Well that's it. After 13 years of being on the pill I am now not. For various reasons I didn't come off a few months ago to allow my cycle to get back to "normal" (who knows what that is when I was on the pill twice as long as I had periods naturally) so I have no idea how long it'll take me to ovulate. Anyone else in the same boat? Having spent my whole adult life assuming I'd get pregnant just by looking at a boy without BC I am now realising it might actually take months or even years to conceive. Plus I'm not talking about this with friends; they either got pregnant vv quickly or are no where near that stage. So, would be great to hear from a few of you in the same boat...

Ainat hopefully it won't be too long now. Go to work without any pads/tampons and you're bound to come on! (Or fingers crossed that you POAS and get a BFP!)

I completely agree Joey I'm waiting for ovulation and DTD EOD. If we don't get pregnant this month, then I'm hoping I'll be a little more relaxed in future.

Joey0805 · 01/10/2014 08:01

Now I am bored. After the excitement of DTD lots and then ovulating (after I thought I might so the DTD wasn't that well timed, oh well!) I'm now 5 DPO and bored already of nothingness! I can see why everyone goes a bit symptom spotting mad!!! I actually think AF is on the way - have a dull, constant ache (albeit v weak), really hoping it is so I don't have a 100 day 1st cycle like some others have had...

OP posts:
Ainat266 · 30/09/2014 22:53

sorry to hear about the cystitis. hope it clears up for you both soon!

cd30 for me. As it's the first cycle off of the pill who knows how long it's going to take af to arrive. was kinda hoping would just hurry up and start so I can get on with plotting my cycles and working out when I am most likely to be ovulating, etc. I did get a bit of what I think was just spotting last night. But it was just after dtd. I could have possibly caught myself during dtd though...

why is it that in termsof cycles days are passing by so slowly, but in terms of what I need to do at work the days are passing way too fast!?

Blue500 · 30/09/2014 18:44

Hi Porch, I also currently have cystitis. I can't put it down to whether it's more dtd then usual, or because we used Conceive Plus lube which we haven't used before or if it's just one of those things. It's the worse feeling in the world though. I have had years of suffering and at one stage I was on antibiotics for 2 yrs straight. I haven't had it in about 3 years and now all of a sudden it's come back. I truly hope it's a one off as it makes me so miserable. I hope yours clears up soon Smile

Silverglitter · 30/09/2014 17:56

I have been told that also about the baby not sharing your blood stream in the first few weeks which makes me feel better. It's difficult because I don't really want to drink at all but we don't want to tell friends or family we are trying so I am having a glass of wine when we are in company.

I have managed to pretty much totally cut out caffine but I'm not a big tea or coffee drinker so it has been easier for me than most people!

Joey0805 · 30/09/2014 17:40

I'm not a big drinker anyway and whilst we're TTC I'm not going out getting hammered but I am still drinking wine over dinner at weekends and work dinners. A friend - who is a doctor - said that if you're v newly pregnant it doesn't matter because there's no placenta so the 'baby' (or ball of cells) isn't connected to your blood stream. That said, when I get a BFP I won't drink in the 1st trimester at least but until then I'm not putting my life on hold - it could take ages to get pregnant!!

Similarly on the coffee front I've cut down but not cut it out entirely.

Emz1989 · 30/09/2014 17:32

I drank last weekend, knowing I had just finished af and wouldn't have ovulated yet - I do think I'm going to make conscious effort now to really limit myself, especially post ov during 2ww. I'm not a big drinker anyway, the odd glass of wine with dinner.... I don't think I'd forgive myself though if I had a bfp and had been drinking. I know there's lots of mixed views on this though, a lady I work with is 2nd trimester and has a glass every Friday!

Silverglitter · 30/09/2014 17:18

Hi Porch... I feel for you with the irregular periods mine are a little unpredictable too my cycles have ranged from 26 to 43 days recently and it makes it so much harder to predict ovulation. I just hope it doesn't effect chances too much.
I also feel for you on the Cystitis thing I used to get it a lot but find now that if I drink lots of water and never let myself get dehydrated I don't get it, also not drinking alcohol helps (boo boring!!).

