Light periods after stopping pill

HRMC87 · 20/03/2015 12:02

I stopped taking my pill in December and TTC since. I have had really regular periods since but they are so light! The same every time, period pains start on the Sunday night and I don't get it til the Friday. Last for 2-3 days and I can get away with wearing only one pad everyday. Getting worried now, I know it takes time for them to get back to normal but I have had 4 and they were never like this before! Anyone had anything similar with success?

@sredwards so great to hear your positive experience getting pregnant in 4 months! We need a bit of that positive thought. I always remain hopeful! Xx

MrsKirsty · 15/01/2020 19:18

Hello everyone, sorry I've been away for a while. Really needed a proper break over Christmas and New Year to not think about TTC for a while and get drunk alot haha. Didn't go on any TTC websites or blogs (my OH's advice 🙈).

Just been reading all your updates from the last 6weeks and so much stuff has happened for you all!! Referrals coming through, proper positive opks and treatment plans. Was so lovely reading all of this just now! Although it must feel like nothing is happening for you, reading it all seemed so positive!! As you can imagine, still not pregnant but I'm 9dpo and feeling positive like I do every month lol

Sending you all the pregnancy vibes 🤞🏼🤞🏼

sredwards · 15/01/2020 17:59

I had light periods after stopping the pill, been TTC since may. Took me 4 months to get pregnant :). I'm sure you'll be fine xx

Maisy24 · 15/01/2020 17:58

@JennaRMD really sorry about the announcement they really are awful, no matter how happy you are for them. Glad you are getting a blood test, at least it will be a double check! I'd ask to do the other ones if you start another cycle (hopefully you don't). I'm on for 18ish months ttc now and i am beginning to think should I just give up.😓

@Hope365 hey. Yes I rang the number on the letter and they confirmed it was a fertility referral and we need to both go, it's just in the gynaecology department; I can't wait for it to come around! I'm currently 2dpo , my cycles have been regular now for at least 5 months so I'm hoping they are starting to get back to normal after the pill! How is your treatment going? How you feeling.

Wishing you both the best of luck for this month girls 💖💖 I think you two are the only ones where I wouldn't get a sinking feeling, I'd be made up! 🍀🍀🍀🍀

Xxxxx

JennaRMD · 15/01/2020 13:50

@hope365 it's ok. I'm super happy for her I just don't understand why it's not happening for us. Although they won't test DH until 1year so need to wait til May if it hasn't already happened. I'm booked in for bloods on the 21st now, although I've just had an ovulation smiley this morning which is day 15 so it's exactly on time along with EWCM and ovulation cramps so they are likely only going to tell me what I already know but I'm going to go anyway. Was trying to not think about it all too much and had been doing well up until last night 🤦.
How's your treatment coming on? Xx

Hope365 · 15/01/2020 11:27

Hi @JennaRMD, ugh sorry to hear that... pregnancy announcements are the worst (especially surprise ones). Two of my closest friends are pregnant at the moment, and a third has just had a baby, and all of them got pregnant really quickly. It can feel very unfair and lonely...

Where are you at with your blood test? Did you manage to get it moved to day 20? I'm not sure what they can check during the luteal phase other than progesterone, but there are a load more tests they should do at the start of your cycle (usually around day 3 I think) - like FSH, and tests for thyroid function. They're all things that can affect your period, and pretty standard tests - my GP ordered them for me the first time I went to see her about my period issues. Hopefully you get some answers soon! 🤞

@Maisy24 did you find out more about your appointment? Is it at a fertility clinic, and with your DH? Xxx

JennaRMD · 15/01/2020 09:00

Hi all!! How are you all doing? I got a surprise pregnancy announcement yesterday from a friend, 3 months of trying. Ugh. So happy for her but just wish someone could tell me why it's taking us 8 months so far.

JennaRMD · 09/01/2020 11:15

@hope365 I'm waiting on a call from the doctor to see if I can get in on day 20 instead of 24. Is there anything else they can check from bloods other than ovulation? I'm not really sure what to ask for? I'm like 90% sure I'm ovulating as my body is like clockwork, all the right symptoms leading up to and after AF but this month (like all other months) I had 2-3 days of a very very light brown discharge and that was it. I just want someone to tell me that it will sort itself out and it'll happen eventually but don't know if there's anything else they can check for to see why my periods are so light. We're coming up 8 months now and still no baby, which is ok but I just want to know why!

