Short Luteal Phase

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

Yes Shary stick with us!

Sunshine I really hope this is it, a good sign that your temp is still up too.

My fertility appintment isn't until mid November now. Hope I have my BFP by then! Hmm

Yes don't leave us shary!

Keep positive. AF due in 3/4 days for me. No longer have the hot cheeks. Think it was just because I've worked like a nutter this week working over 50hrs!

No symptoms so far today at 7DPO although discharge is creamy and cervix has moved up again to a mid height when I should be low and dry which is odd :S but temps still up.

SharyBobbins · 11/09/2015 07:24

To be honest Mascara because it feels like much longer it came as a bit of a reality check to me too. My best friend asked me yesterday what cycle I'm on, checked my app and I'm heading in to the 6th one now. She pointed out that it took her 7 cycles to conceive her last baby and she's really fertile! My AF started 13/14 days after ovulation so I guess my luteal phase isn't short like I thought it was- I'd like to stick around on this thread though!

mascaraisamust · 11/09/2015 06:44

Good plan, didn't realise it had only been 5 cycles. I think by Xmas is the aim for everyone Confused it'd be great if we all had our bfps by then Smile

Sorry Sunshine I think we posted at the same time earlier! Yep they've been drip feeding me these results all week claiming they weren't there and then magically finding them!

I don't think my GP would pursue any treatment at the moment, to be honest I'm surprised they ordered the bloods because whilst I've been ttc for 8 months it's only been 5 cycles. I think once it gets to a year OH will get himself checked out but for now I'm going to try and relax a bit more and see if we can get a BFP before Xmas xx

mascaraisamust · 10/09/2015 21:18

Sunshine its sounds all very promising! Try to keep busy this weekend and before you know it will be AF due date and fingers crossed it won't arrive! Being bloated was my symptom!

Oh Shary, if everything's normal then that's good but frustrating as you want a fix. Can you another appointment with the gp and see if you can get a referral? You'll get their Shary x

Sunshinegirl2015 · 10/09/2015 19:36

So what is the next step for you shary? Did they say just keep trying?

SharyBobbins · 10/09/2015 19:31

Sorry your appointment isn't sooner Mascara, there's so much waiting with ttc :( I got the FSH & LH back today, both of which are apparently normal. Currently day 1 of AF! :( Hope you're okay!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 10/09/2015 19:31

Oh I so swore I wouldn't symptom spot but I can't help it.

6dpo and with a usual 9/10 day luteal phase I'm due AF Monday/Tuesday.

Half way through the day at work my face started burning like I had a temperature. My cheeks look really red but apart from a burning face a I feel fine. One older woman at my work said to me are you coming down with something and I said I hope not a I feel fine just hot and she said ooh you never know you might be pregnant. No one at work knows I'm ttc and ever since she said that I've been obessesing.

I also feel like I've done a lot of sit ups but looking back over my notes I had that in cycle 2 and obviously didn't get pregnant so not sure that means anything.

Damn this 2WW.

Anyone else symptom spotting?

And shary it sounds almost comical that they had the results after you calli every day!

Oh I know how you feel mascara I've got my vaginal ultrasound scan next week which the process for was started in July!

mascaraisamust · 10/09/2015 17:58

How annoying. Got a new appointment through today, over another month to wait...

Thanks Mascara, I'm going to get back on to them tomorrow- it'll be the 5th day I've had to ring that bloody surgery! Turns out the results I got today have been there for a few days as well- they were "hiding" behind my thyroid results apparently!! In other words, they couldn't find them!

mascaraisamust · 09/09/2015 21:29

30 is definately ovulated too Smile

That's good Shary! Much better than my 1 Confused the LH test should have been done at the same time if they requested it. Ring them back tomorrow.

Sandy, that's interesting. In definately would use progesterone if I was given it. If they will!

My fertility appojtment has been cancelled! No explanation!!

OP posts:
SharyBobbins · 09/09/2015 16:22

Hi Sandy- do you mind me asking what your progesterone levels were?

