Hi Colly,
Sorry you didn't have as many fertilised as you'd hoped. I do understand how it feels as on our first ivf we only got 1 fertilise! However on the second one they did ICSI and more fertilised that time and one is my DS!! Hopefully, at least one of your two (if not both) snuggle in nicely and you won't have to worry about next time Smile fingers crossed. And you are 'Pupo' once they've been transferred. Grin Congratulations.

Great you've got signed off and can relax and feel you're giving everything to your 2ww. I found baking and eating brownies on my 2ww is always good Wink

Well, it was mixed news yesterday in that only 2 eggs fertilised. I was rather gutted at such a low number having made it out of the 9. BF's swimmers were still going strong in the morning so at least we know they are surviving, but just not necessarily compatible with all of my eggs! I know we only needed 2 to put back & that is what I kept telling myself before I got the call, but now that means should we need/want to try again we of course don't have the option to freeze any, and there's no choice of the best of the best going back in.

As there are only 2 they don't want to wait until blastocyst, so I am going in this afternoon for the transfer. I know technically I won't be pregnant, but it sure as hell is going the be the closest I have ever been to it (to my knowledge at least).

I have been fretting and getting myself into a bit of tiz over my job for the next two weeks. I'm a QS, which requires me to visit building sites - none of which are less than 2.5 hours away - & I just don't feel comfortable going, you know just in case..... I know that there is nothing I can do specifically to make them stick, but I am certain me getting all worked up is not going to help. Also, I don't suppose my mind will be fully on my work. So I saw my GP yesterday & got myself signed off for 2 weeks! Work do not know about the IVF, so the Dr very kindly kept the note rather vague & put the diagnosis as stress at home. Woohoo! 2 weeks of doing diddly, except a bit of LIGHT housework (emptying the dishwasher, that kind of thing), lounging in the garden with the dog catching some rays (assuming the sun stays with us) & catching up on my Sky+ programmes that BF doesn't watch - such as One Born Every Minute (like I need to torture myself!)

(Sorry for the lengthy message, I've switched to my laptop & can type a lot quicker on this than on the phone!).

Here's to positive thoughts! (Bestie still hasn't had her baby yet, I have sneaky feeling she could be doing the pushing out this afternoon, whilst I'm having the pushing back in!).

Cxx

Colly. Well done not to let on about the kettle to bf Smile clever!!! Lol.

Hope you got a call with good news about fertilisation. I'll be checking back for news Grin

OP posts:
Collyd · 15/07/2014 09:10

Yeah, it was on the discharge form, nurse didn't say but as a QS I read the T&C's before signing anything - to be fair it only listed cookers, presumably in case you collapse & set fire to the place; but obviously I didn't let on & extended that to all appliances including the kettle!

We went to BF's sister's for her birthday, I felt ok just a bit tender & lightheaded if I stood for too long, but playing with her 9 month old kept me occupied.

Just waiting for the call about embryos. It does seem a little strange to know that (hopefully) fertilisation was happening yesterday without us.... I feel a lot if this experience is rather surreal. Last November we went to out GP to get our fertility checked & thought there would more tests, drugs, treatments before moving on to IVF, but here we are...

Will report in later with news! (Am feeling positive, my bestie is going in to be induced today & our lives have had certain parallel similarities, so I'm hoping she'll be my lucky charm this week!) xx

starsandmoonandback · 14/07/2014 22:24

Hey well done on your 9 eggs! Fab. Keeping all crossed for good fertilisation. So sad for the couple next to you. How utterly heart wrenching to go through all the drugs and EC and not get any eggs Hmm they must have had follies to get to ec but they can be empty. Awful. But back to you and it all sounds positive :-)
I'll check in tomo for news

New one on me not using kitchen appliances??!! Was it just cos of GA??

OP posts:
Collyd · 14/07/2014 13:23

Thanks Stars, all went well today, they got 9 eggs, so fingers crossed they all get fertilised. Felt bad for for couple in next bed as they didn't get any eggs Sad I know we're going through IVF which is in itself is pretty traumatic but at least we have all the other things going in oumr favour (aside my age), but for the meds to not be working ......

Am making the most of Dr's orders to rest and not use any kitchen appliances!! Brew

Had 2nd scan yesterday, 3 eggs mature so we have been booked in for Monday by which time another 3-4 should have mstured. I'm pretty nervous, more about the general anaesthetic as I've never had one before. Jolly glad I won't be conscious for that procedure, & glad they didn't put me back until Wednesday as right ovary feels like it's about pop as it's a bit painful & as for tender boobs - OMG!!

So it's final injection day today yay!, & Two days off work next week fabulous! Except it's BF's sister's birthday Monday so just hope I'm not too sore or groggy to put a smile on for that. Smile

Ps res, how is your dh doing? X

OP posts:
starsandmoonandback · 09/07/2014 16:30

Res, ooh that would be fun. I need to organise an up to date clamydia test (I think) and the scratch for sept cycle, so must get on the case this week actually so I don't miss my slot again! It's been nice in many ways not thinking about tx I have to say, but knowing in the back of my mind it's not 'quite' over is there! Hope we are cycle buddies. That'd be cool. Grin

OP posts:
resipsa · 09/07/2014 12:10

Stars - have you made any progress yet? If my plan goes to plan, we might go again Sept/Oct. Could we end up as cycle buddies???

resipsa · 09/07/2014 12:08

Just popping my head in to say hello. Back on the DE wait list at Care...not get discussed it all with DH (so feeling a bit sneaky) but thought it best to get the surgery to remove the tumour over and done with before bringing IVF up (again).

