Allo ladies! Wondering if there are any other over 35's (apparently the age of fertility suicide, who knew?) ttc for over a year wanting to chat? If so, pour yourself some virtual wine and let the chatting commence!

Hi ladies - Can I join? I'm 40 (still have to type the number with one eye shut!) Started ttc 1st baby Jan last year, fell pregnant first month of trying aged 39!! Sadly had mc in March. Now on cycle 8 of ttc again, the slow progress or should I say lack of progress is driving me mad as expected it to happen easily again. Currently 10dpo and obsessed!

purplemurple1 · 28/02/2014 15:43

I looked at IVF in Sweden (where I live) and its a lot cheaper than the UK and open for brits to apply. I guess you would have travel and living costs to consider, but if any of you are interested and need help looking at stuff in Swedish just let me know.

Ginger- happy for you to do stats but don't mind either way.

Had that feeling of ov the last few days so did a test and got a faint positive lunchtime today so I'll try testing again later to see if its coming or going. Maybe we can dtd sometime over the weekend, prob to late but you never know. Its silly but I'm a bit nervous of getting preg tbh!

Fankletastic · 28/02/2014 08:23

On and thanks Katniss- so you are just taking the wait and see approach for now? A friend who had a lap conceived her first DC the 2nd month after it. When she wanted another she went for another lap and then conceived on the 5th month after it. Good luck to you! I hope it has this affect on us! Although I'm not sure I've got 5 more months of 'wait and see' in me after more than 2 years. AF due tomorrow and I'm pretty sure it will come. Hmm
But hopefully I'll get a plan b in place when I see my FC in 3 weeks' time. Maybe straight to IVF...

Fankletastic · 28/02/2014 07:53

Ginger- I don't mind if you do stats. Think I put all my info in my first post. But only if you can be bothered!

Shellster52 · 27/02/2014 23:44

Thanks for the welcome Katniss and Gingerbread

To answer your question Katniss about what IVF involves, there are many variations but I will say what I will be doing. Seems the rest of you on this thread are not up to the IVF stage so will try to keep it simple. I will start taking estrogen tablets on day 20 of this cycle until day 3 of my next cycle. This is supposed to help keep my baby follicles small so that one isn't ahead of the rest as would naturally happen and then hopefully I get more follicles growing at the same time meaning more eggs. Then on day 2 of my next cycle I start injecting into my stomach to get my follicles growing. I get monitored with scans and when the follicles start to mature, I get knocked out and my eggs are retrieved. It's very nerve wrecking as I do not have a great record with IVF so I just hold my breath with each step waiting to see when the wheels will fall off. I know for us it won't happen naturally so it puts a lot of pressure on the IVF cycle because you are investing big $$$$ and can't keep going into debt so this might be our last chance. Very nerve wrecking.

stubbornstains · 27/02/2014 23:27

Helloo! I've not been on MN for the last few days as I have been hideously, unbelievably stressed, and snowed under with work. So, no time to think about The Big Subject, which is probably a good thing. I've been so stressed out I can't believe it would be possible to conceive this month.

We have been DTD loads, though(only been together 18 months Wink, we don't even live together yet. If it wasn't for our ages, we would probably have waited a little longer to start trying). I introduced the idea of a wank ban to DP, which he found a trifle disconcerting Grin.

I'm getting loads of quite random ovulation pains- from day 6ish of my cycle up till now (day 12). This has been happening more and more recently- annoying and strange. And I got EWCM on about day 7! Haven't tested for ovulation yet so I don't know what that's about...

PaulaFletch14 · 27/02/2014 19:46

Thanks purple don't worry your not insensitive Grin

purplemurple1 · 27/02/2014 19:08

Hi All,

Theres a few on the 2ww now then, and eveyone is symptom spotting and opking like crazy. Glad I'm not the only one distracted at work, looking at conception and baby sites when I should be writing reports Smile

paula sorry if I was a bit tactless, hope your rl help are good and you are able to come to terms with the mc in time. Ignore your OH ex, obv your DH has picked you try to remember that don't let her issues get to you or your relationship.

