Hi Everyone,

I am a new sign up to mumsnet. DH and I (yes I have started using the lingo) have decided to start trying next cycle round. I have been tracking my cycles for a year and the are pretty accurate i.e symptoms match etc. Looking to chat to others in the same boat! Ovulating in 3 weeks and very excited to begin the journey!!!
26 years old, living in Edinburgh, CD21 (Missed Aprils ovulation as I want a spring baby is that bad?) First time trying :)

rehomed I hope that my clear blue was truly the 55% accurate from 4 days before like it said. I'm still not willing to give up on this month yet! I'm loving the rebellion of using his favourite mug Wink. We could both test sunday if you're up for it?

bourbondreams · 21/04/2015 15:48

rehomed hello! lovely to meet you and thanks for replying :)

Yes I definitely agree, I think I will possibly use them at some point, I know friends who have used them and its really helped them when they had been trying a while and not getting anywhere. I think I can usually feel a twinge when ovulation happens. I didn't understand the pain I get when it happens until I mentioned it in one of my endometriosis discussions with the docs, and they said looking at the symptoms over my cycle that it tied in, so we will see over the first month or two if it works out, if not I will definitely be investing in some sticks. I think hubby didn't think we needed them cos we tend to dtd 2-3 times a week anyway at the moment, so wouldn't be increasing it too much, I was worried about pain, as dtd can be quite painful for me, but I am hoping we will be OK and able to deal with it, I do currently but who knows after a few weeks without the usual methods for protection. We shall see.
hahah! I would have loved to see his face when he realised you'd used his mug! i think I will have to find a ramekin or something to use for testing, cos I can be rubbish with trying to pee on the stick - how is it so difficult? I did a couple of tests before AF came for the first time since stopping my pill cos I was unsure after it had been so long...
silly question but is there anything you should do after dtd to help? I have no idea on these things...

rehomedcitygirl · 21/04/2015 15:19

bourbon I think that if you don't feel ovulation or have particularly regular cycles, then the ovulation tests can be very useful. I used them out of interest this month and found that they confirmed what I thought, and will use for another two months (if I'm not up-duffed by then!). Its also quite nice to be able to "target" dtd...I'd be exhausted if we were doing it every other day for a whole month!! DH was actually quite interested in them - men + science thing. Although I did pee in his favourite mug out of pure badness. I've since washed the mug and moved on to a ramekin!!

rehomedcitygirl · 21/04/2015 15:05

oooh just checked the clear blue site and the digital test is accurate from about 4 days before AF is due. So will see who wants to test first and will join them for my first pissy party!

bourbondreams · 21/04/2015 15:04

Can I join in? :) I'm a newbie here...

Me and hubby have been married 18 months, together for almost 11.5years. We are both 30 - turning 31 over the summer.

I came off the pill in January and it took a while for AF to return, but now its been and gone and we have decided to get TTC. So this is our first month of trying. Whilst friends know we are thinking about starting a family this year, we haven't told anyone we have started trying. I don't want the added pressure as I have endometriosis so I am fully expecting to be in it for the long haul and not to have anything happen for a while, I think we have both accepted that if it happens that's wonderful and it not, well then its meant to be us.

I've discussed ovulation tests with DH, but he thinks we should just go for it and just DTD as much as we want and see what happens... as he wants us to be laid back about it, but I don't know if I should do them?

I'm currently CD6 and I must admit finding it all a bit scary and exciting at the same time. And the first time of DTD without any contraception was a bit of a "OMG we are actually doing this" moment...

Anyway its nice to know there is somewhere that I can come and chat so that I don't end up getting too much for the Hubby to deal with :)

rehomedcitygirl · 21/04/2015 15:02

ummmm think about 1st May?? That should be when AF is due though I don't really mind waiting a bit longer to do it at the same time as other people (unless AF comes first, which no doubt she will!!).

don't worry chelle its only the first month! make sure you treat yourself!

chelle792 · 21/04/2015 10:52

rehomed when are you testing?

I must admit, I'm gutted (even though it's early and I know it probably would have come up negative)

As soon as AF arrives I'm going to have a super hot bath and a large glass of wine!

rehomedcitygirl · 21/04/2015 10:06

chelle - its fine to be excited!! I'm gonna hold out til elles and sponge do theirs (sounds like we are due to test at similar times) - Heard the term "pissy party" on another thread and liked it!!!

In complete denial now that it could have worked...

Itwillhappen - wise words from your doctor. Am going to be as relaxed as possible about this whole thing and try to focus on the nice things that I can do each month wine and eating non-pasteurised cheese if it doesn't work straight away.

We have been on the "conception support" pills. Just to make sure I'm getting folic acid and I think the man ones have zinc?

Itwillhappenforus · 21/04/2015 07:04

Haha Chelle my husband would have done the same thing!! I think everyone has their journey and everyone will have a coping mechanism do whatever is normal for you....is normal for you.

wishiwas I think that's what we'll do too in terms of around ovulation, which I'm sure husband will be ecstatic about lol!

chelle792 · 21/04/2015 06:37

wish this may be tmi but I've always wondered if any of it even stays in too! Swimming the wrong way Grin

I did a cheeky test this morning. I had to!!! Wink spent a significant amount of time discussing my boobs with OH last night. They seem harder and heavier. OH was more than happy to cop a feel to cast his expert opinion. They've been sore for a while now and I'm having weird cramps. They just don't feel normal for my body, different somehow. Anyway.... It was negative. I WILL be testing again Saturday.

