To keep this thread going, proving support to all of those of a 'riper vintage' wishing for a baby...

I have received so much help, advice and support here, so although I technically have graduated, I thought I'd get the next thread going to keep the momentum.

So exciting Green. It's really happening!!

Grizzer · 16/06/2014 22:03

Hi everyone, meds are going well for dd. She's getting used to them & taking them well. The chocolate brownie she has to take the taste away is going down well too!!
Already there is a reduction of protein in her urine & the blood is not visible anymore so I'm hoping she won't need the meds for long.
My reports are almost finished so I hope I will feel more relaxed this month & that will help my cycle.
How are things with dh Gum? Any change with his parents? Sounds like you feel quite chilled about things this month?
How long has your cycle been Grinch? Even if you were perimenopausal it wouldn't make it really long would it? I thought it just meant periods become a bit shorter or lighter but not non existent! Have you ever has anything like this before?

greenlizard · 16/06/2014 18:57

Hello ladies. I am still keeping an eye on you all Wink.

Went for a scan and my ovaries are quiet and my lining thin (2.5m) so we are onto to stage 2 of injecting and taking oestrogen to build up my lining. Still feeling a bit knackered but I am getting some CM back so I reckon I might even be up for DTD in a day or two Grin

Back for another scan on Friday to see if it's working. Our donor is going in on the same day to have her scan to see what her ovaries are doing. Egg collection could be as early as next Wednesday Shock.

Keep up the good work on the SWi front!

TheGrinchWearsStripes · 16/06/2014 17:25

Nope, Gum, nothing. Am now on the longest cycle of my life. Definitely ovulated, and have pmt symptoms, but nada, including another bfn. I guess I'm being perimenopausal Sad

Grizzer and Jass, sorry to hear the AF has come to stay. Good luck, Gum!

Gumblossom · 16/06/2014 12:25

It is very quiet on the thread.
Sorry about AF Grizzer and Jass (though nice that it isn't bothering you)

How about you Grinch, did Af show?

I am just dropping in to mark my place.

Though I wasn't too bothered about timing this cycle, it seems to have worked out fine. I got a + opk yesterday, and O pain, and had DTD 2 days before and then last night. Got another + opk today, so may have to get it on again today, but if not, I won't be bothered as I think timing is fine and probably Oed yesterday or today (the + opk today would be the tail of the surge I guess?). Anyway, I'm not pushing it, what will be...

You still out there Diege?

Green, how's the treatment going?

Calibee, where are you lovey? It's been ages...

jassS · 14/06/2014 17:16

AF here, too. OK with that, I must say. I am not dealing with symptom spotting anymore, I am proud to say! Tested 10-12dpo, neg all and that was all the thinking about it I did. But I still remember to dtd on ov days, that is good thing!

lindamagoo · 13/06/2014 19:37

Arghhhh Grizzer that sucks. I'll keep everything crossed for you this cycle x

Grizzer · 13/06/2014 12:41

AF for me. Boo hoo. I will not imagine symptoms next month I will not imagine symptoms next month. Not much anyway....

TheGrinchWearsStripes · 13/06/2014 10:00

Grizzer, that sounds really tough on you and your DD, poor lamb! Maybe also tell her that you will do something celebratory at the end of the course of tablets?
Well I caved this morning and tested. Not surprisingly, a BFN. And now AF is late which it never is, so she is having a good laugh at me. Wish she would hurry up though, I'm getting friction burn checking! (Sorry, that's real, really way too much over-sharing isn't it? Blush ) I keep reminding myself that actually I didn't particularly want to get pregnant this cycle, as Feb next year would be bad timing - if I can teach to the end of the term, that would make everything so much easier. So I'd like to put in an order for a BFP month after next, please! It also gives me a chance to lose a bit of weight (not particularly overweight, but according to the Fetal Medicine Centre a lower weight helps against recurrence of early-onset preeclampsia), make sure my diet is really healthy, and do some exercise again after the back has settled down.
The PE thing is worrying me, actually. I started a thread about recurrence in second pregnancy and got lots of reassuring responses, either from people who had straightforward pregnancies, or from people who got it again, but mildly and later. They all said that the anxiety was worse than anything, despite being monitored a LOT. I can just see me going in for bp checks though and it being through the roof due to stress Hmm
Well, that's crossing the bridge before I come to it! But I have certainly already got some good advice here - plan on trying the Robitussin and softcups, thank you Linda.
Now I must do some work. Sorry for the me me me post. I will read the thread properly soon!