Quick update on me for the newcommers - I'll be 35 in the summer, I've 1 DS, and recently had a 2nd mc so waiting for ov to restart before I can get back to it (I take hormone tables to ov so have to wait a couple of months).

Gingerbreadlady1 · 27/02/2014 18:04

Welcome mampam & shelster, it's getting busy in our little coop now Grin, shall I do a stats list when time or do we prefer to avoid that ladies?

mampam · 27/02/2014 12:32

My Dh doesn't need any persuading at the moment and is a little more into ttc than me if I'm honest, maybe he's enjoying all the sex Grin normally he's too knackered but seems to have a new lease of life........he's wanted to ttc for a while but I kept putting it off.

Starbright24 · 27/02/2014 12:15

Haha love the story mampam. Terrible when I say I'll see if I can persuade him. 5 dpo but it was a guess with ov so it never hurts to keep trying.

mampam · 27/02/2014 11:17

Katniss :D yes I am slightly crazy! I have 2 Dc 14 and 10 from previous relationship and 1dc 3 with my DH who hasn't got any other Dc and he wants another one!

Not sure if this will help anyone ttc but with dc #3 we had been ttc for a few months and I bought a conception book by Zita West, in the book was a case study of a couple who had been ttc for quite some time and were only dtd for 3-4 days around day 14 of her cycle. Zita recommended they dtd every 2-3 days of her cycle.

I noticed that I always felt really horny towards the end of AF so we gave it a go, didn't dtd again for another 10 days, at the start of a 2 week holiday and dh said he couldn't feel my cervix (sorry if tmi) didn't dtd again for the rest of the holiday as my boobs were so painful I did not want dh near me and I was really narky with him for no reason.

POAS when we got home from holiday and bfp!

Worth a try bonking at different times of cycle as it worked for us!

Katnisscupcake · 27/02/2014 10:37

Hello all!!!

Sorry I was away last night, popped out for a cuppa with a lady down the road and became ensconced (sp?) in a seedy world of long-term affairs and gossip, all related to my DD's school friends and their families. DD's only 4 and it's a tiny village!!!!

Anyway I digress.

Paula, please keep your chin up. You're having a really really crap time but you will get through it. You know you can get PG because you have been, but our bodies are cruel to us sometimes. It's the waiting isn't it... I'm having the same OV problem this month, maybe it's something in the water... Thanks

Ginger, at the moment I'm testing twice a day. Yesterday afternoon/evening I got a slightly darker line than I've had the last week and coupled with what I think was some EWCM yesterday, I'm going to keep going for a few more days - poor DH! Grin Luckily we are laughing about it, especially when I give the 'come on then, hop on' comment!! Blush

Fankle, welcome fellow Lap & Dyer!! Grin I had mine at the end of November and mine all came back clear. Because I've already conceived (2 MCs and 1 healthy DD) they said that obviously I can so it's just a matter of time and my age. But everything seemed to be fine in there. As for next steps, if it doesn't work naturally, we're not going to go down the IVF route. Originally we only wanted one DC and as much as we would love another, I don't think we could afford to do IVF and at least we have DD, if that makes sense. But I'm not giving up yet... Smile

Starbright, fx for you this month hun - 5DPO, how exciting!! Grin

Mampam, you're a wee youngster - of course you can join us!! Number 4!!! Crazy lady (meant in the nicest possible way...). Smile

Shellster, Good luck with your IVF. I don't really know much about it, so what stage are you at and what are the steps that you have to go through towards your next cycle?

Purple, how are you doing hun?

Hope everyone else is OK. This thread is getting rather jolly now - time to start memorizing names Confused... LOL

Starbright24 · 27/02/2014 09:40

Hi mampam

welcome :)

mampam · 27/02/2014 09:09

Hi can I join in please?

I will be 35 at the end of this year and ttc #4!!

Starbright24 · 27/02/2014 09:07

Welcome fanckle.

