Our test for possible names include screeching it at the top of our voice, and saying "oh don't do that XXX DAHling" is an exaggeratedly posh voice. If either sounds right, it's binned.

I do love the name Jacob but on a visit to the M&S in Chiswick a few years back, a v upper class dad with eton accent was standing in the queue with his 3 boys and he sent the elder one back for croissants as he had forgotten them. When the boy was choosing them (about 4 aisles down from where he was standing) he shouted

in ds's football class (of about 15-20) there are 6, yes 6, boys with the same name as him so I have a feeling if I called his name down the bacon aisle, about half the boys would turn around

DS1 not at all, ds2 yes some people think it's chav name I think but there you go,people who have heard of his namesake like it; we couldn't think of anything and Dh was keen.... DS3 depends on whether we used full or abbreviation; abbreviated it's a common name, full (as we are trying to remember because there are sevceral with his name at Nursery next year) we get comments about it being an old man's name. Mind you, we met a Jeffrey this week and he was 2.
