love that - had a french friend with a daughter Manon- absolutely my fave's girls name but DH wouldn't even consider it.. we don't agree so both dds' names were the first on our individual top 20's that coincided Iyswim

My niece and son have very unusual names and when brothers wife and myself were pregnant the 2nd time my gran used to joke about what unusual names could be next.

I like names that are a bit unusual.

Liking Rhiannon for a girl and Finn or Harrison for a boy. Boys are much easier to choose

Largeginandtonic - can I not just call my kid that?! I was a bit worried when I saw your names, thought poor Wilbur (and I like that name, remember the very noble piglet in Charlotte's Web?) would be slagged at school for having a girl's middle name! An old boss had a son called Monty but he was Montifiere or something like that - they also had a Crosspatrick and a Lucretia!

I went to school with a lot of Chinese and as the kids themselves often got to choose their British names there were some absolute classics - Cinderella and Sunshine being two that spring to mind!

Also, an adoption I did once, the kids, 5 and 7 or something had bad names and the parents wanted to change them so they asked the little boy what he'd like his name to be, he said Buzz - so, so cute!

Yeah that's right Charlie Brooks daughter is called Kiki someone i know is called Devon Ellis.

Bloody hell has smooshed all my names up together, now they do look weird. Obviously there should be a boy column followed by a girl column!

Currently loving "Laurence", shortened to Laurie for a boy (loved Cider with Rosie). DH not keen. Got 8 months to work on him though

Girls are more tricky - he says he's sick of all these "old lady names". Shame, I love 'em - Lily, Ivy, Elsie etc.etc. Mind you, DD1 has an OLN, so if we had another they really would sound like a right old pair of biddies!!!

lg&t, I like Monty thats really nice. Arthur is quite cool. I love the really old names making a come back. How about Austin? It was my Grandfaters name, I like it but dh is not so keen.

Had major name discussion on the phone last night with Dh, he had many suggestions that will not be going on our list. A few have made it though, so this is our list so far bearing in mind we have another 24 weeks to decide 26 if going by my last prg or 13 if going by my 1st prg!

my ds and dd have unusual names....not sure if i want to share for fear of getting laughed at, and fear of everyone thinking they are SUCH fantastic names that you will all pinch them and call your kids by the same name and then they will no longer be unusual!!!!
anyway....ideas for no.3 if it ever happens include
serien (means twinkle or star or something else similar and cute in welsh!) for a girl or lloyd for a boy. we would prob change our minds if we ever do get pg, cos we are like that!

Hey LG&T. Oscar was on my boys list as it's actually Irish (not many people know that!). It's spelt Osgar in Irish mythology. I loved it and think it's a great strong name. DH HATEED it. Said it would make him think of Oscar the Grouch in Sesame St. I said "what about one of the most famous Irish writers?" and he goes, "Oh great, the most camp man in Western Europe." and pretty much said no way.

We've Conor for a boy and Aoife (Ee-fa) for a girl or maybe Cassidy - would be this baby's great-great-granny's maiden name. (No she's not still alive; great granny is 86.)
