Light periods after stopping pill

HRMC87 · 20/03/2015 12:02

I stopped taking my pill in December and TTC since. I have had really regular periods since but they are so light! The same every time, period pains start on the Sunday night and I don't get it til the Friday. Last for 2-3 days and I can get away with wearing only one pad everyday. Getting worried now, I know it takes time for them to get back to normal but I have had 4 and they were never like this before! Anyone had anything similar with success?

@hope365 I'm sorry to hear about your failed cycle. I just hate not knowing what the hell is going on with our bodies. Regular periods, although still light we all seem to have slight improvements each month, we dtd at the right times, several times and yet nothing? I wish someone could say "ah it's because of xyz" however despite any positive progression (like your lining getting thicker) it still isn't happening. What the hell!? It's all so confusing 🤦‍♀️. I'm completely in the same boat as you guys though although I think I may be getting closer to giving up on the idea of children all together.....

Hope365 · 11/04/2020 08:07

Hi ladies, difficult times all round it seems... 😔 @Maisy24 I'm so sorry to hear about the mess provera has made of your cycle - can't imagine how frustrating that must be... I feel angry at your clinic for you! I think provera is usually prescribed for people who have no periods, to kick-start their cycles - I guess your clinic put you in that category without really listening to you about the fact you do have regular cycles, just very light periods, which is a completely different problem. Unfortunately light periods don't seem to be that common of a problem so a lot of doctors (even fertility docs) seem to be a bit clueless - at least that's been my experience. Hopefully things will regulate back to normal for you over the next couple of months, and whenever things start up again you can explain your situation (again!) and push for a different treatment/ ask for a different doctor...?

@JennaRMD I'm sorry to hear you and your hubby are still having to go out to work, that must add a whole layer of stress to this already stressful situation... I totally get what you mean about wishing all pregnancies were put on hold for everyone. Surprise announcements from people who weren't even trying are the worst... I really struggle with pregnancy announcement generally, and it's definitely getting worse as time goes on.

On my side no good news either I'm afraid. Cycle 2 of treatments failed just like the first, and actually it felt worse because this time my period was no different at all - the first time it was still very light but at least it was bright red which never normally happens and felt like a step in the right direction. This second cycle, it was just as short and brown as usual, and it's made me doubt whether the treatment is working at all. I know the scans showed my lining was growing, but if that's really the case I just don't understand where it's all going! So anyway, now kind of onto cycle 3 of treatment though with only half of the usual meds, and back to not feeling very hopeful at all... The hardest is having to deal with everything being on hold, when in the back of my mind I've always counted on the fact we were getting closer to trying IVF - every failed cycle I would take some comfort in knowing at least there was an action plan going forward, and now that's been taken away from us. Really struggling with it all, and feeling even more sensitive to talk of pregnancies/babies/kids than I usually do. It's a good job I'm hiding away at home and not seeing anyone!

Sorry for the epic rant, sending love and hugs your way xxx

JennaRMD · 08/04/2020 19:27

I don't even know if I want to try just now because of how the world is tbh. We and hubby still working so wouldn't be able to go to work or anything if I was pregnant and need the money tbh. It's just so frustrating that people get pregnant so easily. It's like I'm happy for it to take a while but I just want everyone else to take a while too 😂. I'm so confused and stressed out about everything just now and I know in my head and heart it is not the good or right time to conceive but can't help hating everyone else who is so easily. Pissed off is an understatement.

Maisy24 · 08/04/2020 19:07

@JennaRMD hi Jenna , hope you are keeping safe. So sorry to hear you have had a surprise announcement from a friend, it really is horrible. I'm with you on feeling pissed off. I also don't know what cycle day I'm on, after finishing the 21 day course of Provera I had a tiny bit of spotting and that was it,I was expecting a more heavy bleed after being on it not an even lighter one! I wouldn't even call it a bleed at all it was like a light pink smudge on the tissue. And then nothing. I'm now on cd 39 (if I don't count the spotting as a new cycle) and also been getting flashing smileys for weeks, so I don't know if I've ovulated; I don't even know if I'm on the same cycle or a new one 🙈 I am SO mad at the fertility clinic for prescribing me the Provera, there was absolutely nothing wrong with my cycle, I was regular every 32ish days I'd come on, now I don't even know what cycle I'm on! My follow up appointment is August, i'm meant to do more bloods at the end of May and my partner a repeat SA ready for the follow up, I'm expecting that all to be pushed back though. I don't know how people get pregnant so easy 😢 sending lots of love, we just have to keep trying xxxxx

