Short Luteal Phase

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

Sorry mascara love, but "grasping on to data and statistics when we're not getting the result you want" sounds hella patronising to me!

Knowledge is power and there may (or may not!) be a reason you're not getting the result you want. She's making it seem like you're throwing your toys out of the pram (excuse the pun).

I think chilling out is good advice but if you're still going for your private appointment, you may find an entirely different approach I.e let's grab the bull by the horns and get the result you want!

Sanch1 · 01/10/2015 09:31

Glad you're feeling more positive mascara, you've actually made me think a bit too! I've only been off the pill 7 months, I think I just need to accept that it may take a year to get back to normal. I'm not sure whether to keep tempting or not, have had temp drops since by positive OPK, and it's just stressing me out! It's not like the doctor won't do 21 day bloods if I get to a year anyway, so what does it matter if I temp until then or not?! Might stick with the opks so I know the probable right time to DTD, not expect a bfp and if I do get one it'll be a bonus. I don't know, feels like going round in circles!!

The gp gave me a reality check and she also had a story to tell of her own personal journey so knew exactly how I was feeling. She said that if I'm sitting here in 6 months time without being pregnant then she will react but being 28 and getting a BFP once there's nothing really she can do but reassured me next time I do get a bfp it wouldn't mean I would mc.

I voiced all my concerns about progesterone but she said that we grasp on statistics, data and research when we are not getting the result we want and she told me to chill out (DH and I had a very similar converasation last night). She told me to book holidays and go have fun and it will happen. Maybe not today, next week or next month but it will.

I said I was most worried about getting another bfp and not being able to sustain it but she said the second time would likely to be a more postive outcome.

Anyhow, left feeling more positive in a way.

Got my private consultation next week and then the gynae nurse clinic the week after.

Then I'm done investigating and wondering why and if another 6 months passes I'll do what she says but for now I'll enjoy what I have and anything else is a bonus Smile

Mrs I'm suprised I've got a smily tbh. Been consistent with dtd but stopped temping and only taking folic x

Yay for your solid smiley mascara - I ovulate about 36 hours after mine so dtd on that day is essential!

My pessaries are called cyclogest if you need to know the brand name.

sunshinegirl12 · 30/09/2015 17:29

Sanch I know what you mean about not being a DTD every other day couple, we aren't either and I find I look forward to the nights we can just go to bed and sleep (not that i'd ever tell DH that, he thinks its great!) and although we don't need to DTD every other day as I know when I ovulate, I suppose it just makes me feel like I'm doing something.

Mascara, how did you get on at the Drs? x

mascaraisamust · 30/09/2015 16:23

My minds gone blank, what am I asking?! Hate that, and when you leave you wish you'd asked x, y and z!!

Sanch, get back to your gp and demand day 21 bloods if you want them. If they won't do them find one that will. Don't lose hope, it will happen. Chin up dear!! I'll let you know how this nhs gp appintment goes, with the same doctor I saw when I got my bfp Sad

Oh Mrs congrats!!!

So so happy for you!

Oh Sanch don't loose heart. Keep temping though as I think if it does get to the stage where you do need GP help they can sometimes ask you to temp for three months to make sure your ovulating (seems silly but sure I read that online somewhere).

Sanch1 · 30/09/2015 11:37

Yeah we arent really a DTD every other day couple, were happy with once a week in normal circumstances!! I think I'll carry on but take the OPK with a pinch of salt and not get my hopes up each month.

Interesting anacdote for you, its really hard to take your temp orally when you have a really blocked up nose!!!

sunshinegirl12 · 30/09/2015 10:45

Ah Sanch, don't cry, though I know how you feel, its all so frustrating when we are all trying so hard but not getting any results. I would carry on with the temping so you have something to show at the doctors, but maybe not bother with the OPKs and just try to DTD every other day, just incase. x

Sanch1 · 30/09/2015 10:30

Thanks. Funnily enough my colleague just bought cake, and I have a cuppa too! Not so bad!

flymo79 · 30/09/2015 10:20

oh sanch, don't lose heart. I would say if you have an end in sight, ie at 12 months you want to see if there is a pattern, then do carry on temping. It's the opk-ing that really confuses, as the hormone will probably show whether you ovulate or not, and that can cause you to become unnecessarily hopeful.... have strength. here's some Cake and a Brew for you xxx

Sanch1 · 30/09/2015 09:46

I got a temp drop this morning so I dont hold out much hope that I've ovulated, coupled with last months 5 day luteal phase (after +ve OPK no temp to confirm ov), I just dont think I'm ovulating at the moment. I seriously hope its my body still settling down after the pill and it'll all straighten out soon. I dont know if its best to stop all the OPK's and temping for a while, or keep going and build up info for if I do need to go to the docs when it gets to 12 months? Sometimes I just want to cry!

flymo79 · 30/09/2015 09:26

sanch I was in the same position last month - dh with bad back and man flu! why do they have to ruin it for us at just the most important time??!
I'm now working out with the 12-36 hours thing we might not have dtd enough Sad, had a +ve opk on thursday, dtd on friday night... then didn't do it again (due to nasty thrushy feeling down below) so now I wait in a slightly dispondent fashion.... friggin hate this!

Sanch1 · 30/09/2015 09:25

Yay! So pleased for you!

flymo79 · 30/09/2015 09:22

wahey!!!! congrats mrs!!!
I take all the credit, naturally! GrinGrinGrin

Vvvvvv early days but I'm so happy SmileSmile

sunshinegirl12 · 30/09/2015 08:26

Ah its great news, esp first month with the progesterone x

mrsmugoo · 30/09/2015 08:18

Thanks. Still in shock tbh. The line got a lot darker btw, that pic is literally from right after I did it.
Still spotting a tiny bit but I have the progesterone for 3 months so here's hoping!

sunshinegirl12 · 30/09/2015 06:42

Huge congratulations mrs x

mrsmugoo · 30/09/2015 05:12
