Anyone TTC after vasectomy reversal op?

Hi! Newbie to the forums :) we have 2 children, 7 and 5 and hubby had a vasectomy almost 5 years ago.... Almost as soon as our youngest was born. He realised quickly after that it was a big mistake. We're speaking with our chosen surgeon in a week and booking the reversal, then it's all aboard the TTC train as soon as he's all healed up :) would love to have some buddies along the way :) it's going to be a fairly long journey I feel, our eldest took a year to conceive our youngest took 9 months with a early mc in between.

Ooh thank god everything went ok. Sounds good that there was sperm there! Just a waiting game now Hmm. Have you spoken to the surgeon again? He has been in quite a bit a pain but we are home now so he can relax properly, I've never seen him so eager he was asking everyone he saw when he could leave. Hubby is a consultant so no sick note. He's booked a week off but doesn't do anything strenuous at work so I think he'll be ok. Hope you are both ok.

spamanderson · 05/12/2014 11:47

He's out :) he's now eating lunch. He was sick in theatre again but luckily as he was awake, he didn't choke. The damage on one side was really bad as he'd scarred right down to the testicle itself :/ he still managed to cut and reattach. No sperm in that testicle but the smaller one he said didn't work had little scarring, reattached perfectly and even had sperm there :D waiting to speak the surgeon and then discuss discharge later today :) fingers crossed we can start trying in 2 weeks :)
How's hubby doing today? Has he got a sick note for work? How long did they say he needs off? We were told 1 week but now for a sick note they'll sign him off for 2 weeks! His boss won't be impressed this close to Christmas!

Aww poor Mr mrsstickll! Glad he's ok now. It is horrid coming round from anaesthetic isn't it :( that sounds good! Sounds like the surgeon was quite positive then! Thank you, fingers crossed it all goes well for us tomorrow too :D hubby's getting a tad nervous now I think! Eek 2 weeks and we'll both officially be able to TTC :D
Hope hubby sleeps ok tonight and isn't in too much pain.

Thanks, its all done now! He was gone for 2 hours, I did start to panick a bit becuase they only said he would be an hour and a half. When he came back he kept asking the same questions over and over and apparently he woke up crying bless him. The doctor came round a little while ago and said the operation went well, that there was only a little scar tissue and it was pretty straight forward re-attaching the tubes. Hope all goes well for you tomorrow!

spamanderson · 04/12/2014 10:35

Eeek, good luck today :)
I don't know, I don't think we'll find out until tomorrow when the surgeon comes to see us. I think we both think the spinal is the best option so going to speak with the Dr tomorrow and see if he agrees. I d rather he wasn't put right out again, he was so groggy for days afterwards, took him several days to get it out of his system :(

mrsstickll · 03/12/2014 22:54

We don't have to check in until dinner time. Yes he has to stay overnight but I'm staying there too. Do you know yet how they are going to deal with your hubby, are they doing the spinal? X

spamanderson · 03/12/2014 22:52

Thank you smiling. So pleased your DPs op was successful :) I definitely have hope all goes well with ours (I say ours like its me having it done ha ha) on Friday and Mr mrsstickll 's tomorrow :D

Thank you, so sorry to hear about your loss. Congratulations it's so good to hear, I feel like I've read that many negative stories I've got all worried x

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 03/12/2014 22:36

Thank you spam but the point of my post was to wish you all luck and give you a positive story.

it was a horrible experience but im now pregnant and everything is looking good so reversals are successful Smile

spamanderson · 03/12/2014 22:13

Oh I'm sorry :(

OP posts:
smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 03/12/2014 21:55

It had been 4 years.

My miscarriage was most likely due to my bicornuate uterus and was a second trimester loss so nothing to do with the reversal.

spamanderson · 03/12/2014 21:45

Eek it's so exciting isn't it! Do you have to leave bright and early in the morning? Does DH have to stay overnight?
Sorry to hear of your loss smiling. Our surgeon told us about increased risk of early MC which did get me a bit worried :( so pleased to hear you're doing well and expecting a little one! May I ask how long your DP/DH had had his vasectomy done before he had the reversal?

