Hello lovelies, thanks Mary's! He gets a fair bit of calcium from food but he seems to still guzzle a lot of milk from me before sleeping and at crack of dawn. He is a little un so I'm worried if I drop too much milk he will lose weight. But he should be getting enough food at 16 months.... ?! Got myself in a right state about all of this. Know I am being daft. Hid his doidy cup after the regular drenchings we took when he first used it, may be time to dig it back out from cupboard.... And straw cups sound up his street too. Thanks all.

Mumofone - yeah at 10 months I too was NO WAY ready to think about weaning. The bond is intense Smile Well done for starting your DtD mission Wink

Hi Giddy Smile

Btw pear I thought that was so sweet about the evening feed weaning story. I'm still totally demand feeding & as others have said it's such an intense bond I can't imagine not doing it Confused my dd is only 10 months tho so I'm nowhere near that stage yet.

Mumof1sofar · 03/03/2015 22:48

Wow pear that's v organised of him!

I'm writing this post-coitally lying on a pillow with my legs in the air lol! I'm on cd9 but not temping or using ov sticks so who knows when I will ovulate. As af only came back a couple of weeks ago I don't even really know if I'm fertile yet! Oh well we'll see how it goes this month!

MarysPrayer · 03/03/2015 22:44

Hi Giddy Smile Nice to see you back on here.

If your ds gets plenty of calcium from his food then I wouldn't worry too much that he doesn't drink milk.

I agree though, that doidy cups are really good.

peardrop2 · 03/03/2015 22:36

DH asked me for our TTC schedule tonight so he can plan around work. Sigh. If only it was that simple Grin I wish someone would print out my TTC schedule for me...imagine that Wink

Have you tried doidy cups or cups with straws (we have colourful plastic picnic cups with straws inbeddded in the cup from co-op that DS loves) I would try something that looks a bit more grown up for fun. Friends have tall beakers with flip tops that look more grownup for older toddlers but your Dc could probably handle one now.

Giddymamma · 03/03/2015 21:22

That is cute pear. :) thank you. Apart from my emotional issues we have a slight practical one... He's never taken a bottle and we can't get him to drink milk from his cups.... We've tried warm and cold, and oh is now suggesting nesquik! Any advice welcomed. :)

peardrop2 · 03/03/2015 21:15

Giddy - I too was worried about the bond. Honestly...nothing has changed. He still calls shouts my name "Ma", still has that gorgeous grin for me, just as cheeky and demanding as ever, he still needs constant cuddles, he still likes me to cuddle him before putting him in his cot. I've kept the routine the same except now we read a story whilst he drinks his milk and then I brush his teeth. I think keeping their routine is key. I had two days of him kicking his legs when I said it was sleepy time but I held him tight and he soon got it. No tears. I think you will be surprised. The important thing is to be light hearted and reassuring about it. Saying all this if it goes wrong you can always change your mind.i told myself that il give it a go but no big deal if change my mind last minute.

Oh pear I feel really sad about it too! Oh doesn't understand why I'm procrastinating - time to try for another is not on our side - but I have the fear that I will lose my precious bond with my boy. I know that's ridiculous and I never ever planned to feed this long, but still sat in the sofa in tears just thinking about stopping. Someone shake me!

peardrop2 · 03/03/2015 20:52

Hello Giddy ?? I sooooo know how you feel. I've only just stopped the 7pm feed 7 days a go myself. Only just feel OK about it. Took me a week Smile I think I've been too harsh on myself, after all I have been feeding at 7pm for 21 months... of course it is normal for me to feel sad!! Anyway, I think your doctors advise sounds sensible. How do you feel about trying it?

Giddymamma · 03/03/2015 20:36

Evening, jumping on from the march bus. I've been reading back on this thread and I can't believe I've only just found you all! So comforting to read about mamas in the same position as me. Still a bit teary from the weaning poem...
I have a 16mo ds who still feeds at bedtime and through the night. Desperately torn between wanting a new baby and not wanting to boot ds off boob before I am he is ready.

Spoke to my doctor today who said I could try to limit ds' feeds at night by popping him on when he beats me on the chest asks for milk but taking him off again after 30 seconds. If he is really hungry he will ask again and if he is just faffing around he will go back to sleep. Anyone else heard / tried this?

Stats are 37, ttc #2, cycle 2 (but no idea if ovulating - CBFM says nooooo), af came back when ds was 15 months, feed to sleep at night and through the night ( he jumps in bed with us if he wakes after midnight and usually stays there).

peardrop2 · 03/03/2015 20:24

Yep, I also fed to sleep. Why wouldn't you take advantage of the magic sleeping spell Wink It always made me smile to hear formula feeding mummies say they were struggling settling at night. Made up for the fact they got to sleep through Grin

Well done on feeding during your work conference, Puggle! Smile my sister's colleague was going into work for important meetings while she was on mat leave with lo and feeding, I think it's great Grin and that lady was bf'ing her 3 year old when she fell pregnant again, twice a day on the boob and expressing in between and she's older than me, if that helps anyone... Wink

DD is asleep - hoping she sleeps through after last night. I can't keep up with her keeping 'student' hours anymore...Shock it's made me question how I'd cope with lack of sleep if I had to take care another lo too after last night... I know we couldn't be as indulgent was we were first time found, feeding all night and sleeping whenever we could during the day, as I'd have DD to look after too..Hmm ...I got used to functioning on only 2-5 hours sleep after I had DD and I would even breeze into the office and do a full day's work after a 'bad' night when I returned from mat leave, but lately I feel it's catching up with me...Confused I guess you just get on with it though, don't you Blush

Im so pleased to hear that many of you bf to sleep - I felt a bit embarrassed that DD couldn't/didn't want to go to sleep any other way. Our dentist advised me at DDs first annual check-up not to bf after brushing DDs teeth at night as there's sugar in milk, but we've just taken her for her second dental check up and her teeth are perfect and nothing was mentioned about the breast milk Confused I'm glad I didn't take her 'advice' a year ago, or I'd have had even less sleep, lol x

Mumof1sofar · 03/03/2015 18:17

Poor you ispy. Hope your dc are better soon & you can get some rest.

