quootiepie · 30/07/2006 14:13

mrsbadger - you rebel!

Gobbledigook · 30/07/2006 13:59

No, my children have 'boring' names.

MrsBadger · 30/07/2006 13:19

we always say 'how are we for dogfood?' as we go past the dogfood aisle

we don't have a dog

anorak · 30/07/2006 12:44

But were these people serious?

My brother and sister delight in calling out to each other in supermarkets saying things other people will find odd.

Their favourite is to shout stuff in a broad Brummie accent eg:

'Have you remembered the cup-a-soups Marlon?'
'Neeow problem. Tea-time just isn't tea-time without a cup-a-soup, is it?'
'Would yeeow like to come back to my place for a cup-a-soup after?'
'Neeow thanks Eunice, got to get back to Dudley for a hog roast.'

etc
etc
etc.

They have no shame or embarrassment

I think it all comes down to whether you are a person who then also says your last name!

Once went to school with a guy named Hai (PRONOUNCED HI) Lo. He used to say his full name all the time.

It does get worse for others. My aunt's name is Gaye which is not so uncommon but it certainly doesnt help that her surname is Hooker.

Hope you dont mind me joining in!

Caligula · 28/07/2006 21:45

No they think my ds' name is cool as fuck

mustrunmore · 28/07/2006 21:42

I have done it. In Waitrose. But cheese section not bacon. And several people looked at me like I was trailer trash. Mind you, ds1 was escaping by bike, not on foot, at the time.

spidermama · 28/07/2006 21:39

I think MB deserves a free Ocado delivery for her useful observation and the opinions it gathered.

ocd · 28/07/2006 21:38

Elf1981 · 28/07/2006 21:30

Elf1981 · 28/07/2006 21:28

schneebly · 28/07/2006 21:22

Nope but they might think I was shouting at old men!

Blandmum · 28/07/2006 21:20

after all, Witrose has 'aspirational toiletries' LOL

FrannyandZooey · 28/07/2006 21:20

Oh I love Maude... the worst one I ever heard was "Tiggy.....Antigone!"

Cod, I thought of you twice today - once walking along behind two teenagers and one said "oh god, I'm like, really, like, ocd, right?"

and once walking past a van, numberplate "ARF"

Miaou · 28/07/2006 21:20

I shouted dd2 in the bacon aisle today

Mind you I used her nickname so if people thought it was her real name they would definitely apply the adjective "twatty"

spidermama · 28/07/2006 21:18

Also, a head-turning name in Lidl might well go unnoticed in Waitrose and vice versa.

PiccadillyCircus · 28/07/2006 21:17

I shouldn't think they would .

beansprout · 28/07/2006 21:16

Well, you wouldn't catch me and my glorious vegetarian family there in the first place of course
