Light periods after stopping pill

HRMC87 · 20/03/2015 12:02

I stopped taking my pill in December and TTC since. I have had really regular periods since but they are so light! The same every time, period pains start on the Sunday night and I don't get it til the Friday. Last for 2-3 days and I can get away with wearing only one pad everyday. Getting worried now, I know it takes time for them to get back to normal but I have had 4 and they were never like this before! Anyone had anything similar with success?

@Hope365 yes I temp and use advanced clear blue opk, so I know I definitely ovulated. I am that much of an expert now that I only temp when I get my flashing smiley to when I get a peak smiley and then a rise.....Then I stop as I know I've ovulated and I don't need to stress. I've attached my chart. I know most places would tell me to do a test , but I'm sure you know the feeling when you just know you aren't pregnant 🤣 so I'm not bothering. I'm hoping I will have some form of red bleed by tomorrow, otherwise this has been the lightest one I've ever had! I do have a dull ache down my right leg though 🙄 not sure what this is!

@JennaRMD fantastic news you are ovulating! So now you know that egg is there and ready to go! At least you can rule that out. Although I know what you mean about worrying about the next thing! I think like hope says the next steps are the day 5 tests, once they are done then it's onto your partner for a SA. One step at a time and we will all get there 😊

@Maisy24 that's weird about the really short bleed... Do you temp at all? That would give you a clue whether your cycle did finish or whether that was just spotting and the real period is still to come (or not!) If you're not sure maybe you should take a test - it could have been implantation bleeding, who knows! So good you have those appointments coming up, rooting for you to get some answers this month! (Also yes, if only it was like the sims 😂)

@JennaRMD great news about ovulation! I know you suspected but it's always good to have it confirmed - it's a very important part of the battle won 😊 If you're worried about the other stuff you could ask for those other basic tests like FSH and thyroid, might give you more peace of mind xxx

JennaRMD · 27/01/2020 14:14

So my bloods suggest I'm ovulating ... This is a good thing obviously but now I get the joy of overthinking something else 😂

Maisy24 · 27/01/2020 11:46

@JennaRMD it's so weird isn't it; I usually get one day of a proper bleed, but looks like I'm not even getting that this time 😫 I have this colposcopy on the 5th and then my first fertility appointment end of the month: so I will get you all updated on anything I find out. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will ask them xxx

JennaRMD · 27/01/2020 08:13

@Maisy24 yeah that defo would be easier. As for the spotting, that sounds like exactly what I get every month. 1 day of pinkish and 2 days of tiny bit or brown and that is it. Wouldn't even notice it if I wasn't looking for it.

Maisy24 · 27/01/2020 07:53

@Hope365 also it is odd you get the feeling so early in your lutual phase , sounds like something is out of sync with your hormones, this treatment should definitely help that! Roll on your next cycle xxxx

@JennaRMD I know exactly what you mean, I always think why can't it be like the Simms where a nice song comes on after dtd to let you know if you've conceived 🤣 xxxx

Maisy24 · 27/01/2020 07:50

@Hope365 @JennaRMD thanks both, really appreciate it. Well as always I'm totally confused with what is going on with my period. The pink has disappeared, and there's either nothing al all or the tiniest amount if brown, I'm now 13 dpo and the feeling has eased off. 😩 I'm really hoping that small amount of pink wasn't it this month! I'm now wondering if there's something wrong with me and that's what's stopping my periods. This scan can't come quick enough.

Hope365 · 26/01/2020 23:29

@Maisy24 I'm so sorry to hear that, it's really the last thing you needed 😔 Hopefully it won't be too serious and they'll be able to sort it quickly - abnormal cells are quite common I think. Good that they're referring you quickly though - when is your colposcopy? As @JennaRMD said, we are totally here for you ❤❤

The pre-period cramps are a bitch. I actually always start to get 'that feeling' really early, this month it was 5DPO, sometimes it's even throughout the whole luteal phase... it's not really painful, just uncomfortable, and always just makes me feel like I'm out - although as you said Jenna, there's always that 'stupid bit of hope' that means I'm still inevitably crushed every time AF starts... ugh it's all so tiring. I'm guessing another 3 days for me before CD1, and then it's treatment time 😬 Terrified of getting my hopes up... Let us know how your results go Jenna, and Maisy, thinking of you xxx

JennaRMD · 26/01/2020 20:31

Started the dreaded pre menstrual cramps today but no sign of my usual "spotting" just yet, if you can even call it that. It's such a head f**k every month, it's starting to get to me. The whole "am i? Am i not?" Or "maybe it's implantation cramps and not period pain", the whole thing of accepting you're not pregnant every month with the stupid bit of hope that resides in us all is what makes it so difficult. I'm due on Tues but I just know the way my body is feeling that it'll likely come tomorrow.
I feel like it would be easier if you didn't have to wait 2 weeks to find out, like if you could check the morning after DTD to see if it worked then you wouldn't build your hopes or expectations up for them to be crushed back down for yet another month.

