Light periods after stopping pill

HRMC87 · 20/03/2015 12:02

I stopped taking my pill in December and TTC since. I have had really regular periods since but they are so light! The same every time, period pains start on the Sunday night and I don't get it til the Friday. Last for 2-3 days and I can get away with wearing only one pad everyday. Getting worried now, I know it takes time for them to get back to normal but I have had 4 and they were never like this before! Anyone had anything similar with success?

Let the TWW commence 😴

JennaRMD · 13/02/2020 23:52

@hope365 buzzing for you!!! Total win to know it's working at the very least. Also, don't worry about the baby making, I got so bored of tracking we decided to just DTD everyday for 6 days 😂. 4 down 2 to go !! 🤞 (P.s. I'm literally f**d 🤣!!!)

8LouiseCambs8 · 12/02/2020 22:52

@Hope365 that’s amazing news! I’m so happy for you 😀

Hope365 · 12/02/2020 18:26

Hi @RachD24, sorry to hear you're having issues too 🙁 It is still very early for you though, I think it's totally normal for things to take a few months after coming off the pill, so don't worry just yet! (easier said than done I know...) Hopefully your next period will be more normal 🤞

Good news for me today ladies! I'm CD13 and had a 3rd scan since starting the injections... the first 2 (last one was on Monday) didn't look good - my lining looked just as thin as on previous cycles - so I wasn't feeling very hopeful, but... it grew loads in the last 2 days!! It was 8.5 mm, which is well within normal range, and way thicker than it's ever been on previous tracked cycles! Feeling so so relieved that the drugs are working! Also I had two juicy follicles ready to pop, so we have great lining AND two chances 😬🤞🤞🤞 Triggering ovulation tonight, then baby making booked in for the next couple of days (so romantic 🙄), then onto progesterone and estrogen support for the luteal phase... excited! To be honest though, I'm so relieved to find out that my lining CAN grow, and responds to treatment, that this cycle is already a win for me, whatever the outcome.

Sending positive vibes to you all 🤗💕 @Maisy24 not long now till your appointment! Xxx

Hello,

Very sorry to jump in on this thread, but felt so reassured to see people in a similar situation. I'm a first time poster so all new to this!

Came off Microgynon (after 13 years, regularly asking doc if I needed a break for fertility reasons!) on 28th Dec. Had normal withdrawal bleed on 2nd Jan. No AF as yet, although I THOUGHT it was appearing on CD35, had a very small amount of bleeding, some red but mostly brown (sorry TMi!!) But no where near enough to fill a pad. Also had normal AF cramping at this time. Tiny bits of brown the 2 days following and nothing at all since. I'm on CD38 which I know is early days, but I just have a gut feeling that something is not right.

Not really sure what I wanted to achieve with this post, but felt the need to 'let it out' as I've no one else to talk to! x

Starstruck57xx · 08/02/2020 13:56

This is amazing, Thankyou so much for such a quick response! I really appreciate it. I’m very new to this and learning so much day by day so again Thankyou.

I will certainly be investing and looking into all of these to see what’s best for me.

Wishing you alll the best of luck too! I’ve been reading your threads!!!

So happy to be able to talk comfortably with everyone who understands! Thankyou again! X

Hi @Starstruck57xx, welcome 😊 I found temping helped me when I first started - you can get a basal temperature thermometer for fairly cheap and take your temp every morning as you wake up, will give you a good idea of when you ovulate, though only after it's happened so it's good to use ovulation predictor kits too. Clearblue digital OPKs are quite expensive but really helpful, and I found it was worth investing a bit at the beginning and then with time I got better at reading my body and didn't need them so much. I now rely mostly on when I have fertile cervical mucus to know I'm in my window - it's a very reliable sign for me, but I know everyone is different so see what works for you. Good luck! Xxx

Hope365 · 08/02/2020 13:02

Hi ladies, small update from me - scan yesterday was unfortunately not great... 8DPO, a week of injections, and lining was still only 4 mm 😕 it's still early and there's time for it to grow, but my ovaries seem to be responding well to the treatment so it looks like it is having an effect, just not on my lining...

In previous cycles it got to about 6mm by ovulation, which isn't great but apparently could be just enough for implantation, but then by 7DPO when implantation happens it was always back down to 5 mm. So hoping that if I can at least get to 6 mm again, then maybe the estrogen/progesterone supplementation I'm going to take during the luteal phase could make the difference 🤞🤞 Trying to remain hopeful but it's hard... Next scan Monday to see how things progress.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend xxx

Came of the pill December 5th - withdrawal bleed around the 18th. I’m now on my second period with a 26day cycle. They are rather light. Will fill a tampon but no tampon or pad really needed. TTC any advice on ovulation trackers ? All seems regular on the 26day cycle just very light periods. Struggling to figure out ovulation and fertile window. Thanks guys

8LouiseCambs8 · 06/02/2020 09:52

@Maisy24 sorry I missed the part about your scan tomorrow- good luck and I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

8LouiseCambs8 · 06/02/2020 09:49

@Maisy24 thank you Maisy! I’m so pleased your appointment went well and wishing you all the best for the appointment at the end of the month Smile

@Hope365 thank you! I’m super rooting for you too..