JennaRMD · 08/04/2020 13:23

How's everyone doing? AF has came and gone for another month and although I wasn't too bothered about it this month, I've just had a friend have a "surprise" pregnancy 🤦‍♀️ not even trying. Wtf is wrong with us? Not even like we can get tested now because of what's going on. Feel totally pissed off with the world and everyone in it today!

JennaRMD · 25/03/2020 09:01

Hi all. I have no idea what cycle day I'm on because my head has been firmly up my a**e for a week or so now. Pretty sure AF is due tomorrow or next day and only symptom I have are slightly tender breasts so who knows. Tbh, I don't think we are going to stop trying each month but I have to say this is the first month in a long time where I'm actually not overly concerned about not being pregnant. So much more scary things going on in the world right now and it is actually really dangerous for pregnant women, especially with me still having to work. Mixed emotions but just trying to push through x

Maisy24 · 25/03/2020 00:59

@Hope365 hey! No worries I've also been off radar and tbh my mind has been on the coronavirus stuff, it's mental, yes this is my second week wfh and it's driving me insane!

My cycle has been completely messed up with these tablets, I wish I'd never taken them! 😢 so I am currently on CD 24 and I still haven't ovulated. I got a flashing smiley yesterday and today so still waiting for the peak. The trouble is I am meant to take these tablets upto day 28 and then stop (which should induce a bleed) but then this means there won't be enough time after ovulation for it to even implant (and that's assuming I ovulate in the next 4 days). The annoying thing is, with this being the first month after hsg I don't want to miss the chance, as they say your chances increase m 😭 I am currently debating on whether to continue the Provera for 10 days after I ovulate so I don't bleed and then just not take these tablets again?!. What would you do? In terms of my treatment I was given 3 months worth of tablets so I don't actually have anything booked other than the next fertility appointment which is August. I was going to ring to see if I could bring it forward but fat chance of that now!

So sorry you have had things cancelled but great news about them letting you have the supplements still, that should help! So I'm assuming you have ovulated now and are in the lutual phase? I know exactly what you mean about this "baby boom" talk. we bloody wish!!! Also it's all so annoying I've had a lot of people say to me "at least you have peace and quiet with no kids" 😤😐 I know it's bad but I can't help worry this coronavirus could go on for a year and it's another year I'll be older 🙈 hope you are keeping well and isolated xxxxx

Hope365 · 24/03/2020 15:14

Hi ladies, sorry for going off radar for a while - the last couple of weeks have been a lot to take in... How are you all doing with confinement? Are you able to work from home? My work is lab-based so quite limited at home but trying to keep busy as best I can!

@Maisy24 where are you at in your treatment? Did you ovulate even with the provera? And how is the situation affecting your treatment? I'm guessing all future rounds are cancelled for now?

We had a phone appointment last week about everything - I'm 8DPO now so still keeping everything crossed for this medicated round, but the clinic understandably have put all treatments after this one on hold... Sadly that means no more lining stimulation (injections), but thankfully they are still letting me take progesterone and estrogen supplementation during my luteal phase and have prescribed me 4 months-worth! So hopefully my lining will still be getting a little boost, and if nothing else it means I get to feel normal rather than crampy during my luteal phase, as the drugs make a world of difference there. So trying to see the positives, though it's not always easy - our IVF which was scheduled for May and which we've been counting down to is obviously on hold, and I'm struggling with all the people complaining about being stuck at home with their kids! Also everyone saying there's going to be a baby boom in 9 months time - great for all those people who can get pregnant just because they're bored 🙄🙄 Anyway, rant over! I hope you are all coping ok and your families are healthy and safe, what strange times... xxx

Confused1984s · 22/03/2020 16:56

I took the pill for only three days.. couldn't hack the side effects..I was soo depressed.. started bleed 5days later it's dark and really heavy.. is that withdrawal bleed I'm I'm sooo confused... last period was 2 weeks earlier.

