Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

Day 13 and a slightly unexpected but very welcome flashing smiley this morning. DH instructed to wake me up for dtd when he gets in from working late tonight!

I almost peed on my bbt thermometer this morning I was so tired #ttcproblems

Sunshinegirl2015 · 15/09/2015 07:06

Whoah past my usual 9/10 day luteal phase.

Currently on 11DPO and my temp went up this morning by 0.13C when I was expecting it to go down and for AF to arrive.

Have had no more spotting since last night either which was only when I wiped and was a very small amount of light pink.

No cramps (touch wood) but BFN this morning.

Not getting too hopeful yet but not sure what could've caused LP to lengthen.

mrsmugoo · 14/09/2015 23:04

If you have a few hundred quid in savings or on a credit card I would recommend anyone with this issue just going private and sorting it out then and there with no fuss! the difference in my treatment was just huge - private doctors actually want to help you, they aren't mentally prioritising you and working out how to fob you off so you don't impact on their budgets!

mrsmugoo · 14/09/2015 23:01

It's progesterone in a pessary. I'll be taking it for 2 weeks after ovulation to artificially extend my luteal phase, which was only averaging 7 days. And then continue for 12 weeks I get a bfp.

I get to poas after the two weeks of taking it - so I can relax for my tww now as I know for sure I'll get my answer one way or another on that day and no sooner!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 14/09/2015 22:28

Thanks Mascara for asking. She's kept away so far. 10DPO today but I think she may arrive tomorrow as temp has been dropping and tonight I have pink spotting. I don't usually get spotting have only had it once before and that was the time I ended up in A&E so have got the codeine the GP prescribed me by the bed. Until she shows though I'm still hopeful but BFN today. Usual luteal phase is 9/10days.

Would you buy a progesterone cream online? Seems silly they wouldn't prescribe something if it could help. Hopefully doctor is more helpful this time.

Fx for you mrs - what does cyclogest do?

Let us know about Gp. I have my vaginal ultrasound scan in a few days and then appointment to to get the results the week after so will let you know how I get on.

Oh mascara, so sore to hear of your mc :(

I've been prescribed progesterone for the first 12 weeks of any pregnancy, it's a huge relief to me!

mrsmugoo · 14/09/2015 21:49

Hi ladies - been on holiday and my phone app has stopped working so I've not posted for ages!

I picked up my private prescription of cyclogest today. It's cd12 and a circle in the opk (of course, who am I kidding?!) and I also started temping today in the run up to ov which should be around the weekend.

Hope everyone is well, I'll read back and catch up when I can.

mascaraisamust · 14/09/2015 16:13

Sunshine has AF kept away? Fingers crossed it has!

Flymo you are right. Since the emc I am far more chilled, bizarrely. No amount of worrying/being extra careful will change a thing!!

Read so much about progesterone over the last few days though and how people find it so difficult to get a prescription in this country. Seriously looking into going private as if (when) I get a BFP again I don't think I'll be able to keep calm knowing that my levels possibly won't sustain the pregnancy (I know I've sort of self diagnosed here but hey)!

Booked to see the gp in a few weeks time and taking my 'gynae' nurse let appointment (??) with me as I'm not sure what that even means! I'm hoping the GP will take pity as it's the same one who told me to 'see how I get on with this pregnancy' before I make demands like wanting progesterone. Don't want to say 'told you so'...

All good here, still awaiting AF but playing it all very casual in the hope it'll never turn up x

still lurking, so sorry to hear your story kitty... hoping that this is the start of something positive for you. Am determined to be chilled this month, managed to stay away from google/mn for a week or so while I rode out af, now I'm back in the saddle it's difficult not to try to seek solace from the charting/mn-ing/googling, but my friend keeps telling me that nothing is going to give me a bfp except the right time! frustrated that we are on cycle four, but aware it could be a much longer journey and trying to remember it's a marathon not a sprint! we are past the time it took us to conceive dd1...

Sunshinegirl2015 · 13/09/2015 21:44

Thanks Mascara just had a moment feel better today no cramps. AF due tomorrow or Tuesday. Today is 9dpo and bfn and I know it's too early to test but couldn't resist. I've turned in to a crazy woman!

How are you feeling? Hope everyone has had a good weekend x

mascaraisamust · 13/09/2015 20:31

Sunshine I didn't see your post! Try not to stress out and back away from Google! It will either happen or it won't. Google hasn't got the answer. A few more days and you'll know for sure Smile

Dull aches are common, the symptoms for AF and a bfp are too alike! Fingers crossed for you x

Let us know how it goes Kitty.

I think I'm going to see my gp one last time as I'm considering getting a private consultation now.

How's everyone getting on? Sunshine AF staying away? X

KittyandTeal · 13/09/2015 09:29

Thanks mascara. I don't think I'll restart using it. I prefer fertility friend but I do need the data from it to prove my LP has never been longer than 11 days since my tfmr excepting the month I had my CP.

mascaraisamust · 13/09/2015 09:13

I deleted my ovia in a huff too kitty, restarted it now though.

Have AF type lower back ache and light dull cramps.

Just burst into tears on sofa DH thinks I'm crazy but is very supportive.

