Hi Trumadison and LeeAlison!

No free goes for me I'm afraid stubborn!

Just back from on/gyn appt and was told that we were rejected for IVF on NHS as the criteria has now changed. I am not surprised this has happened. The consultant told us frankly that it is to do with cost cutting. He seemed quite shocked but I knew it would happen and that's why I went ahead with a private cycle so I'm not devastated as I would have been if I hadn't sorted a plan B.

He was pleased that we have a frozen embryo .

I asked if there was anything available like Clomid that didn't have the bad side effects that I could use if transfer didn't work and he didn't suggest any drugs but said we could try ovarian drilling.

So next step is to call the clinic and arrange FET. Smile

Hello everyone...I've been reading this thread as I myself am 45...I already have 4 beautiful children...3 of which would be classed as young adults...my dp is younger than me with no children... and would dearly love 1 of our own...I'm a bit worried I'm getting too old to conceive naturally...but we did the ovk a little over 2weeks ago...and he travelled back from work to dtd :) as he works away and we only see each other at the weekends...so I'm 15 dpo...no sign of af as yet...did the poas test but no 2lines...not really any symptoms just now...only terrible backache last week...heartburn over past couple of days ( probably the pizza!!) If not this month then we are all ready for the ovk next month...the trying is fun :)

stubbornstains · 23/10/2014 09:51

annie, I'm so glad that you've managed to feel better about everything...

Looks like you have 2 more free (or nearly free?) chances at least...xxx

(I think pianos are very easy to get hold of....and very difficult to get rid of!! Smile).

That's great that you've got a scan date tranquility! It sounds like everything is going well so far?

Welcome LeeAison! If you don't try, you don't get...Smile. 48 year old women do have healthy babies. I think you may have to brace yourself for a difficult journey, though, and try and take a philosophical attitude....

I went to the doctor's yesterday- it was good to tell her the news! By her calculations, I'm 8weeks 4 today, rather than 8 weeks. Great, I've just reduced this horrible, interminable wait by half a week!

(I'm also really sad and anxious today, because a friend has just suffered a loss, but I started a new thread in pregnancy rather than lay it on you all Sad).

LeeAison · 23/10/2014 08:46

Hello all,
This is my first post, please be kind.

I'm 47 and will be 48 in the new year. Because of the curveballs life chucks at you I've only naively been trying to conceive this year. I'm giving it one more month then will stop because I'm afraid. I've read so many scare stories I really am terrified I won't have a healthy baby (maybe this fear is stopping me from conceiving?).

I've discussed with my family and the next option would be adoption but obviously I would love the miracle to happen in the next month.

Tranquilitybaby · 23/10/2014 07:23

Onwards and upwards annie, glad you're staying on here. Go do some lovely things just for you.

Oh no ghost so sorry.

I've got a week until my early scan at EPU. With it being half term, it's going to be hard to conceal the nerves from the children but glad they're home for the distraction.

Gingerbreadlady1 · 22/10/2014 22:33

Yay, so glad you're staying. I prepared a soft cup with a little concieve plus and left it in for pretty much the 12 hours. A piano eh? Can you play or are you going to learn?

ghost so sorry, it's shit. You really do put the work in too!

OP posts:
AnnieHoo · 22/10/2014 22:09

Sorry ghost Sad, it's crap eh? This means we'll be cycle buddies this month.

Ok I'll stay! I'm over it now, bored of moping around Smile.

Right a puppy. I would LOVE one but I've already got my wee schnauzer and he would go absolutely bonkers with jealousy!!!

I'm going to work on spoiling myself and keeping busy with lovely creative stuff. I told DH I want a piano as compensation for a baby!

I can do the Softcups thing. I'll dig 'em out. I did try them a few times but I'll stick with it this month.

Thanks for being so lovely xx

stubbornstains · 22/10/2014 20:36

Boo ghost. That's rubbish Sad

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 22/10/2014 20:33

Just a quick report. A.F has arrived, so I'm out for this month.