Colly - you will have no dignity left by the end of the process but don't worry, I don't miss mine that much!

starsandmoonandback · 09/07/2014 09:19

Ooh colly, all sounding brilliant Smile hope you don't get any more migraines. It was down regging drugs that have me migraines, but they disappeared when I started stimm drugs. Good luck for Monday Smile

OP posts:
Collyd · 08/07/2014 21:08

I had first scan since taking menopur today & all is well. Plenty of follicles growing & my "womb looks lovely" - not words you hear everyday!! Back again Friday for another scan & all being well retrieval Monday - arrggghh!

I picked up the last of my meds & I'd forgotten about the pessary - oh the indignity of it all! I'd rather inject than do that twice a day, oh well, best I just suck it up (oo-er!) & get on with it I'm sure there's worse to follow!!

I had a migraine Sunday, out of blue the aura arrived & then the pain, I hope it was just a one off & not a side effect of the drugs.

Sucking, how did the family BBQ go? Hope nothing was mentioned so you didn't have to release your snarl on them all!!
Coly is right, telling people or not telling people is such an individual thing. I can understand your dh needing to talk to someone tho. Luckily my dh and me both felt similar about our approach to telling others and have always been very open about our infertility and ivf, which helped us cope I think. Your dh's choice of person doesn't found the best to talk to tho! Hope he's taking good care of you, making it up to you a bit!!! Which stage are you at now? Sorry my memory is so rubbish and I should know!

OP posts:
Collyd · 06/07/2014 08:35

Sucking feel free to rant!

So, how did the BBQ go? Did anyone get to see your inner bitch or did your bro-in- law keep quiet?

You've done well to not tell anyone. I know people mean well when asking whether we'll have children, what makes me chuckle is the "you don't want to leave it too late to start..." comments (I'm 37 & BF is 35) as if age is not something that's already crossed our minds!

I don't know how much & to who exactly BF has told about us but in a laddish way I know he said he's "had to jizz in a jar" (excuse the terminology) to his mates & boys being boys I think that's enough information! Obviously neither of us are drinking at the moment which hasn't gone unnoticed, people are probably second guessing why I'm not but they are probably a bit flummoxed as to why he isn't, other than I've banned it! I have told my close friends, mum, sister, BF's sister (who did go through fertility investigations) & a lady at work who has had IVF. However I have told them, whilst they know when & what's happening I won't say whether successful or not until later - although I suspect they will know if it's not worked by my demeanour & the big glass of wine in my hand!! Wine

I definitely have not told my employers. Part of me wishes I could say something as they have obvious picked up that I have quite a few hospital appointments but I don't want them poking their noses in my personal business. It's also a mainly male environment as I work in the construction industry.

It's obviously a personal decision whether to tell or not, no right or wrong. Do go to counselling to talk things through? Let's just hope we all have good news to tell everyone before too long!

Smile
SuckingGin · 04/07/2014 09:41

Of course I may murder DH before any more ticks can get to him...

Can't sleep, so can I rant? Angry

DH and I agreed that we would not discuss our IVF attempt with anyone (well, anyone who knows us in RL - MN doesn't count Grin) unless it worked. Not anyone at all. Not our families, not our friends. Nobody.

Because frankly I'm bloody tired enough of smiling politely and saying: "Oh someday," to all the nice well-meaning people who ask us when we're having kids - as we've been married 2 years, 3 years, almost 4 years now and we're not getting younger, so surely it is time we got on with it... blah blah blah.

So I was convinced that if we were getting quizzed simply because we were married, if we told people we were doing IVF that everyone would then start clamoring at us to know when we were doing it, and how it was going, and has it worked yet and why not and well it won't be long before you have a baby and maybe if you just relaxed it would happen... blah blah fucking blah. No. Didn't want to go there with RL people. Just wanted to quietly do IVF and then (hopefully) get to a relatively 'safe' point like 20 weeks and then very quietly announce my pregnancy.

Well, DH has blabber-mouthed to his oldest brother. Apparently he needed to talk to someone. Well yeah, oldest brother is smart and nice, but oldest brothers wife is just about THE biggest gossip-monger on the planet... and how much do we want to bet that the brother has not told his wife anything about that conversation? (I would not bet a dime myself, because they are so close.)

So I guess in very short order there will probably be a gossip explosion (DH has a huge and close immediate family) and I can expect lots of (well-meant) pestering about something very personal which I DO NOT want to discuss - AT ALL.

DH knows he has fucked up with this (at least he warned me I suppose) and has been hiding from me for much of today... so this may not be a fun family 4th of July BBQ Hmm

I am feeling seriously snarly about this actually, and will probably be snotty and snappy if anyone starts trying to have a cozy wee chat to me about IVF or similar, so here's hoping (by some miracle) that DHs bro has kept his mouth shut. Or they might all just get to see my inner-bitch

SuckingGin · 04/07/2014 08:45

Hey Turq, hope you're doing okay. Is the FB group more active than this thread?

Hope all is going well for you Collyd even if the injections are stinging. I did Bravelle injections for my stim-phase rather than Menopur, but yes, I did find that they were very slightly stingy - particularly if I was impatient and injected too quickly rather than emptying the syringe really, really slowly. I did all my shots into my belly rather than my thighs though.

Thankfully I did manage to sort out daft DH and his bloody ticks. He'd been helping a friend of his with his horses and had been wading about in some longish grass in the corner of one of the pastures wearing shorts - which is like an engraved invitation to ticks in this part of the world. Thankfully he hasn't come home with any more of the nasty little buggers since. They are horrific I agree, and I nearly sobbed the one occasion I somehow ended up with one tucked under a boob. The little sods do seem to like to get into inconvenient spots that is for sure!
