TTC for the first time - anyone else?

Hi all. I'm a newbie to Mumsnet. TTC for the first time - it's all new!

DH and I have decided to 'take the plunge' and TTC#1. I'm 27 and DH is 31.

It's our first month of trying.

Anyone else just starting out? Would be great to hear from anyone in the same boat and share along the way.

We've just had a slight change of plan - I realised that if by some miracle I were to get pregnant first try then I would be due around the time I will have been in my job for a year. And if I am there for less than a year then I won't be entitled to maternity pay. So I think this month we are just going to take it easy and then properly go for it next month because then timing will def be good! I know it is extremely unlikely it would happen first time but sod's law says it will if we don't really want it to! Kind if disappointed to be delaying the full on TTC by a month but seems a shame to risk missing out on the dosh for the sake of a couple of weeks!

Blimeygirl your pups are sooooo cute!!

fc for you alisvolapropiis !

Hi ladies. I'm going mad trying to symptom-spot in 2ww. Any slight tummy twinge, any slight soreness in my boobs, any slight nausea (oh no, that's probably just wolfing down a dairy milk in about two mins flat).

Got 8 days til AF due. Wondering how long I can last before I cave and do a pg test.

On that note, anyone tried ordering a load of cheapie pg tests off amazon? Wondering whether to cough up for the clearblue ones or go for cheapie ones. It could start adding up!

batfish we felt totally reckless when we first dtd unprotected. After 10 years together, it felt like the first time all over again!

Really enjpying hearing from you all. It's so liberating being able to chat here when I can't talk to anyone else about it - we're keeping it a secret that we're trying. Don't want extra pressure!

blimeygirl LOVE the puppy pics.

Wine while we wait ladies Smile

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/10/2014 18:12

Usually like clockwork, though I only know that because of the trusty tracker app I've had for years!

I think I'm going to wait until next week to test again, just in case AF has had a funny moment and turns up late.

I suppose if I am pregnant, I won't be any less if I wait a bit longer!

Mumwannabe82 · 09/10/2014 12:43

Hi Alisvolatepropiis, Are you normally regular? If you are then I would still do another one because lots of women don't get a positive until after their AF is due, it sometimes just takes a little time for the right hormones to kick in!! good luck and sprinkling lots of baby dust!!

Alisvolatpropiis · 08/10/2014 22:58

Still no AF. Am now 4 days late.

But I feel disinclined to test again after that bfn the day before AF was due.

Blimeygirl · 08/10/2014 21:31

Puppies certainly help especially when it's a home birth! Love them so much and gives us an insight into what we can do! First time my husband has delivered pups too so gave him a scare/ excitement! Who couldn't love them?! These are the times I see my husband's best broody side!

Blimey what an eventful day! So exciting. Maybe DH and I need to get a dog...

My broodiness never seems to waiver. I think DH is broody now, I have seem him checking out prams when people walk by... Confused

Blimeygirl · 08/10/2014 18:41

Well my broodiness has a bit of a break for now as our bitch just had four puppies so we get to experience sleepless nights again! All good practise! Been an eventful day!

wanttobeamummyin2015 · 08/10/2014 09:22

batfish I know what you mean! Takes a while to change perception, it felt so naughty to begin with!

Pixa · 08/10/2014 08:23

Husband threatened to by condoms last night as a joke when we were looking at pregnancy tests. I came close to throttling him. (Jokingly obviously).

Blimeygirl · 08/10/2014 08:17

Ha I'm glad it's not just me that felt very reckless and wanted to tell someone immediately the first time we had unprotected sex! But sadly dh still feels that it's a bit reckless before next month ( he's very stubborn/ careful) so after a discussion last night we have to wait another month till being completely reckless Hmm

Pixa · 08/10/2014 07:43

Batfish I remember thinking how reckless I felt on our wedding night! First ever unprotected sex; it felt extremely reckless! Really odd.

batfish · 08/10/2014 04:35

Well last night I had my first unprotected sex ever - I've always been ridiculously careful! So even though there is no chance of pregnancy from it (only CD7 and my first cycle off the pill so who knows when ovulation will happen) it still felt very reckless haha!