I think feeding to sleep is one of the best things about bf-ing. I have to feed dd to sleep every night or she takes ages to settle. It's like magic

Marysprayer sounds like you've had your work cut out with your lo. Glad it's got easier now though.

Glad I'm not the only one having trouble keeping up with the March bus! I post something then 10 mins later its moved on by about 50 posts lol! This group will definitely be easier to keep up with Smile

Welcome spek. Hope this is a lucky month for you & us all!

hideandsqueak · 03/03/2015 18:04

Whoever gets the next BFP has to start the BF whilst pregnant antenatal group! I will be waiting!

For those who asked I am planning on feeding DS for as long as he desires and hoping the nausea and sore nipples pass with the first trimester. I am willing to tandem if that's how thing go...

Sorry if this posts twice my app is being funny

spekulatius · 03/03/2015 17:54

I've been trying the ovulation tests but they're always negative. Haven't read through the whole thread but looks like the answer is to keep trying.

TheEagle · 03/03/2015 17:39

Sorry, not through temping, through using OPKs (ovulation predictor kits)

TheEagle · 03/03/2015 17:38

Plus there was a lady on the previous thread who hadn't gotten her period (AF = Aunt Flo = period) at all but through temping she caught the first egg! She's due a few weeks before me. I can't remember how old her DC was when she conceived.

It's completely personal to every woman I think but your nurse is wrong to say you must wean to conceive. Otherwise the human race would've died out a long time ago Wink

hide, I remember that pain and nausea so well. I fed through the first trimester and absolutely hated it. When we found out we were having twins I decided to encourage DS to wean.

Whatever about feeding 2 at a time, I won't be feeding 3 at a time!

spekulatius · 03/03/2015 17:24

Thanks we feed for about 45min in the morning, feed to sleep for nap late afternoon, feed when waking up, feed to sleep, then in the night we co-sleep so not really sure, sometimes once or twice, sometimes a lot. Then during the day sometimes she doesn't ask additionally, sometimes a lot but I think that's more boredom, if she's upset, usually just a quick suck. Obviously I don't know how much she's really drinking or whether she's only sucking but there's definitely milk there. So stats, what do you need?
Age 32
TTC number 2
DD is 27 months

Don't get quite all the abbreviations. AF?

I did have the implant before having DD, had a period the next month and was pregnant the following month so I don't think it's that. Never had a period whilst on the Implant. And before using that was always regular about every 4 weeks.

MarysPrayer · 03/03/2015 16:53

Welcome spekulatius Smile

I don't think there are any definite answers to whether feeding/feeding often can hinder fertility. On one hand we have eagle and hide on here who successfully conceived whilst feeding often, yet on the other hand I've read that some people have to fully wean in order to conceive. In the latter group though, how do we really know that the reason they conceived that month was because they had weaned. It may have just been coincidence.

Maybe your cycles are still returning to normal? I hope they settle very soon.
How often does your dd feed?

If you want to give us your stats then I'm sure the very clever pear will add you to our list. Smile

spekulatius · 03/03/2015 16:28

Hi mums can I join you? We've been trying TTC no.2 since August but nothing yet. I had the implant taken out in August and no periods until December, then another one in January but nothing since. Spoke to nurse from sexual health clinic today who said that periods should be normal like how they used to be before having the implant. So I asked her if breastfeeding could be the reason and she said definitely because of how often DD drinks. She's 2. But I have a few friends who got pregnant whilst breastfeeding as often as me. Any thoughts? So frustrating, I just want it to happen.

MarysPrayer · 03/03/2015 14:41

Afternoon everyone Smile This thread has really taken off!

Pear and Ava sorry you both had rough nights. I have to say though ava I am very Envy of your dd's 11am start. Also, isn't it lovely when they feed to sleep? It's so rare for dd to do this now Sad

Ispy I hope your poorly dcs are better v soon Flowers

Pear, try not to stress about whether your baby will arrive by the end of this year. I'm like you in that I have certain 'deadlines' in my head. Our first cycle would have meant that dc2 would arrive before I turned 38. Our second would have meant dd may have still been 2 when dc2 arrived, and now this cycle means dc2 would arrive before the end of this year. I need to chill out a bit more hey?!

Re bf in public: I haven't been able to do this since dd was about 5 months old. She was (and still is) incredibly nosy and wriggly and, as much I tried, it just got more and more difficult and she fed less and less well. I should have known when, at her 8 week check, our very experienced health visitor commented on how 'alert' she was. Hmm. What she really meant was 'you're gonna have fun with her'. How true. About 2 weeks later she started seriously fighting her naps. If it weren't for hours of pram walking she would have dropped her naps at 10 weeks I think. At the time is was very restrictive and I missed out on all the coffees with fellow mums etc etc. But, like everything it got easier as her feeds and naps became more spaced. I'm owed an easy baby next time round though.

Hide yes, definitely stay with us. Smile Maybe we'll soon be asking for this thread to be moved to the antenatal section and renamed bf during pg Grin

Mumof I was on most of the jan and feb buses but you're right they do move so quickly so I have taken to mainly stalking lurking now. Some good tips (and mindless banter) on there though.

peardrop2 · 03/03/2015 14:30

Ispy ~ sorry your household is poorly. That is such a downfall to TTC. Don't give up though as I had a stinking cold last month but still potentially OVd so don't panic yet Wink
