Light periods after stopping pill

HRMC87 · 20/03/2015 12:02

I stopped taking my pill in December and TTC since. I have had really regular periods since but they are so light! The same every time, period pains start on the Sunday night and I don't get it til the Friday. Last for 2-3 days and I can get away with wearing only one pad everyday. Getting worried now, I know it takes time for them to get back to normal but I have had 4 and they were never like this before! Anyone had anything similar with success?

Thank you @Maisy24 and @Hope365 I'm feeling positively crappy today

@Maisy24 not really. Although my husband did tell his one friend and his wife (who is my friend) that's okay but I didn't want people stopping their conversations when I walked in the room or talking behind our back. It's bad enough I don't refer invited to my friends baby's parties because I don't have children and wouldn't be interested, despite telling them I'd love to be invited and love to meet up with them and share their joy. I find out usually after, when a message is put on a WhatsApp group I'm on (instead of the 'mums' group I'm not supposed to know about). I am honestly fabulous at being happy for them and being sad inside. My in-law bought books in case we had children and she could read to them. They're beautiful. I do hope these don't come back out soon, or worse, be given away for her great grandchild.

@Hope365 thank you. I really hope it does soon too. 🙁

Hope365 · 18/11/2019 10:32

@Maisy24 it's interesting you spoke to someone who found that vitamin E helped! Think I will def try it next... L-arginine is a supplement that is also thought to increase blood flow and thicken lining - it was tested in the same study that tested vitamin E, and both treatments were found to be equally effective (as well as viagra! That also helps lining apparently). Here's the link to the original paper where they describe the findings in case you're interested: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/19200982/

@JennaRMD my OH was tested and also came back with low morphology (2%) but exactly like @Maisy24 they said it was all fine because his count and motility were high (Maisy we are actually TTC twins it's weird!) However I have been worrying that the morphology might still be an issue, and the clinic wanted to retest him in December so we'll see if anything new comes from that... Most doctors do recommend waiting for a year before doing any tests, though enjoying life in the meantime is easier said than done! Totally get what you mean about wanting to forget about it all...

@Mycrazylife85 I'm so sorry you had to deal with that... pregnancy announcements are the worst, especially surprise ones. Really hoping AF comes for you soon so you can get on with tests and get some answers.

Xxx

JennaRMD · 18/11/2019 09:49

@Maisy24 My Doctor said to try and enjoy life for the next few months and if nothings happening by April/May (1year of trying) then to go in. We are both young and healthy so she says she doesn't want to put too much pressure on it. It's horrible having all these worries. Wish I could just forget about it.

Maisy24 · 18/11/2019 09:42

@Mycrazylife85 oh no I know exactly how you feel; it really isn't nice hearing of pregnancies especially ones that are "surprises". Have you told anyone you are trying? To be honest I'm suspicious of anyone that says they weren't trying that long, they could just not be saying. We've not told anyone we are trying so when I get pregnant people will not know what we have been through. Although it does happen straight away for some ☹️

Hopefully we will get ours soon! Xxxxx

Maisy24 · 18/11/2019 09:39

@JennaRMD I know it's like our brains play tricks on us! Yeah my DH has been tested, everything came back fine, the only thing was his morphology came back low at 1% but they said because everything else was so high it didn't make a difference. You should definitely get your OH tested just so you know it's definitely not him.

Mycrazylife85 · 17/11/2019 23:31

Little sob. I've pulled off an Oscar winning performance following a pregnancy announcement. It was a 'surprise' for them and so was it for her friend who is also pregnant a month after first trying. I'm so pleased for them. It'll make my husbands mum a great grandmother but It'll be hard watching his mum get excited and taking all things baby. My husband said her first pregnancy test was wrong (negative) but she was in fact pregnant and she was late. Implying this could be me. I'm two weeks late, day 54 and I'm not pregnant, I've horrible hormonal spots and I'm feeling fat and bloated. Had to tell him on late because my body doesn't work properly not because I'm pregnant.

JennaRMD · 17/11/2019 19:25

@Maisy24 I hate non-related symptoms. They confuse the hell out of me. Emotional enough as it is without the mind games our bodies play lol.
As a matter of interest, has all of your OH been tested also? That's my other worry, that it might not be me at all. Not sure how that one would pan out considering I have spent the past 6 months obsessing over my own body. Just yet another irritating worry/thought that crossed my mind recently. The joys 🤦

Maisy24 · 17/11/2019 09:37

Hi @Hope365 another girl from another thread I was on advised on the vitamin E and exercise upto ovulation, she said it made a big difference as she had scans to check. I've been taking two tablets a day of 400 I.u vitamin E (from Tesco) then after ovulation she said to change to just 1 tablet a day (not sure why) then I've also been taking coq10 three tablets upto ovulation and 2 tablets after ovulation. And folic acid as usual.

