TTC in January

lollzy91 · 23/11/2013 14:41

My DP and I have made a decision to start TTC in January! I literally cannot wait.

All I seem to be doing is looking on the Internet and finding out what I can do to prepare. Such and exciting time but I'm worried it could soon become stressful!

Anyone else on the January bus? If so how are you managing the excitement?!

Hi All, Can i join too??

me & OH agreed it was perfect timing, came off pill on 6th dec so fingers crossed, withdrawal bleed, good cycle and an AF before we begin!! Starting 7seas trying for a baby as soon as finished Withdrawal bleed.

Exciting! Were 25 & 28, hopefully healthy, already cutting down the caffine, no alcohol etc.

Learnt so much in the past few weeks its scary how little i really knew! x

Treaclepie19 · 10/12/2013 14:26

Hi everyone!
We're TTC from January also :)
I know what you mean about being excited and reading everything you can to prepare. Despite being about to ovulate we're holding back til January so need to keep myself distracted haha. I've also started taking Seven Seas - Trying for a baby :)
I am beyond excited, hoping for BFP Jan 24th so quite a long wait!

Hazelbrowneyes · 10/12/2013 13:36

Lolly I haven’t started with the OPKs yet, I need to buy some. My withdrawal bleed started on 30th November and finished on 4th December, but I assumed that because I hadn’t taken the pill 7 days after the last one, I’d have another bleed. Google says this isn’t always the case so I’ve stopped worrying Grin

I’m still so hot, I slept with the covers off last night. Oh and the itching! Jeez, I itch all over, pretty much constantly. I’ve also gained a few lbs but I’ve not been eating as sensibly as normal so that might be why! Didn’t wake up with a headache this morning though which is a relief.

I just want a proper period now so I can keep an eye on my cycle. Never thought I’d say that!

pebble82 · 09/12/2013 20:08

I'm ok thanks lollzy. Hope the planning isn't taking you over too much. It's easy to get so into researching, filling in charts and reading horror stories to the point of madness. There's nothing we can do to change nature and if things do take longer than expected then that's the time to go digging for advice.

My theory is DTD as much as possible, especially when ovulating (roughly aware... have ordered OPK and thermometer so waiting for them to arrive) take folic acid, vitamin D and try not to get stressed. I haven't given up alcohol yet, just cut down... ditto with caffeine... this will happen when (if??) I get BFP.

You must realise though that although I'm all for this fairly relaxed approach as a theory, in reality I think we're all guilty of getting carried away. It's the excitement :) In real life a pretty much project manage everything, this is no different really.

There's nothing I can do about DP being away so will just have to wait. He is managing to be home at weekends so there's still a slim chance. Just wish I knew what length my cycle was as no way of predicting ovulation at all. Just guess working on average 28 days.

My cycle pre pill (10 years ago) was never set in stone but was pretty long if I remember right. Not sure if it goes back to how it was before or not. Anyone know?

lollzy91 · 09/12/2013 19:01

Hazelbrowneyes - how are you getting on with your OPK's?

Coming off the pill can totally confuse our bodies - and its horrendous!

If you haven't had a withdrawal bleed since coming off the pill you could be pregnant? have you tested?

pebble82 how you feeling now? It's so hard just to chill out and relax. Constantly working out dates and planning this and planning that.

I'm not sure there's any time left in my day to think about anything else!!

Hazelbrowneyes · 09/12/2013 13:54

OMG! Took last pill 26th November so have had withdrawal bleed...I'm now 5 days from when I should have taken the next pill (if that makes sense?) and the side effects of not being on the pill are making me want to weep. I have a constant headache and the night sweats? JEEZ. Horrendous. I'm also so hot all the time which is most unusual for me. I'm usually the first to moan it's cold. What is going on?! I also expected to have a bleed because I'm not taking the pill but that's not appeared.

I also had really bad pains a few days ago which have now gone - that wouldn't have been ovulation would it? Not already? We DTD around that time, so now I'm panicking that I did ovulate and then consumed the most ridiculous amount of alcohol this weekend. ARGH. Anyway, I'm going to take it that I didn't ovulate and if we're going on the "standard" timeframe of ovulation on a 28day cycle, I should be most fertile this coming week. Of course, I have no idea if I am on a 28day cycle, I'm just going by my cycle length before I started taking the pill. Ah sod it, I'm giving in, I'm going to buy some OPKs!

This is so confusing. I wish I'd come off the pill a few months ago so I'd know what was going on.

happygoluckyinOz · 09/12/2013 03:49

Ahhh sounds like you are all a lot further on in this process than me! Envy

I did start taking the folic acid a couple of days ago so that's a step in the right direction, but I'm still on the pill so can't even wonder when my 'first' AF is going to show.

Asked DH on Saturday when I should stop the pill and he said not until January, so he's resolutely sticking to the 'trying in Jan' thing and is fairly paranoid it could happen sooner if I stopped sooner! I think because we set ourselves a target of clearing the credit card before we actively tried, and that won't be until January 15th (to be precise!) so I think he wants to make sure it's definitely gone before we do anything unprotected so to speak.

