Anyone want to join me?

I'm 36 yo, ttc #1 and very excited about it. It's something I have wanted to do for a long time but it took me a while to find mr right!

l know I am no spring chick so I have some anxieties around that but I am trying to do everything right (eating well, exercising, cutting out alcohol/caffeine etc) and I want to start off optimistic :) am a seasoned pessimist/worrier!

Have been tracking my cycle for a good while. My periods are pretty regular and I thought I could feel my ovary twinging (strongly) when it wad supposed to. This has synched with positive opks so I guess I will soon be starting my first 2ww.

Hey ladies. Can I join?? I'm 37 so bit older too - again took forever to find my wonderful DP.

We are TTC #1 for the first time this week and it's scary times!!! Will await through the tww anxiously as not due until very end of April. Not expecting much but secretly hoping anyway

Good luck everyone

cooperbug · 08/04/2014 16:12

By the way I came off the pill in December and my skin is worse for it, very spotty around my chin and forehead!

Hope it settles down soon

cooperbug · 08/04/2014 16:09

Hi, can I join too?

We have just started ttc #1, haven't started to use opk's yet but think that I ovulated on cd 14 or 15 (last Monday 31st march), we were away for the weekend and dtd fri, sat, sun and Monday!

Got my fingers crossed for a Bfp but I feel that I am going to come on, can't stop thinking about it though. Today I am approx 8 or 9 dpo with no symptoms.

How soon should I test?

tashalou · 08/04/2014 10:47

Hi I'm another newbie ttc! Good luck to everyone! Wink

BlondeAtHeart29 · 08/04/2014 10:43

Hi all,

Another newbie here :-) you might have to bear with me with all these abbreviations for a while! TTC #1, so excited! came off the pill last August after being on it continuously for about 12 years, I naively thought I'd get pregnant really soon, but it's obviously taking its time. Periods are somewhat unreliable, they have been every six weeks or so since August, it's been 8 1/2 since my last one though. not helpful! But hopefully good news soon :-)

Netcat · 08/04/2014 08:44

Thamrin- I know what you mean about not being on the pill anymore, took the last one on 6th March. I am 35 and had been taking it for 16 years. I am loving not taking hormones anymore, my skin is looking great! I am now on a daily pill of pregnacare conception with folic acid- much better. TTC#1 cycle 1, so all pretty new for me. Are you using a period tracker app? They will estimate your cycle and ovulation dates once you have input three consecutive cycles, so that might help?

thamrin · 08/04/2014 08:26

hi ladies! hope theres room for another one :-)

TTC #1, cycle 3 after 10+ years on microgynon/cilest, 29 years old...

still loving being pill-free. amazing not being on hormones and i feel im rediscovering myself! But... first cycle 42 days, second, 32 days... argh... waiting waiting waiting. today is CD15 and DTD, no idea if ovulating but timing seems right. xmas baby anyone? :p

cluecu · 08/04/2014 07:27

Hope I can join in too Smile

Just back from honeymoon and AF has started but was only our first month of trying. Haven't looked into ovulation kits or anything... I'm 33 should I?

Hello to you all Smile

impatientlywaiting14 · 07/04/2014 23:27

Your very welcome jbee 1979 :)

No i Don't think mine would take them either tbh and they are expensive and yes very big. oh bless him, yes mines like that doesn't see the need for intervention.

Ok I keep a diary (an actual paper one lol) and track it all there, including cm (cervical mucas) as this can be an indication of ovulation, to try and see a pattern emerge and establish a cycle, as i have been on the pill for so long. Seeing it all written down does create a clearer picture.

I also make a note of when we dtd and my opks (ovulation prediction kits) results. I get what many are calling internet cheapies (I.C) from ebay, you can get a bundle of about 20 or mixed with preg test for a few pounds and free p&p. I plan (except dtd and start-end of period) to only note these things for a few months so i can establish my cycle and where ovulation falls roughly each month. Then try and relax a bit more.

There are many apps where you can log all the above, the most talked about is fertility friend. I believe you also have to temp as well (I don't do this) and read a blog on how this app made the blogger obsessed so not sure about that one! Lol. Maybe you could look the app up and then decide for yourself. Heres the link to the blog

Wishing you lots of baby dust and to all on here and good luck

jbee1979 · 07/04/2014 22:21

thanks for the lovely welcome impatientlywaiting14 :-)

DH has his pregnacare vitamins, I hope their goodness will seep through his bedside cabinet and into his body, then into mine, cos he hates taking tablets and they're big! lol I keep him going, that his baby-making-germs will be dusty and he should revitalise them, but he thinks he's fine, they worked okay the last time in his opinion! lol :-)

I welcome any tracking advice. The obsession ship has sailed!! I have to recharge my phone at work halfway through the day - because when I'm not with a customer I'm on mumsnet! lol :-)

PerpetualStudent · 07/04/2014 20:46

Can I join ladies?

Im 27, will be TTC #1 a week on Weds (counting the last of the Microgynon day by day!)
I've already downloaded two period/ovulation calender apps & have been lurking on here for months, so Im sure before long I will be shamelessly symptom-spotting & going through nervy 2wws!