... sending lots of positive vibes to you all!

To answer both you questions- it was very hard to determine the cycle day, as due to the lack of periods, I haven’t really had any. I did try for a little while tracking temp and OPK but the didn’t really show anything useful. If judging by major cramps (but no bleeding) is anything to go by, it would have approximately day 8.. but I’m nowhere near getting anything resembling a proper or regular cycle! It was a trans-vaginal scan.

I haven’t got an appointment date yet b it the doctor thinks it should be within 2 months. I’m going through gynaecology rather than fertility, as we haven’t been TTC yet- wanted to wait for cycles/periods to settle down first (was disappointed by negative pregnancy tests initially, so decided to relax things until my body is back to normal- hopefully!)

Keep me updated Smile

Hope365 · 05/02/2020 23:03

@Maisy24 that's amazing news about your appointment today, I'm so relieved for you! You can now just relax and focus on your upcoming appointment - when is it again? Injections are going fine thanks, they've become quite routine actually, and so far still no side effects. First scan on Friday, hopefully we'll be able to start seeing an effect on lining but it might still be too early at 7DPO... Yes the plan is to inject until ovulation, then after I'll be taking progesterone and estrogen (bracing myself for the side effects there 😬). Just really really hoping my lining gets thicker and that if I don't get pregnant I at least have a normal period at the end of it 🤞🤞🤞

@8LouiseCambs8 yes welcome and sorry you're going through this too... I have all the same questions as Maisy! When was your scan done in your cycle, and when is your appointment? Thanks for all the tips on lining - I've tried a few of them but no luck for me so far. Hoping your spotting is the beginning of things getting back to normal for you 🤞 (oh and there really is no TMI here!)

Hope all you other ladies are doing ok too, I lose track of all the messages and where everyone is at but I'm rooting for you all xxx

Maisy24 · 05/02/2020 13:12

@Hope365 thanks hope! I've just got back from the smear referral and everything was ok thankfully, they said everything looks healthy and nothing to worry about. So waiting for the fertility appointment now at the end of the month. So glad to hear the injections are going well! Do you stop them after ovulation? Still no side effects? Xxxxx

@8LouiseCambs8 welcome! Sorry to hear you are also struggling with similar issues, this is a really good place to share/rant and feel like you can talk to people in the same situation, thanks for the advice on the lining. When you had the scan for the thin lining what kind of scan was it? I've had an internal pelvic ultrasound but it was on like day 7ish and they said my lining was fine, but I'm worrying that they can't say for sure it's fine as at that point as it wasn't in my Lutual phase. When was your scan done in your cycle? It is very good that you have seen some blood hopefully your body is getting back to normal! so you have been trying for around a year? When is your fertility appointment, I have mine at the end of the month so I will share what information I find out xxxxx

8LouiseCambs8 · 03/02/2020 20:54

Hi ladies

Hope you don’t mind me joining the thread! I’m new to mumsnet and signed up after reading this post with interest, as I’ve been sharing a similar story to many of you. Although it’s rubbish, to know at least I’m not alone in this made me feel less isolated.

I came off the pill at the start of last year (2019) and have had nothing so much as a cycle or period of any kind since then. I was originally on the combined pill, then progesterone only. I have been on it since 16, and am now in my 30s. I’m really glad I came off when I did as I knew things might take time but not this long!

After I came off the pill I had a couple of negative pregnancy tests which made me sad. Since then we have not been TTC- I wanted to at least wait to start cycling again, so as to try and avoid the inevitable disappointment.

I have had hormone tests that came back normal and a scan that showed a thin endometrial lining (4mm).

My doctor has referred me and I am currently waiting for an appointment to see a specialist.

In the meantime I thought I’d do some research and found a few tips online to help with improving endometrial thickness. I thought it couldn’t hurt so for the past couple of weeks I’ve tried:

Raspberry Leaf Tea
Pregnacare (before conception) which has L-arginine and Vit E supposed to be effective
Omega-3
Pomegranate juice
Getting good amounts of exercise

It could be a complete coincidence but a few days ago I had proper cramps and now am on the 4th day of seeing tiny bits of dark blood on the tissue paper after going to the loo (sorry if TMI!).

I know it’s not much but it’s a huge improvement from nothing at all for nearly a year!

I have seen some tips on here I will try too- I hear acupuncture is very good.

