Anyone want to join me?
It's finally occurred to me that after a year of ttc, and two early miscarriages that I need to stop wallowing and get back to the basics.
It's been a bloody awful year and I've ended up smoking, doing no exercise and rarely remembering to take frolic acid. Is it any wonder that most people have more sex in a week than DP and I have done in the last few months?

So having given up magic potions, ovulation sticks and all other things. This is what I plan to do:

Give up smoking- this is day one and I've had 3 rather than usual 20. (I know I know- I had a 'sod it all' cigarette after 2nd miscarriage and just carried on.)
Do some exercise : I used to run marathons but have done no exercise in about a year. From next week the swimming starts then onwards and upwards.
Eat: biscuits really aren't a good food source. I will eat 3 healthyish meals a day. Far better than my usual biscuits and a ready meal.
Take frolic acid: it's not hard, I carry the stuff in my bag. I will take it.
Work less hours: I will try not to work more than my hours and definitely try to actually live a life beyond work (this may take some getting used to but 60 hour weeks are helping no one).
Look lovely: I need a haircut, well to be honest all of me does. Being less hairy and not looking like I woke up under a hedge has to be a start.

Hopefully doing all this will improve my mood, health and fertility and DP may actually fancy dtd a bit more often.

Anyone else want to join me in sorting ourselves out(or is it just me that has fallen into sluggish mode?) and getting healthy for a bfp?
Or anyone wanting to give me regular kicks up the arse when I fall off the wagon?

Hello everyone. Hope you're doing ok. Welcome to the bus newbies Smile.

DizzyN - I know what you mean. It must be so obvious to my colleagues that I'm TTC as I'm not drinking/have been having decaf etc. Two girls in my team actually asked me if I was pregnant, which I laughed off but obviously hurt like hell. I've also been super careful with my diet, like not drinking, not eating sushi, not eating blue cheese etc. Now I have more of a 'fuck it' attitude. Too much of my life has been put on hold. So which half marathon are you doing? How's the training going. That's a great cover because you can say that you can't drink and need to watch your diet as you want to give the half marathon your best shot. I'm supposed to be doing the GNR in Sept but am out because I've damaged my foot. It's one thing after another!

WWFD - what are these magic pills you speak off? Can we all have some please? Grin. The defuzzing will almost certainly help you get a BFP.

Vincent - I totally think the rubbish foods can be forgiven. How did the HyCoSy go? Hope you're feeling ok.

Vap - I'm so sorry about AF. That's f*!&ing bitch. Tbh there's no way you can really motivate yourself after that; you definitely need some wallowing time. How are you feeling now? Sorry about DP - I guess people have different ways of coping with things. It doesn't help though.

Did you use the Dove moisturiser? If you haven't already, maybe exfoliate the day before you use it? I know it's not full on fake-tan, but it might help it last!

I can't TTC this cycle as I'm having a laparoscopy in a few weeks and can't be pregnant. It's actually quite nice have a month off from the TWW agony. In any event, I didn't ovulate until about CD20 (possibly later!) of a 27-28 day cycle. With a LP of only 7-8 days, the chances are it could never have been my month anyway. Hopefully I'll be allowed to start TTC again in Aug.

Citizen74 - what haircut did you decide to go for? I hope you feel better after having it! Did you manage to make plans to go out tonight? If so, have fun!

NewLeafExpat - Wow! Did Clomid + running really have that effect?! That's bad. Can you do more gentle exercise eg cycling, swimming etc (urrghh, I hate swimming...sorry DizzyN!).

Vincent - Hope you also enjoy the haircut and feel better for it! Are you doing BMF then? It looks tough, but really good fun!

vincentaroony · 03/07/2015 23:51

Yes vap I had the HyCoSy - everything crossed for improved fertility! We shall see... Thank you for your good luck wishes. Hope all goes well for you this month. It's always good to have a Dr appointment on the horizon. Hope you further your ttc journey. DH has a urologist appt this month, so maybe some answers for us too.

Citizen I'm having my hair done tomorrow too! Are you going for a new look? I don't think I am this time. I sort of want a bob so I can get rid of all my dry ends, but I've put on a bit of weight and not sure I have the bob cheekbones!

