Anyone TTC after vasectomy reversal op?

Hi! Newbie to the forums :) we have 2 children, 7 and 5 and hubby had a vasectomy almost 5 years ago.... Almost as soon as our youngest was born. He realised quickly after that it was a big mistake. We're speaking with our chosen surgeon in a week and booking the reversal, then it's all aboard the TTC train as soon as he's all healed up :) would love to have some buddies along the way :) it's going to be a fairly long journey I feel, our eldest took a year to conceive our youngest took 9 months with a early mc in between.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Blooming thing was playing tricks on me :( I've got my regular spot explosion on my chin, joy, wonderful periods, I always get them about day 10 and they hang around for a good week or 2 :( it's not fair I tell ya! Yeah I shall be on the January bus with you. My period is apparently due 4th/5th January. Hubby will be hopefully healed up by my fertile time in December. Just hit to blooming well hope the operation goes smoothly this time and it all works afterwards. Oh god, what if it's not successful?! We certainly can't afford to pay this out then fork out for ivf etc!
We're good thanks :) hubby is feeling more like himself again, still a bit tired but better :) we now have the stress of fixing the windscreen before the MOT is due on the car in a week or so. Seriously, this seems to happen every year! A chip we didnt know about, always in that dark edge on the glass, turns into a proper windscreen ruining crack, just before the MOT! Hubby reminded me he has next Wednesday off work, it's our anniversary on Tuesday but he couldn't get that off! 9 years! That's almost a 3rd of my life! Shocking! In 10 years I'll be saying 'omg we've been together half my life' that will be really weird!
How are you and hubby getting on? Is he looking forward to getting his op done?
It'd be so cool if both the ops go perfectly and we get bfps at the same time :)

Hi how are you and the hubby doing? Have you decided to try for an earlier appointment? If not looks like we can join the January bus together lol! Our bodies really are cruel I've taken a prgnancy test before, after AF was really late and I'm a 28 day every cycle kind of girl, no chance of it being positive but I still was dissapointed when it was negative.

spamanderson · 17/11/2014 12:04

I couldn't wait, so I called the hospital and they confirmed they've carried the payment over. The receptionists remembered him the poor thing. Hubby did thoroughly enjoy being waited on hand and foot Friday and Saturday and most of yesterday. I have the worst beside manner so that served as practice for me at least ha ha! He's thinking about asking the hospital if they can book him in any earlier but I think he needs the rest. That whole fiasco has taken it out of both of us :(

Poor thing still isn't quite right this morning but he's had to go back to work. He's extra miserable as obviously he thought he was getting this week off work. I've been exhausted now for a couple of weeks, like beyond tired, so bad I've been going to bed by 8 at night, last night I was in bed by 20 past 6, been feeling nauseas in the mornings too so in the back of my mind my head has been nagging at me telling me maybe it's fate telling me that his vasectomy has fixed itself.... I know it's stupid but my hormones are playing with me at the moment. I did do a cheapy test this morning and a faint line came up in the first 2 minutes but disappeared. I think it's just a dodgy test as it's certainly not a positive but that hasn't helped my emotional state :/ oh well, 2 weeks and 4 days and he'll hopefully be out of surgery and the 2 week rest begins :/ I'm panicking now that maybe they'll still charge us for last Friday even though they didn't do anything to him other that anaesthetise him?

mrsstickll · 15/11/2014 10:33

Oh no, thank god he's ok Flowers. I can't imagine how frustrated he feels bless him, and you of course, the wait is bad enough but I think you mentally prepare yourself for it to happen at a certain time. Very brave of him to be awake next time. Hopefully you can spend the weekend looking after each other x

spamanderson · 14/11/2014 16:23

Well.... Bad news :( they took him down and about 40 minutes later the surgeon came through and said they couldn't proceed. My poor heart started racing and I felt all my colour disappear. They'd got him sedated, tubed him and were about to start and he projectile vomited.... A lot. He got everyone apparently! They think he has a hiatus hernia which causes the fluid to stay there and obviously came up when he laid down. It explains why he gets acid reflux etc a lot. Thank goodness he is ok, I was so upset thinking he was unwell. He's been booked in again for 3 weeks time and will likely have to be awake and do an epidural next time! He's at home now feeling rather frustrated and pissed off to be fair. 3 more weeks to wait now and 5 weeks until we try. My birthday shall be spent caring for my invalid husband ha ha!