I wish all of you the very best and it’s lovely to meet you all ☺️

Hope365 · 03/02/2020 17:05

@Maisy24 sorry just realised I didn't reply to your last message! The main thing that changed between his first SA and the more recent one was that he is doing much less cycling - he was doing serious long distance cycling last year (for triathlon) and has since stopped, apart from the short cycle to work. But I've heard that that mostly affects count rather than morphology, so I'm not sure it has anything to do with it to be honest... I think SA is very variable, which is why they recommend doing two, so there may never have been a problem in the first place! Fingers crossed it's the same for your DH 🤞 Not long now till your appointment, thinking of you lots ❤

Injections are going well so far - it's a bit weird but not nearly as scary as it sounds... no side effects so far, just a slightly bruised belly! Xxx

Maisy24 · 31/01/2020 17:20

@JennaRMD so sorry to hear af arrived, but definitely enjoy yourself and have some well deserved wine!

@Hope365 arghhhh exciting! Keep us updated on how it's all going! And thanks for the update on morphology , yeah my DH got 1% but he has been doing all the things to try and improve it, so I'm hoping his will improve. What did your dh do differently? At least you can now be happy his swimmers are healthy and raring to go! Got everything crossed for you with this treatment xxxx

Hope365 · 31/01/2020 15:08

Oo also, @Maisy24 my OH got his full results back from the SA he did before Christmas, and morphology is now normal at 4%!! Just thought I would mention it as I seem to remember you saying your OH had low morphology like mine did - apparently it can improve with time! X

Hope365 · 31/01/2020 15:06

@JennaRMD I'm sorry about AF 😕 Mine came too... Here's to starting another month! 🥂
We've just got back from the clinic for baseline scan and injection lesson... it's official, treatment starts tonight! 💉😬 Excited and nervous all rolled into one...!

@MrsKirsty how did your appointment go on Monday? Xxx

JennaRMD · 30/01/2020 18:05

So AF showed up today in the form of a mid-light spot of discharge (sorry if tmi😂). Tbh, I'm just glad the "am I, am I not?" Feelings can be stopped this month. So bored of it now 😴... Pass the wine 🍷

Hope365 · 30/01/2020 10:34

@Maisy24 sounds like a good idea to stop all the extras and go to your appointment with a clean slate! I honestly don't know if they make much difference anyway (except for folic acid obviously). CD1 is just beginning for me (boo) so I've finally been able to make that call and get the ball rolling (yay!) - appointment tomorrow morning for baseline scan and injection lesson! 😬 I guess it has come around quickly, though feels like I've been waiting forever! Our very first appointment at the clinic was September last year, and we've had lots of tests, and one round of Femera in that time, so it has moved pretty fast - I'm keeping everything crossed that they are efficient for you too! And most importantly, hoping all will go well on the 5th. Do you know if you will get results on the day, or if they will need to send things off for testing again? Xxx

Maisy24 · 29/01/2020 13:24

@Hope365 still got some this morning but it's very little, So looks like it's a day and a bit this time. Still got the stomach ache though. It's like I run out of blood or something! No I stopped all vitamins once I got my appointment because I wanted to just go to the appointment not taking anything so if they do tests it will be without any supplements or anything. Ooo exciting! It seems the treatment plan has come around really quick for you, I'm hoping I get something like that and not on another waiting list . I just need to get the smear appointment on the 5th out the way first as I'm really worried something is wrong.

Xxxxxx

Hope365 · 28/01/2020 23:54

@Maisy24 well it's good you're having some normal flow at least! And bright red too - I never get that, it's always brown or dark red for me... Hoping it lasts a few days! (Such a strange thing to wish for you but you know what I mean 😂) Are you still taking the vitamin E? This is my second cycle on it and I've not noticed any differences - though still need to see what this next period is like to reach a proper verdict... I'm waiting for CD1 now - expecting it either tomorrow or Thursday. When it comes I have to call the clinic and they'll book me in for a baseline scan and an appointment with a nurse who'll show us how to do injections... then I think treatment will start around CD3. It's getting real 😬 xxx

Maisy24 · 28/01/2020 10:28

well I didn't need to temp as I woken up with the worst stomach ache, and I've got bright red medium flow blood, I'm actually happy for once!! Hoping it stays longer than a day. I do find it odd how I had that pale pink a couple of days ago thought; makes me wonder if that's what my period is trying to start as that would make it a normal length if it was from then!

When will you start treatment @Hope365 is is from cd1?

Xxxx

Hope365 · 27/01/2020 23:21

@Maisy24 great, that's exactly what I was thinking! I usually do the same as you - only temp around ovulation then stop, but I also take one more temp when I think my period has come to confirm it really was my period (since it's so light 🙄). Let us know how it goes tomorrow xxx

Maisy24 · 27/01/2020 18:44

@Hope365 I've just had a brainwave as you mentioned temping, I will do my temp in the morning and see if it has come down: that's a sure way of knowing! If it has come down then I know I've probably had my "period". Will keep you all posted , I swear our periods are harder to solve than the morse code xxxx