@MrsKirsty I'm with you, some months I'm like "oh well never mind" this month I'm cheesed off to say the least. We're doing everything right, it's just so annoying trying and failing every month. So frustrating.

I need to phone docs for my results tomorrow re progesterone test. No doubt it'll be fine and will need to figure something else out to why it's not happening. Fml🤦
@Maisy24 I'm sorry about your smear results...it's shit and never ending. We're all here though so you're not alone promise 🤞.

@hope365 shit that you're getting your usual symptoms again this month but hopefully onwards and upwards once you start your new treatment plan!

Maisy24 · 25/01/2020 17:10

Further update to top off my great day, got a letter this morning with a referral to the hospital next week... to say my smear results have come back with abnormal cells 🙈 along with testing positive for HPV. Got to have an colposcopy.....When will all this end

niamhie95 · 25/01/2020 12:30

@maisy24 hopefully 🤞

Maisy24 · 25/01/2020 10:02

@Hope365 I know exactly how you are feeling, I'm 11 dpo and I usually have around 12-14 lutual phase, but I went toilet last night and usually pale pink when I wiped, same this morning along with the back ache and dreaded feeling. I'm the same as you I have my appointment in February but was really hoping we wouldn't need it, look like we will 😔. How are you lovely? I bet you can't wait to start the treatment now, I'm so excited for you!!

@MrsKirsty so sorry you have been dealing with a new cycle, I react the exact same as you, one month I'm okish and then the next month it puts me into a dark mood for days. Definitely think it's a good idea to say you've been trying for a year, get them tests done so you can rule a few things out. Keep us all updated how you get on.

@niamhie95 it sounds like your cycles could be starting to regulate, fingers crossed!

@JennaRMD at least you will have the results of one test, then book in for the others, just so you can rules things out.

I know how you feel about time, I'm always booking things in advance and thinking "well I probably won't be able to go by then" but nope I end up being able to attend everything! It's really really hard but I'm glad we all have each other to share with.

Best of luck girls and I'm going to drown my pre period cramp sorrows with lots of nice food on the sofa watching a romcom 😊

Hope365 · 24/01/2020 16:17

@JennaRMD totally know what you mean about wanting to forget about it all. This whole thing takes up so much headspace... Fingers crossed you get your results back soon and the doctors suggest a next step - you should definitely push for those other tests! Although to be honest you shouldn't even have to push - they're pretty standard tests to run for anyone who is having abnormal periods, it's just frustrating that doctors don't seem to recognise light periods as abnormal... 🙄

@MrsKirsty I'm sorry to hear you had to deal with the disappointment of another failed cycle... it never gets any easier does it. Just wondering - have you seen any difference in your cycles/periods since taking the thyroid medication? Really hope your appointment on Monday goes well and they get the ball rolling for a solution... Keep us posted!

I'm 7DPO and as usual getting mild cramps and backache like I do every month 😔 I'm sure it's part of the problem somehow - feels like my body starts preparing for AF far too early each time, even though I technically have a normal length luteal phase... Looking on the bright side and getting excited about starting treatments, probably in about a week (!!), though obviously I had secretly been hoping that we would be that couple that gets pregnant naturally just before starting 😂 The hope never does quite go away, even when it's failed so many times before...

Wishing everyone so much luck! Love being able to share with you ladies xxx

niamhie95 · 24/01/2020 14:52

@mrskirsty thanks. Hopefully it stays away then i can enjoy it lol 😂 been a long time lol

MrsKirsty · 23/01/2020 18:48

Hey everyone!

@Hope365 how exciting you'll be starting treatment soon, as daunting as injections must be, I'm so happy for you that you've got steps to take now! Getting back in control must feel wonderful. Really hoping you get your bfp soon 🍀!!! Any one else fantasize about what it will be like when you find out you're pregnant or just me lol 🙈

@JennaRMD Glad you've been to the doctor's, let us know what you find out about your progesterone. If you're not ovulating, the good news is there's lots they can do. If you are, its definitely worth another chat with them to see what else they can test for.

@niamhie95 at least you can feel better from some sexy time now haha 😂

As for me, I'm on CD4, when I started spotting on Saturday I cried on and off all day... Some months I'm fine others I just fall apart 😔 because of this, I'm going back to doctors. I have an appointment Monday morning where I'm going to say I've been trying a year (been 9 months now). Just want to feel like I'm doing something! We'll see.

Sending you all baby vibes, would love it if someone in this group got bfp, would give me life and hope again 🍀😊 Xx

JennaRMD · 22/01/2020 19:53

@Hope365 I got bloods takeb but the doctor had only ordered a progestogen test so the phlebotomist couldn't send it away for anything else. It'll likely come back fine and then I'll worry it's something else. It's never ending ha. Wish I could just forget about it x

Hope365 · 21/01/2020 23:54

Hi @JennaRMD, how did your blood test go today? Did you find out whether they will test for other things like thyroid, FSH etc? Xx

niamhie95 · 20/01/2020 10:46

@Hope365. Thanks, it has still stayed away hopefully 🤞

JennaRMD · 19/01/2020 19:16

I've been reading about hypomenorthea and it sounds exactly like what I have. Got docs on Tuesday to see if I'm ovulating and might get them to check other hormone levels just not sure what ones to ask them to test for lol. @hope365 excited for you to start, hopefully this month or next will be lucky for some 🍀

Hope365 · 19/01/2020 08:56

Hi ladies!