Grizzer · 12/06/2014 21:49

Hmmm just had some 'lumpy' discharge (sorry!) that's a sign AF is on the way I think.....

Grizzer · 12/06/2014 19:55

Hi everyone, that's for the tips on mission meds! DD is doing really well after the first day of refusal. I crushed them in to a smoothie which she refused after the first few sips but after a bit of persuasion & a talk about not wanting to get sick again she drank it. Took her shopping tonight & she chose a bottle of squash & some chocolate brownies to help disguise the taste - no wonder steroids make you put on weight!! A friend suggested I take her for a smarties mc flurry so she gets the idea of having lumps in something, you then try yogurt with fruit bits, then cut up sweets in to small bits & get her to swallow them. All this leads up to her swallowing them whole which I think is probably quicker & easier.
Good idea to go for 1 stronger one Jass but I have 5 weeks worth & don't like to waste them but when we go back for our next appointment & new prescription I'll definitely ask. I guess they are bigger though? Maybe they give lots of small ones because that's a bit easier....

I'm spending the evening writing reports. Sports day tomorrow so I won't get anything done then.
No other symptoms for me but no AF feelings yet either. Not due til sunday though so plenty of time for the cramps to start.

jassS · 12/06/2014 14:21

Irish, good to hear baby is doung so well and is a charmer! Bet your DH and DD are both so proud of her now when She is finally here! Smiling and interacting already is very good sign I believe for the future as well!

jassS · 12/06/2014 14:17

grizzer, I have understood from pred thread here on MN that prednisolone tablets come in 5mg tablets usually, but they get the 25 mg ones from their docs. I assume your DD has to take 30mg, and if you could get the stronger dose version it should be one 5mg plus 25mg tablet, so easier to deal with maybe? Talk to your GP about finding other pills maybe?

lindamagoo · 12/06/2014 13:39

You are welcome London. Good luck to you x

LondonSuperTrooper · 12/06/2014 13:22

Thank you so much Linda.

I'm going to buy it all online now :)

lindamagoo · 12/06/2014 13:05

Hi London, I'm happy to answer any questions if I can. I used the disposable softcups, I got OH to deposit his sperm into it and come wake me up, then I put a little conceive plus around the rim and inside of it and spread the sperm around also then popped it in, if you are not too tired try and have an orgasm after it's in to pull the sperm up and you can leave the cup in for up to 12 hours Smile The chesty cough bottle is best, i used it from cd 5 until ovulation, it tastes disgusting but worked for me Smile only took 2 cycles to conceive but I never did all this in the first cycle we just plane old dtd then upped the game, anything to try and stop it taking as long as the last time.

Sorry I went on a bit there but it's best to tell it all incase it was the whole combination that worked Smile

LondonSuperTrooper · 12/06/2014 11:37

Hi ladies, I am sorry to gate crash your thread Blush I've been directed over here by Annie to read all about Linda genius method of conception!

Linda I am very keen to try your method as my DH does suffer from performance issues at my fertile period. I hope that you do not mind but i have lots of questions that I hope you can help me with.

  1. Would you recommend the reusable or disposable soft cups?
  2. Which Robitussin is best? The dry cough or chesty cough one? I'm utterly clueless!

Many thanks Thanks

Irishmammybread · 12/06/2014 08:14

Jass sorry not to reply for a few days ,we're doing fine, after a slow start to gain weight baby is getting bigger and chubbier now. She's started smiling and interacting more and is an absolute joy,our little miracle! I'm ok apart from the sleep deprivation!
Grizzer glad your daughter is ok but it must be a pain giving so many tablets. My DD2 was on steroids after a bad asthma attack, though she was a bit older, 6ish. We found bribery worked! I crushed the tablets in a small amount of liquid so she could swallow it quickly and then had choclate waiting to pop straight in her mouth to take the taste away.
Green exciting times, good luck with it all!
Hi to Gum and everyone else, got to run and make up some packed lunch for DD1!
Oh btw, met a lady yesterday whose mum was 45 when she had her last child, and whose grandma was 48!

Gumblossom · 12/06/2014 00:50

Grizzer, I am glad your DD is ok, but 6 tablets a day???That's hard. I've no idea how I'd manage that. I think I'd probably use bribery: my son has a star chart. Every time he does the right thing, he gets a star, when he's got 20 he gets a little something he wants (like a game on the ipad). I guess you could also try popping it on the back of her tongue and getting her to swallow with some juice?

Sorry, I don't have a clue really. Perhaps you should start a thread, I'll bet there are many mums on mumsnet full of good ideas and experience.

