lindamagoo · 10/08/2014 20:02

Kurama what happens next for you then if this last cycle of clomid doesn't work (it will though Smile)

KittyVonCatsington · 10/08/2014 20:02

A little about my history and reasons for taking Soy Isoflavones, jazzy

I've technically been TTC since coming off the Pill last October. I used OPKs right from the start and SMEP plan. I was averaging a luteal phase of 10-11 days with ovulation usually on day 20 or 21. In Feb, I got a BFP on the day AF was due. It didn't stick and for the next two cycles I didn't ovulate.

First time I temped was after the last anovulatory cycles and that was textbook with a 13 day LP but still ovulated late and had very high per ovulation temps until the day before positive OPK, and it took a few days for my progesterone to fully kick in after. Last cycle was. 43 day cycle where I ovulated late again but something extended my LP to 23 days.

I wanted to try and bring my pre-ov temps to normal levels to bring forward ovulation. The theory that if I successfully fertilise, then I my body might produce the right amount of progesterone and lining (late ovulation can equal bad uterus lining) will help support the little bean naturally.

So far, I have had great pre-ov temps and brought forward ovulation by 6 days (will check third temp tomorrow to confirm this) Had the darkest ic OPK I have ever had and have been feeling good ov twinges.
I took on CD2 100mg, CD3 150mg, CD4 150mg, CD5 200mg.

Sorry af got you blueberry Hmm thinking of u today x

lucieloos · 10/08/2014 19:58

Just wanted to re-iterate Kitty's post that Soy tablets shouldn't be taken if you have a normal cycle as they can actually inhibit fertility and mess up your cycle. Think its a case of if it ain't broke then don't fix it..

jazzyjenbo · 10/08/2014 19:45

This is interesting kitty. Do u take soy then? If so would u recommend it and which days do u take it?

Shetland · 10/08/2014 19:43

Sorry blueberry

KittyVonCatsington · 10/08/2014 19:33

Read all of this and then decide what you’re looking for.

NOTE: Just like Clomid, Soya Isoflavones may not help some women at all and it has been reported that cycles have altered negatively in some women who have had normal cycles to begin with.

WHAT IS IT?
Soya Isoflavones are derived from soya beans. They have been dubbed “the natural Clomid,”
As they work in pretty much an identical manner.
Just like Clomid; Soya Isoflavones work by tricking your body into thinking its low on oestrogen. Your body then kick starts production of FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone) followed by LH (Luteinizing hormone), which are both necessary to release Healthy Eggs during ovulation.

WHEN?
You take Soy Isoflavones, like Clomid, on either CD 1-5 , 2-6, 3-7 , 4-8 or 5-9.
If you take Soy Isoflavones during the later time bracket, for example CD5-9, you shall strengthen the egg that has already started growing, producing a healthier egg. The earlier in your cycle you take It, the higher your chance of releasing an egg sooner in your cycle if you are worried about short luteal phases or low progesterone, HOWEVER, multiple eggs may be triggered and these eggs will not be as mature as the eggs grown from taking Soya later.
A lot of women will choose the middle cycle (3 -7) allowing time for a strong and healthy egg to develop, without erasing the chance of a second egg being developed and released.
Most sites say that you should ovulate 3-7 days after your last dosage of Soy Isoflavones. So taking your last dosage on cd 13 means you may not O until cd 20 and then say you have an lp of 14 days, then that means you’re going to get AF on cd 34.

Summary:
1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be a lot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured a lot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

DOSE?
The dose is really down to you but you should always use the lowest amount that works for you.
With Clomid the starting dose is 100mg. Soya Isoflavones are said to be half the strength of Clomid, so it makes sense for the starting dose to be 100mg.
The trouble with 100mg of soya is that the capsules tend to come as 40mg or 50mg. So you have a choice of starting at 80mg or 120mg.