Maisy24 · 13/03/2020 16:13

@Hope365 hi, I've had it done. It was a lot more uncomfortable than I thought it would be, but the pain wasn't too bad. The doctor said everything looks healthy and no blockages. I asked about lining and she said she couldn't tell that, and it's an ultrasound that does that 🙄 I'm sure they could have and just didn't want to say. I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad there were no blockages as it's yet another test that's come back fine. I started the opks so just waiting for a smiley face now, I am really hoping Provera isn't going to mess around with my ovulation. Either way I'll be stopping my tablets on the 21st and hopefully get a longer bleed!

Great news on the lining! And it's good you know for sure you will ovulate. I've got a good feeling for you this month!!

And I know what you mean about the virus I was glad to get this test done today before they started cancelling everything!

Xxxx

Hope365 · 13/03/2020 14:33

@Maisy24 I'm the same cycle day as you! Had my second scan for this cycle today, lining is looking like it's thickening like last time on the meds which is good 😊 They've told me to trigger on Sunday (injection to induce ovulation), so it's looking like ovulation will be Monday. Then we have an appointment with the endocrinologist on Thursday, to plan for the next few cycles and discuss IVF - though at the moment I'm feeling like everything could be cancelled at any moment due to the virus 😷 Maisy massive good luck for today! Let us know how the HSG goes, hope the results are all good🤞 xxxxx

Maisy24 · 11/03/2020 12:33

@Hope365 I'm on CD 11 been on Provera for 3 days now, not really any side effects other then a few twinges below, but that could be me thinking about it. Omg thanks so much for the advice on asking about lining, I didn't even think to ask. I'm there on Friday for the HSG, I will let you know how I get on and I will definitely be asking about lining now as I'll be CD 13 by then.

How are you getting on? Have you ovulated yet? I'm going to start my clear blue opks tomorrow.

Xxxxx

Hope365 · 09/03/2020 20:54

@Maisy24 how are you getting on - have you started the provera? Any side effects? I totally get your frustration at not finding anyone who's been on this protocol... though I'm sure there are people out there, just hard to find amongst the thousands of forum posts! Will you be having scans with this cycle to see how it's affecting ovulation/lining? If not, you can always ask them to check when you have your HSG on Friday - I had mine done when I was CD12 and I asked them to check my lining whilst they were at it (they wouldn't have otherwise) and that's when they saw it was too thin and started to listen to my thin lining concerns! Hopefully you'll be able to see if the provera is doing something xxx

Maisy24 · 04/03/2020 20:34

@Hope365 even though it wasn't longer than 1.5 days that still sounds really positive in terms of everything else. Glad you are back ready to start your injections, hopefully the money will be worth every penny 😁

Yes; I'm glad I pushed for it now. Thanks for the advice that if you don't ask you don't get, you are so right!

So I'm on Cd4 now, the doctor told me to start the Provera when I've finished bleeding, which was CD 2 on Monday, however I want a 28 day cycle so I will be starting it on CD 7 , and the instructions are to take it for 21 days and then stop for 7( for a bleed). Then start again. The doctor never told me I can't conceive on it (or I would have said I'm not taking it there and then). But then again I didn't know what Provera was at the appointment until I got home and started googling, so I couldn't ask the right questions I should have . When I have googled it doesn't say it stops you conceiving it just says it can mess with ovulation. Honestly I have been thinking about not taking it this cycle at all and just seeing what the HSG does, but then I change my mind and think I'll take it as it might help 😩 why is it so complicated. It makes it worse because I can't find one person online that has been prescribed Provera like this for 21 days. Everyone seems to be on it for 10 days as a one off to induce a bleed to start clomid.

