Anyone TTC after vasectomy reversal op?

Hi! Newbie to the forums :) we have 2 children, 7 and 5 and hubby had a vasectomy almost 5 years ago.... Almost as soon as our youngest was born. He realised quickly after that it was a big mistake. We're speaking with our chosen surgeon in a week and booking the reversal, then it's all aboard the TTC train as soon as he's all healed up :) would love to have some buddies along the way :) it's going to be a fairly long journey I feel, our eldest took a year to conceive our youngest took 9 months with a early mc in between.

mum2some My DH is taking Wellman conception tabs as well. I've ready that a handful of Brazil nuts a day is supposed to be good too!
wanging Eeek, good luck! Erm, just make sure he rests. I got hubby to lie on the sofa for about 4 days in between a teeny potter about every so often. I would recommend him wearing pants ( like those speedo style!) if he's a boxer wearer as hubby has had pain and opened a wound a tiny bit when he wore boxers. We went and bought him some fetching pants to wear :) they don't look good but they give the much needed support! If he's given cocodamol as pain relief, get him to drink some orange juice during the day to make sure they don't bung him up, not another discomfort he'll want on top of sore balls!

Hiya....my OH is having his VR on 19/01/15.

Both nervous and really worried it won't work....any words of wisdom???

Mum2Some · 22/12/2014 19:52

Hi,
Good luck ttc, lets hope 2015 is a great year for baby making!
My dh has only started taking vitamins a month ago because I was getting so frustrated that this one small thing could make all the difference so I'm hoping that the vitamins will give us a bfp in feb, just before our 1 yr vr anniversary. He's taking vit c and zinc, wellman conception multi vit, l'arginine and l'carnitine. Is your dh taking anything?
Have a lovely Christmas x

spamanderson · 22/12/2014 19:24

Hi mum2some
Sorry it's not resulted in pregnancy yet but the fact that sperm are getting through is great. Is your DH doing anything to improve his sperm count and motility? DH was convinced we'd get a BFP by April next year... Talk about putting pressure on it! We've started TTC-ing now as he had his op 2.5 weeks ago. Chances are only one testicle is working as one was damaged so fingers crossed that that one is producing super sperm! I have a list of names too :/ really hope we get to use them!
Good luck for TTC-ing, 2015 will hopefully be an amazing year for us all :)

Hi,
My dh had a vr with Duncan Harriss in March and we are still ttc. There is also a secret facebook group for ttc after a vr which is full of lovely supportive ladies who have kept me sane over the last few months lol! I can add you if you are interested in joining.
AF came today which is so disappointing as i was really hoping for a christmas bfp. We had our SA done after 6 months and it was not great. Low count, low motility and 100% asa's, but I won't give up hope that we will have our baby, have chosen names already!
Good luck to all of you, lets hope we all get our bfps in 2015 x

Thank slkk not entirely sure why they did it, it was heart breaking as you can imagine :( fingers crossed hubby's reversal has gone well :)

Sorry you got messed around by ss, spa. That's really cruel to let you almost get to panel. Good luck all of you with the though and I really hope you get your Christmas miracles xx

spamanderson · 16/12/2014 12:32

You never know! I was convinced there was something wrong with me and that I couldn't get pregnant at all when I got my first BFP so miracles can happen! Just been thinking, if I had to get hubby to agree to TTC, we'd never have had children, thank goodness dd1 came along as a surprise!

mrsstickll · 16/12/2014 12:26

It's my fertile time too, maybe there will be some Christmas miracles and we will both get bfp, hehe I can dream

spamanderson · 16/12/2014 12:18

Ours didn't really say anything about the trying stuff, just the recovery stuff. I did read about dead sperm blocking tubes and stuff so that will hopefully be convincing enough for hubby! I'm on my most fertile period from Thursday so I need to get it every day then if he can manage it!

mrsstickll · 16/12/2014 12:09

The surgeon said we need to dtd regularly to keep the tubes clear from blockages, so you'll have to get seducing hubby on friday.
Congratulations slkk I always loved the idea of adoption but the people I know have been unsuccessful due to age and all sorts of unimportant factors, makes it very daunting so happy you got your happy ending

spamanderson · 16/12/2014 11:08

Ha ha bet DH is happy now then mrs. Mine would be happy to go another month I reckon! He says he's been having naughty dreams though which is unusual for him so he's thinking maybe his hormone levels have returned to normal because of the reversal... Who knows!
That's a shame sikk but great that you now have an adopted LO. We went through the adoption process and were turned away shortly before our final visit before panel..... It took them about 8 months to decide our bio children are too young (they're 7 and 5 and were 6 and 4 when we started the process!) it's a bloody tough process isn't it! This is pretty much our last chance as we wouldn't be able to adopt for several years and there's no way we can afford a donor and ivf :(

Dtd not std!

slkk · 15/12/2014 21:45

Good luck everyone. My dh had his reversal after about 8 years. Sadly he didn't rest and returned to work after 2 days. Not sure we quite managed 2 weeks before std either... anyway sperm count zero :( . However happy ending as we have beautiful adopted child now and life is sweet. Just try and really follow advice and if it's not a success know there are other paths to take..

