Light periods after stopping pill

I stopped taking my pill in December and TTC since. I have had really regular periods since but they are so light! The same every time, period pains start on the Sunday night and I don't get it til the Friday. Last for 2-3 days and I can get away with wearing only one pad everyday. Getting worried now, I know it takes time for them to get back to normal but I have had 4 and they were never like this before! Anyone had anything similar with success?

@JennaRMD great news about bloods! And good thinking about doing it in Jan and not over Xmas.

I need to chase the referral with my doctor so I'm going to ring tomorrow I think to make sure they are doing it; I'm so impatient!

Maisy24 · 10/12/2019 22:15

@Hope365 Omg that is AMAZING!!! So glad it went well and you have an action plan ready to go!!! Even better that the timing has fell perfect and you can enjoy Xmas and then start your new cycle with the plan!

Thanks so much for the information. It's made me feel hopeful especially the morphology. Did they say how they know it's the pill and not scarring? I've had an ultra sound so assuming that would be picked up if it was that?

I've not chased the referral yet as I only went Friday I might ring tomorrow though! I'm so eager I want to know they've definitely started the process!

How are you taking estrogen? By tablet? I'm surprised they are not offering the treatment on nhs! I'm sure it must be cheaper than ivf!

Hi ladies, thank you all for the encouragement today, I needed it ❤ I was pretty nervous about it all - mostly because we've waited so long and I was so desperate to come out of it with a plan, but it went really well, and we did! Hold on tight for the details - it's gonna be a long one 😂

She explained to me that there are two main things that could be causing my thin lining - the first is physical abnormalities like uterine scarring (caused by infections or surgery), which is hard to treat, and the other is the pill. Thankfully there is no reason to suspect scarring in my case, and because I actually had normal periods when I was on the pill (even though these are not 'real' periods) it shows that my lining can physically grow, given the right conditions. She told me that the pill can down-regulate the system that is responsible for growing the lining and essentially make it less responsive to my natural hormones. So although I am producing enough estrogen which normally causes the lining to thicken, my lining is not responding as much as it should. So starting next cycle I will be taking medication called gonadotropins, which are supposed to stimulate my ovaries to produce more follicles, and therefore also more estrogen - and hopefully thicken my lining! I'll also be taking estrogen during the luteal phase🤞🤞🤞 It's pretty scary stuff as the gonadotropins are injectable meds - meaning I will have to inject myself every day 😱 - but to be honest I'm so excited to finally be trying something that I don't really care... (It's also unfortunately not funded by the NHS and is bloody expensive 😬). The timing is perfect as I should start my next cycle just after the holidays, meaning I can go off and enjoy Christmas knowing that we have a serious action plan for when we come back! Scary but exciting!

@niamhie95 and @JennaRMD - great that you are both getting bloods done. And Jenna totally get you waiting till January - it's so important we try to still enjoy stuff in the meantime (though so hard sometimes...).

@Maisy24 any news on your referral? We didn't get the morphology results today (we got everything else which was fine), but the doctor reassured me again that 2% morphology is not a problem so long as count and motility are fine.

Xxx

JennaRMD · 10/12/2019 14:50

Booked in for bloods on 24th Jan (day 21 of my cycle) to check if I'm ovulating. Didn't want to do it this month with it being Xmas and all, just want to try and enjoy it!
@niamhie95 that's good that they've gave you some positive advice, just get the bloods and wait and see what the outcome is then go from there, think that's what I'm going to do.
@Hope365 thinking of you today. Hope you get some much needed answers ❤️
@Maisy24 how are you doing? Waiting on letters is a nightmare, although tbf it's usually like a speeding fine or something I'm waiting on lol. Hope it comes through soon for you so you can have that to look to ❤️

niamhie95 · 10/12/2019 13:44

@maisy24 thanks! I just wish it would go away then come back. 🙈

Maisy24 · 10/12/2019 13:37

@niamhie95 glad the appointment went well! Glad you are getting bloods done, also I agree with the body getting back to normal; my cycles have been regular for about 4-5 months now, before that they were allover the show, I think it's taken my body over a year!

@JennaRMD you can definitely ovulate some months but not others. I was exactly the same with bloods and I was panicking when I had to go. But you know what; it's not bad at all and I've now realised I was being daft, you can't even feel it, I just look away.

Xxxxxx

Maisy24 · 10/12/2019 13:32

@Hope365 hope the appointment goes ok! Best of luck ❤️

niamhie95 · 10/12/2019 09:04

@Hope365. Appointment went ok. Doctor thinks because i have went off my pill its just it trying to get back to normal. They also are sending me for blood test next week. I get the b12 injection but i might not need it anymore and also told me to do a pregnancy test to make sure I'm not pregnant

Hope365 · 10/12/2019 08:24

@JennaRMD that sounds like a good plan! I know it's not pleasant but it'll be over quickly and at least you'll get some answers.

