TTC for the first time - anyone else?

Hi all. I'm a newbie to Mumsnet. TTC for the first time - it's all new!

DH and I have decided to 'take the plunge' and TTC#1. I'm 27 and DH is 31.

It's our first month of trying.

Anyone else just starting out? Would be great to hear from anyone in the same boat and share along the way.

I think the ovulation kits are worth it because its a process of elimination if you're not getting your BFP. Everyone likes to deal with it differently though ??

batfish · 30/09/2014 18:59

Really hoping you get your honeymoon baby Pixa!

Pixa · 30/09/2014 18:53

I am refusing to check anything... The most I have done is buy a couple of books (What to expect before you're expecting and Pre-conception to post-natal fitness). If I do start checking anything, including ovulation, I think I would end up doing everything! Really hoping our honeymoon helped and we will get some good news soon.

batfish · 30/09/2014 18:08

Part of me wants to use ovulation sticks just to make sure I do actually ovulate - seeing as I've only just discovered that having a period doesn't actually mean you've ovulated! I suppose it would be sensible to make sure ovulation is happening now rather than waiting 3-4 months and then finding out it isn't - but then I'll get obsessed immediately :-D

innersanctum · 30/09/2014 17:59

Do you all think the ovulating kits are worth it?

I haven't tried using one yet. Just going on the Ovia app. If we don't get pregnant this month, I may have to invest.

Think I'm just about to enter my fertile window (according to Ovia). I thought I'd already ovulated!

I'm not doing any cervical position (mainly because I know mine is very far back and retroverted. Nurses have enough trouble locating it for smears let alone me trying to! lol)

Haha look at us all now trying to stay cool, give us a month and it will be a different story I'm sure! Really hoping post pill AF comes tomorrow as expected so that I can officially start my TTC cycle!

fortywinx · 30/09/2014 13:23

Hi all, I'm currently at the end of my first cycle TTC#1, awaiting AF at the moment as she's due today or tomorrow. Got all the usual symptoms, so pretty sure she's on the way.
I'm 29 and my OH is also 29, at the moment I'm only following my cycles on an app on my phone, although I do have some OPKs to use next month (donated by a friend who bought them for herself but got preg after literally 1 try!). Trying not to be too intense with it all so OH doesn't get freaked out! XD
Good luck everyone!

Mumwannabe82 · 30/09/2014 12:37

Hi everyone, I came off the pill at the end of May and this month had a weird period, started early and a lot heavier so hoping that it's because I'm now ovulating ?? I have started using ovulating kits from boots and nothing yet bit feeling hopeful x glad I joined this sight so I don't feel like it's 'just me'!!
Good luck to everyone ??

Tammisaurus · 30/09/2014 10:41

Hi Ladies,
I'm also new and TTC#1
Such exciting times huh!? I'm like clockwork since coming off BC 3 months ago, so roll on 11th Oct to see what happens this time! Fingers crossed.

Ps. I'm so glad to have joined this site and to have other people to talk to who are in the same situation as me etc.

Pixa · 30/09/2014 07:58

Batfish - we are the same. We said we would be light hearted for the first three months and then start the temping etc after that but I keep wanting to do it earlier. Really praying for a honeymoon baby although I know it isn't at all likely.

tessiegirl · 29/09/2014 20:32

Hi ladies!
We are all in the same boat! I love reading how everyone is getting on. I'm not really worrying too much what Ovia says at the moment until I have my first 'real' AF.

innersanctum - have you tried using opks to track?

Anyone tried checking their cervical position?!

DogOnALeash · 29/09/2014 19:37

Oh, totally did not read that this had a second page to it already!!

Luckily we aren't too far apart ladies, we are all in the very early cycles so we are all in this together (not to quote High School Musical lol!) showing my age now

I want it to happen quickly as I am the most impatient person on the planet but DH wants it to take a least a couple of months where he gets to benefit from me actually wanting to DTD every other day haha

DogOnALeash · 29/09/2014 19:33

Ovia luckily is free or at least it was for me on iPhone...It takes a couple of months for it to start changing your dates around, mine was 2 months before it started to project different dates. This month they seemed to be pretty accurate, I ov'd on the dates specified but only time will tell if I get AF on 13th Oct or not lol!! So far it's got me at a 32 day cycle but my first off the pill was 34, I've always had a longer cycle so I feel this is pretty accurate.

My hubby would be so freaked out if I got fertility books and started temping, maybe if I do get anxious enough to do it I will just kept schtum and do it in private Confused

batfish · 29/09/2014 19:18

As much as it would be brilliant for things to happen quickly I am also wanting to try to keep it light hearted for the first couple of months so am trying to steer away from the temptation of ovulation sticks, temperatures etc...... Just going to try to have sex every 2-3 days (hubby can't wait as we are usually once a week ish and he would probably do it every day if I would) and see if anything happens - maybe after 3-4 months start trying to get a bit more technical! Kind of secretly wanting to do all of that straight away but don't want to take the fun out of it just yet, hope I don't regret it!

janeh1984 · 29/09/2014 19:16

I'm with you all! Came off pill in August, waited to first period in September and I'm now on the first cycle. About to begin the dreaded two week wait! Feeling nervous and excited at the same time....

I wonder how many of us will get a BFP in two weeks? Good luck to everyone Smile xx

innersanctum · 29/09/2014 19:07

Hi tessiegirl!