I can see his point as we do have a habit of over spending and if it didn't get paid off and we were super lucky and got pregnant straight away I know he wouldn't be as 100% happy as he would be otherwise.

So my plan is to stop taking on Sunday 5th Jan, have my withdrawal bleed the week after and be officially ready to go by the 15th! Grin

(albeit waiting for first AF, but it will still feel like we are 'trying'!)

pebble82 · 06/12/2013 17:38

Very true. You are absolutely right of course. I will get a grip and stop being a baby ;)

And by tracking my cycle length this time round at least that'll be a good thing.

buddhabee · 06/12/2013 17:22

pebble82 oh hun, don't worry month 1 just use it as a figureouterer lol! i know exactly what you mean - you've had the conversation, made the decision and you don't want to waste any time but remember you've together for a while and you've been happy with that for this long - a couple more months won't hurt!

note must start listening to myself as doing total opposit ;p

pebble82 · 06/12/2013 17:15

So annoyed right now. Can't really rant to anyone in real life so hope you ladies don't mind being a shoulder to cry on.

My OH has just been told he has to be away for 2weeks from Sunday with work. I've just had first AF since coming off the pill so no idea when I'll next ovulate as not sure on the length of my cycle (is it roughly the same as before going on the pill?) but you can bet my luck it's when he's nowhere near me :(

I was trying to be all relaxed about everything but it's hard to know you're about to waste a month.

Now just ordered cheapie OPK sticks and a basal temp thermometer. That is not the actions of a chilled out "see how it goes" woman!

Oh well, maybe I'll ovulate later than I think. Or if not, I suppose another month is nothing.

I need a big slap in the face to chill the heck out! Oh and one of these Wine

rockin20s · 06/12/2013 12:56

buddhabee thats a good idea! i might try that

buddhabee · 06/12/2013 12:32

Hazelbrowneyes - i took folic acid since the day i came off of the pill and started vit d last week,

i have heard that you don't need to worry if you af doesn't come straight back as you can still get pregnant or it may be that you are (a couple of ladies mentioned that)

my fave comment in one of the other posts was 'we all panic when we miss 1 little pill and then when you are off it it seems like a mind game to actually get pregnant' it made me chuckle!

llollzy91 - hope hormones calm down soon or the smoking will resume back to norm lol!

have just actually had a chat with dh - have decided that i tell him the week (lets call it that) when i could be ovulating (and before) and at least then he knows and then the rest i worry about in my little head - i think that seems like a good plan (due to the fact that he thinks you dtd and hey presto)!

Hazelbrowneyes · 06/12/2013 11:39

I definitely feel like AF is due and I guess it might show as I haven't been taking the pill? No idea! Totally clueless. I'm feeling really upbeat to the point that DH has noticed. I'm just really, really hoping that my cycle is normal from the word go, I'm terrified of it being 6 months before I have a period or something.

Yes, folic acid now is better than none at all. I'm very much aware that it could take months before I'm pregnant so I wasn't going to put off TTC whilst I took folic acid for 3 months!

I am really, really excited.

lollzy91 · 06/12/2013 11:25

Hazelbrowneyes - I found coming off the pill awful!! I had headaches, stomach cramps, pregnancy symptoms (which is perfectly normal apparently) I was moody and emotional.

I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one. Been off the pill two months now though and everything seems to be getting back to normal. Thank god! Although when AF is here I am super emotional now, but its a small price to pay I guess.

I have started taking folic acid - wont have been taking it three months when we TTC but a couple of months is better than nothing, right?

January is starting to become a very exciting month for lots of ladies TTC! YAY!! :) I hope we all keep in touch and keep eachother updated on our progress. It's so nice to hear other people in the same position.

OP posts:
buddhabee · 06/12/2013 11:04

happygoluckyinOz we made the decision to just go with the flow too (well dh has so far i am on the folic acid and vit d, have cut down on smoking, drinking caffeine and have already figured our when ovulating ha ha ha - yup going with the flow lol)
he is right i think for at least the first couple of months i'm not going near anything like opks - i downloaded pink pad to keep me amused but that's it i think. i think the stress of the rest of it will have more of an effect at least till we get into the swing of things.

Hazelbrowneyes - my lord my hormones are EVERYWHERE want to shout or cry pretty much every day since been off the pill , think i have been very quiet (not norm) but trying not to get irritated by everything (currently on af so guessing this is the allusive pms that everyone else has had which i have seemingly missed out on for the last 15 years lol)

hope they calm down or dtd will be off the table if i continue to be crazy eyed beast lol!!

Hazelbrowneyes · 06/12/2013 10:09

Has anyone suffered from any side effects since coming off the pill? Everyday I seem to be suffering from dull headaches which are annoying. I took my last pill on the 26th November but the headaches only started this week. I was woken up last night by the pain in my left side - there's no way I'd be ovulating already, right? I am so naive about all of this.