Grizzer · 11/06/2014 16:52

Glad you had a lovely holiday Green despite the daily injection. Sounds like everything is going well though - next holiday you may well have a baby with you!!
Things sound totally hectic Gum. Hope you get to have a rest soon x
We're just back from getting results of dd's kidney biopsy. She has been put on steriods for a few months but they don't anticipate any permanent damage or long term effects from the steroids so that's good.
My problem is she needs 6 tablets a day (in one go) & she's refusing them. I've crushed them & put them in juice but she still won't have it. I feel awful as I now have her in 'time out' but I can't have this battle every day for months! Any advice please??

Gumblossom · 10/06/2014 23:41

Oh wow Green, what a fabulous place for a holiday. Sounds like just the thing to do before having an embryo transfer.

Well, I had a nice little encounter yesterday. DS was at yet another bloody a birthday party, and I had a lovely chat with a lady I'd never met before. She had her beautiful three month old daughter with her. I had the pleasure of cuddling her for a bit. Anyway, we got talking, as women do, and I must admit having wondered about her age,as she does look a bit older more mature than the other mums, and she had her baby at 44! I was chuffed to hear of another over 40's mum. And you know what, she wasn't trying to get pregnant! She said it's a bit embarassing as she is a mid-wife and didn't plan the baby.Grin However, she's pleased, and who wouldn't be, her DD is absolutely gorgeous.

As uplifting as that was, I was also pleasantly surprised to not have the usual pang of longing I used to get when seeing new babies or holding them. She was quite fussy (it was that time of the day) which didn't bother me in the least, but I did have a realisation of, 'gosh, my life would be very different with a baby'. Having said that, I'd be more than happy to have one, it just feels good to know that I may be coming to acceptance that I might not have another baby in my 40's.

I asked her about testing, and she said she'd had the Harmony done here, for free as the big maternity hospital in the city were trialling it. I'll bet if I do get pregnant, the trial will be over and it will cost $1000. However, I'd still get it done. If it means no invasive procedure like CVS or Amnio, then it is worth it.

I don't know if I'll get a shot at ttc this month, and honestly, I am feeling very relaxed about it. DH and I still have such huge workloads at the moment, though I am hoping it will settle by the weekend. It means that I go to bed early and get up early, and he stays up later working and sleeps in as long as he can. It really does mean very little bedroom action Sad DH's father has just gone into the Hospice too.So that is a real worry for DH. I think it's more that his mum is on her own and not doing all that well herself, and she's still on the farm, which is an hour away from us. So, along with all the workload issues, he's worried about them. I can't say he's been very easy to live with, but I am cutting him a lot of slack under the circumstances. He probably needs a right good rogering actually...Shock

Maybe I'll take some cough medicine, just in case...can't really do any harm, can it? Smile

greenlizard · 10/06/2014 22:06

Evening Ladies

Hope you are doing well and big hello to the new joiners Flowers Thought I would swing by now I am back from my holidays - I had an amazing time here Grin. I am still injecting so had to rush back to my room every afternoon at the same time which was a bit of pain but frankly not that much of one given the setting! Unbelievably I started bleeding whilst I was there - FFS even when I am essentially in the menopause I am bleeding Angry. I did get a bit worried that it wasn't working so e-mailed the clinic and they assured me that it was normal to shed uterine lining whilst down regging so there wasn't much I could do except get on with relaxing a bit more - more yoga, more massages and a bit more sun and sea Smile. These drugs don't half mess with you - I am having vivid dreams (and not very nice ones) and have started getting night sweats. I feel exhausted all the time as well as looking it!

I went back to the clinic this afternoon to have yet another scan and my lining is thinned down to the right thickness (2.5mm) and my ovaries are not doing anything which is also what they were aiming for. They will ring me tomorrow to check to let me know if we are ready to go to stage 2 (taking oestrogen whilst still injecting while my donor starts stimming). All things being we could be at embryo transfer in about 3 weeks (if we manage to make someHmm)

I haven't taken my temperature or peed on any stick for nearly a month and it feels very weird after obsessively doing both for the best part of two years!

xx

Justpickagoddamnname · 10/06/2014 20:01

Grizzer, sounds like it could very possibly be implantation bleed. Everything crossed in good luck for you!

lindamagoo · 10/06/2014 16:28

Lol Annie do it Smile honestly it's a lot less stressful than on demand sex Wink

AnnieHoo · 10/06/2014 10:32

Thanks ladies, feeling fine now and raring to go. It's so good to find an over 40's group.

Lindamagoo just read your conception method. That is pure genius. I'm so gonna try DIY AI this month.Smile Congratulations !