On the subject of alcohol I would be interested to see different peoples views on drinking whilst trying! I'm not a big drinker but haven't stopped while we have been trying but I feel guilty during the 2ww just incase. Has anybody cut out booze totally?

Emz1989 · 30/09/2014 09:44

Porchrules I felt the same disappointment when we didn't conceive on our honeymoon. It makes me feel selfish though, when there are boards on here about people who have been trying for 10+ months, even years to conceive! It's actually put it into perspective for me, I'm on cycle 2 of what could potentially be a long road! Couldn't agree more though about how grateful I feel to have found this board. Have only posted once or twice but log on for a read a couple of times a day at the mo!! So many of us in the same boat and it's really quite reassuring.
Hoping there is some bfp news in this thread soon though, lovely ladies!! Xx

We got hitched in July and started straight away... Confess to a little disappointment when we weren't one of the lucky 'honeymoon baby' couples and more frustration now my horribly irregular cycle is playing its old 2 months and no period trick - but maybe one day, eh! Incidentally the reason for the horrible time of night (or should I say morning) that I'm posting this is that I'm sat up with awful cystitis...another perilous hazard of this TTC milarky!! Finding all you others is helping me not to get tears right now though which is lovely! Thanks.

Shellbell0403 · 29/09/2014 22:15

Hi ladies

Thanks for the diet advice! I think the eat clean ideas are really good, think I will follow all the advice and so correct about the best time to start is now when trying to conceive! Going to cut down on alcohol too! If I didn't have OH bday and my 30th in Oct i would give it up completely!!

I'm taking the tesco pregnancy vitamins which are recommended for people trying it just conceived!!

Is it easy to check cervix position? Xx

ThenewMrsB82 · 29/09/2014 21:38

Hi ladies.. Can anyone advise me..
I'm usually really regular.. My cycle is 26 days or 27 at the very most and I have cramps for several days before that let me know that af is arriving. But I'm not on day 29 of my cycle with no sign of it arriving.. I genuinely thought my period was arriving the other day but it was just a little spotting.
I've done a Pregnancy test twice a day since Friday and ask are negative but my nipples are incredibly store which I've never had before..
Husband and I are confused.. Had anyone got any suggestions?? I've only ever been late once in my life when I was 12..I'm now 32!!

Silverglitter · 29/09/2014 19:12

Thanks TheProofIs... at least somebody else feels the same! I feel guilty worrying already when so many ladies on here have been trying for such a long time but it's so hard to just relax like everybody seems to be telling me to!

Emz I am taking the Boots his and hers conception tablets (although it's proving to be a nightmare getting DH to remember to take his!) I'm not sure that they have any real benefits but they contain all the Folic Acid recommended and at least I feel like I'm doing something to help!
I am in the same boat as you with healthy eating, since my wedding last summer I have been terrible!

Emilyjane11 · 29/09/2014 19:10

Hi ladies,

About your cervix position, I check mine every day (apart from on period,ew) so during your period it hardens and is low down and closed during ovulation is goes back up and is soft and open, track this on the Ovia app and it gives a good indication of what's going on. If your cervix is still high when due on and is still soft and open its normally a good sign but mine dropped and hardened in a day ready for AF but don't know how normal that is!!

I am going to keep doing this and tracking my temp this month. There's some good articles on it if you google it :)

TheProofIsInThePudding · 29/09/2014 18:51

Hello Silver - no advice, just another crazy lady here! It's TTC cycle 1 for us and I have never known a month to go so slowly... AF/BFP still won't be due until 17th October, which seems ages away!

Emz if you've done it before, you can do it again. You know what works for you. I like the phrase: do something today that future-you will be grateful for. You can still have treats, just less of them. One scoop of ice cream, not two; one bottle glass (just me?! Blush) of wine, not two etc.

Emz1989 · 29/09/2014 18:30

Hi again, sorry about af Emily, at least you know where you are now! Great advice Theproofis... I just can't seem to cut back on the treats at the mo!! Lost quite a bit of weight before my wedding (6weeks ago) and have been overindulging ever since! You're right though, there's no time like the present to start making the right choices...
What vitamins are you all taking? I've been taking the seven seas 'trying for a baby' supplements since I got married and I'm not sure whether they're making me feel bloated or if it's just coincidental as I came off the pill at the same time. Just windering if anyone else has noticed side effects from prenatal vitamins?