mrsstickll · 15/12/2014 21:28

I'm sure I replied to this! How are you getting on? We DTD! Xmas Blush everything was fine apparently it didn't hurt or anything.

spamanderson · 10/12/2014 12:05

Ha ha! Mines a lazy git so normally doesnt do anything round the house but he feels bad that I'm doing everything for him and emptying the bins etc (his job ha ha) Eeek he's brave isn't he! Hubby isn't looking forward to DTD the first time as he's worried he's plumbed up wrong snigger. Like he thinks it'll come out the wrong way or something..... Men huh!

mrsstickll · 10/12/2014 11:41

We are good, DH is already wanting to start trying but I'm being firm, he has been in a bit of trouble for trying to clean up (I'm obviously not up to his standards lol!). Gosh they've been through a lot for this haven't they, we did watch a 5 min video of a VR operation of youtube! The wounds don't look too bad, we;ve been putting arnica gel on. He will be back at work on Friday, he doesn't do a strenuous job so he's determinded he's going back, he doesn't do very well doing nothing.

spamanderson · 10/12/2014 11:15

Hiya! I'm not bad thank you and you? Hubby is doing ok, more pain from the side where they had to pull lots of tube down but seems to be getting better. He's enjoying being waited on for sure! Having a bit of trouble sleeping as well. Poor dogs are put out as they're very bouncy so obv hubby doesn't dare have them in the same room! He's had a potter to the school today to watch dd2s christmas play, then a little jaunt round sainsburys, just made himself a sarnie and now he's sitting down for the rest of the day! He's a boxers man but we just had to go buy him some lovely briefs ha ha! They're definitely more supportive than the boxers were and they give me a good giggle! How's your hubby feeling now? Only 8 days left before you're allowed to pounce on him ha ha! 9 days for us :) roll on the 19th! Are his wounds healing up ok? Is he going to go back to work after the week off or are you keeping him home longer? DH seems to be happ pu to go back on Monday but I've told him if there's any swelling or pain, he's not going back and risking the operation!

mrsstickll · 09/12/2014 21:14

Hi Spam how's you and the hubby, hubby has had quite a lot of pain but it has calmed down now. I guess we just have to wait now boo. Did you have a good birthday?

spamanderson · 06/12/2014 20:28

How's Mr doing now mrsstickll? dH was rather impatient to leave too, he was ready to leave less than 2 hours after :/ but he did have the spinal so didn't have any grogginess etc. yes we spoke to the surgeon and he said that smaller one (that he thought probably didn't work) was the easiest one he's ever done, said that seeing the sperm there is the best result you can hope for in the operation but the larger side was a bad one. When they did the original op, he'd scarred him all the way down almos the testicle itself :/ he had to cut a few inches of tube out and apparently split the different tube that comes from the teste and attach it to that instead. He said he's not sure what the outcome of that will be but only time will tell.
Thanks husband it's lovely to hear you had a positive result :) Hubby us resting, he's pottered about a bit today against my advice! Short gentle walk round sainsburys and made the kids some sarnies. I've told him I'm quite happy for him to lie on the sofa for the next week, in fact I would rather he did just lie down and let it all heal up nicely!
It's my birthday tomorrow... 29 years old :/ I'd ideally love to get my BFP before I turn 30 so here's hoping!
mrs I worried that I couldn't get pregnant, long story, but I had tests started just before my 21st birthday to check my ovulation etc, I fell pregnant on my 21st birthday. If you have any concerns, i would mention it to your GP and see if they'd mind sending you for a blood test to check your hormone levels so at least it will give you a little peace of mind :)

Yes was the same here. No point in saying try and relax because you won't! Distraction is good though. And I suspect success is quite common but rarely mentioned- my lovely female GP nearly fell off her chair when I reported my second pregnancy, though since then she has mentioned a couple of times other successes she has heard of since. Let us know how you get on!

mrsstickll · 05/12/2014 22:27

Thank you, that makes me feel better, I did feel a bit worried that as I've never been pregnant I don't even know if I'm capable, so many variables I know I've jsut got to be patient but it is not one of my strong points.

husbanddoestheironing · 05/12/2014 22:16

I know, I was the same! It's the uncertainty I guess, if someone could say for sure 'yes it will happen but it will take 3 years' you could go with that much more easily, but the not knowing unhinged me at times. The other thing I did learn back then after trawling through medical research papers on the topic was that research done did suggest the younger the female (ie 20s or early-mid 30s) generally the better the chances of conceiving after reversal. Surgical techniques have improved since back then I am sure as well.

mrsstickll · 05/12/2014 22:08

Thank you for the advice, will definitely make sure he rests. Congratulations on your sucess and nice to hear a happy VR story so many negative on the internet but I just can't help googling!

husbanddoestheironing · 05/12/2014 21:58

Good luck to you all! Definitely recommend the resting for a week or so after. We weren't given that info 10 yrs back when DH had his reversal and I only found out a year later when he was found to have a low and sporadic sperm count. Told it was prob due to scarring in the tubes, so resting would have helped prevent this post op. Another year later we got lucky anyway despite this, but it was an emotionally painful couple of years, and we had given up hope really. To our complete and absolute amazement 3 more years later we got lucky again (figured it was a one-off miracle) Fingers crossed that it happens for you all too Flowers