@Maisy24 great news you got confirmation that your appointment is fertility not gynae! I know what you mean about feeling like giving up, it's hard when it's month after month of negatives... But there's so much that science can do for us these days, and obviously it could still happen naturally too - I try to remind myself we've every reason to be hopeful!

@JennaRMD keep fighting those doctors telling you that it's normal - it's not, and they should give you all the basic blood tests without having to wait for the one year mark, because it's not all about TTC, also just your general health. Like @MrsKirsty mentioned, thyroid is an important one to test, and could maybe even be an easy fix - @mrskirsty I really hope it's the answer for you and you get that BFP soon!

Thanks for asking about my treatment 😊 I haven't actually started yet - have to wait for this cycle to finish first... Currently 2DPO, obviously hoping we will be that miracle couple who get pregnant naturally just before starting treatments (but not really believing it) 😂. So the countdown is on, 10 days to go and I can't bloody wait to get started! Never thought I'd be excited to inject myself but honestly I'm so excited to start doing something... Feels like I'm taking back control a little, though obviously I'm terrified of how I'll feel if it doesn't work 😬

@niamhie95 glad to hear things might be getting a bit more normal for you!

Sorry if I've missed anything - it's hard to keep on top of the messages! Keeping everything crossed for all of us - like @maisy said, pregnancy announcements in the real world are pretty hard to deal with, but I would be so so happy for any of you! Rooting for us all 🤞😊💕

niamhie95 · 17/01/2020 13:02

Hey all, just wanted to give you an update on my situation. When i got my period on the 23rd November. It lasted a few weeks and went away but then it has come back again and was quite heavy it went away again last week so hopefully it can stay away for a bit 🙈. Last night was two first time me and my partner were able to have sex in months sorry if that was tmi lol x

MrsKirsty · 15/01/2020 22:10

Yeah I really didn't want to be an 'old' mum but starting to feel like I might be!! Just hope we all get the chance to actually be one 🤍Xx

Can't believe 3 doctors have said that's normal, I've read so many stories of docs not listening to women and it makes me so mad!! I had two docs tell me my thyroid didn't matter and then a 3rd made it clear it was super important and wanted to actually help me. I think I was just lucky. Even though it meant I had something 'wrong' with me, I was so relieved that this might be what's going on with us... At least once you have bloods you'll know if it's your hormones etc and get a clearer picture. Something they can fix is easier to deal with than unexplained infertility which, if things don't change for us, is what I'm most scared of Xx

JennaRMD · 15/01/2020 21:45

@MrsKirsty yeah I know, I'm on my 8th cycle. I'm 28 and kind of just wanting to have kids before 30 ideally so just keep telling myself I have time to get stuff sorted if need be. Just wish I knew it would defo be ok and then I could chill and just wait it out but hey ho. My periods are the same heaviness every month (basically nothing) but I've spoke to 3 doctors and they all say because I'm regular and have all the correct symptoms then it all seems fine. Doesn't help tho unfortunately. Only facts will help, just hoping I don't have to rely on the facts tho and it'll just happen before the 1y mark.
No I've not been tested for anything as of yet, going to see how the bloods go abd then proceed from there xxx
Least you've had some insight to why things might have been a bit slow tho, always a step in the right direction xxx

MrsKirsty · 15/01/2020 21:23

@JennaRMD I completely agree, on my 9th cycle and people still tell me it will be fine... I always think how do you know? 😔 meanwhile I'm 32 this year and getting older!

Thank you so much for the good luck 🥰 where are you on your cycle?

Also... Just to let you all know, I found out Nov 18 I have underactive thyroid which was corrected with meds by Nov 19 and I've since found out it causes infertility (when not on meds) so I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed that being on the correct meds might be what we needed to succeed 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Have any of you had your thyroid/TSH tested? I don't have irregular or heavy periods which is the usual symptom but I found one study that mentions it can cause scanty (light) periods!! last few months each period has got a bit heavier (previously it was getting lighter and lighter every month) Xx

JennaRMD · 15/01/2020 20:22

@Maisy24 that's good news that it's at the fertility clinic, at least it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully you can get some info on why it's not happened yet. I just wish someone could tell me that it's just taking us a bit longer but we're both fine, if I knew that as fact I wouldn't be in any hurry, would just go with the flow and let it happen, it's just the thought of something being wrong that gets to me the most.

@sredwards it's so good to know that light periods don't always mean issues but I wouldn't be worried at all if I was pregnant after 4months... When it gets to 9months-18months it starts to play on your mind a bit more unfortunately 😣.

@MrsKirsty I tried to do the same over Xmas and New year and I'd been succeeding until last night!!! Good luck for this month! 🤞 For you hun ❤️