@hope365 so glad you have all your stuff. Fingers crossed for you!!! Scary but very exciting journey ahead x

Hope365 · 09/01/2020 10:38

Hi @Maisy24, don't apologise - it's def good to take some time off the phone and the TTC stuff when you can! For your appointment I'm not really sure to be honest - it was different for me as the letter we got was for a fertility clinic, not gynecology, and it explicitly said that we had to go together with OH. In my experience gynae and fertility are two quite different departments, but maybe it's different where you are? Perhaps try to get in touch with your GP - or if there's a number on the letter - to check whether your DH should be going too, and check that they made the correct referral for fertility? I'm sure they have but can't hurt to check!

@JennaRMD I think usually they like to check 7 days after ovulation - there's a chance progesterone will have started dropping already by 10 days post ovulation. Any chance you can ask to get the blood test a few days earlier?

In big news I received my drug delivery in the post yesterday... pretty intimidating massive parcel full of a million different things, and lots of needles 😬 Scary but also I can't wait to start! Obviously after my inconveniently short cycle last month, which meant I missed starting treatment now because I was still away, my cycles are now back to being long, so I've just got to be patient and wait... typical uncooperative body 🙄

Xxx

JennaRMD · 09/01/2020 08:43

Hi all! I have my blood test on day 24 of this month, is that too late to tell if I'm ovulating if I usually ovulate around day 14?

Maisy24 · 07/01/2020 16:16

@Hope365 sorry I've been off my phone quite a bit just trying to keep my mind off it but now I'm 10dpo and ready to start this month again 🙈 hope you had a lovely Christmas and new year! How did staying with your friends go? I'm the same I hate big family gatherings now as I just know people are going to comment around when we are having kids. I wanted to ask you a question, I have my appointment letter now and it says it's with the gynaecology department, I was expecting the first appointment to be both me and DH , should I just go on my own to this one? Did you see the gynaecologist or was a joint appointment first?

@Melbs6 thanks for the positive story, it's good to know light periods are not the be all and end all, and a big congratulations!

@JennaRMD so sorry you got a negative, this journey really is awful, sending lots of love your way.

@Louise3467 so sorry you are having a similar issue as the rest of us, thanks for sharing. It's been a huge help having these lovely ladies to share information and rant to. You are right my gp doesn't seem recognise it's the pill, but I don't think gps are very informed around fertility issues, @hope has been very helpful sharing knowledge from the hospital, I will be doing the same when I attend my appointment in Feb. Sending lots of luck your way for 2020!

Louise3467 · 04/01/2020 17:43

@Hope365 Ahh that’s great news, hope they work for you 🙏🏻

Not till Feb, and a consultation in March. Then hoping for a break to try and focus on something else! Lots of luck with yours!

Hope365 · 04/01/2020 15:19

@Louise3467 that's exactly the lining measurement I got during my luteal phase. Thanks for the recommendations - the NHS GPs are pretty useless when it comes to recognising problems with the pill! None of the doctors took my thin lining concerns seriously until I pushed to have a scan during my luteal phase, and even then it took a while before I saw a hormone specialist who admitted the pill was likely the cause... I've been hoping it would regulate with time but it's been almost 2 years off the pill for me now and my periods are still as light as ever 🙁

When is your hysteroscopy? One doctor suggested I should have one done but then another dismissed it because they said there was no reason to suspect scarring given that my "periods" were normal when I was on the pill - not real periods I know but apparently shows that my lining can grow, given the right hormones... Still, I'd definitely be reassured if they could take a closer look in there! I've had most other tests now though so it's on to treatments for me - I'll be starting injectable hormones next cycle to try to boost things and thicken my lining 😬🤞 xxx

Louise3467 · 03/01/2020 15:59

@Hope365 Ah thank you - positive thoughts for 2020 definitely!