I've been trying to keep it on the low-down, normally Im a shameless jabber-mouth when it comes to my life, but I don't want to jinx it, so other than a couple of close family members & my PhD supervisor (had to check he wouldn't disown a preggers student!) Im trying to keep quiet. Which is why it's so nice to come on here & swap notes!

Fingers crossed for BFPs all round ASAP

impatientlywaiting14 · 07/04/2014 18:57

HI Icy121

Ok that's good to know glad she just wasn't thinking (if you know what i mean). Yes i suppose if it was a throwaway comment then it would look a bit odd you bringing it up months down the line or like you held a grudge. Sorry to hear about the nightmare ex, fingers crossed things are sorted soon.

My friend hasn't actually said it happened so quickly, its my view of it i suppose. I haven't been able to give too many details as don't want to identify myself. Only one of her pregnancy's were planned including this current pregnancy. So of course if your not planning, waiting and wanting it would seem like it happens so easy. Its a difficult subject. i think shes trying to be sensitive, at the same time she doesn't really feel she can talk to others and wants to talk things over and i need to return that favor (as hard as it is) as shes always there for me. I don't feel she has rubbed it in . but i know what you mean it can seem that its being rubbed in without anything thoughtless actually being said or no matter how tactful the other person is.

keeping my fingers crossed for you
xxxx

impatientlywaiting14 · 07/04/2014 18:22

welcome jbee1979

IM so sorry to hear of your loss :( I cant imagine how it must feel.

I was on the pill for 8 years up until Jan this year. I wont suggest anything regarding tracking your cycle, unless you would like the advice, as its a slippery slope to obsession (Im already gone im afraid) :)

I heard pregnacare are good, is it the conception ones? they also do a his and hers but OH wont go in for anything that questions the "manlyness"

Regarding work i'm glad your not going to let it stress you and taking a relaxed out look, I know that must be difficult.

I wish you all the luck and baby dust too xxxx

jbee1979 · 07/04/2014 10:52

can I jump in too?

TTC #1 after miscarriage in March.

I'm on CD7 of cycle, I have no idea how long my cycle is after years on the pill - I conceived in cycle 2 last time in a "whatever will be will be" fashion. I wasn't tracking anything.

I had a little bit of mucus yesterday, but nothing but negatives on my OPK. I'm taking pregnacare vitamins and trying not to obsess!!

DH is great, although he's doing 2 jobs at work since his colleague left and is stressing like mad.

I would like to stress about work, but since I lost my little totey baby, I don't care about anything insignificant - I'll do enough to keep them off my back and walk away with my pay packet and add somw of it to the baby-fund once the bills get paid! !

Good luck & baby dust to you all!! :-)

heidibutlins13 · 07/04/2014 09:15

Just wanted to say Happy Monday to all TTC ladies. Can't happen this week for me, but next week will be a potential "baby-making-week". Maybe an Easter baby in the making- could forever tell my child it was brought by the Easter bunny!! Grin Good luck to all!

patienceisvirtuous · 07/04/2014 08:47

Lovely to see lots of new people have arrived :o

Hopeful, loving ALB :o I have one of those too!! My plan is/was to be laid back for six months. Must try harder!! :)

I'm into cycle two now and this is my fertile week. I'd better put the work in :o

Best of luck everyone. Keep posting.

I have told a few friends but they've been great and said we won't keep asking for updates, you can just speak about it when you want. Best way I think...

Hello Ladies,

Hope there's room for one more. My first post on here! :D

I'm 29 and this is month 2 of TTC #1, currently in my 2ww and am spending every waking second searching the internet for early pregnancy symptoms! I'm driving myself nuts symptom spotting. Blush

Here's hoping we all get our BFPs this month! :) xx

icy121 · 06/04/2014 19:45

Hopefulmum - love ALB! I have the same 6 month non- frettage, halfway through now eeeeeeeeeek

Lk265 - hope you are pregnant! Be smug! Its so life-consuming... So a week to wait.. Have you looked at that 2ww website, all these women upload their "symptoms" 'day 1 nothing, day 2 a stuffy nose and a headache, day 3 nothing...' It's total pseudo-science but I find it compelling along the 'oh well now you mention it i do have a stiff shoulder..' lines! Although your heaviness feeling sounds more likely! I tend to get that day before AF, so given you've a week to go sounds promising! Good luck!

Impatientlywaiting - I think she's just tactless and never means harm. It was months ago and I wouldn't raise it with her because I wouldn't want her to think I'm begrudging her upcoming nuptials. My OH has been divorced and had (and we still have) such a fuckwittagy nightmare off the ex, getting married right now isn't on his radar, and whilst I'd like to, it isn't a deal breaker at all if we don't get married. But as such I don't want her to think I'm envious - and then have her pity me. I guess it's the same with your friend with kids. Of course you're happy for her, but, like, come on now, don't rub it in!