I've just got my hormonal bloods back. My progesterone was 33.1 and testosterone 2.4 which are apparently both normal. I'd heard over 30 means you've definitely ovulated?

On my blood form it said they were testing for follicle stimulation hormone and lutenising hormone too but this wasn't mentioned in the results today.

Does anyone know if this is a separate test or part of the progesterone/testosterone test?

Jumping in late and without reading full thread, but wanted to share my experience.

I developed a short LP (6-9 days) after miscarrying my first baby. My GP did believe me when I said I had confirmed it with ovulation sticks and temping, and ordered a couple of day 21 progesterones. The first was barely high enough and my period came very soon after, and the second was too low. On the basis of this, the fact I spotted several days each cycle and miscarrying again, my GP referred me to a specialist.

Unfortunately, the specialist did not believe in low progesterone and said you either ovulated and could get pregnant or you didn't - there was no 'weak ovulation'. I saw limited improvement with herbs, acupuncture, maca and pretty brutal diet changes (no sugar, caffeine, cow's milk). Finally, I thought sod it and ordered natural progesterone cream (Emerita, from Amazon) and started using it 3 days after ovulation at the maximum dose. I got pregnant that cycle and now have a ten month-old on my lap!

The cream is expensive (especially if you use it the whole pregnancy, like me) and neither my doctor nor complementary therapists recommended it, so I was self-medicating. If ever tried for another, I would try and get progesterone from my doctor again but if he said no, I'd do the same again in a heartbeat!

No idea why I had the short LP. A scan did show borderline PCOS, but I did ovulate each month.

Sunshinegirl2015 · 09/09/2015 08:32

mascara I've just been noticing everyone's perfume or aftershaves and there's a fish and chips shop a few shops down which I've never smelt from our store before but the last few days have been able to smell. Maybe it's the way the winds blowing or something. Trying not to look in to it too much as currently 5dpo. It's not making me nauseous though. Just hungry lol.

Had my smear the day before I ovulated and have read lots of people get a BFP after a smear. Guess I'll know soon as longest luteal phase has been 10days and shortest 9days.

Good news you can start trying again. Fx for you. X

mascaraisamust · 09/09/2015 06:39

Sunshine I have an awful sense of smell but that was my first symptom as I could smell everything! Fingers crossed for you.

Shary good news about the LP though even if you think you're out.

Poas and all negative now so I'm good to go again soon. Got OPKs at the ready x

SharyBobbins · 08/09/2015 21:26

I guess you're right Sunshine but I just know it's not my time. I don't actually have any tests in the house so even if I wanted to I couldn't POAS!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 08/09/2015 21:23

Oh shary I always read that you're not out until AF shows so there's still hope x

SharyBobbins · 08/09/2015 21:10

No there's no point Sunshine because I've got period pains so AF will be here in a few days, if not tomorrow :(

Sunshinegirl2015 · 08/09/2015 19:37

Oh that's something at least! Have you taken a test?

SharyBobbins · 08/09/2015 18:58

I plan to pester Sunshine, I'm literally ringing them each day!

Oooh that weird about your sense of smell!

I do have a positive which is that I'm apparantly 11dpo which means my luteal phase might not be as short as I expected....

Sunshinegirl2015 · 08/09/2015 18:51

Nothing from me - currently 4DPO with no symptoms yet other than I feel like I have a more heightened sense of smell than usual in that I've smelt things at home or work and DH or colleagues have commented on it which made me think hmm but I think it may just be one of those things that I want to meant something but probs doesn't. Too early to tell.

Oh shary that's a long wait! Keep pestering them for those results!

SharyBobbins · 08/09/2015 18:22

Hi Mascara, how are you?
I'm still waiting for the hormonal bloods to come back : ( So far I've had full blood count, white cell count, thyroid & diabetes (didn't even know they were testing for that!) all come back as fine. The GP who ordered the bloods is on holiday at the moment but my assigned GP commented on the latter two so hopefully that means if the hormonal bloods come back this week he'll comment on those. I'm getting quite frustrated at the wait!!
