Hi all, just wanted to know the ages of everyone here trying for baby number 1. I've been told it's usually a lot of older mothers TTC, but I suppose that's usually not for their first baby.

I'm 21 by the way :) x x x

I'm 34 and my husband 39. So that item in the news last week recommending lads freeze their sperm before 25 was not helpful Angry

Like oysterbabe and Rememberallball we met later in life. We met 3 years ago and got married in April. I wish we had met years ago too. And enjoyed time together just Being, and not dating - moving in - planning Wedding - having baby, but I am so happy to have met the right one at last.

Novinophobia I was hoping for a spring baby too -early spring - unfortunately thanks to AF last week this is unlikely. Do you mind if I ask if there is any particular reason why Spring? And Sophie why Winter, out of interest?

Rememberallball · 06/07/2015 13:35

Hi Sophie, I'm on a rapid downward slope to 44 and ttc #1 am on cycle 11 and waiting for appointment at fertility clinic due to age, length of time trying and recurrent anovulatory cycles (2 of 3 recent cycles with very low blood results for progesterone at d21).

Like do many older women ttc #1 I was late in meeting DP and we've only been together 14 months but getting married in less than 8 weeks time. A bfp would be a huge weddibg present to DP and I!!

Nats1014 · 06/07/2015 12:27

I'm 22, had my first (unplanned, whoops) very young. It then took 3 years of TTC before I had my little girl last year!

Youth doesn't guarantee anything I'm afraid. Just don't put pressure on yourself. Try and enjoy the fun part of TTC Wink

VioletIbiza88 · 01/07/2015 16:11

MrsPCR I'm 27 and on cycle 4 ttc number 1. I'm also CD14 today and I think I felt ov pain (stitch like pain in right side lasted a few minutes?) this morning. We will be POAS at the same time!! Also increasing the frequency of BD too, but trying to remember its only cycle 4 and not worry too much!!

Rachelc82 · 01/07/2015 14:19

I'm 33 TTC #1 cycle 13

sophiedeana990 · 30/06/2015 21:48

It's all a bit surreal to me as my Mum had a huge surprise pregnancy at 42, so my little brother is only 1 :)

Bit of a Jeremy Kyle situation here but who cares ;)

I am 28 and on cycle 4 ttc. Due to ov tomorrow on CD 14 and hoping for that temperature rise as been Dtd daily since CD6. Gradually extending BD period and intensity as clearly not hit previous months. Best catch soon else by Xmas I'll think it will be one permanent BD! Haha!

Long story short, DH and I have been on and off for since 10 years ago and then permanently on for 7 years married 3 so thinking we'll be ready for our first at 29.

PrtyPsn · 30/06/2015 21:37

There's no reason to wait if you're 100% sure and have the means. It was just never the right time for me before, but now it is I'm over bloody eager to get that BFP!!

sophiedeana990 · 30/06/2015 21:15

PrtyPsn, you're not sad at all! I wish I could wait until I'm 30+ to have a baby, but I've been unbearably broody since the age of 17, and also financially stable since then too, so putting this off any longer just won't do ;)

PrtyPsn · 30/06/2015 19:55

Sorry, not necessarily unprotected - more specifically I'd never had sex without a condom even though I've always been on the pill

PrtyPsn · 30/06/2015 19:53

I can totally relate - I'd never had unprotected sex until I started TTC at 30 (is that sad??) through the fear that I would get pregnant instantly (though it does only take once!)
Now 4th cycle in and wondering why it's taking so long!! I meticulously planned when we would start TTC as we have some things in the year I didn't wanna be pregnant for (heavy metal concert - preggo plus mosh pit wasn't ever gonna happen!) or be almost due to give birth around (friends wedding) I had a kind of paranoia that we would get caught the very first time so set a sensible start date to avoid this.
I think although it's a good thing that we are taught safe sex but maybe not have the fear of God put into us - it gives unrealistic expectations to some degree for when you are TTC

sophiedeana990 · 30/06/2015 17:17

Aww exciting times for you then Shannon :D I'm also very sorry for your losses. Feels so aggravating that I've always been mislead to believe 1 unprotected sex session whilst fertile = a baby. Funny how what scared me off sex in my early teens (not that I was interested in it anyway), is the exact opposite now lol x x