What is this L-arginine? Never heard of this one.

6dpo and I've felt so sick last night and tired, but it's probably non related!

Hope365 · 16/11/2019 19:57

@Maisy24 yes trying the L-arginine thing this month so hoping it works some magic - though I must say it's giving me some pretty unpleasant side effects, hoping it's all worth it! How did you find the Vit E? How much were you taking daily? Still thinking of maybe trying it next, if this cycle doesn't work out... xxx

Maisy24 · 16/11/2019 10:25

@Hope365 ahh thanks for the information, that's really cleared things up! Hopefully there will be things you can do to increase it naturally aswell.

@Mycrazylife85 well you have the ball rolling now to find out what is going on, so that's positive! Just take it one step/appointment at a time. Hoping AF arrives for you soon!

Hope365 · 16/11/2019 07:32

@Mycrazylife85 sorry you're having to deal with such long cycles... I think there are some good treatment options to induce ovulation in PCOS, hopefully they are able to help you.

@JennaRMD lucky you in Scotland - I've heard you can get way more on the NHS up there (plus it's a beautiful part of the world)!

@Maisy24 with normal IVF they stimulate you to produce lots of eggs, retrieve them and fertilise them, then transfer 1 (or sometimes 2) 'fresh' embryos back in. However if you're lucky enough to get more embryos, they freeze them and can transfer them in later - a frozen cycle. So where were we live we get 1 fresh and one frozen cycle on the NHS - this means that if we don't get many eggs/embryos on the first cycle and it fails then we get nothing more.

With IUI they 'wash' the sperm to get the best out then inject it straight into the womb at ovulation time (it's often combined with meds for stronger ovulation) - I think this increases chances of conception though not nearly as much as IVF does. It costs £650 at our NHS hospital, much more if you go private. In our case though there would be no point in trying it unless the clinic were also offering some sort of treatment to thicken my lining as IUI alone wouldn't fix that. We're hoping for estrogen treatment which seems to be the standard thing for lining, but so far my clinic say they only give that as part of IVF cycles... 🙄 Hoping the endocrinologist might help us get that, or suggest some other miracle treatment! 🤞

Happy Saturday ladies! Xxx

Mycrazylife85 · 16/11/2019 00:25

Oh sorry, I misunderstood, @Maisy24 they did my bloods anyway and put a note on I was day 51

Mycrazylife85 · 16/11/2019 00:24

@Maisy24 both really. Still waiting but the bloods are to see what's going on in the meantime. I have the follow up appointment at the start of December, (I'd like to think perhaps AF may have arrived by then though as I'll be CD70 then) to talk through them. I don't know what I'll do if it comes back 'normal' 😳 I've not factored that in. Flip

Maisy24 · 15/11/2019 21:48

@Mycrazylife85 hahaha brilliant! The joys of our "not normal" cycles/periods. So are you waiting now until you start a period? Or are they sending you for bloods anyway?

Mycrazylife85 · 15/11/2019 19:20

Laught today..went for my first bloods. The nurse said to me "we like to do this test at around the 21st day of your cycle, what day are you on?"

I replied, "day 51".

😂

I find out December 4th...

JennaRMD · 15/11/2019 11:59

@Hope365 aw how I wish for the return of the "when's the wedding" questions 😅. They were much easier to deal with lol.

I'm in Scotland (Fife). Xx

Maisy24 · 15/11/2019 11:58

@hope what is the difference between fresh and frozen? It's so annoying how they've stopped doing iui, it's good that you are already on the list though and may isn't too far off! You should try relax as you have the backup plan in place now 😁

How much is the IUI? also why does that increase the chance versus normal dtd?

Sorry for loads of questions, I'm not clued up on this stuff!

I'm 4dpo today and feel ok, no symptoms or anything, it's going to be a long wait 🙄

Xxxx

Hope365 · 15/11/2019 11:43

@Maisy24 the FRER sounds like a good plan. If it's positive then 🎉🎉🎉, and if it's not then you have a perfect weekend away with your friends to take your mind off things and have a drink (or 5!)😉

Yes we get one fresh and one frozen transfer on the NHS where we live - agreed, the postcode lottery is outrageous 🙄 Apparently the NHS also used to offer a number of rounds of IUI before IVF, but they don't anymore (at least not where we live). We're on the waiting list for IVF (probably May next year) but will probably pay for IUI in the meantime, depending on what the endocrinologist says at our December appointment. But like you, keeping everything crossed that we won't need any of it!😁

How is your TWW going? Xxx

Maisy24 · 15/11/2019 11:22

@Hope365 I'm thinking I'll do an FRER on Friday morning that's 11dpo so if it says BFN then I'll feel better about having a drink.