Hi newleaf and good luck with your Clomid. I'm also on the healthy eating drive. And off to military fitness next week...hoping it'll take my mind off ttc for a bit at least, even though it'll probably be horrific!

Beer festival for me tomorrow. Probably not recommended when ttc as well as trying to be fit and healthy Blush Have a lovely weekend all.

NewLeafExpat · 03/07/2015 12:57

Hi Ladies,

I managed a whole day without symptom spotting. Now there are no symptoms to spot. Oh well. This is my first Clomid cycle.

Otherwise yesterday I only managed 8500 steps so fell short of my target, today I have done all of 0 probably, so best I get some walking in later.

I did a face mask this morning so hopefully that will fix up/brighten up my difficult skin a bit..

How is everyone else getting on? Walking, hair appointments? Sounds all very positive ladies!!

Deffo on the sad wagon of being and feeling fat and flabby at the moment although I don't want to start running again while on Clomid, it really did bugger up my already troublesome cycles when I ran hard last year (and had a good body judging from holiday snaps, dammit!) So now I am going to (notice the phrase, not try to but actually going to!) now i am going to eat more healthy.

Cityzen74 · 02/07/2015 15:43

Then the next thing to do is to start dtd at totally the right times and to remember to take my folic acid every day!

Cityzen74 · 02/07/2015 15:43

Hi everyone

Booked a hair appointment for Saturday so feel good about that. Can't decide whether to be brave and go for a totally new style or whether to just do what I usually do and ask her to trim it and then straighten it!! Will have to get DH to take me out on Saturday night.

Next thing to do is start exercising more and cooking from scratch instead of relying on ready meals!

Good luck everyone!

Vap0 · 02/07/2015 15:01

P.S. Forgot to say
A friendly colleague gave me a bottle of dove moisturiser with self tan she has used and gave her a lovely glow, so now I have my mojo back I'll have a go with that tonight too Grin

Vap0 · 02/07/2015 14:59

Ooh vince you had a hycosy! Did they tell you about the improved fertility for 3 months after? Well, you will have if you were already ovulating. Good luck to you! My dr was really surprised to see me back again 3 months after as apparently most people get pregnant (I however hadn't been ovulating so didn't do much to boost anything for em) pod luck this month and next Flowers

wwfd what are your magic pills? Clomid? Good luck to you Wink

flat the plan sounded better than reality! AF started yesterday so had a total downer of a day and could t motivate myself to do anything. Today is a new day however after hours of crying and wallowing in my own self pity yesterday and I'm back on track! 10,000 is a dead cert today! Where are you up to in your cycle? Any testing with opk's or hpt's coming up? Oh and DP is pretty crap about things like this, his response "it will happen one day" brilliant! Thanks!

dizzy not been home since your asking me about teeth whitening so can't answer until Sunday when I finally get to go home! It's one from a dental assistant friend, she took a mould of my teeth and made me the retainer type things and gave me the gel to put in (she only charged me for the lab time) lucky me as it's usually about £500-700.

A reason to be happy this month is that I have my next Dr appointment on 20th. Where I really really hope he does something for me! Not sure what but just something! All fingers and toes crossed for that!

vincentaroony · 02/07/2015 13:15

Hiya, I went for HyCoSy this morning and everything looked good, hooray! I ate a load of rubbish yesterday because I was worried about it but now I'm back on the salad - food is so closely related to mood for me!

FlatWhite so true about not being arsed to diet because if you get pregnant it's all wasted effort! But over a year later in regretting that attitude!

Good luck everyone with your goals. Copying Glomerulus I'm off for a haircut this weekend. Think it will help with feeling a bit 'nicer'!

WhatWouldFlopDo · 02/07/2015 13:01

Ha ha, I didn't do the fake tan, I am so lazy! I have defuzzed though and I'm going out tonight so may partake in a gin or two. I've been to the fertility clinic and got some more magic pills so I'm all set for the next cycle if this one doesn't work.

DizzyNorthernBird · 01/07/2015 17:58

Tell me about it flatwhite, it must be so obvious to colleagues that I'm ttc, drinking decaf tea, avoiding sugar, I've been taking kale and quinoa salads to eat at work, almonds and Brazil nuts at my desk....I've been waiting for that same question myself! I manage to avoid it by talking loudly about planning my next half marathon and that margarita I drank last night!! I've tried to stop putting things on hold for ttc now in the hope that plans will invoke the law of sod

FlatWhiteToGo · 01/07/2015 10:55

Hi everyone Smile - I hope this sunshine is bringing you all some positivity!