Gingerbreadlady1 · 22/10/2014 13:12

It was called quinagolide but is only of use if your prolactin is high, mine was around 900 before meds. Basically you're body already thinks you're preg so affects hormones. They should have sorted that before prescribing me clomid etc, bit of an over sight I think,

Gingerbreadlady1 · 22/10/2014 13:10

Hey annie, please don't leave us unless you want to, we'd miss you. And I want to see you get your bfp. The month I got my bfp was the month I got my puppy so I really wasn't thinking about it (I know, I know, bloody annoying). Therefore I prescribe a puppy. Wasn't really doing anything prop but was occasionally taking pregnacare,Maca, royal jelly (idea courtesy of you). Wasn't taking prog as it was my first month on prolactin meds on full dose (to lower it) and needed base readings. We only dtd twice, on day of opk & next and I used soft cups.

I think the soft cups may be the secret weapon as in my last 3 ttc months, using them, I got 2 bfp's.

AnnieHoo · 22/10/2014 11:51

Oh And thank you too if course ginger!i meant to ask, as well as the progesterone cream, what was the medication you were prescribed before you got your BFP? I think I'll ask about it tomorrow xx

AnnieHoo · 22/10/2014 11:48

Thank you Fankle for delurking and thanks Ghost and Hexy and tranquility.

Yes I have a meeting with Ob/gyn tomorrow to talk about my NHS cycle of IVF which is very good timing! I think I'll go for that and keep my frozen one as back up if that fresh cycle doesn't work. Then I've got to call it quits as enough is enough for my body and our lives. DH still has faith that we can conceive naturally and don't need IVF. I don't think he can face going through it all again.

I'll speak to Ob/gyn about other options if the wait is going to be long. Maybe I should go for the embryo transfer first.

I shouldn't really be on here as I belong in the infertility section these days! hexy I should really go to that website you recommended. I just can't face admitting I'm in the IVF cyclers camp.

God it's 2 years since my first mmc when I joined mn and I've met so many lovely lovely ladies on these threads who have gone on to get their BFPs. There is hope for all of us Xxx

Fankletastic · 22/10/2014 07:45

Annie so so sorry it hasn't worked for you. This time. Would you give it another go? Or is it too early to think about it right now? I'm gutted for you. After reading about the recent old bird success, I just thought you'd be next.

As the others have said, take some time out and be kind and gentle to yourself.

I'm not posting on here much but lurk from time to time. I'm cheering you all on...new old birds too!!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 21/10/2014 23:35

Oh Annie. I'm so sorry. I will say. I admire your strength bravery warmth and courage.
Love and thoughts.
Ghost. xx

HexyQueen · 21/10/2014 18:29

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that Annie. Big hugs to you. Maybe the group I told u about, Fertility Fighters, might be able to give you some advice as to your next move as they have all been through what you have. I really am very saddened by your news. Your heart must be so heavy, life can be very unfair. Anything we can do to help just let us know. Xxx

Oh Annie that sucks, I'm so sorry lovely lady. Take some quiet time, but we're here if you need us.

stubbornstains · 21/10/2014 12:59

Oh yes, and sorry ginger that I haven't had more enthusiasm for an ante natal thread yet- I'm just very superstitious! x

stubbornstains · 21/10/2014 12:58

Oh annie my love, I'm so so sorry. So very sorry....Thanks

I'm also sorry for not asking after you- I thought it was next Monday that you were testing.

Please keep us updated on how you're feeling, and what you decide to do...xxx

Gingerbreadlady1 · 21/10/2014 12:38

I'm so so sorry annie, was so hoping it was just a shy one after all. We'll all be here waiting to support you in whatever steps you decide to take next. Huge hugs Thanks.

Up-duffed old birds, I'm gonna start us a thread in antenatal groups, don't leave me hanging....

Hello new old chicks Smile!

I've been away doing IVF but sadly I looks like it's failed. The blood test today will confirm.

I'm at work trying not to break down.

I am sad that the embryos didn't stick and all that hope has gone.

I'm 41 now and wasted all that time on Clomid... Maybe I've been too old from the start at 39... It seems that every time I get pregnant it's abnormal so I should see that as a sign to stop.

Will need to go and do some grieving now before deciding what to do next.

Thank you all for your support you have been so kind xxThanks

butterflyroom · 19/10/2014 18:33

Thanks Hexy Smile

HexyQueen · 18/10/2014 19:51

Welcome Butterflyroom, sorry to hear about your m/c, many of us on here have had them too so you are not alone. But on a happier note quite a few of us older ladies are also up the duff at the mo so there is always hope. Xxx