I'm from Manchester, do you know if you get ivf on the nhs in your area? I think we get two free go's here but I think it's different depending where you live (which is ridiculous).

But I don't think we will need it 😁 xxx

Hope365 · 15/11/2019 10:42

Totally with you all on how crappy this app is! I've actually been using the website but yesterday thought it was time I downloaded the app as it would be easier to use... nope!

Ugh I hate the questions too... What is wrong with people asking all the time?? I've always thought it was pretty common knowledge that asking people about kids was not ok, but apparently not... To be honest though I actually feel quite lucky that OH and I aren't married (might do it one day but not a priority for now) because it means we have a buffer - people's go-to inappropriate question for us tends to be "so when's the wedding??"😂 Not a sensitive issue so much easier to handle. Still, I hate how intrusive people are, and how much people expect you to just conform - get married and have kids at all the appropriate times 🙄

The Christmas period is generally a nightmare for the drinking thing - puts even my best sly drinking tactics to the test! 😂

By the way out of curiosity where are you all? I'm in London xxx

JennaRMD · 14/11/2019 23:43

@Maisy24 I've said this also 😂. Spend so long trying and when it happens we'll be like "oh god 😳!" Lol x don't worry, you are not alone x

Maisy24 · 14/11/2019 23:08

@JennaRMD why do I feel like when we do get pregnant we are going to be like "oh shit what have I done" 🤣

JennaRMD · 14/11/2019 22:40

@ForeverHopeful67 yeah I feel that the obsessing is not helping but just can't control myself because I have weird ocd issues and anxiety (woohoo 🙌😅)!!! I might download that app just to check but I'm pretty sure I'm ovulating. My doctor said with everything I was telling her that she thinks I am too and that it's the Ovulation that is key and the heaviness of your period (in most cases) isn't the issue.
R.e. the drinking over xmas situation, I have also thought about this too... My mum asking me if I want a prosecco and me trying to tell her another reason for me not drinking - would not go down well 😂

@Maisy24 I think we may be twins 😂!!! I am a total animal person (even work with animals) and I have never really felt very maternal naturally. I know I'd love to be a Mum of my own child as it would be part of me a my better half so it would be different I think!
Don't worry, I've had alllllll the questions you can think of and like you it pretty much started right after my wedding last year!!! Someone even said to me recently "I take it you don't want kids then Jenna?" I was like 😳... I'm 27 not 57 !! Wtf 😂. I just tell people "not ruling it out, if it happens it happens". People are so ignorant to the fact eh? Christ as if we don't have enough to think about, deal with and worry over!!! Glad we are all in the same boat at least ❤️

Maisy24 · 14/11/2019 21:20

@ForeverHopeful67 omg the dreaded questions, they started like the day after I got married. They drive me insane.

SO... I rant all the time to pretty much anyone I know about how rude it is to ask a woman about babies. So I think most people have taken the hint. I also say "I enjoy it just me and my husband, were very happy" it annoys me because to be honest we do not need a baby to complete us; we are happy!

The mother in law IS THE WORST. I'm sick of hearing "we're not getting any younger" or "such a body down the road has 4 grandchildren" just to annoy her now I say I'm not sure I want them at all.

I do not understand when people persistently ask! What do they expect us to say "we'll yeah but unfortunately you can't order them by mail!"

Also I'm not a baby person I'm an animal person, and a career woman, so I think people assume I'm not bothered at all!

Rant over 🤣

ForeverHopeful67 · 14/11/2019 20:49
  • before I start typing my essay of a response I also agree this app if very hard to use and keep up with!! Haha

@JennaRMD I don't blame you on trying to hold back with temping for a while! It's so easy to get obsessive! I'm yet to get a positive opk / see a rise in temp so I think I'm going to keep going til I see one! Haha but yeah that's defo correct about the opk it has to be identical to the other line or darker to be positive. I use an app called Premom and you can take photos of your tests and it will measure and chart it for you

@Hope365 @Maisy24 love the idea of slyly trying to drink slower haha! I too love a good drink and have been trying to think of smart ways of how to hide it at Christmas events coming up just incase it did happen!!

How does everyone deal with the usual questions - " why don't you have a baby yet, are you ready? Are you trying" etc, hate those!! - not as easy as everyone makes out haha x