Ahh Blimeygirl me and the hubby have been together since I was 16 too! We are now 33. Which means that I think we still think of ourselves of kids so we are finding all of these TTC conversations very funny and a bit embarrassing! I need to grow up :-)

Blimeygirl · 07/10/2014 19:36

Thanks girlies! Thought I might be blasted for that question! No I will make sure I limit the intake but will enjoy that drink on Friday then! As I said earlier I am trying to not let it take over my life but easier said than done when it has been a long time in the pipeline! (Husband and I have been together since I was 16 and always wanted a big family!)

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/10/2014 19:27

I'm going to hold out until Saturday. I don't think I'm pregnant but would love to know where AF is!

I'd go for the drinks Blimey, don't let it take over everything.

My DH and I are talking about it very little really, I suppose one month in it is very much a "we'll see" kind of thing.

batfish · 07/10/2014 19:23

Well given that loads of people drink plenty before they even realise they are pregnant I am sure it will be fine - and if you don't drink during the 2ww and it takes a while to get pregnant (although I really hope it doesn't for you) then it will kind of take over your life. Obviously the health advice says to avoid alcohol if you are TTC but I doubt there are many people who do completely - or at least not until they've been TTC for a while and putting a but more effort in.

So personally I would say have a few drinks with your friend and don't worry about it. But obviously it is your body and only you know how you would feel if you were to be pregnant and then be worrying that you had been shitfaced in the early stages :-D I am no expert at all but I would say don't worry about it.

Blimeygirl · 07/10/2014 19:16

I would probably wait a couple more days to test again Alis if you can manage to wait! But what would I know I'm a complete novice!

Can I ask a daft question please (please don't take the mick!) so we are dtd this week as I am ovulating or about to (I think!) but we have a friend coming over this weekend who I haven't seen for ages. Given that we are sort of starting before we need/ want to conceive (husband wants to conceive December ish and assumes it will happen immediately!) can I risk a drink or a few? Or should I just do the very well behaved tww?!

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/10/2014 12:42

If I had a bfn the day before AF was due, is there any point in testing again now AF is late?

xxkasseyxx · 07/10/2014 07:34

I tested yest and got a bfn but still no sign of af my partner is always excited thinking it's gonna happen quickly cuz were young but I'm not convinced myt test again on fri if af is still not here I'm hoping I can wait again till then

Mumwannabe82 · 06/10/2014 22:13

I'm always naughty and test earlier than I should lol xxx

Mumwannabe82 · 06/10/2014 22:12

Hi ladies, well as previously posted I ovulated at the weekend (well I think I did) but now getting a little bleed when I go to the toilet Hmm so bit worried now that the cruel witch has pitched up early, hope not!!!
Welcome xxkasseyxx and blimey girl, we're all here for you xxxx

Alisvolatpropiis · 06/10/2014 22:11

I was naughty and did a test the day before AF was due. it was a BFN. AF has now not shown up, just to spite me. Will probably show up as soon as I put on a pair of white knickers though.

DH is being very cautious about the whole thing. I think when we do get a BFP there may be a careful managing of my expectations, he has been in relationships where (unplanned) pregnancies have ended in miscarriage.

He's never actively tried either so he is quietly excited too though.

Blimeygirl · 06/10/2014 21:23

So are you newly married then pixa?! Fingers crossed for lots of BFPs for everyone! So excited now and just want that BFP! But for now will enjoy a glass of vino!

Pixa · 06/10/2014 21:01

My husband seems to think it will happen straight away (I wish - only been planning it since forever!) so I had to explain that it could take months and months. I ovulated whilst on honeymoon about ten days ago, so now waiting for either AF or a BfP. I hate the TWW and it's only my first one. Hubby is being mega supportive though and has promised me cheesecake and a large glass of wine if AF shows. It's great to hear from someone in a similar boat! Will have my fingers crossed that you get a BfP soon! Grin