It's always been in my luteal phase but the most recent (3rd!) was 9 DPO - the same day i started spotting, but they couldn't see any abnormalities for that. They have referred me for a hysteroscopy so hoping that has a better result!

I did my own research on the pill, as whilst the NHS have been great they also seem to have very little knowledge on the side effects! Can recommend fertility friday and period power if anyone is looking for the same thing :) it seems a lot of people can take up to two years for cycles to regulate so fingers crossed we're heading in the right direction!! Hoping it's all linked but we'll see.

Have they referred you for further tests? Hope you get some answers soon too!

Hope365 · 03/01/2020 15:35

@JennaRMD I'm so sorry about your result - sorry I somehow missed your post and have only just seen it... AF saw me in to the new year like the good old reliable friend she is (🙄), so you're not alone!

@Maisy24 where are you at?

@Louise3467 hi and thanks for joining! I'm so sorry you're dealing with the same issue 😔 At what point of your cycle was your lining checked? Have you already been referred to a clinic? It took me ages to find a doctor who recognised the problem and admitted it could be the pill... 🙄

Happy new year ladies - let's hope 2020 brings us all that BFP! It really helps to know you guys are here xxx

Louise3467 · 03/01/2020 15:11

@Hope365

Louise3467 · 03/01/2020 15:08

Thank you for sharing- i am in the same boat and it’s reassuring to know i’m not the only one!! Most recent scan showed lining at 5.8mm so hoping its going to get thicker on its own 🙏🏻 A year post pill and still such a light period, (completely different to before the pill,) but even the fertility doctor refuses to believe the pill has any negative side effects!! Hope you get some positive changes soon

JennaRMD · 29/12/2019 17:09

Yeah so it's negative. Bleh 🤮

Hope365 · 29/12/2019 17:05

@JennaRMD that's definitely not too early to test... Keeping everything crossed for you 🤞
@Maisy24 hope you're doing ok xxx

JennaRMD · 29/12/2019 10:23

@hope365 11days today x

Hope365 · 29/12/2019 10:21

@jennaRMD that's exciting! How many DPO are you? Xxx

JennaRMD · 29/12/2019 10:06

@Melbs6 thank you for your story. At least that puts a little positivity onto things.

@Maisy24 @Hope365 I'm sorry you are getting the usual period feelings again, I know how difficult it is. I started getting my usual sore breasts a couple of days ago but have been feeling so nauseous since Xmas day/boxing day. Was going to do a test but don't know if it's too early or if I'm even prepared for the symptoms to be another non pregnancy related bout 😴

Hope365 · 28/12/2019 13:39

@Maisy24 I'm so sorry... it's just shit 😔 If it can make you feel any better I'm 10DPO and feeling exactly the same way - I start to get that period feeling from about 7DPO every time which is always really depressing, and makes me worry that my body starts to prepare for AF too early before implantation would even have a chance to happen... Just trying to stay positive and hopeful that time (and possibly treatments) will get us there! Not long now till your appointment ❤

How has Christmas been for you? I'm always dreading the questions about when we'll be having babies etc. At least both sets of parents know about our struggles which makes things a bit easier... Going to stay with friends tonight for a couple of days who have 2 kids and are pregnant with the third, kind of dreading how it's going to make me feel... Infertility sucks 😕 xxx

Melbs6 · 28/12/2019 10:57

I had a very similar problem - I came off the pill and my periods were so light I could get away with just a panty liner for about a year. I went to my GP and she said as long as I’m having a period i will be ovulating. I wasn’t TTC at this point (using condoms) I just wanted to regulate my cycles again. We were meant to start trying in January but I’ve just found out I’m already pregnant (5w3d) it happened a month early! So don’t worry - i think it’s pretty normal for your periods to be light after the pill, especially if you were on it for a long time. But if you are still worried, go and see your GP and hopefully they’ll reassure you

Maisy24 · 28/12/2019 01:06

@Hope365 @JennaRMD well I'm 12dpo today and feel like I'm about to start AF at any minute, same old back ache and that dreaded feeling 😔 I don't know why I'm upset as I should know better by now not to get my hopes up. honestly feel like it is never going to happen.