Hope you do well at doing your injections alone, I bet it will be fine xxxxx

Hope365 · 04/03/2020 12:08

Hi ladies, @Maisy24 @JennaRMD it is so weird how we were all so in sync this cycle! So after all the hope that the treatment brought me, my period was frustratingly still really short and light 😔 It was definitely different to usual - no cramps during TWW, but then reeeally bad cramps the day before AF and the first day of, just like I used to get when I was younger, then the period was much 'healthier' - lots of bright red, which I never normally get. But it was still over after a day and a half. I was really hoping it would be loads longer and heavier... Just had my first scan for cycle #2, all looked normal so starting injections again tonight (bye bye another £500)... Also my OH is away tonight so I have to give myself the injection for the first time 😬

@Maisy it sounds like you should be fine having the HSG on CD14, and good work convincing them to book you in this month 💪 When do you start Provera? And what's the protocol exactly? Will you still be TTC or does it prevent pregnancy?

Xxxx

Maisy24 · 02/03/2020 10:43

@Hope365 hope you had a lovely weekend with your sister and family and are back feeling positive about the next cycle!

@Hope365 @JennaRMD isn't it crazy how we are on the exact same cycles. It's very useful for us when sharing stuff though and supporting eachother through the hard bits!

So after the bit of red I seen on Friday morning, it then completely went away and I had the proper bleed yesterday, this morning though it is virtually gone, what I have noticed is mine is more like a clear /pinkish brown slime mucus (sorry for the details). It's really weird, I am still losing that this morning. Anyway I've rang the hospital again today and told them that today is CD 1(a bit of a fib as it was yesterday) and they said again they had nothing between CD 7-10, I explained the the man that I always ovulate late so I could do after cd10 and he's given me an appointment not this Friday but next, so the 13th (not sure Friday the 13th is a good idea 🤣) that will be CD 14 for me (he thinks CD 13) however I have literally never ovulated before CD 18 before, so I think this will be ok do you? I'm going to do clear blue advanced opks in the run up just to make sure. I'll be starting Provera in 5 days (not looking forward to it)

How are you two getting on? @Hope365 when do you start injections again?

Xxxxxxx

JennaRMD · 28/02/2020 21:39

@Hope365 I'm sorry 😣. There's literally nothing anyone can say that makes it feel better.
@Maisy24 I had a work toilet cry today also 😂 christ what we like eh!? AF decided to present her bitch of a self around 7pm tonight after giving me hellish cramps all day (which I somehow managed to turn into possible early pregnancy cramps 🤔... Wow. The hope is real 😂 alongside the struggle). I've also just noticed us 3 are basically in sync this month lol, how peculiar! I'm now on cycle day 1, still v.v. light, more watery brown though than just a tiny spot so maybe a step in the right direction? F**k knows though tbh 😂. I'm actually surprisingly happy to see it show up. I think the anticipation and guessing is actually worse than the disappointment. I'm just glad I know either way again now. Oh well! Roll on month #10 lol. Thinking of you all ❤️

Hope365 · 28/02/2020 17:44

@Maisy24 I've become a pro at toilet crying... it sucks having to go through this silent battle when no one else has any idea what we're going through. My OH (not married) is doing ok... I could see the hurt and disappointment in his eyes when we did the test, but overall he is much better at managing his emotions than I am. Pregnancy announcements are hard on both of us though - some of his friends are expecting their 3rd 🙄

So so rubbish about the clinic being fully booked for this month - the last thing you need is more waiting...If you do start proper CD1 a bit later I would def call back to see if they have any spare appointments on the new dates - no guarantee but if there's one thing I've learnt in this process so far it's that if you don't ask, you don't get!