I've told OH we're on 2ww now. He was cute about the clearblue sticks "have you got another smiley? Isn't flashing smiley better than a solid one... Like, more excited looking?"

Tbh I was worried the opks would put pressure on him, but we're on holiday at the moment, and I've tried to ensure that when we dtd it's not at all in the context of babies, it's just sex. Lucky that in an ideal world he'd have sex 3/4 times a week, work and exhaustion usually means 2/3 times (manageable!)

The 'happened so quickly' bit would make me rage. When I sent a text to the girls when I came off the pill along the lines of "this is rubbish, no period yet, it's been 6 weeks, honest to god I wouldn't worry if you missed taking pill a day - or a week! - nothing seems to happen!!! Frustrating" I got back "I know people who've come off the pill and got pregnant right away, so think I'll still be super careful". What did I say - tactless! I'm just going to avoid talking to them about it, it doesn't help! No doubt as and when they ttc it'll be automatic and quick and "what's the problem?"!!

Meh!

Beckyd2212 · 06/04/2014 17:00

Hi everyone, so nice to see other people are as excited as I am about ttc!! Bf and I made the decision to start trying about 6 weeks ago, just had first natural AF after 10years on the pill....keeping fingers crossed that I don't have to wait too long for a little one :)

Lk265 · 06/04/2014 14:04

HopefulMum ....I love the ALB! nice one.
Wow 39 day cycle....thats serious patience required!! Wishing you all the best.

Hehehe pregnant or recent Mum's are funny friends to have and they almost all say 'happened so quickly I had no idea it could happen so easily'....bleugggh....dare not tell anyone I am TTC but hubs.

I am in the limbo stage....7 days until AF normally comes, been 8 days since I calculated ovulation (gave up on the OPKs) and googling everything about what early pregnancy/implantation feels like...haha.
I did feel very like 'heavy' like pre-period a few days ago but that's gone. Just gotta wait it out and see but I really want to know, but if I do get pregnant promise I won't be smug!!!

impatientlywaiting14 · 06/04/2014 12:11

Icy121, I'v had that too "try to relax/ don't think about it, it will happen when it happens, think posotive" then in the next breath "are you doing opks, ooh 2 week wait, oh not long now, Have you got preg tests ready, you need to dtd more!

I have 2 close girlfriends i talk to about it. One is without kids, one with. The one with kids, not meaning to sound horrible has always had it happen quickly so i feel she doesn't really understand my frustration as it seems so easy for her but i don't want to say that as i don't want to sound begrudging, as im not and really love her kids. Plus shes pregnant so don't want to make he feel guilty.

Its all so frustrating having the ttc conversations as i don't feel understood and quite isolated as feel im the only one going through it. The alternative though, is keeping quiet and having it all going around in my head or driving my partner barmy with "baby talk" lol.
I have very caring friends who talk about it whether i want to or not so they know im not holding it all in. I do know its all well meant and said with a good heart.

Im sure your friends are well meaning too with there advice regarding ttc as frustrating as it is.
I really hope your friend didn't mean the engagement comment as it sounded. Could you have a chat with her and find out the thinking behind that and just explain how it made you feel, hopefully she's a friend you can talk to without worry.

And regarding spending out on a wedding Yes im with you on that one!

keeping my fingers crossed for you and all on this board xxx

HopefulMum2B · 05/04/2014 17:58

I would also like to join. I am 35 years old, unmarried but with my ALB (made it up - Absolutely Lovely Boyfriend) for 11 years, and TTC #1. He already has a teenage son so is rather more chilled than me, but I am really quite excited. Worked out in theory I could have a BFP as early as 1st May - but not that bothered if not - the plan in my head is to not fret for the first six months - what will be, will be... Good luck to everyone now and hope you all enjoy the first T in the TTC as well! Smile

icy121 · 05/04/2014 15:46

Urgh non ttc friends, who haven't had kids, add nothing I've found. I have 2 close girlfriends who say every few weeks "are you pregnant?" And when I explain it hasn't worked and cycle is long and I find myself stressing the advice was "try not to think about it". At which point I took a deep breath and decided that I'm not going to let them talk to me about it again.

Actually as an aside, my partner and I aren't married and won't be getting married any time soon. Both of the girls are engaged, one in particular has unintentionally (I hope!) said a couple of quite patronising things like "oh well when you're engaged you just feel so much more secure in your relationship". I had to therefore bite my tongue back from saying "when you're trying for a baby, you'll understand!" I don't want to be that person!

Grr tho. Although, I'd rather be worrying abt ttc than worrying about spending £25k on a wedding right now. Compared to that the £30 on plastic sticks is nothing!

impatientlywaiting14 · 05/04/2014 15:10

Hi Icy121

That must be veryyy frustrating having a cycle that long. After last months disappointment i told myself not to want it to happen this month as my due date will fall in December. will have to wait and see if the sods law worked this month. Like you im also trying to conceive #1.
I am only on cycle 2 but very impatient much to dismay of my non ttc friends so don't really feel understood. lets hope it happens for you soon :)

best of luck to you and all
xxxx