Thank you :D
Ha ha, well if you don't ask you don't get ;) I don't blame him for trying his luck he he!
No he hasn't taken arnica tablets as I couldn't find any but I did find the cream so I'm hoping that's going to help. He made the mistake of watching a video on YouTube or something of a vasectomy reversal op... He's now giving me puppy dog eyes and sprinkling his bottom lip out at me! He should have listened to me 5 years ago when I told him not to get it done in the first place!

mrsstickll · 13/11/2014 19:53

I think we posted at nearly the same time lol. Thank god he's all better and ready for tomorrow, at least he can look forward to you nursing him better mines asked if I could get a nurses outfit! He's not that lucky lol. Has he been taking arnica tablets?

mrsstickll · 13/11/2014 19:49

Good luck for tomorrow spam, will be thinking of you. x

spamanderson · 13/11/2014 19:47

Hiya!
I'm getting so damn excited! Hubby is a bit nervous understandably. Thankfully he's feeling all better now. I think it was a migraine by the sounds of it, he's only ever had a couple, I tend to have one a week normally and it did sound very much like one. He was back in the office today and now has 10 days off to veg on the sofa and be waited on, he's very much looking forward to that ha ha! Managed to get the dogs bathed yesterday as I can't do it on my own and I'm sure he'll be using pain as an excuse to not do anything round the house for a few weeks!
It's going to be so strange tomorrow as I've never seen him 'vulnerable' before, he's a bit worried about them putting the drip in and stuff so I'm going to ask if I can stay with him while they send him off. I predict I will cry... A lot! I was blahhing at Home & Away today.... Bloomin hormones!

I know its such a lot of money, we moved house this year too so its been an expensive year, we've been saving frantically. Good new you know you are ovulating, I was thinking its never mentioned the problems birth control can have later when you decide you do want a baby, they really should tell people. I cant remember what life was like when I was on the pill but I suspect I was still a b lol! I have been known to cry if I look in the cupboard and find we are out of whatever I was after, I use a period tracker more for DH to see when I am going to be a nightmare than anything else. Hopefully your hubby just has a 24 hour thing, when kids are back at school its a nighmare with bugs. Its amazing you will get to start before xmas, what a fantastic xmas present, think January will be the first "real" month for us, I'm sure before then I will relent and give in to fertility apps, tracking, temping and any other ideas mumsnet gives me it really has been an eye opener joining this site!

spamanderson · 11/11/2014 20:44

Thank you!
I know! It's soooo blooming close! My bank account is going to look very empty when that payment goes out on Friday :/ oh this coming off the pill lark isn't much fun! I only took it to even out my hormones and now I've been off it a while, I'm even more hormonal than I was before I started taking it! To give you an idea of how bad it is.... On the way to Birmingham I burst into tears... What about you ask? My hair straighteners. Seriously. I use them like once a month max, they hadn't broken or anything, I was just thinking about them to remember packing them and I burst into tears. Shortly after, I started laughing my head off at how ridiculous it was that I was crying about them. I mean wtf?! Hubby found it quite amusing! All I can think is, if it goes well and I do get pregnant again, I am going to be a nightmare if I'm this emotional already :/ and I'm normally such a delight when I'm pregnant ha ha (think Godzilla, bad tempered, people see me and run screaming he he).
Poor hubby was sent home from work today with sickness :/ thankfully his manager and the director are both really supportive and understand he needs to be tip top before his op so they sent him home to fight whatever it is, off. Just hope it's gone by Friday as we seriously don't want to be postponing this op! I just want it to be done and healed already so we can get down to business ha ha! I need my baby (or twins, you know, I wouldn't complain ha ha!)
Eeek in a week or 2 you'll be going just as mad as me i reckon! I'm obsessed with my fertility app already :/ it's quite cool actually as if I hadnt, I wouldn't have had any idea I ovulated so late in my cycle!

All good here, congratulations on your gold and bronze if you ever have too much cake send it my way lol. It's soon for you now, I feel like you're me but three weeks ahead lol. Good news you might be able to get started this month, sounds like you've managed to come through the otherside of coming off the pill! I'm trying not to think about ov just yest think I'm obsessing as it is x

spamanderson · 10/11/2014 18:06

Hi all! How is everyone? Well I'm back from Birmingham and I won Gold and Bronze on my 2 entries so I'm feeling pretty chuffed :) hubby has his op on Friday!!! We are so excited! I'm now on day 2 of my cycle and last month I didn't ovulate until around day 19 so if we wait the 2 weeks before we DTD, we might just catch my fertile days just in time to properly start trying this month :D eeeek I'm so excited!!

mrsstickll · 05/11/2014 16:31

Good luck for your cake competition, not long to wait for the op now! So close the wait is almost unbearable lol x

spamanderson · 04/11/2014 23:25

Hi ladies! Hubby had his pre op today :) all went well and we're all set for the 14th! Yippee! Just got my cake competition this week, we're heading to Bormingham in Thursday for 3 nights, then I can concentrate on this! So excited!

OP posts:
spamanderson · 30/10/2014 09:57

Yeah same here and boy us hubby going to milk it! Told him when he gets home on the Friday he is to lie on the sofa and not move again until he has to go back to work on the 24th so that's nearly 10 days I'll end up waiting on him! He's looking forward to that ha ha! I don't blame him though, it's going to be sore!