You're right about the importance of taking time to do things that make us happy - we have a date night planned tonight, and we're spending the day with my sister and niece and nephew tomorrow (possibly the only 2 kids who don't trigger me because I love them so much!) Oh and we also got consolation takeaway last night after taking the test 😂 I hope you have lots of lovely plans for the weekend, here for support if you need - and same for all you lovely ladies xxx

Maisy24 · 28/02/2020 13:22

@Hope365 so sorry hope! I know how you are feeling; I literally just cried in the work toilets! What a rubbish day. I've pulled myself together now after my cry. Remember this has been a hugely positive cycle, you are early on in treatment and you just need to continue on, I really do think it's a matter of time now. I think this first one was always going to be the hardest also. Make sure you take some time this weekend to do something that makes you happy; even if it's nice food with the hubby. Hope your husband is ok too, my husband is struggled as well as I am. He struggles with the announcements more than me and has removed himself from all social media. Sending lots of love to you and we will be back fighting in the next few days

To Top this awful day off I'm so messed up with this HSG business, I started spotting bright red blood this morning, and have stomach ache so I was told to ring the hospital on the first day of my period to book in for the HSG. Well it's just not that simple as I never know when cd1 is! I thought I better ring the hospital anyway as I have seen red, the woman then said it has to be done on certain days (I think it was cd8-11) and that they have no appointments left on them days so I will have to wait until next month and try again 😑. since the call the red blood and spotting has completely gone now, so I don't even know if cd1 is today or it isn't 😩😣 I've not got any flow and when this has happened before it comes in a day or so. so do you think I should call back again when it arrives and say I got my cd1 wrong? Or wait until next cycle now? This is just hard work.

8LouiseCambs8 · 28/02/2020 12:37

@Hope365 I’m so sorry to hear that :( from your own words the improvement in the cycle itself is a huge step forward, and like you say it can take a while for people where everything is normal. It’s a rubbish day but far from the end of hope.

Sending lots of hugs and positive thoughts to all of you xxx

Hope365 · 28/02/2020 12:24

Hi all, well we did the test and it was stark negative... 😔 I'm not gonna lie, there were tears. But also I do know that the cycle was hugely positive, and that even completely healthy couples can take a few months to fall, so we just need to pick ourselves up and try again. So I've stopped all the hormones and now just waiting for AF to come (no idea how long that takes after stopping the drugs...). Hoping that this cycle will finish on a positive with my first normal AF since coming off the pill, but we will see... (so strange to be wishing for long and heavy periods). Of course a tiny stubborn part of me still hopes that it just won't come at all and I'm one of those freak cases where you don't get a positive test until after 14DPO 😂 Ridiculous how hard it is to let go of hope...

@Maisy24 I'm sorry 😔 it all sucks. And pregnancy announcements are the worst - I really struggle with them. But on the plus side you get to start treatment soon! I think we just have to see each day as a day closer to seeing that positive test, no matter how long away it might be - we're all working towards it and being proactive.

Sending big love to you all ❤ xxx

Maisy24 · 28/02/2020 12:17

@Klwb93 @JennaRMD @8LouiseCambs8 thanks so much girls, it really does help having the support. I've had a cry and I've pulled myself together, there is still hope like you say we are early on in treatment. Hope you are all doing ok too xxxxxx

Klwb93 · 28/02/2020 10:00

Oh no so sorry @Maisy24 it’s always hard when people announce a pregnancy, hope you are okay though and spending lots of love to you 💕 I was feeling okay yesterday then a family member has told me someone in our family is pregnant and I just wanted to cry.. I’ve still not come on either, no brown discharge anymore just a lot of clear discharge, I’m 5 days late now 😂 feeling very nauseous too, hope all you girls are doing okay xxx

JennaRMD · 28/02/2020 09:37

@Maisy24 aw hun 😣 I'm sorry. If it makes you feel any better, I've still not came on yet and have had all my af symptoms for 4 days now. It's actually torture! Just want it to show up so it can piss back off again 😂! I know, the dreaded baby announcements! My friends getting married in June and trying for kids straight away, I've just convinced myself she'll be pregnant before me so at least I'm not completely devastated when the inevitable happens. Beginning to think it's maybe just not meant to be 😣. Sending love and empathy ❤️

8LouiseCambs8 · 28/02/2020 09:19

@Maisy24 I’m so sorry Maisy that really sucks :( and then a pregnancy announcement as well!
From what you described in your previous posts I think there is still definite hope. The fertility doctor recommended 3 cycles of the provera to kick start everything and it’s not been that long. There was also the sperm re-check as well and they’re going to see you back again in a few months?
I think there is still definite hope as it’s so early trying the new plan x