I would recommend that if you know that you do ovulate without taking soy then you should start with 80mg.
And if you know that you don’t usually ovulate you can start with 100mg.
Some women change the dose on different days. So they may start at 100mg for the first 2-3 days then give an extra boost for the last 2 days with 160mg to 200mg.
NEVER EXCEED 200mg/day.
As I have said though, use the lowest dose possible for yourself. If you ovulate using 120mg/day stick to that for a few cycles. GIVE IT A CHANCE. It is said that it takes 3 months to get the full benefits of what you are taking.

OTHER BENEFITS?
The following potential health benefits are attributed to Isoflavones:
Reduce heart disease risk
Protect against prostate problems
improve bone health
Reduce cancer risk

SIDE EFFECTS?
As with any medication, taking Soya Isoflavones may cause side effects such as:
Nausea
Headaches
Dizziness
Hot flushes
Night sweats
Cramping
Diarrhoea
In no particular order. Obviously the higher the dose you take the higher your chance of experiencing side effects. Many women take the tablets just before bed, to reduce the occurance of side effects.

DO NOT TAKE SOYA ISOFLAVONES WITHOUT CONSULTING A DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
Breast cancer, hepatic disease, prostate cancer, kidney disease, taking hormone treatments, and allergies to soy, peanuts or other legumes.
Soy Isoflavones should not be taken while breastfeeding or pregnant.
Soy Isoflavones may interact with the following medications; androstenedione, antibiotics, clomiphene, DHEA, contraceptives and other female hormones, finasteride, raloxifene, red clover, tamoxifen, testosterone and other male hormones and toremifene.

Although research carried out on FF has shown that 77% (in 2011) of women taking Soya Isoflavones on the stated days at the stated doses, got their BFP on their first cycle taking them!

KittyVonCatsington · 10/08/2014 19:33

Great news BitchPeas - I do understand your fear and it isn’t so cut and dried once you’ve had a miscarriage. I second what English said - Today You Are Pregnant Thanks

Blueberry Gutted. No other word for it. So so sorry. When’s your next appointment? Thanks

English I’m back from Brighton and going to post my info about Soy Isoflavones. You may not want to take them but it might help you feel in control to read about something that might help. Thinking of you and totally understand why it can hit you like a sledgehammer sometimes – always when you are least expecting it. Let your DH hold you this evening and be kind to yourself tonight. Next year, you will be holding your 3 week old. I just know it Thanks

Blueskygirl30 · 10/08/2014 17:34

Blueberry I'm really sorry to hear AF has got you. Be kind to yourself. I hope you get your BFP really soon.

Katy last month and this month I have been taking agnus castus and vit B6 in a deliberate attempt to increase my luteal phase, last month my cycle length increased from 26 days to 27, which I was happy about and my luteal phase lengthened by 2 days.

gennibugs · 10/08/2014 17:30

spinning fx for tomorrow. fmu should show a better result and it's still early for you isn't it. I will be so so happy if you get a BFP - think ill do a little dance Grin

Blueberry.....I'm so sorry. Don't be too hard on yourself, now that you're getting +opk's you have to get your bfp soon. Hugs to you Thanks

sparkle17 · 10/08/2014 16:55

Sorry to hear that blueberry hugs for you. x

xBlueberry88x · 10/08/2014 16:37

Well im out 2 days early again!!

Pompatrol · 10/08/2014 16:06

Spinning, it's still really early isn't it? I had a 'horrible evap' a few days ago, a neg on a CB digi 6 days before AF due (stupid) and lots of BFNs until AF was 1 day late. I really want to keep testing to check if it's real but haven't got any (have ordered some online). So try not to assume the worst. Though it's awful getting your hopes up too. Confused

spinningirl10 · 10/08/2014 15:55

Ahh Sazzle thank you. Good to see you. How are you getting on, when are you due? Grin

sazzlehopes · 10/08/2014 15:20

Spinning, just quickly popping in to lurk/check up on you all. Oooh I so hope it was just a crap IC messing you about......
I used a superdrug own test when I got my bfp and it was very clear, think they are great for the price.
I have absolutely everything crossed for you for tomorrow morning.
MASSIVE HUGS xxx