Im only 20 TTC my first after a MC 12 weeks ago. had a 2 week long period after MC which only ended a week ago so not sure what my luck will be this month, feel pretty stupid at times because i feel SURELY ill catch straight away, iv already been pregnant once (ifykwim). But probably me being stupid Blush been with my DP 4 years in August, very ready to start our family now Smile

Ponyodooley · 29/06/2015 23:10

I'm 30 and we're trying for #1 this week!!!

E11Chick · 29/06/2015 20:37

Hey I'm 27 and we have just started ttc #1 this month :-) oh is 30. We've been together for nearly 10 years and have decided it's the right time to start trying x

sophiedeana990 · 29/06/2015 18:09

I really wanted (ideally) a Winter baby, so if I conceived now I might be slightly disheartened! But of course not disappointed because after all, I'll take what I'm given.

OP posts:
Honey85 · 29/06/2015 17:59

sophie that's very true ... You are brought up thinking that if you have unprotected sex, 9 months later you'll pop a baby out!

I was 25 when I started trying for my first and caught a year later. Most people I know have taken anywhere between 6-24 Mths with their first and varying ages. Very normal not to catch straight off.

I recently fell preg 'accidentally' at the grand old age of 30 (me and dh literally had sex once around fertile time) ... But unfortunately miscarried at almost 12 weeks.

So you never can tell!

Stinkersmum · 29/06/2015 14:18

Yeah, Sophie, youth does not guarantee fertility or ease of conception.... Don't set yourself targets or put anything on hold whilst ttc.

Stinkersmum · 29/06/2015 14:14

Started ttc at 38. Got my bfp at 39 after 13 months of ttc. Turned 40 last month, dc1 due in October.

Mummyofonesofar · 29/06/2015 11:47

sophie I was 15 when I conceived and 16 when I gave birth. I mc in May sadly so trying again now. Good luck to you too.

novinophobia · 29/06/2015 11:37

I'm 31 and TTC #1. Exactly the same position as TriJo - second month off pill, first month of actively trying

Lots of friends and peers are having babies now, I don't know many people who had babies earlier than about 28/29

I totally agree with Dizzy - trying to set a target just puts too much pressure on you and your partner. I would love a spring baby (hence actively trying now), but there's no point getting stressed over it! I will be taking each month as it comes and trying not to worry too much if it's not happening. I think the average time to conceive is 6 months, some get upduffed much sooner and others take a lot longer, there is no way to predict how long it will take each couple

sophiedeana990 · 29/06/2015 11:24

Oh wow, so were you 16 or 17 when you conceived your first? Good luck hun x x x

Mummyofonesofar · 29/06/2015 10:41

Nearly 23 and ttc#2, #1 was unplanned and is now nearly 7!

sophiedeana990 · 29/06/2015 09:44

Yeah I really would've loved a bundle of joy in time for the Christmas season, I guess that's not to be anymore lol

OP posts:
DizzyNorthernBird · 29/06/2015 08:52

I'm 35 and on cycle 7 ttc! Never felt ready for a child until a year or so ago...I'm too selfish and my twenties and early thirties were too much fun!

sophie all I would say is don't set yourself a target as this might add to the stress of ttc....I thought I'd get pg first or second cycle and I'm here 7 months later without a whiff of a bfp...I desperately wanted a baby by Xmas and was gutted when the opportunity passed.

It's only when you start trying that you find out how difficult it actually is to get upduffed! But don't panic, because it could well happen for you quickly, just take each month as it comes and try not to put any pressure on yourself. You're young and you've got bags of time!
