flymo, hope this is the month!

Sunshine the holiday sounds perfect, relax and have fun! I would love another break now, even if I've just come back Confused Still trying to shift this cold.

Thinking of you with the scan mascara. And thanks for asking about q's for the fertility clinic, I'd love to know what they say about short LP in general, and lengthening it, if they suggest vits or if they're more about the drugs.
Would be due af on thurs. I'm on cd 26 today but app reckons af came this time last month...

sunshinegirl12 · 01/09/2015 18:25

Thanks for the reassurance girls, it really does help. I'm one of those people who just can't gain weight, I've been tested for thyroid etc with no issues, and as I'm not a sickly person and seem to be ovulating ok I don't think it is the reason, but just worry that I won't get the help I need. I suppose if they did palm me off I could always pay to go private in the hope they'd take me seriously.

I really don't know about the B complex Mascara, there are reasons for and against it, maybe wait to see what the specialist says - thats a good list of questions you have prepared. I did read somewhere that one of the B vits (B6 i think) is good for morning sickness which would suggest to keep taking it after the BFP but would definitely see what the experts say first. Did you keep on with the B vits this time? How are you feeling now?

I am due to ovulate in the first week of my hol with AF due on the day we fly home. Have told DH we are going to DTD every day on hol.

Flymo, when would you be due AF then? Xx

mascaraisamust · 01/09/2015 16:51

I'm confused too if that helps ladies. I don't know what vitamins to take anymore. I want to take B complex again as it worked but part of me doesn't want to because of the outcome and part of me thinks it was just coincidence that I got the bfp the month I took it so did it actually do anything anyway... any thoughts?

I've got to have AF first so don't know why I'm even worrying about it yet, when that will appear now is anyone's guess.

I will try ask some of our questions at the fertility appoinment for us. Any to add?

  1. Does B complex delay ovulation?
2. When should you take B complex? Throughout the cycle or after ovulation?
  1. If you take B complex should you continue with it when you get a Bfp and if so for how long?

I agree with Flymo sunshine, three of my friends recently have had babies are they are tiny. Go to your gp Sunshine with your stats to hand and be firm.

Scan tomorrow morning to get over now.

oh sunshine, it's awful and I really feel for you. You never know, the doctor may be really understanding, I have friends who have v high metabolism, are skinny rakes and have had babies. I know it can feel like GPs rush you out, but if you are firm about what you want you should leave feeling listened to.
kisses for you

sunshinegirl12 · 01/09/2015 12:08

I don't know Flymo, but after taking them I only had a very short luteal phase of about 7 days where it is usually 11, and had a much lighter period than what is normal for me, so I am scared to take them again.

I'm having one of those days where I've got myself into a right panic that it'll never happen for us, I really need to go to the Drs but as I have had to recently change my surgery I'm fairly sure they will just blame it on me being underweight and tell me to go away and gain weight before they take me seriously. I can't concentrate on my work I feel so worked up. I hate how ttc can make me feel positive one day and the next like this.

How is everyone else doing? Xx

flymo79 · 01/09/2015 10:32

...also does this mean you should literally only take them after you've had some sign you've ovulated, i.e. to keep ov forward but push back on lp?

flymo79 · 01/09/2015 10:22

thanks for replying gals, interesting to hear you both had delayed ov. I am on cd 26, I use the Glow app to track ov and have started charting bbt this month but very confused as it's so up and down! I def started getting a temp rise on cd 23, before that it was literally up one day, down the next for about a week. I didn't get a +ve on an opk at all this month though... that is why I'm finding it a bit weird! The week I usually get a +ve I only had very very faint (as in hardly visible) lines, so assumed I'd missed or it hadn't happened yet, the lh surge was either receding or hadn't happened. We dtd like mad leading up to cd 18 but then for various reasons (dh put his back out!!) we could no longer get on it... think this month is deffo out for me but am interested in these b-vits and what they're doing!!
BTW my app keeps saying I'm 7 dpo and has just decided for itself that ovulation was on cd 18... could be based on previous months I guess

mascaraisamust · 31/08/2015 20:34

Thanks Flymo.

I think I ovulated late on them too which would explain the late bfp. I reckon I was 3/4 days late to ovulate. Thoigh for the BFP so it's odd.