Just feel like AF is coming and I'm 8DPO. DH bless him keeps saying being emotional is a good sign but I think it's just because I feel all PMS like that I feel down. Time will tell and if I do get a BFP then I'm sure I'll feel like a fool for crying. And I'm symptom spotting googling everything trying to stay hopeful.

For example I've had lots of creamy mucus the last few days and I'm sure my cervix is mid way not low and I have had headaches on off today when I never get headaches and have been having hot flashes mostly in my cheeks for the past few days too. Argh silly body.

Ok feel better for getting that out there.

KittyandTeal · 12/09/2015 16:49

Just realised I can access the data online. Off to the docs for me then

KittyandTeal · 12/09/2015 16:17

I think I will. Annoyingly I was using ovia then moved over to fertility friend. I had a temper tantrum a few months ago and deleted all my ovia and th data so I've only got 3 cycles of fertility friend data. How annoying!

mascaraisamust · 12/09/2015 14:54

kitty i'd definately got to your gp then and show them your recorded stats. Be firm and get those bloods.

Jelly like you say the CB will pinpoint it exactly and a gp will be more likely to listen if you are recording your cycle. Are you using an app? Just try not to get stressed out with it all (easier said than done) x

jellybelly85 · 12/09/2015 14:29

Thanks for the advice mascara and sorry to hear of your MC. Fingers crossed for your next cycle. I've been using cheap opks, but this month have CB tests with dual hormone - so we'll see what happens with that.

KittyandTeal · 12/09/2015 13:36

Thanks mascara.

I have been using opk, the cb duel hormone ones, and temping too so I can pinpoint ovulation to within a day. I've done those both for 4 cycles, the first cycle I just used opk.

I know I'm definitely ovulating as I'm getting 2-4 days of flashing smilies followed by a static then a temp rise which stays up. I've found my temp starts dipping 2 days before af then drops below cover line the day af arrives.

It does make me wonder if the early end to my pregnancy has caused my hormones to go a bit mad. It look a good while for them to settle and now it seems I have a fairly short LP. I wonder if the doc will offer me 21 day bloods if I've only been trying 5 cycles (short cycles making it around 4 months) but like I say, time is not on our side. I think I would need to stop ttc after 35 as the risk of a life limiting/lethal trisomy goes up to 1:hundreds rather than thousands. It's not a risk I think I'm willing to take after loosing dd2

mascaraisamust · 12/09/2015 11:32

Hi Kitty and Jelly.

Kitty sorry for your loss, it sounds like you've had quite a rough ride recently. You're obviously really fertile if you keep managing to get bfps but if they don't stick and cause chemical pregnancies it could be a progesterone/hormonal issue. 9 days isn't too bad, are you using opks?

If not, I'd start using the CB ones this month to track it properly and pin when your peak is (remembering you could ovulate 24-36 hours after a peak) and if it is still short this month go to your gp and ask for day 21 bloods to check your progesterone levels to rule that out.

We have tried B complex which worked for me and I got a bfp but it ended in mc. Vitamin c which i also took the month I got my bfp.

jelly if this is your third cycle my advise would be to give it a couple more and see it your body falls into a natural rhythm. It took me about 5 cycle to pinpoint everything exactly. Again don't use cheap OPKs this month try the CB ones and make sure you dtd after the peak not just on the day. I waited until 6 months before getting my bloods done.

I'm now on cycle 9, took me 7 cycles to get my first bfp, as I say that was with b complex and vitamin C 50mg but after the mc I'm going back to basics as like kitty the mc may have changed my cycle.

Waiting on my first AF since mc here x

AF has arrived today. This is my 3rd cycle since starting TTC (after coming off the implant) - ovia tracking shows I've got LP of 9 days.

I had no idea until reading this thread that a short LP may be problematic... I know I've only started TTC, but wondered if you lovely people could advise me on whether this is something to raise with a GP or whether I should be worried?

KittyandTeal · 12/09/2015 09:10

Hi all,

Sorry to gate crash! I haven't rtft I'm afraid but I've got a few questions that I wonder some of you might be able to answer.

I have dd1 who took a few months to conceive, not hard at all. We lost dd2 in jan. she was conceived very easily. She had T18 and I had a termination for medical reasons at 22+2.

We have now been ttc number 3 for 5 cycles. I know this is not long at all. I've always had shortish cycles, however, I have noticed that my luteal phase is around 11 days. This months was only 9! I had a chemical pregnancy a few months ago and my luteal phase was 14 days but I think that was because I was 'late' before loosing the pregnancy iyswim.

I guess my question is does this sound like a short LP? Could it have been caused by my dd2s induced stillbirth? If it is a short LP what on earth do I do next? I know doc generally won't be interested until you've been trying for a year, however, I am now at a much higher risk of having another baby with a trisomy, this risk goes up with age and will rocket at 35. I will be 34 in a few months.

I guess I'm looking for some advice from people who are clued up on short LP. Smile

mascaraisamust · 11/09/2015 20:00

Shary I have no idea! I'm hoping for the progesterone issue. Who knows....

I'm hoping for a bfp before November. Got a big, abroad family wedding August which I start paying for soon Confused I know whats going to happen!

Fingers crossed Sunshine, my temp dropping was the first sign that it wasn't my month so everything crossed that it stays up for you and you get your BFP :)