I know what you mean - my husband admitted tonight that he's struggling to keep up with my new timetable!

We've just bought some Conceive Plus lube, too. It gets good reviews on Amazon. Anything that helps!

I'm so confused about ovulation. The two apps I'm using give completely different ov dates and fertility windows. So, I guess we're just dtd as much as possible to increase our chances. FX!

Batfish - 'crazed conception machine' I love it! Smile

Hi tessiegirl - a woman after my own heart. I'm also a planner for a living so I'm all about being organised and doing as much as I can to help the situation! Fx for you

batfish · 29/09/2014 18:54

I'm getting so impatient already - still have 2-3 whole days to wait until first post pill AF so over a week until we can officially be trying! And then that means (assuming we don't get lucky on the first try - and I am probably pessimistic where all of this is concerned so I am most definitely not assuming that) that I am still over a month away from finding out whether my cycle will be straight back to normal after coming off the pill and can begin my transformation into crazed conception machine. Jealous of all of you that are a bit further ahead!

Hubby's sister had a baby a week ago so it should take the heat off us as far as family wondering why we've not got kids yet is concerned! We have been together for 16 years and married for 5, she is 7 years younger than us and celebrated her first wedding anniversary last week so definitely got her shit together a lot sooner than us :-D No regrets though, we've had a blast just the 2 of us which is why it has taken us so long to decide it is time.

Excited to start hearing everyone's news and learn the tricks!

tessiegirl · 29/09/2014 18:41

Hello all!
We are also ttc #1 and I came off the pill just over two weeks ago. Just waiting to see what my body is up to and trying to DTD as much as we can. My poor hubby doesn't know what has hit him with me pouncing on him!! I am also using Ovia but won't be sure it is working accurately until AF arrives. Trying not to be obsessed but have bought some opks, Conceive Plus lube, Pregnacare His and Her conception vitamins, a basal temperature thermometer and a couple of fertility books. Haha! Can't you just tell that I am a planner as well! Thankfully DH is more than happy for me to get all this to improve our chances of trying to work out my cycles as much as we can, bless him! Looking forward to the journey ahead that we can all share together Grin

Blue500 · 29/09/2014 08:34

I'm using ovia, but maybe I'm using it wrong or it's just cause I'm only 2 wks off the pill but it doesn't seem to track much for me. The info on when I might be ovulating never changes. I'm hoping that will change when I have more symptoms though. I just want to fast forward a few wks or months so badly! Lol!

innersanctum · 29/09/2014 08:09

adora1985 you are most welcome! Smile Crossed fingers for you.

Ovia seems to be a popular app choice. I've been using some crappy free one called PD, but it has my cycle data from last March, so quite useful now. Think I'll get the Ovia one too. My phone's going to turn into a crazed conception dashboard!

I'm also the first of my close friends to try for a baby (or get married!). It's only friends through my DH who've had babies as he's four years older than me, so great to find you all to chat to about it.

I'm trying to keep my stress levels down atm. I've read that stressed ladies will take 30% longer to conceive!

I hope I'm ok in here, we're TTC our first, but it's not our first time trying. We first tried back in 2011-I'd been on the pill 9 years and got a bfp really quickly, followed by two mcs within a few months of each other. No other bfps after the second mc.
Fast forward to now and we're TTC again, we both have fertility problems and have been referred to a specialist, but have been told to keep going anyway as you never know!
So, I'm 28, my DH is 29. If there's anything we can take or do to maybe help our chances then we're doing it, so I'm keeping everything crossed and staying hopeful that even though we don't have a great chance of getting there without help, I have quite a few friends who have fertility issues and have now had their BFP or have babies, so it can and does happen.

Silverglitter · 28/09/2014 21:37

Me!
I am 26 and my husband is 32 and we are ttc baby number 1.
Second month trying and I am trying my very best not to turn into crazy baby lady but it's so hard not to get totally obsessed!
I too am tracking on an app and have been for a while now. I did try the ov tests but found it really hard to do them at the same time of day each day so have abandoned them in favour of date tracking and monitoring CM, I seem to be getting EWCM (sorry FAR TMI!!!) at the right times so fingers crossed!
I should ov in the next couple of days so we are doing the bd as much as possible and I've got my fingers permanently crossed.
Would be great to hear from people in the same boat, all my friends seem to have got pg within a month or 2 so I'm terrified for some reason it won't happen for us.

wanttobeamummyin2015 · 28/09/2014 20:45

Haha dog - hoarding sperms ;) my DH lay there with his legs up too cos he wanted to join in! We ended up in hysterics it was the most ridiculous sight :)

wanttobeamummyin2015 · 28/09/2014 20:43

I feel the same as all of you! First out of my friends, only a couple are married or in serious relationships. My cousins all hot married young like me, and one has an 18m old lg so have a small amount of experience with her but not really! I am a massive control freak I think the ovia app and checking my cm is only thing keeping me sane and it's only been 2 weeks! My DH wanted kids for ages, he wants lots and to have them young so pressure is on! Ha a pregnancy scare last year but we were both a bi disappointed that the test wasn't positive. Here's hoping it happens quickl as I am so impatient :P I think when it gets to 4 days before when I think is my ad I will be poas obsessively especially as I have bought a multipack of internet cheapies... Hehe
