TTC for the first time - anyone else?

Hi all. I'm a newbie to Mumsnet. TTC for the first time - it's all new!

DH and I have decided to 'take the plunge' and TTC#1. I'm 27 and DH is 31.

It's our first month of trying.

Anyone else just starting out? Would be great to hear from anyone in the same boat and share along the way.

Glad to be in the same camp as someone pixa! Well I am due to ovulate this week so plenty of dtd this week! But this is only attempt 1 so not expecting (but secretly hoping for!) miracles! Convincing husband that it might take a few months as he seems to think it will happen first time as he wants us to conceive in December as it fits better with his job!

Pixa · 06/10/2014 20:12

Ooh Blimeygirl we are about the same! I am 24, hubby is 33. Also TTC #1 and are just coming to the end of cycle 1. I feel completely crazy already!

xxkasseyxx · 06/10/2014 19:54

Blimeygirl · 06/10/2014 19:43

Hi can I join in here as well?! Husband and I about to start ttc#1 I'm 24 and he's 31. Just trying to not turn into a crazy woman about it!

batfish · 06/10/2014 16:03

Aww sorry to hear that pinkie1982 - must be a little disappointing even if you had been trying not to get your hopes up. Fingers crossed now that AF comes on time so you can start again soon!

pinkie1982 · 06/10/2014 10:20

First cycle, first proper AF due Thursday...we will see. Negative test this morning. Took 3 days early as OH is off working away until Friday. Was excised but trying not to get my hopes up too much for first cycle.
Now hoping it does arrive on time...
Better luck next month :/

batfish · 05/10/2014 09:22

Like Pixa we have decided not to test for ovulation just yet (even though I would like to put my mind at rest and know that I am actually ovulating) so that it doesn't feel like it is getting too serious too soon - so we are just going to see how it goes for the next 2-3 months and then think about ovulation sticks and temperature etc. Won't stop me looking for my own signs of ovulation though haha.

DogOnALeash we haven't really told anyone we are TTC - for exactly the reasons that you mentioned, we don't want people looking for signs of pregnancy or asking how it is going, especially if it takes a long time. I have spoken to a couple of close friends about it but that's it. It is hard though because we are at that age where it is on people's minds - I actually had a friend ask me yesterday whether we ever talk about when we will have kids and I said no we haven't really thought much about it and maybe in a year or so we would think about it!

Pixa · 05/10/2014 09:02

I definitely think we will be trying ovulation tests if we have three cycles without a BfP. Promised DH that we would try for three months without charting, or using OPKs first.

Mumwannabe82 · 04/10/2014 23:54

Thanks ladies, just got the dreaded two week wait now so I'm with you all the way dogonaleash XXX
You should generally ovulate 14 days before your next period regardless of how long your cycle is but everyone is different! The ovulation tests think I should have started using them on day 5 of my cycle so when I have literally come off AF but today I have had my strongest line and I'm on day 11 and only a faint line before that and nothing at all to begin with xx hope that helps inner sanctum xx

DogOnALeash · 04/10/2014 15:25

Oh that's great Mumwannabe82 it's good to know that your body is working like you hope it should be Smile it took me about 3 cycles to get all the good signs of ovulating and my fertile window, I haven't done OPKs yet but I know that i will if things don't move along in a couple of months.

OK I'm in my 2WW and I am finding it soooooo hard not to POAS, according to my Ovia app there is still 7 days before I can even do an early test and man it is killing me to hold out, I know I'm not going to have fallen pg on first go but the whole process is still exciting!

Don't you just hate the smug friends that just 'happen' to become pregnant like it didn't even occur to them that it could be a struggle to some people.

Have any of you told people that you are TTC? MIL is staying with us atm and DH asked if we should tell her, I said not to as we would constantly be asked how things were going and I don't think I could take the questioning if it became a struggle...Confused

innersanctum · 04/10/2014 15:24

Mumwannabe82 yay for oving!

I haven't tried ov tests yet, but definitely going to give them a try if a bfn this month.

When are you supposed to do the ov tests?

Mumwannabe82 · 04/10/2014 08:10

Morning ladies, so little update on the ovulation tests. I got nothing to begin with then for a couple of days got a faint line (which still means negative supposedly) then in the last couple if days it got darker and darker so I'm really pleased that I'm ovulating yay If anyone decides to use them you need to be a little bit patient as your body takes a little time to tell you want you want to hear XXX oh and some women only get a faint line and have fallen pregnant so the hope is out there ladies xx wishing you all the luck in the world when TTC Grin

batfish · 02/10/2014 23:20

innersanctum hopefully you are right that everything will happen when the time is right - I am a big believer in everything happens for a reason. Until things don't go my way haha. Just joking, I do like to believe that if something doesn't go to plan then it means I'm being redirected towards another plan. I sound like a total hippie which is really not the case!