Welcome to the newbies. The more the merrier!

WhataMuddle - How are you doing? You've been quiet these past few days. I hope you're ok and are starting to get on top of things. We're here if you need to chat/vent/seek motivation!

DizzyN - ha ha, you sound an awful lot like me. I often think "What's the point of losing weight and getting fit if I'm just about to gain weight being pregnant". Of course 7-8 months down the line that's still not happened, but I've gained a load of weight. What's worst about it all, is that people have started asking if I'm pregnant as I've gained so much weight when I was always super healthy/sporty. URGHHHH. It sounds like you've come up with a really good plan (eg the swimming and the getting on top of work stuff). You'll hopefully feel a bit better soon!

WWFD - how are you getting on? Did you successfully slap on the fake tan? Hope you're getting your Vit D, ha ha!

NewLeaf - Well done with the 12k steps. That's amazeballs! Are you managing to keep yourself distracted from symptom spotting?

Vap - Wow! You've come up with quite the plan. That's awesome! You have arranged so much, you will almost certainly start to feel a bit better soon. I'm sorry about the BFN though. That sucks. How has DP taken it?

Welcome Glomerulus! I am so sorry about the MC - how horrible for you. I think it's completely understandable how you'd turn to the Doritos Diet after going through that. It sounds like you're starting to turn things around though and you're making some really positive changes, so I hope you start to feel better soon.

Sending all my positive thoughts Smile x x x

Glomerulus · 01/07/2015 09:35

Can I sign in? Had my first BFP after 8 months TTC, which I lost at 12 weeks. Not a smoker but definitely on the fuckit Doritos and wine, along with zero exercise. Have made a small inroad through having a haircut last week but I really need a kick up the arse. Goals are:

  • go back to the gym tomorrow
  • get a wax (booked for Friday)
  • stop eating my own body weight in crisps
  • stop drinking/cut down massively

I've got a holiday coming up so the drinking one may be a little postponed, but the others all need to happen ASAP. I also obsessed a little around TTC the first time, but to be honest, can't work up much enthusiasm for charting/temping etc this time, which is probably a good thing.

Well done to all those upping their steps - 12k is great newleaf! I really need to dig out my fitbit...

DizzyNorthernBird · 01/07/2015 09:12

newleaf they sell them on Amazon, they are expensive so look out for sales, I got mine half price. They don't hurt unless you've got a bit of stubble there or a spot, in which case you get a slight sing. But on unblemished and freshly shaven skin it doesn't hurt at all. The hair grows back much finer or stops growing completely with regular use. I can happily leave my legs for a week now without shaving and it doesn't look horrendous! It's also worth mentioning it works best on white skin & brunette hair, the guidance says it's not as successful on people who are very fair or dark skinned (the device relies on finding the pigment in the hair root). But I can't recommend it enough!

vap what teeth whitening product do you use? I need to do mine and the kit I used to use doesn't seem to be available any more.

WhatWouldFlopDo · 01/07/2015 08:10

I was dizzy then I stopped doing it after my holidays so it grew back! No it doesn't hurt New

Vap0 · 01/07/2015 07:47

Nails painted
Hair cut booked for next Tuesday
10k steps fail - evening taken up entertaining at work and driving for 7 hrs. Just not enough time.
Will try again today!
Tested today bfn
Onwards and upwards to next month!
Teeth whitening to commence Sunday (when I get home)
Feeling motivated.

NewLeafExpat · 01/07/2015 06:28

This lumea sounds very good then, is it painful?i will do some research on it!

Yesterday I managed to walk 12k steps ,.. Although I did so a long long evening walk with DH to get that in!

Trying not to symptom spot in my TWW, rather trying to focus on being ME and being the good version of ME!

Off to wash and style hair then! And I'll be painting my nails tonight...

Have a great day ladies!

DizzyNorthernBird · 30/06/2015 23:38

Ah ok! I shall do mine in the next day or so then! Are you hairless yet then? I've got large areas on my legs where the hair doesn't grow any more! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on me armpits Sad

WhatWouldFlopDo · 30/06/2015 18:57

I used mine the week before I went away, bloody great not having to shave my legs every day, I don't think it's recommended the day before though.

