Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

Ah wow, congrats SanchSmile just goes to show we never know when it'll happen.

Sunshine, my temp has shot back up this morning. I think its still likely its just an estrogen surge, from what I saw yesterday a couple of people had previously posted charts with 2 low temps which then went back up. Sorry for the personal question, but have you also noticed more CM? I read this is also a sign of secondary estrogen surge, and I had noticed it as I never usually get any after ov. X

mrsmugoo · 08/10/2015 08:17

Ooooh a feint line is still a line! Can you get a FRER? I've found those are the best tests for giving a clear result. Or a clearblue digi?
Congrats!!

Sanch1 · 08/10/2015 08:14

Morning ladies.

Cant believe I'm posting this, but what do you make of these?

I tested last night as I felt sick all day yesterday and then I ate a bag of galalxy minstrels last night and they tasted odd, same as when I was pregnant with DD.

I can't quite believe what I think I'm seeing, FF says I havent ovulated!!

I'll be showing by 20 weeks, I showed at 16 last time. If all goes well it'll be parents, siblings and one couple who are our best friends after the 7 week scan and everyone else at 12 weeks.

Sunshinegirl2015 · 08/10/2015 06:21

Oh that's a good idea with scan. I know what you mean. I wouldn't want to tell anyone until after 20week scan but DH said he'd want to tell people the second we found out so that if something did happen I'd have a support network.

Sunshine did your temp go up? Mines dropped again this time below my cover line to 36.01C Confused

mrsmugoo · 07/10/2015 21:45

I'm having an early reassurance scan in a couple of weeks when I'm 7 weeks when I'll hopefully see a heartbeat. Risk of mc goes down to about 5% by that stage so I will feel slightly more relaxed.
We still haven't told anyone in real life. I want to wait until after the early scan to even tell our parents & siblings. If it's not a sticky one then I think I would want to keep it to myself anyway.

mrsmugoo · 07/10/2015 21:42

I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was 13 weeks last time!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 07/10/2015 21:30

Mascara so happy the doctor seemed to be a good trip! Sounds like he's hands on and good you don't have to pay for bloods. Wonder what your GP will say?!

Mrs someone I work with said they didn't get any symptoms until they were 10weeks!

mascaraisamust · 07/10/2015 21:18

Plenty of time for symptoms then Smile

Really early days, tomorrow I'll be 5 weeks.

mascaraisamust · 07/10/2015 20:57

How far gone are you now? It's early days yet x

Yes it's been a week since my BFP and I don't feel any different!

I will probably regret saying this but I wish the nausea or something would start so I know somethings happening!

mascaraisamust · 07/10/2015 19:52

Oh I am so hoping too! Hope you're getting on ok?

Sunshine you have committed to the cause again, maybe this will be your lucky month. You've certainly done enough. Fingers x

Yeah it makes sense with the clomid. I was prescribed 2 cycles of progesterone and clomid was mentioned as something to try next if progesterone by itself didn't do the trick.

I'm really rooting for you to get your BFP by Christmas!

mascaraisamust · 07/10/2015 19:40

Mrs, thanks for pushing it. It's the best £200 I've spent so far and I'm so pleased he is advising the bloods/SA through our Gps so we aren't having to pay. X

OP posts:
mascaraisamust · 07/10/2015 19:37

He said it's not always the case that progesterone will give you a bfp, it depends on what is causing the low progesterone and he says sometimes a stronger egg leads to stronger progesterone naturally as a result of it.

However, he said he will do both, provide Clomid prior to ovulation to stimulate the egg and then progesterone to support. Startinf on a low dose of clomid and see how we get on.

If I haven't got a bfp this month I want AF to turn up so we can get a wriggle on with getting the next cycle out of the way so we can get started! Probably looking like end of Nov, early December x

mrsmugoo · 07/10/2015 19:35

Is the clomid to bring your ovulation forward?

mrsmugoo · 07/10/2015 19:34

I'm so happy for you mascara - isn't the difference between private and NHS so enormous!!!

I know not everyone has the money but it's not that much ifyou just need a consultation, scan, bloods and a prescription - it's basically the same as a nice holiday or something and you can't put a price on a longed for baby. It's the best money I've ever spent.

The NHS is just so overstretched and if I were to be really sick then I would want whatever treatment I needed.

sunshinegirl12 · 07/10/2015 19:11

Ah Mascara, that is great news, such a relief to hear that paying for private is worth it, it sounds like you will have your BFP in no time. What is he prescribing Clomid for?

Having read this, I think we will give it until after xmas and then if still no BFP will go private straight away x

mascaraisamust · 07/10/2015 18:53

Sunshine you've been hard it!

The consulatation was great. mrs you were right, a totally different experience!

So I told them about my day 21 pg level being 1, spotting when I got my bfp, luteal phase was 8 days approx. and the nhs gp just telling me to relax and refusing to do any more bloods. I also argued my case for progesterone and the trials I'd looked at.

He said he was impressed by my knowledge and that he had to check my notes to see I wasn't a doctor! I said I've done a lot of reading around and he agreed I had self diagnosed and hit the nail on the head and that waiting any longer makes no any sense.

So he has written to my gp suggesting that I now have full bloods done to just check prolactin and other things whilst I'm there. DH is also having a SA on the NHS.

He wants me to wait one cycle and then he wants to start me on clomid and progesterone once I have ovualted.

He also said if I get my BFP this month he would happily prescribe progesterone Smile

So relieved. And he said you have a luteal phase defect Smile one of the easiest things to fix! I asked about B complex, vitamin C etc and he said they do work for some people but it's short term.

DH actually ate his words and we have both left feeling so much better.

Really hope they don't fob you off Mascara, fingers crossed for you.

My coverline is at 36.4C and my temp today was 36.35 so my temps are a bit higher than yours usually. Your chart looks good, well done with all the BDing x

mascaraisamust · 07/10/2015 16:41

Fingers crossed for you sunshines! We should all best testing very near this month, Im 7dpo so im not too far ahead.

Waiting for my appointment now, feel nervous! My DH is convinced they'll take my money and fob me off with it's normal. I'll let you know!

Here's a picture of my chart this cycle. The # in notes is when I had my ultrasound scan (on the second day of AF Blush )

Not usually on that light which is why I took a second pregnancy test as my doctor said just in case I was pregnant but nope. BFN.

Cover line is 36.06C and temp today dropped to that temperature.

How far below the cover line did yours drop?

Mascara how was the appointment?

Sunshinegirl2015 · 07/10/2015 15:32

Also not Los!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 07/10/2015 15:32

So weird I Los had a temp dip today which is just on the cover line which looking back over my last two charts I didn't have that.

I also did a Google. From what I read it should go back up tomorrow and the second estrogen surge just confirms ovulation did take place so nothing to worry about.

Fingers crossed for us both - we could be testing on the same day!
