For anyone TTC or thinking about TTC with Soy Isoflavones

Disneylandkilledmychildhood · 23/10/2014 21:18

I will be starting soy isoflavones tomorrow, cd 3.

This will be my 11th cycle TTC, with two chemical pregnancies/ early miscarriages @ about 5weeks so far this year already.

I've read up quite a lot on SI, and just at the point now where I'm thinking, what the hell, I'll give it a go!

Anybody else TTC with soy isoflavones?

I'm on cd10 and took my last soy dose of 200mg last night. Now waiting to ov, usually get a positive on cd11 but thinking it will be later as no hint of a line on opks.

Hope we see another bfp here soonGrin

NewEraNewMindset · 02/11/2014 12:05

I'm still waiting for AF to arrive. Am quite excited that it looks like age will be here tomorrow instead and I've managed to add a day onto my LP by taking 100mg B6 a day!

BobsyBoo · 02/11/2014 11:49

Frolicacid thanks for the info about epo, I'm going to stop taking it after ovulation & see if that helps as well as everything else I'm trying at the moment. This is my 22nd cycle of TTC so here's hoping this is the one!

Frolicacid · 01/11/2014 18:59

Hi everyone! My opk's are getting stronger, so I'm hoping the soy I did manage to take is doing something. I think I'm coming into my fertile time a bit sooner than usual, so have kicked off the dtd-a-thon Grin

newera, I took 3000mg epo last month to improve ewcm as I don't get much. It worked a treat! I have taken 1000mg every day for years to help with sore boobs before af, so obviously needed the higher dose. I think that you are meant to stop after ovulation if ttc as it causes uterine contractions, which aren't good for implantation. It also seems to give me strong nails, which is a nice bonus!

BobsyBoo · 01/11/2014 15:30

Metal it's good when you know the Soy is doing something, it brought my ov forward by 3 days & didn't even take enough.

NewEra that is interesting about evening primrose oil, I've taken it for years as it stops period cramps. I do get a lot of EWCM around my fertile window so it must be down to the evening primrose oil.

NewEraNewMindset · 01/11/2014 12:25

So I've just picked up soy from Tesco. They have a 3 for 2 offer on at the moment so picked up evening primrose oil too as that is meant to help with EWCM.

Mam31 · 01/11/2014 11:12

Thanks Kitty! Hope you are feeling well. Oh I thought I should be taking the soy earlier to increase my LP? If I ov later would that not make my LP even shorter? Or will the soy give me a longer cycle? Sorry no idea about all of this!

spinningirl10 · 01/11/2014 10:40

That's good MetalGrin

Probably, that's interesting to know about the B6, maybe I should give that a try.

NewEraNewMindset · 01/11/2014 10:17

Sounds good Metal Grin

I'm just waiting for AF to arrive, should be tomorrow, then I'm going to take soy next cycle. I'm excited lol!!

Metalhead · 01/11/2014 09:46

Hi ladies, I just got my +opk on CD16, the earliest ever! (I might even have had a positive yesterday, it was kind of borderline and I didn't have a CB to double check, so will count today). So the soy seems to be doing something! Smile

I'm only on cycle 7 post mc (took 4 cycles to get pregnant with that bean), but because I've had very long and erratic cycles in the past we've actually been ttc for about 15 months in total.

ProbablyEvil · 01/11/2014 07:33

Hi, don't know if it's of any use to anyone but as well as soy I took a vitamin b-complex to improve Progesterone in the LP. I usually suffered from lots of PMS symptoms during the tww but found they were dramatically reduced - I used to get really sore boobs that made me wince when DP gavel hug but this almost went completely. I think that using this to strengthen post O and Soy for pre O really helped. I was charting my BBT too and my temps became much more settled too.

Just reading everyone's stories. Best of luck to everyone and let's keep the 100% success rate of this thread going!

Hi Mama !! Big kisses hello Grin I'm super chuffed to hear about onelifeonechance's BFP - if you can hear me onelife CONGRATULATIONS!! Thanks

Mama Based on spinning's experience, I don't think the timing of your ovulation is bad, but what happens after isn't ideal and I don't think you want ovulation too early as egg may not be properly matured. If anything, you want a nice well rounded ovulation up to CD14 with lots of oestrogen and then hopefully, this will kick in a good dose of progesterone that will give a good home and a better LP! I read that those with no tube/ovulation issues who struggle with progesterone are prescribed Clomid to improve the first half of the cycle. Try taking it CD4-8 or CD5-9 and you should expect to ovulate 3-7 days later.

Good Luck!

spinningirl10 · 31/10/2014 20:56

New and ginger, sorry to hear you're both still waiting for sticky bfp's, it's a long slog for some some of us. I really hope we see a few bfp's on this thread soon Grin

spinningirl10 · 31/10/2014 20:55

Oh Mama, that is fantastic news!!! I'm so pleased for her, where does she hang out now, I'd love to Congratulate herGrin

NewEraNewMindset · 31/10/2014 20:08

I'm on cycle 18 now with 2 miscarriages this year, so sounds like we are all in good company.

GingerbreadHead · 31/10/2014 19:42

Ah I remember onelife from various threads, hurray!! There is hope indeed! I am on cycle 17ish too spinning, I've given up counting now. Just had to draw up a chart to remind myself what pills to take when and what the dosage is for each, on top of the soy! I'm going to be rattling with all of this lot!