Anyway, I guess we're now officially TTC, although I'm trying to think of it as not TTC yet not not trying if that makes sense?! I don't want there to be too much pressure this month. I may have noted down the date of my last withdrawal bleed and I may be considering keeping track of when we DTD but I don't want to nag DH about drinking this month especially as I'm not being too successful at the cutting down either - I had 1 large glass of wine and 2 small glasses last night.

Oh. Do not google anything. I'm now convinced that I'm going to put on 2 stone, lose my hair, have bad acne and not have a period for 6 months.

Definitely start taking the folic acid now happy UK guidelines are currently 3 months prior to conception and 12 weeks post.

I haven't even thought of getting pregnancy tests or OPKS (I don't even know what these are!). I have been playing with the due date calculator though. This then leads me on to panic that it won't happen for us which is a daft thing to think.

happygoluckyinOz · 06/12/2013 03:59

Hi All!

Thought I'd pop in and say hello as I think we've decided to TTC from January Smile

We've been umming and ahhing over the decision for a couple of years now and decided that there will always be a reason to put it off. We've been together 10 years and married 3 and I was 30 last year - we've bought the house and have stable jobs.... so other than liking lots of holidays there isn't really a reason not to!

I'm still on the pill and probably wont stop taking it until January and we've decided to just continue as normal (so no monitoring ovulation or doing extra dtd's) and see how that works out for us. We aren't in any major rush so don't want to stress ourselves out over it (although I think I'll secretly be keeping a track on an app of some kind Grin )

Probably should start on the supply of folic acid I've had for a while soon, it's just so overwhelming! And what's all this about not drinking whilst ttc? Does it really make any difference? There's no way DH will be giving up that's for sure! Confused

angelicjen · 05/12/2013 21:54

Took last pill yesterday and opk and preggers tests are on their way from amazon. So glad to see everyone else is excited / obsessed as me. Can't wait til we start announcing our bfps!

FrogsgoLaDiLaDiLa · 05/12/2013 21:36

Hi I'd love to join!!

We're sort of starting in January! It's going to be pretty casual to start off with as Spring would be better but I don't want to totally miss out on 3 months of trying.

I haven't told any friends but made the mistake of telling my obgyn last week when I was there for my annual (in the US) and so was subjected to a barrage of tests. 6 vials of blood later, I'm pretty much ready to go but could do with losing some more weight and getting my cholesterol down. Not going to happen before Christmas...

For people who are worried about alcohol and people's reactions if they cut back, I am doing the Cancer Research Dryathalon which is basically drinking no alcohol all January and getting people to sponsor you. It means the whole no drinking thing is totally out in the open for a wonderful cause. I then plan on telling people I feel so much better/healthier etc for the lack of alcohol and only drink on special occasions February onwards. Or hopefully not at all Smile

lollzy91 · 05/12/2013 20:37

It's great that you have a couple of people you've told.

I really am in two minds about telling someone, but I think I'll put enough pressure on myself as it is.

Would love to tell my best friend.. but I don't think she'd agree with the whole thing and being as excited as I'd like and don't want to put a downer on it.

You'll just have to have a 'tummy bug' for a while haha

OP posts:
buddhabee · 05/12/2013 20:22

My best friend (who lives the other side of the country knows) but she has been brilliant, she had her baby 18 months ago and unluck all my other friends she's really helpful on info and has time to chat about it so I told her so can steal some tips! Also told my mum so have someone to chat about it with as dh can only hear so much I'm sure before he goes nuts ha ha! Not telling anyone else but it's going to be a struggle when actually pregnant as we are pretty social people and trying to get out of pub life for 3 months on secret will be impossible ha haWink

lollzy91 · 05/12/2013 18:25

It's so nice to hear of other people starting TTC in Jan or just before!

I cant wait for the new year! It cant come around quick enough. I'm going to buy some OPK's and pre-seed I think this week. I'm sure my DP thinks its a case of just DTD and a baby will pop out in 9 months so when I start reading out the OPK leaflets he will be having information overload!

Its so hard not to get excited buddhabee - I'd love to shout it off the rooftops right now that we are going to ttc in Jan, cant imagine what it will be like when we are actually pregnant! Are you telling people?

OP posts:
Twizzletoes · 05/12/2013 17:59

Hello All can I join the bus? Finally, a thread I can be part of and I'm so excited!! We made the decision to start trying Jan '14 at the start of this year and it has come around so fast! I've bought some cheapie opk sticks and will have a go with them this month ahead of January. Sticky baby dust to all x

buddhabee · 05/12/2013 17:34

well got af yesterday after coming off the pill (middle of pack) on the 1st. Think it is a proper af rather than a withdrawal bleed so fingers crossed can get myself started!! bring on next week (must not get too excited about babies and dh will think i am only after him for one thing lol - right now i am but shhhhhhhhh)

lollzy91 · 05/12/2013 14:06

rockin20s I think I will be the same in January! the 2WW is going to be the worst thing ever, I guess that's just another reason for us to wait till Jan as don't want it to get me down over xmas.

If you do turn into a crazy person.. message me, its highly likely I'll be the same!

Such an exciting but I can imagine stressful time. I once thought I was pregnant (would have been by accident but the best thing ever) and I'm sure I managed to imagine all the symptoms!
