I love Liberty, but then I like Libby too and the chances are it will be shortened to that.

Personally I think it is very important to like all shortened versions of any name you give a child. There is no point spending a loosing battle saying his name is Edward, not Eddie all the childs life. IYKWIM

I have dd (the only girl amongst 4 boys) who is desperate for this baby to be a girl, im going to find out because if its a boy its going to take the next 20 weeks to calm her down before the baby is born. If we leave it she may be so dissapointed when its born and i want it to be lovely for everyone in the family.

Im not fussed either way nor is Dh but all the kids want a sister, not sure how we will get her used to the idea though. I think it is a boy

We got Brodie from my mums friends surname too. MEntioned it as a joke and both of us loved it.

I was watching Maternity Ward on Living last night and I just couldn't believe that all the women knew what sex their babies were and reeled off their whole name too before the birth! I have always said I didn't want to know the sex of my child because it makes it even harder if something goes wrong and you have thought about the baby as someone with a name. Maybe I'm wrong. One woman had named her baby daughter before the birth then out came a boy! he he he!

Don't you find that now though. There are sooo many surnames used as First names. Edward, Jason, James, Carter, Jeffery, Cassey, they are all surnames of people I know yet used commonly as first names. In actuall fact I think that was where we got Harrison from. One of my casual employees name was Chris Harrison. As we didn't even think about a boys name until he was born I really have no idea, it just sprung to mind when he was born. We had a middle name chosen but not a first.

Minor hijack alert... One mistake we made when naming DD was using our 2 favourite names for her first and middle name. Now we're wishing we had saved the middle name (Rose) in case we have another girl!

Well I know people will larf at the name I want if I have a boy, but I LOVE it and think it's quite retro and also its my dads name.