Mam31 · 31/10/2014 19:13

Indeed spinning. But there is hope- onelife got her bfp this morning :)

spinningirl10 · 31/10/2014 18:36

It's tough isn't it Mama, I'm on cycle 17ish now, gets frustrating month after month. Fx we both get our bfp's soon Grin

Mam31 · 31/10/2014 16:00

Hello spinning, I'm doing ok thanks. Struggling on cycle 20 I think :/ willing to try something new, think I'll try SI when next cycle arrives. Worth a shot surely with those success rates!

Ginger excellent info thanks so much! Very informative and helps me to decide when I might take it. Hope your doing ok.

NewEraNewMindset · 31/10/2014 15:49

Oooooh I am loving the sound of taking it 5-9. If I could push OV back a couple of days that would be AMAZING!!!!

GingerbreadHead · 31/10/2014 15:37

Found it...apologies to those who have already read/ know all this!

Soya Isoflavones are derived from soya beans. They have been dubbed “the natural Clomid,”
As they work in pretty much an identical manner.
Just like Clomid; Soya Isoflavones work by tricking your body into thinking its low on oestrogen. Your body then kick starts production of FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone) followed by LH (Luteinizing hormone) Which are both necessary to release Healthy Eggs during ovulation.
FSH is released at the start of the menstrual cycle; it stimulates the growth of an immature egg into a fully matured egg. When the egg has matured your body then releases a surge of LH. LH is the hormone that tells the ovary to release the egg.

WHEN?
You take Soy Isoflavones, like Clomid, on either CD 1-5 , 2-6, 3-7 , 4-8 or 5-9.
If you take soy Isoflavones during the later time bracket, for example CD5-9, you shall strengthen the egg that has already started growing producing a healthier egg. The earlier in your cycle you take It, the higher your chance of releasing multiple eggs but these eggs will not be as mature as the eggs grown from taking Soya later.
A lot of women will choose the middle cycle (3 -7) allowing time for a strong and healthy egg to develop without erasing the chance of a second egg being developed and released.

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

DOSE?
The dose is really down to you but you should always use the lowest amount that works for you.
With Clomid the starting dose is 100mg. Soya Isoflavones are said to be half the strength of Clomid, so it makes sense for the starting dose to be 100mg.
The trouble with 100mg of soya is that the capsules tend to come as 40mg. So you have a choice of starting at 80mg.
Some women change the dose on different days. So they may start at 120mg for the first 3 days then give an extra boost for the last 2 days with 160mg.

As I have said though, use the lowest dose possible for yourself. If you ovulate using 120mg/day stick to that for a few cycles. GIVE IT A CHANCE. It is said that it takes 3months to get the full benefits of what you are taking. NEVER EXCEED 200mg/day.

OTHER BENEFITS?
The following potential health benefits are attributed to Isoflavones:
Reduce heart disease risk
Protect against prostate problems
improve bone health
Reduce cancer risk

SIDE EFFECTS?
As with any medication, taking Soya Isoflavones may cause side effects such as:
Nausea
Headaches
Dizziness
Hot flushes
Night sweats
Cramping
Diarrhoea
Lack of fertile cm
Thrush
Obviously the higher the dose you take the higher your chance of experiencing side effects.

DO NOT TAKE SOYA ISOFLAVONES WITHOUT CONSULTING A DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
Breast cancer, hepatic disease, prostate cancer, kidney disease, taking hormone treatments, thyroid disease, and allergies to soy, peanuts or other legumes.
Soy Isoflavones should not be taken while breastfeeding or pregnant.
Soy Isoflavones may interact with the following medications; androstenedione, antibiotics, clomiphene, DHEA, contraceptives and other female hormones, finasteride, raloxifene, red clover, tamoxifen, testosterone and other male hormones, thyroid hormones, and toremifene.
NOTE: Just like Clomid, Soya Isoflavones may not help some women at all!
Although research carried out on FF has shown that 77% of women taking Soya Isoflavones on the stated days at the stated doses, got there BFP on their first cycle taking them!

GingerbreadHead · 31/10/2014 15:34

Oh x posts New! They recommend 100mg as a minimum dose, but of course it is up to you! cd2-6 will potentially increase the amount of eggs rather than strengthen ones you produce on your own anyway, cd 3-7 will do a bit of both, and cd4-8 or 5-9 will improve the quality and strength of any egg you produce on your own, but not produce any more eggs....hope that makes sense! There was some really useful information floating around on a couple of threads....let me see if I can find it again.....

GingerbreadHead · 31/10/2014 15:31

Hi mam It could help bring your ov forward, I normally ov cd17 but got a +ve on cd15 this cycle after taking 100mg of soy days 4-8. That said, last cycle which was soyless I got a positive on cd14, which is pretty unusual for me, so who knows if it is or isn't the soy! I have done lots of reading up on it with regards to taking it with a regular cycle, and think as long as you don't over do it with the dose, and don't take it any earlier than days 3-7 then hopefully it can only do good things. And if it doesn't, well at least you have tried and can move on from it! After trying for 17months I figured it couldn't do any worse, and thought I would rather put up with it messing with my cycles than not even trying it at all! I guess same advice for you too NewEra, try just 100mg or 120mg each day (depends where you buy it from)on days 3-7 or 4-8.
Good luck! 1dpo here, let the count down commence.....