DizzyNorthernBird · 30/06/2015 17:50

whatwould I've also got a Lumea, not used it in a while but was going to 'zap' my legs & bikini line ready for my holiday next week.....are you not supposed to use it before being in the sun or something?

WhatWouldFlopDo · 30/06/2015 16:52

Thanks for my kick flat I landed outside where I got some sun before vampire DD wanted to come in. Tonight after DD has gone to bed I'm going to shave the hairy bits, can't do the lumea because I plan on being in the sun tomorrow, and maybe put some fake tan on my legs because they never catch the sun. Vitamin D, that's goodfor TTC right?

DizzyNorthernBird · 30/06/2015 09:41

Oh....hair.....

I'm getting on a bit now and have very dark hair..... I need to make more of an effort to get my roots treated on time as white hairs poking through make me feel positively menopausal! Confused

DizzyNorthernBird · 30/06/2015 09:38

Can I join? I'm also trying to sort myself out! AF arrived at the weekend which means I'm starting afresh......again! Hopefully I can make the new leaf last a whole cycle this time!

I've been a bit shit this year since starting ttc. Last year I ran a marathon and a few half marathons and I was lovely and slim. This year I've been thinking 'I'll be preggo soon so what's the point?' So I got a bit lazy and I've put on 5lb. Ok, so it's not a massive amount but it's enough to make last years summer dresses feel tight and my belly is poking out like I'm already up the duff!

My plan is:

  • stop obsessing over ttc and put my efforts into getting back into shape & losing the belly. Start working on my 5k times and get down to my local park run more often.
  • I also want to get back into swimming... There's a lovely open air pool near where I work. Get up at 5am and go for a swim before heading to the office....a lovely relaxing start to the day Smile
  • stop eating gluten and stop eating refined sugar!! I DONT need them!!
  • get more organised at work.....stop procrastinating. If I'm on top of my work then there's no need for me to be lying awake at night worrying about getting a bollocking for falling behind.
  • stop arguing with DP about trivial things. Especially before ovulation!
  • get out and enjoy the sunshine as much as I can while its hear. I need the D vits!!

Ps- 10,000 steps sounds like a huge amount! Where do you ladies fine the time? How many miles is that a day?!

Cityzen74 · 30/06/2015 09:37

Hi everyone can I join? I am ttc #1 and really need to be more healthy and do more exercise. Have been ttc for about 18 months and getting a bit down about it all!

I really need a haircut too - I've not had mine done for nearly 2 years now and I'm getting irritated with myself and my hair for looking bad. I don't know why I don't just get on with booking myself an appointment.

Anyway, hopefully we can all encourage each other on here. Maybe I will get a fitbit too and see how many steps I take each day.

Fingers crossed for BFPs for us all soon.

NewLeafExpat · 30/06/2015 07:35

I love the positivity on here! Unfortunately I don't have a Fitbit but I use the steps counter on my iPhone. 10,000 steps is quite a big target I think, but I'm going to try hit it every day this week and see how I go from there.

Yesterday: I can't bloody find it now but I think about 8000 steps. Does anyone know how to view the yesterdays data? Maybe I neeeeed a Fitbit? Wink

FlatWhiteToGo · 29/06/2015 23:53

Couldn't guess it but I googled it. Great quote! What's the film like?

Oh no. Sorry about DP. I know this sounds awful but maybe it's a good thing? Hopefully this way he'll have a better understanding of everything you've been through. It goes without saying that I hope you get a BFP though (although I appreciate these are like gold dust!).

Oh no. Well a month off isn't bad and you can get back on it now! It's so so so hard when you have job restraints. I have a desk job, which would be fine, but I often work 18+ hour days so my ability to go to the gym after/before work is zero!!! Anyway, we can only do what we can do!

WWFD - I'm sending a (small) kick! Ha ha. Try not to beat yourself up - it sounds like you've been through a lot. I'm so sorry to hear about the MCs - it's totally understandable that you've hit rock bottom. Just remember that the only way from here is up Smile. Don't stress about all the things you think you're doing wrong. Maybe pick one thing for now and work on that? Like shaving your legs and getting a haircut. Maybe we should all have a communal leg shave and haircut day?!? Ha ha.