I'll keep you all posted on how today goes (feeling nervous...) xxx

@niamhie95 hope your appointment went well x

JennaRMD · 09/12/2019 09:54

@Hope365 let us know how you get on at your appointment ❤️

JennaRMD · 09/12/2019 09:54

@Maisy24 @Hope365 I think I'm going to make and appointment with the nurse to get bloods done, least that will maybe give me some answers/put my mind at ease a little. I think it could be lack of ovulation but last month I was 99% that I had 2 positives (like the one I posted) so now I'm confused. I have read that you may ovulate some months and not others though so god knowa it's all ifs and buts and maybes. I have a complete phobia of getting blood taken so hence why I've been so indecisive but suppose I may as well just bite the bullet!

niamhie95 · 09/12/2019 09:19

I managed to get an appointment this evening 😊

Hope365 · 09/12/2019 08:47

@jennaRMD like @Maisy24 says I thought that PCOS would mean irregular periods, but I'm no expert... I do think that light periods can mean no ovulation, especially if you're not getting positive OPKs - it's an easy test to check and I guess the positive is that there are lots of treatment options to induce ovulation if that does turn out to be the problem (eg clomid/letrozole). If I was you I would probably get tests done, but mostly because for me I find it's the only thing that makes me feel like I have a little control over the situation - I hate feeling helpless and just waiting. But everyone is different and I also completely understand that getting tested is terrifying. I found that I waited until the stress of just wondering if something was wrong got worse than the stress of actually having the tests done! Ugh there's just no escaping the stress 🙄

@Maisy24 yes appointment is tomorrow!! And OH is having a second semen analysis done today (he is not looking forward to having to do the deed in the hospital 😬), so hoping we'll also get the results of that tomorrow - yes we are going together. Appointment is at 11.30. I think we got very lucky with our initial referral - it was booked during our GP appointment for 3 weeks later, but I've since found out that that's really unusual and the wait is normally longer (I don't know what happened with us). I've had to wait for letters for other things in the past though and it drove me crazy - I was always chasing up too! Def get on their case about it! Xxx

Maisy24 · 09/12/2019 00:16

@Hope365 pets really do help! Sorry your landlord won't allow it 😩 the silver lining is they are ALOT of work. It's your appointment this week!! So exciting. What time is it at? Do both of you go to this appointment? How long was it for you between the doctors saying they will refer you to getting the appointment? I'm going to chase mine up this week.

@JennaRMD keep trying but just try not to obsess, easier said than done! My family is the same, my mum got pregnant without trying 😩 everyone seems to get pregnant quickly. Just goes to show it's not hereditary. If I were you I would go to my gp and explain the symptoms and ask for the blood tests, when they come back fine it might help ease your mind that it's just taking time and nothing is actually wrong. I'm no doctor but i think with PCOS you wouldn't be regular. A simple blood test would be able to tell you though. How long have you been trying again?

JennaRMD · 08/12/2019 19:55

@Maisy24 think I might try Vitiman E. Do you have recommendations of where to purchase it etc?

JennaRMD · 08/12/2019 19:43

That's 2 days of one brown smudge a day I've had. Something definitely isn't right. Same exact thing every month. Bang on time but 2-3 days of a tiny brown smudge each day, really only noticeable when wiping. I think it's more like "spotting" than an actual period but I'm 100% sure it's my period because it comes the same time every month along with all symptoms. Would you advise getting tests done? Was kind of hoping something would have changed a bit this month but nothing is happening. All I can find about spotting at the time of period instead of a "proper" AF is PCOS which now I'm shitting myself about. Although I know google is the devil and I have no other symptoms from this. I'm concerned. ☹️

niamhie95 · 08/12/2019 13:09

Hey girls. Just an update o was very light yesterday now I'm a medium with blood. This has been going on about 3 weeks. Doing my head in lol

JennaRMD · 07/12/2019 12:17

@hope365 unfortunately relaxed is the last thing I am about it all, just trying to pre occupy myself with something else before I go off my head. Don't think we will stop trying just not sure if there's any point in me getting tested alone. I definitely did not think I'd be in this position. My whole family are fertile as hell 😥😂

Hope365 · 07/12/2019 12:07

@Maisy24 great about the referral! Fingers crossed the letter doesn't take too long to come - I hate waiting for the letters... 🙄 Lucky you with the pets - I'm desperate to get a cat but the landlord won't allow it... Might have to just sneak one in at some point and not tell him! They just make everything better...

@JennaRMD taking a break until next April/May sounds like a good idea, especially if you want to go away and are not in a rush. I wish I could be a bit more relaxed about it all... xxxx

Maisy24 · 07/12/2019 00:15

@JennaRMD I know I'm sick of it all! I might Just's stick with my pets! Much easier 🤣

JennaRMD · 06/12/2019 23:11

@Maisy24 everything is so confusing 🤦

Maisy24 · 06/12/2019 23:05

@JennaRMD that's a great idea , just enjoy life and have lots of holidays. Just to play devils advocate my nanna hardly bled and she had no problems getting pregnant and also very quickly! Doesn't always mean there's an issue. Xxxxxx

JennaRMD · 06/12/2019 21:46

My AF is basically like everyday discharge but just a slightly light brown colour for 2-3 days, literally not even enough for one panty liner!!! I've been wearing white knickers so I can keep track of consistency, that's literally how litte it is, like a small "smudge" a day. I just have instinct that it isn't right but my doc says wait a year because they are very regular. It's basically like the spotting people talk about before their AF shows up except that is my period and nothing more.. I'm beginning to lose hope and care tbh. Might just buy another dog 😅😭🙈

@Hope365 I'm scared to get tested alone in case everything comes back ok and then I worry about DH. Think we will wait til April/May and go together, no "major" rush for us I suppose 🙄😣!!!

Think we are going to go abroad in February. #yolo

Maisy24 · 06/12/2019 19:10

@Hope365 thanks for the advice, I'm getting referred, got to wait for a letter from my doctors now (the doctor I seen tonight was a different surgery) hoping the wait isn't too long xxxxx

Hope365 · 06/12/2019 18:15

@Maisy24 I think they usually say you have to have been trying for at least a year to get referred so you really shouldn't have to fight for it. The only thing my GP said was that we both had to have all the basic tests done with them first before getting the referral, but I think that varies on where you are, and you've had most of those tests done already anyway? So hopefully it should be easy for you, just make sure to say you've been trying a long time with good timing. Good luck! Thinking of you, let us know how it goes xxx