OP posts:
mrsstickll · 29/10/2014 19:53

Hubby is 36, we are also trying to have a better diet, exercise more etc, anything to improve chances a little bit. Doctor said most important thing was recovery and to do as little as possible to ensure the tubes mend. Going to make sure those tubes are well and truly healed! X

spamanderson · 29/10/2014 19:31

Ha ha, yeah I reckon fate will have the surgeons work and scarring undone in no time o_0 my goodness people do say strange stuff sometimes don't they! He wasn't too either way if you know what I mean. He said that 5 years is the point where it gets difficult, then when I said the ends were burnt rather than tied, that made him a little more sceptical but once he had a feel around he was tonnes more positive as he could feel what felt like a tiny bit if scarring and plenty of tubing there to reconnect once the damage is removed. He said it's 50-60% in resulting in a pregnancy but as I've conceived naturally before I think that ours our chances up! plus I imagine (correctly or not, I don't know) I would imagine that a lot of couples opting for the reversal are more likely to be in their later years whereas you and I are still in our 20s. How old is your hubby if you don't mind me asking? Mine is 38 so on the older side but fingers crossed the improved diet, the 'fertility spray', supplements etc will give a helping hand so to speak :)

OP posts:
mrsstickll · 29/10/2014 19:24

He did seem quite positive especially when we mentioned it had been 5 years, he seemed to think that was no time at all compared to some. He did talk about options if it wasn't successful but to be honest I'm sort of blocking that out unless it actually comes to that. Did your surgeon give the impression that you have a better chance with it only being 5 years?
My friend has also told me to leave it to fate, I'm not sure I trust fate with the job of reconnecting Hubbys tubes lol, its such a ridiculous thing to say!
I can't wait and now it's so close I feel like I'm getting ahead of myself looking forward not only to the op but then to recovery and then to hopefully finding out things are working again xx

spamanderson · 29/10/2014 16:42

Oh dear, yes it always seems to be that everyone else gets pregnant so easy, people only trying for a month or so, people getting pregnant after a missed pill etc so I think everyone thinks making a baby is 'easy'. I'm quite fortunate in a Way as I knew conceiving wouldn't be spectacularly easy as my mum had a hard time conceiving me. I'm also very lucky to have 2 children healthy children, especially as it appears that hubby likely only had 1 working testicle in the first place! A friend, mum and hubby keep saying I'll be preg in a couple of months and as much as I he that's the case, I wish they wouldn't say it as I know it couple take months, it could take years, especially once you consider our hubbies are likely to have reduced sperm count and motility once their bits and pieces are all working again. You never know though, we could be lucky ones who fall early but I think we're both aware that it's Certainly not a 'given'.
How was your surgeon when you met him? Did he seem positive about the outcome? I cannot wait, I am counting down the days!

Sorry to hear about your childhood but sounds promising he's giving you his support now! I love the sound of all your pets we have 2 dogs hubby wouldn't let me have anymore but I'd have a houseful can't resist a sob story or rescue case I have to not look anymore. I know I'm glad I've found someone in the same boat as my previous post friends don't seem to understand the situation I think people just think because they want a child it will automatically happen x

mrsstickll · 28/10/2014 19:22

In fact the only person I've told is my best friend who practically told me I was being ridiculous worrying about TTC and everyone she knows got pregnant straight away. Wish id kept it to myself lol x

spamanderson · 28/10/2014 18:54

Oh dear, my dad is/was the same. His behaviour throughout my childhood is why we couldn't adopt (no sexual abuse or anything like that, but I didn't have a great childhood) he didn't think we should adopt or have another child, BUT I think he is coming to the realisation that he wasn't the best dad and has given us £1k towards the reversal op which is a massive massive thing for him and us. He always preferred the dog to me and mum and even now he treats his gun dog better than he does my mum, I think some people are just like it. I'm surprised a mum can feel like that though as being pregnant and having our own child is just something our bodies want to do. I crave being pregnant, I crave more things to love, hence when hubby wouldn't give me another child we ended up with a hamster, 2 rabbits, 9 chickens, 2 dogs, a kitten, 2 rats and 6 giant snails :/ I keep telling him it would have been a lot cheaper to just give me the 3rd child in the first place ;)
It's so weird that we seem quite similar as I'm an only child too! Same age, hubbies had vasectomies done about the same time, having the reversal about the same time and both only children!

OP posts:
mrsstickll · 27/10/2014 20:56

No one from either of our family knows, I'm an only child and my mum's is of the opinion I have a ready made family why would I need to have kids of my own, it does upset me, she also treats the dogs like grandchildren buying them treats lol she always did like the dog more than me as a child.
Cake competition sounds like a good time., lots to look forward to in November. Xx