Hi Crystal049 and Babymamababy :-)

innersanctum · 02/10/2014 21:39

Can totally relate batfish. I'm not really broody type, but I know I want children of my own with my husband, so excited about potentially starting a family.

Had to remind myself that TTC is a long process so trying to not be too hopeful it'll happen quickly.

Was talking to smug friends who got BFP after only two months!!

For all of us, I'm sure it'll happen when the time is right Smile

Pixa · 02/10/2014 07:30

Crystal I know what you mean about feeling excited and nervous at the same time. Best of luck to you! Smile

Babymamababy the lingo is a mind field in itself! I have been relaying it back to my husband who just keeps saying 'lets just do the sex' haha. Wishing you luck too. Smile

Babymamababy · 01/10/2014 19:24

Hi all. I am new to this page. Am also ttc ( and learning the lingo!) fingers crossed for everyone x

Crystal049 · 01/10/2014 19:05

Hope you don't mind me joining in, I'm 32 married 2 years and having my last pill next week, so excited. Been taking pre conception vitamins, it will be my first so excited and nervous at the same time.

Pixa · 01/10/2014 17:01

Wishing you all the luck kezaroo

Blue500 I am so sorry to hear that you know the feeling - it is so hard! My SIL (on husbands side of family) announced before her wedding, in 2012, that they would be TTC straight away, but we have had no baby news, and in a way I really want her to announce that they are expecting before we get there. I am not sure I can put someone through what we have been though. If that makes sense? I think the TWW is the worst time! Because it is just waiting, at least with AF and the Big O you can proactively move towards your goal.

Spreading lots of baby dust to you all!

I had a text from my mum today, my sister is only 5-6 weeks pg according to her scan today, which makes no sense. My sister claims to have had a BfP on 31st August, so something has to be wrong somewhere... She definitely had a BfP on the 8th September. To know that early is really making me think it was all planned, which is devastating especially because of how irresponsible they are...

batfish · 01/10/2014 16:57

Aww I feel for you Pixa and Blue500 - it must be awful if you feel like it's happening for everyone around you with no effort at all! But hopefully you'll both be sharing your own exciting news soon.

If I'm totally honest I'm not actually broody - and never really have been. I know that sounds weird when I'm excited about TTC but I have seen friends have children and all say it is so amazing - so even though I don't have that urge myself (I just think it looks like really hard work) I know that when it happens it will be awesome (despite the aforementioned really hard work). And I'm excited for me and the hubby to be thinking about a new chapter in our lives.

Hope you're OK too kezaroo - sorry to hear you're feeling a bit crappy :-(

Blue500 · 01/10/2014 14:11

Hi Pixa, I know the feeling. My SIL has a one yr old and she announced last week that she's 3mths pg again and it was a total accident. Plus I have a sneaky feeling that my best friend is going to announce she's also pg and she doesn't even want kids! My DH parents were so keen to be grandparents and they dote so much on my SIL and her daughter. I was hoping I would be the next one and then she goes and gets knocked up again! I really want to be pg right now rather then this waiting and seeing malarkey!! Just remember it will be you showing your own scan pics to your sister and parents soon x

kezaroo · 01/10/2014 12:43

Still trying here too! It has now been 41 days since coming off pill.

Bloated, tired and hungry with no signs of af coming and my boobs look like l map with all the veins that have appeared!

Want to do a test but don't - if that makes sense. Don't think I could handle another bfn :(

Pixa · 01/10/2014 12:38

Fingers crossed it happens soon for you Mumwannabe82 and batfish! I just have to remember it doesn't really matter who does it first as long as it is all okay! Smile

Mumwannabe82 · 01/10/2014 12:34

Aww Pixa that must be hard going, just don't forget that trying for a baby is just about you and your husband and no one else. I thought I would be the first one to have a baby because I always had the maternal instinct growing up but now my sister and brother have two kids each and I don't have one yet. Just to clarify, that wasn't because I have been trying for years, just wrong relationships but now I am in the right one and we both want a baby so feeling hopeful now xx

Pixa · 01/10/2014 11:58

Thanks Ladies, I am really struggling today. A few days before my wedding my younger (irresponsible) sister announced she was expecting. She has her first scan today and is coming to my house for tea. I always thought I would be the first one to give our parents a grandchild, especially because I was the eldest grandchild. My sister is due to be evicted from her home next week because her and her partner are terrible with money. I am trying so hard to be supportive, but I am not sure I can sit and look at her scan pictures tonight.

How is everyone else doing today? If AF arrives on schedule next week, I am going to have the BIGGEST piece of cheesecake!

Mumwannabe82 · 30/09/2014 19:48

Good luck getting your honeymoon baby Pixa xxx