Do you ladies think I need a reality check? I'm trying not to become a psycho Wink

I'm so glad your mum is feeling better xx

wishiwaspregnant · 20/04/2015 22:35

itwillhappenforus I've been told every other day will suffice! The sperm survive around 48 hours (the girl ones last longer! Yay us!!!) however I must admit around ovulation we dtd everyday! Trying not to get up and walk around after as gravity is not in our favour! Feels like there are a lot of fallen soldiers! I'm on CD1 today after AF was late by 3 days and got me all excited only for it to show up! Onto month 5 of trying!!! Geeze! Taking too long for somebody who wants everything 'yesterday'

Itwillhappenforus · 20/04/2015 22:35

chip I thought so, there's just so much information and opinions out there!! Information overload!

To be honest I felt at ease after speaking with my doctor of our plans to start trying. His words were very calming - "your body is designed to do this so just trust it."

I think for those of us that ate starting this journey what the doctor said gave me some perspective.

Fingers crossed ladies!! Smile

Chip86 · 20/04/2015 21:14

chelle if I don't fall this month I will get DH on the zinc, I did not know about that so thank you
itwillhappen sperm can live 3-6 days depending on quality so every 2-3 days is fine
TMI alert -orgasams help the sperm travel up to the egg so make sure your enjoying yourselves Wink
remember hope your poor mum gets better soon.
I am rolling around in pain like last time the egg seems to burst cysts as it goes down the tube. After all this pain I so better be pregnant!
I test first Saturday in May it's a long way a way.

Rememberallball · 20/04/2015 19:41

Thanks for the good wishes. DM looks so much better today - though has scepticaemia and pneumonia so at least explains why she got so ill so quickly (less than 10 hours from well ro really poorly)!!

Few more days in hospital on iv treatment and maybe home towards weekend.

Itwillhappenforus · 20/04/2015 17:47

Hi Ladies,

New to this part of the internet and really encouraged / inspired with this thread! I am CD9 in our first cycle and am excited, nervous and all sorts of things. Would be great to have some regular interaction with some like minded ladies in the same situation.

Don't really want to bombard my husband with too much so early on as I know that this process may go on for a fair few months (fingers crossed it won't). So would be great to have some internet support!!

I do have a question - being at the end of AF and beginning the DTD stage at CD9, however how often should we DTD? Have read that it doesn't matter if you do it daily, however I went to the doctor last week for some family planning advice and he just said every other day is suffice as it may effect the quality of the sperm.

What is everyone doing / thinking about this?

Thanks in advance...x

chelle792 · 20/04/2015 07:27

remember I hope your mum is ok. chips I have the vitamins too and have OH taking zinc because apparently that helps?!

Been mega busy with friends this week and not looking forward to work today. I'm going to be dead on my feet!

I'm due AF on Saturday but my nipples are really sore! Ouch.... I never get sore nipples, just normally tender boobs the week leading up to AF. I'm hopeful but have tried to convince myself that I'm not because then hopefully I won't be too disappointed or disheartened (even though its the first month so I wouldn't expect it to happen that quickly)

Ilikesponge123 · 19/04/2015 22:50

Tell me about it rehomedcitygirl I would love to do that im on a TWW now so maybe I'll join you with a BFP?
My DD is teething and has just calmed down she's been screaming for a hour.
I would have work tommoro but I have 10 days AL from work

What is everyone else doing?

rehomedcitygirl · 19/04/2015 22:49

NB I also have no money to shop, so will probably be turning up at the office in my husband's t-shirts when the time comes, and just continue gazing longingly at cute little tight dresses!!!!

rehomedcitygirl · 19/04/2015 22:46

remember - I hope your mum is doing ok??

sponge painless!!!! I am incredibly impressed.

Guys, I have been completely self-indulgent and spent the evening looking at maternity clothes...obvs completely ridiculous but I do like shopping!! I guess this is my first TWW (two week wait).

ahhhh don't want to go to work tomorrow..sunday night blues setting in!

Chip86 · 18/04/2015 22:54

Project shopping list sounds fine Wink
remember hope your mum is better soon

Ilikesponge123 · 18/04/2015 22:20

Strawb999 I love one born every minute.
I think it's why my first was painless because I worked myself up thinking it would be terrible and I never had any gas or anything just paracetamol Grin

Why is it so hard to concieve baby#2??!

Strawb9999 · 18/04/2015 21:20

Watching one born every minute "she was going through pregnancy tests like you wouldn't believe - thankfully you can find them so cheap these days otherwise she'd have spend half our mortgage on them"

I bet she was on mumsnet ????

Strawb9999 · 18/04/2015 20:20

Oh remember that's horrible news - as if you don't have enough going on! I hope your mum gets better.

I met with my friend and her 6 month old yesterday- as if I needed any more encouragement!

projectI'm using the fertility apps plus the clearblue ovulation kits. It makes me feel like I have more control over things as when I was putting dates into my app the time I thought I was fertile actually wasn't correct so we'd been upping the sex game but actually missing the days.

There's no proof in the pudding until I get that 'BFP' but it makes me sit a bit easier until then!

Also Maybe I'm being paranoid but whenever j take my pregnacare supplement with iron etc I get a really sore throat so haven't been great with them but making sure I'm eating shit loads of spinach!

Rememberallball · 18/04/2015 20:19

I found pee-ing in a cup and dippong an ops in it far easier than anything else. Am not great at looking what my cm does and, as my sleep patterns are erratic, bbt can be less accurate.

ProjectBaby · 18/04/2015 20:08

Great to see so many new people (like me!). I keep having to stop myself from starting baby-related conversations with the OH every 5 minutes so this thread is great. Chip86 - I'm currently stuffing myself and OH with every vitamin going and have just googled top 10 fertility foods while doing our sainsbury's online shop! Is that a step too far? Folic acid definitely covered. A lot of you are mentioning ovulation kits. Do you think they're useful? Do they offer anything that a simple calendar wouldn't? Just wondering before I stock up.