This ttc is such a rollercoaster for us all Paula. Glad your dh is supportive even if it's not an ideal situation.

Fx for katniss.

far too early for me to symptom spot - but still impossible not to lol. 5dpo but only just stopped having ov pains.

Shellster52 · 27/02/2014 07:20

Well gingerbread, your intro sounds like me to a T. I am 36 and never knew how bad my fertility was until I did IVF and was a very poor responder. I am about to embark on another roller coaster ride of IVF next cycle and would love to chat with others who understand.

This thread seems to have taken off so I haven't read the 5 pages of posts, but will try to keep up from now on if you are happy for me to join in!

PaulaFletch14 · 27/02/2014 06:58

I'm having counselling after miscarriage and have support from local support group for baby loss. But nothing or no one can do anything. I feel a complete failure and not a real women. I was so happy when I was pregnant Hmm

Gingerbreadlady1 · 26/02/2014 20:48

Going through TTc really puts us all through the mill emotionally but if you feel you can't cope maybe seek some additional support?

OP posts:
PaulaFletch14 · 26/02/2014 20:46

I am very down gingerbread lady. My DP is very supportive. But he has two daughters with his bitch of an ex wife so to me feels like it's not as important for him and I know that's not true but I get insecure. What can I offer him if I can't have a baby. Not sure I can cope knowing he has kids with another woman if I can't Confused

Gingerbreadlady1 · 26/02/2014 20:03

notta, stubborn, you guys been quiet. How's things?

OP posts:
Gingerbreadlady1 · 26/02/2014 20:02

Ha! Sex tourist, I like it. We were both a bit weirded out by it too.

OP posts:
Fankletastic · 26/02/2014 19:48

Thanks for the welcome Ginger sorry that my first post was so long and detailed, blurting it all out! I only joined MN 2 or 3 weeks ago!

Lol at your mad dtd dash across the country. It's something DH and I have endure regularly these last 2 years. I often feel like a sex tourist, visiting places I'd never normally go to. Luckily I work from home mostly and can be flexible re where I work. Just need my phone, wifi and laptop and I'm all set!

Fingers crossed for all the ladies on this thread. Just been reading back....phew! :-)

Gingerbreadlady1 · 26/02/2014 19:30

Hi fankle, please do join in, the more the merrier! I'm avoiding my friend a bit too as she's being induced on fri! So happy for her but soooo sad it's not me too, mixed emotions.

star, don't think you're being pessimistic, just organised & if you don't end up needing opk next month, result!

I'm 7dpo so firmly in the 2ww (although really a 12 day wait with my cycles), not going to test till day 14/15 as not too optimistic this month as not much dtd at ov due to being away for work (hence the earlier in thread discussion re: cross country dash, pure crazy ttc behaviour!!!)

paula you sound really down, do you have some good support in your life to help with all this?

kat keep opk every 12 hrs, also best not to use fmu but to test around 2pm (only found this out recently).

Fankletastic · 26/02/2014 19:02

Hiya. Can I join in please? Not technically 35 yet but will be in 3 weeks so I'll be officially old

Been ttc #1 since sept 2011. One m/c in jan 2012. Then bugger all for over 2 years!!! I sometimes think I'm losing the plot, obsessing ALL the time, neglecting work and avoiding friends who are pregnant. I just want this to end! Soon!

Have had all the tests going on the nhs including a lap and dye last month. Katnis can I ask when you had your lap and dye? Did they find anything? I'm unexplained but they did find some mild endo. Could that be why I haven't conceived in 2 years?! They say the 6 months after a lap are the most fertile so I'm hoping and praying that it will happen naturally. Otherwise it's IVF or IUI. So that's why I ask when you had your lap....what's your next step? How long ttc for you?

Currently on cd 28 of a 30 day cycle. Have had mega sore boobs for 6 days in a row but no other symptoms to speak of. Apart from - prepare for tmi- 2 random globs of Ewcm 7dpo and today 12dpo (most unusual for me). Don't want to read too much into it but I'm basically unable to think about anything else.