Hi, I just want to wish you luck, my dp had a vasectomy reversal last November, I concieved in january but sadly miscarried then concieved again in june and am now 24 weeks pregnant.

mrsstickll · 03/12/2014 20:00

Thank you, all very real now! I was looking at a surgeon that does micro surgery specialising in vasectomy reversals that have failed the first time but like you say it's not like we can afford it anyway lol. I've just turned down a new job in the hope that this will work and in the near future I'll get pregnant fingers crossed. You all ready? X

spamanderson · 03/12/2014 11:06

Good luck to you both for the op tomorrow :D

OP posts:
spamanderson · 02/12/2014 08:01

Yes same here, hubby is worried more about the op, I'm more worried about it not working :( don't know what we'll do if it doesn't work. Not like you just have £2.5k lying around to have another try is it :( I'm so so desperate for baby number 3 :( I figure as long as something is getting through, even if numbers are terribly low, at least we can work with it :)

OP posts:
mrsstickll · 01/12/2014 22:26

Hubby is more nervous it won't work than the actual op I think. I hope everything goes perfect for you this time. You're so lucky it'll be my fertile time while hubby is recovering so then it won't be until January for me boo. Christmas conception would be a nice present for you. Am already nervous for the spearmint test in three months lol xx

spamanderson · 01/12/2014 10:17

Not long now!! 3 days! Are you getting excited or nervous? Hubby us getting a bit nervous now as we're not sure how they're going to deal with him. They're ither going to tube him and knock him out or give him a spinal. I'm being selfish but I hope he goes for the spinal but he's worried about side effects etc. I have 2 cakes to bake and decorate by Friday but I just can't concentrate! I just want it to be Friday already :(
I've started using a new app and it shows my fertile period this month is over Christmas :) a Christmas conception would be awesome :)

spamanderson · 28/11/2014 23:00

:( I'd seriously lose my mind without my phone! I got my positive opk yesterday yippee! Day bloomin 19! Not had any of the other ovulation signs though so I'm hoping I have actually ovulated! It's not long now but it feels like forever doesn't it! How's your hubby holding up? Getting nervous?

OP posts:
mrsstickll · 28/11/2014 22:02

Not found it but AF found me this week so at least I know where I am again. Its so close now, I've realised I am not a patient person at all. Maybe your cycles just havent returned to normal yet after BC? xx

spamanderson · 26/11/2014 18:20

Did you find your phone? Hubby had his pre op blood test AGAIN today ha ha. Fingers crossed that goes ok and this time in 9 days, there'll be a fixed hubby relaxing on the sofa! Not long now is it! I've been doing my temp and using a fertility app and now having a panic that I'm not ovulating. Day 18 so far and nothing :( it'll be just our luck that hubby gets fixed, then it turns out I'm infertile now or something :/

OP posts:
mrsstickll · 20/11/2014 14:13

I cant find it, I'll just have to wait and see when AF arrives, urgh! Its so hard not to get your hopes up, I spent most of my adult life thinking getting pregnant would be the worst thing that could happen and now its all I want. I will have a visit to to the January bus, I am a obsessive lurker of the November bus, it cheers me up when some one gets a BFP! Grin

spamanderson · 20/11/2014 12:51

I've just started a January bus in case there's any others like us who can't start TTC-ing until December :)

OP posts:
spamanderson · 19/11/2014 22:16

Oh no! Stupid question but do you have any idea where you lost it? I left mine in the car when we were in Birmingham and had such a panic, convinced I'd lost it :( How did we manage without phones, tablets and the Internet?! I am addicted to my gadgets!
Yep same here, 2 weeks for us, unless he's still sore in any way of course! He will be resting on the sofa for the week and if he's not right after that week, I will be making him get to the drs and get signed off another week! £2.5k is just too much money to risk wasting if a week at work is the difference between things healing right and not.
I keep trying not to get my hopes up but as I've wanted another for so long, I have names lined up, boys and girls middle names are set in stone then there a couple of each first names that we love. I know we might not be lucky enough to get pregnant again but I can't stop myself from hoping :(

OP posts:
mrsstickll · 19/11/2014 11:31

We were really excited but now its getting closer I think he has started to think about what if it doesn't work and then he thinks he will be letting me down, I'm more of a don't think about it until it happens kind of person. We'll just do the best job of making sure those tubes heal, hubby has hinted we could DTD before the 2 weeks are up and I know someone mentioned that they have done that but I don't want to risk putting extra pressure on them when they arent fully healed. I've lost my phone so I have no idea whats happening with my cycle, I'm gutted I've lost all that information its ridiculous my phone knows me better than I know myself