Silverglitter · 29/09/2014 16:56

Hi,
Hope it's ok for me to join in?
My husband and I are ttc baby number 1, currently on cycle 2 with 14 days before af is due and super nervous!
All my friends seem to have conceived in 1 or 2 cycles and I am so worried that for some reason it won't happen for us.
I have been taking pre natal vitamins for a few months but if anybody has any other advice at all I would be really grateful. Or any words of wisdom to just keep me sane would be equally great as I already feel like I'm turning into a crazy lady!

Joey0805 · 29/09/2014 14:57

For me, if it didn't fly, swim, run or grow why am I eating it? Reduce caffeine, alcohol, sugar and anything processed as much as possible and move as much as you can; exercise releases endorphins and makes us feel amazing!!

(I am not a saint and love treats but I try to be healthy most of the time so when I'm not I can really enjoy it guilt free).

I'm very passionate about this stuff and think there can be no more important time to be in good shape than when thinking of having a baby. And by good shape I mean healthy as most people won't look like Gisele no matter how much they work out or what they eat...

TheProofIsInThePudding · 29/09/2014 13:08

Hello, ladies! I did my first half marathon at the weekend and really enjoyed it! I'm a bit sore today, but I'll soon recover Smile

I'm afraid I know nothing about cervix position!

This week should be my fertile week, so we're going to continue DTD EOD and hope for the best.

Somebody mentioned diet (sorry, I can't remember who it was). I really like Michael Pollan's advice: eat food, not too much, mostly plants. (By 'eat food' he means real whole food, not processed stuff, things that your great grandparents would recognise.) I also like the 80/20 rule: 80 per cent good stuff, 20 per cent treats. That way you don't feel deprived and are less likely to binge. My third piece of advice is to eat a variety of foods to make sure you get all different nutrients. An easy way to do this is to make your meals as colourful as you can - eat the rainbow! Good luck!

Ainat266 · 28/09/2014 22:34

hi all, been pretty busy this weekend, just catching up on the thread. Hello to everyone I haven't seen before. X

Emily, sorry to hear about af arrival. A 28 day cycle though. :-)

I'm not sure what's going on with my cycle. The past two days I've had ewcm. I should be getting af today or tomorrow, so wrong point in the cycle for ewcm right?
I've got a few spots and skin is a bit greasy - normally I have dry skin. odd cramps here and there, but not too severe. been feeling nauseous from time to time, but not overly so. And weird metallic taste. oh, and over emotional. yesterday I cried because I accidentally tore a corner on a piece of card...

both pregnancy test and ovulation tests are coming up negative.

how do you check cervix position?

hope all you lovely ladies enjoyed your weekend. X

scienceteachergeek · 28/09/2014 22:26

Right folks....really going for it this month.

Started doing the basal body temp thing to check that I actually am ovulating. I've bought some of that preseed which seems to be artificial EWCM!!! I'm also gonna do the ovulation sticks again. I've put my husband on an alcohol ban and I've joined a gym. Getting all my blood tests back this week so we'll see what the doc says. I've bought two books to read too. I'll let you know if they're worth buying. Emily I'm also going to try the cervix thing, you've taught us all well!

Sorry to hear some of you got AF. Fingers crossed for everyone. Second wedding anniversary tomorrow so will start DTD every 2 days for the next two weeks.

We need some BFPs!!! If we all got positives this month we can announce it at Christmas. Love to you all x

WiIdfire · 28/09/2014 21:27

Can I join please?
Restarting TTC#1 after MC in May, so really nice to find a group of people also after their first. Good luck girls (and guys if there are any?)!

Shellbell0403 · 28/09/2014 20:49

Hey gorgeous ladies!

Sorry been quiet for a few days! AF finished today!! (Hopefully) Woohoo!! Can start to focus for another month now Smile anyone tell me how u track ur cervix position? Oh and can anyone recommend the best diet plan when trying to conceive? Xxx

Emilyjane11 · 28/09/2014 16:57

Yeah I would take that as a positive sign although mine has dropped and become hard in a matter of hours! Then AF arrived. But 28 day long cycle, I must be greatful for that x
