I don't think young children should be given the label transgender just because they feel different, or like to play with different toys. Lots of children go through these phases and grow out of them, however if they are surrounded by adults constantly telling them that they are transgender, then it may well become a self fulfilling prophecy.

TwinkleStars15 · 12/04/2015 00:16

Thanks for making me feel better ibeka Flowers

I think children have enough to contend with in this day and age; I see children on a daily/weekly basis who have so much shit to deal with. Being called James when you're a girl, North West, Bear Blue, come on guys! Seriously?

woodpigeon123 · 12/04/2015 00:15

sparkly!! And tessie!!

So exciting! Thrilled to bits for you both xxxx

Nomio230 · 12/04/2015 00:15

5ml sounds pretty good, Your Majesty.

I asked DH the other day if he would do it in a pot, so I could see how much comes out. He told me at least 50ml every time because he is amazing. Hmm

No self esteem issues there then!

juneybean · 12/04/2015 00:14

ibeka I can add you tomorrow (have hopped into bed)

5 ml Envy

Lots of 'tonights' in that last post. Soz.

purdiepie · 12/04/2015 00:04

Transgender hadn't been invented when I was a tot. It was called 'being a tomboy' and required very little surgery. I don't know whether to love or hate Louis Thorax. He just seems so damned bewildered all the time, not to mention condescending.

DizzyN I love reading your posts and wish they were more frequent. If I run three times a week will I lose belly fat?

I hope my dad has remembered the 'unusual' plant sale tomorrow. It's his last night with gold-digging gypsy scrote tonight so no doubt he's skint Hmm

5ml of spunk tonight. Just sayin'...

ibeka · 11/04/2015 23:56

Juney I can't seem to add myself to the stats. Should I be able to? Or can you add me? 32, no.1, cycle 3(ish), no idea about OTD.

MelonMelon · 11/04/2015 23:51

Ooooof I'm feeling fuzzy after sharing a bottle of vino with DH. Great prep for my first ever run. To those that asked yes I'm doing the couch to 5k and no DH doesn't have a fracture just knackered foot, knee and thigh from over use!

I am going to pound this AF out of me, by running and Errrm the other fing.

Welcome to the newbies Smile

ibeka · 11/04/2015 23:50

Welcome newbies!

Alpha - we are almost stat twins as I have been TTCing no. 1 since Christmas and was 31 when started - have turned 32 since. Best of luck to you.

Twinkle - I think your approach has been very restrained so far. I was OPKing, temping and analysing vag goo from the word go. I totally get what you mean about always having wanted it combined with always thinking somehow you won't. Glad it's not just my mad brain that thinks that way.

Louis Theroux sounds really interesting - have to have a look! I saw a vid going round on FB recently about a 10 year old transgender that made me blub my eyes out. High school is a cruel, cruel place (and that's just for the teachers ;-0) so I am glad some kids are overcoming these battles before they have to contend with that too.

sparkly, I've decided the best way to look at your situation is to think that spotting and cramping is how your body reacts to early pregnancy and the reason the last one didn't stick was nothing to do with these but because it was chromosomally abnormal. I know if and when I am in your situation I will be a gibbering wreck so appreciate this may not be very helpful but I really think this is very likely the case and that there is no reason beany will not stick this time round.

Pixa · 11/04/2015 23:48

In the UK there are an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 people who are gender non conforming yet less than 5000 have actually applied for a gender recognition certificate to change their legal gender â?? and only about 15,000 have sought clinical support. So the vast majority of trans people remain in secret or have found a way to deal with their gender issues without medical or surgical treatment.

Sad

I agree DizzyNorth, I understand why it needs to be able to be addressed at a young age but we really do need to define how young is too young. 6 years old and being away of transgender is scary.

The evidence is interesting. You hear of transgender adults saying that they knew at a young age that they were in the wrong body but I wonder how many young children will end up going through gender changes just because they like playing with toys that don't align with their genders stereotypes. Maybe we need a gender-friendly equivalent of the Gillick competency/Fraser guidelines?

DizzyNorthernBird · 11/04/2015 23:37

frog I watched the first half an hour of Louie Theroux, unfortunately it was a few hours before AF kicked in so I blubbed my eyes out! In some ways I think it's great that these issues are addressed while the child is young, so the can come to terms with their new identity before puberty and the traumas of high school kick in. On the other hand I found it so upsetting that rather than being children and just doing things kids should be doing, they're discussing hormone therapy. its great they and their family have the opportunity to do what's right for them though. Although it did freak me out hearing a six year old using the word transgender Shock

Nomio230 · 11/04/2015 23:36

Nicholas Cage called his child Kal-El-Superman's real name. Hmm

Yokyil · 11/04/2015 23:32

Jonathan ross' kids too Shock Rolan Bolan - brilliant name!!!

Pixa · 11/04/2015 23:31

Or Marc Bolan's son, Rolan Bolan Grin

Pixa · 11/04/2015 23:29

dizzym hope you feel better soon! Flowers

Ahhh that's who chops is! Doh!

Nomio230 · 11/04/2015 23:24

I think it is so dumb, Twinkle! I know they are trying to be all original, but I don't see the point.

The worst celeb child's name has to be poor little North West. Seriously?! She is a weird looking child too.

Pixa · 11/04/2015 23:23

Twinkle it just reminds me of the friends episode where Rachel suggests the name James for her and Ross' child, but only if she is a girl. Grin

TwinkleStars15 · 11/04/2015 23:20

Thanks alpha only two more cycles and you can go back to that nice GP of yours Smile

What do people think of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively calling their daughter James? I can't quite get my head around it.......

Nomio230 · 11/04/2015 23:17

Awww Dizzy, that doesn't sound like much fun. Hope you feel better soon.

Chops, I really hope AF stays away, I so want you to get your BFP.

DizzyMerry · 11/04/2015 23:14

Welcome newbies. You will love it here Grin

Got back from the birthday an hour ago and DD fell asleep straightaway as past her bedtime. DH is now out with his mates and I'm in bed with a sodding cold. Feeling very sorry for myself and couldn't eat much either Sad

Pixa · 11/04/2015 23:11

I did frogs it raised some real interesting questions for me. I went on a Transgender Awareness course and it was fascinating. I didn't realise how much heart ache something as simple as changing rooms or toilets could cause.

I think it's such a grey aware with lots of stigma attached. I kind of wondered if parents just needed to allow their children to be gender non-conforming for a while before labelling them as transgender.

frogbubbles · 11/04/2015 23:07

Did anyone watch the Louis Theroux programme about transgender children? It was very interesting, I kind of understand having a family member who is transgender but MrF just does not get it.

frogbubbles · 11/04/2015 23:04
