TTC in January

My DP and I have made a decision to start TTC in January! I literally cannot wait.

All I seem to be doing is looking on the Internet and finding out what I can do to prepare. Such and exciting time but I'm worried it could soon become stressful!

Anyone else on the January bus? If so how are you managing the excitement?!

Hi, can I join in please? Dp and I are Ttc our first, but both have kid(s)
Af last month was the 28th, we would "like a girl" so trying to get them swimmers in there early, but ultimately, we just want a healthy baby.
Most months I'm between a 26/27 day cycle, not been on the pill since summer, but have been using condoms so hopefully that's on our side.
I'll be using ovulation sticks, but not 100% what I'm doing there lol.
Done a few so far, just so we can work out what's happening incase this takes a while.
Exciting times!

Hi Kitty,
I've had problems with the boots own brand OPKs. I don't trust them as the second line never became as dark as the control line and I tested from about day 11 to day 18 of my 28 day cycle. I really hope I was not doing the test correctly as there were other signs I ovulated. I am definitely going for the clear blue option next month as the stress of the confusing result has just not been worth it.

I also love it when my DH says things that show he is thinking about a future baby too. He said at christmas there might be someone else here next year, and when I questioned it was the baby we have not yet conceived !

Hi all,

Last month AF arrived 31 days which I didn't think was too bad for the first month off the pill! Now we start TTC. I'm on CD8 and last month ovulated around the 18th (going by the crippling pains I had) but also had cramps on CD6 & CD13. I have cramps today so it's happening around the same date. No idea what these cramps are!

I'm actually now not sure if I've counted properly actually. I'm counting 31/12 as the first day AF arrived - arrived mid afternoon and was heavy-ish. Maybe I should count from 01/01? Any thoughts?

I would love to fall pregnant this month but I'm trying to keep in my mind that it probably won't happen so I won't be disappointed.

KikiThePea · 06/01/2014 10:16

Hi all,

Just thought I'd drop in and say hi! First month ttc and I very stupidly assumed I'd be perfectly reasonable about the whole process and not play symptom spotting (what a silly, naive girl I was...)

Only 7dpo at this stage and already behaving like a loon at the slightest niggle. To make matters worse, I'm sure I have a bit of a stomach bug, so of course every little twinge has me twitching in anticipation. Sigh.

I'm not the world's most overtly emotional person, but on Saturday I had what I can only admit to being a hysterical sobbing fit that left poor old husband looking somewhat stunned. Oh dear...

I'm prepared for a long road, but that sadly doesn't stop the constant hope. All rationality has taken a leap out of the window.

RetroHippy · 06/01/2014 08:01

Haha, previously DH just looked resigned Grin

I was actually waiting for him to say Feb was too early (it's financial for us too, though if we waited to pay stuff off we'd be waiting forever)

I just keep grinning. 'About Time' is my new favourite film! (bring tissues)

happygoluckyinOz · 06/01/2014 07:56

Awww how lovely retrohippy!!! Fingers crossed for you!

I don't think my DH will ever whisper those words, he looks in a state of mild panic all the time at the moment! Grin

RetroHippy · 06/01/2014 07:44

DH decided Feb* was the magic month

RetroHippy · 06/01/2014 07:42

Happy January Grin!

Well, we were waiting till February (for no apparent reason DH had decided Jan was the magic month). Been off the pill since the end of sept and had one 26 day cycle followed by one 50 day Confused. Been on the folic acid forever! Was kind of hoping he might cave in the next few days as I'm on CD 14 so due to ovulate soon and I wanted to sneak a 'go' as it were for January Grin

Then, last night, helped by a lovely film and my very persuasive 'let's just have a baby now, what difference is three weeks going to make?' DH got all soppy, rolled over in bed and said the immortal line...

'So, are we going to make a baby then?'

Eeeeeeeeee!! So excited!! First unprotected sex - I could be pg right now

Didn't sleep a wink, I have been waiting for this for years

happygoluckyinOz · 06/01/2014 01:14

Wow congratulations HippyJess! First cycle too! I think all of us secretly hope we''ll get a BFP the first go but to be one of the lucky few must be a shock!

Welcome babymaynard! I stopped my pill on Friday (yes I couldn't see the point of those final two pills!) so I am waiting for my withdrawal to come along, which i think will be today judging by the monster cramps I'm feeling now.

Today my deliberations are around whether to have a smear test before ttc (last one 2 years ago) and whether I can quit my job and move elsewhere whilst at the same time trying to get pg....

lollzy91 · 05/01/2014 12:19

Thanks Jess :) and a huge congratulations on your BFP!! How exciting!! Xxx

Hi everyone :) just wanted to wish you all masses of good luck this month! We started last month because we figured it certainly wouldn't happen the first cycle and this morning I got my BFP Grin

Hope you all get January BFPs Wink

babymaynard · 03/01/2014 23:38

Hiya ladies I am also on the January bus. I finished my pill on Boxing day and have just finished my period sorry for tmi. I am sooo excited to get started Grin

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated as this will be our 1st.

Treaclepie19 · 03/01/2014 22:38

Eeeek hello everyone :)
Started a month early due to getting pretty obsessed but no BFP lasy month.
On cd 9 today. Really excited for this month. I've been looking. At due dates too as I'm a teacher. Coming up as early October which is perfect for my job. Good luck everyone!!!

lollzy91 · 03/01/2014 21:32

Hi Everyone & Happy New Year!!

I cannot believe it's time already! I took a few weeks away from the forum as could see I was getting obsessed.. but now it's actually happening and we will be TTC.

AF arrived today so hopefully it wont last long like normal and in a few days we can officially begin :)!

SOOOO exciting!! I've been checking due dates if I were to get pregnant first try etc (even though I know I shouldn't)

Still haven't bought any OPK's but thinking I may do this weekend in readiness. I have heard good things about the cheap ones you can get off amazon but Id much rather pee on a stick and not in a cup - silly I know due to the price difference!

How are we all feeling this month? Positive I hope?! 2014 WILL be our year ladies!! xx

happygoluckyinOz · 03/01/2014 02:30

Happy New Year!

Wow, January already! Shock

Looks like DH has agreed I can stop taking the pill on Sunday.... so only two more to go!

I've been driving myself nuts plugging in various conception dates into calculators to work out when I'd be over the dreaded first trimester (we are due to fly to Singapore for 4 days in April and back to England/Rome for 2 weeks in June) and it looks like I'm just going to have to wing it really. The alternative is waiting until after June which I just don't want to do.

So if it happens straight away then I should be past 12 weeks for Singapore, if it takes longer then I might have to just put a brave face on it and hope it's not too debilitating (people cope right?!) as DH will NOT be happy if morning sickness ruins his 30th birthday Grin

Littlebear81 · 02/01/2014 19:52

Happy new year everyone! Can't believe how quickly January as come round since this thread started.

Have just started AF (first proper one since coming off the pill) so am very glad things seem to be in working order (so far so good). Makes it hard to predict dates as not sure of normal cycle yet but just going to see what happens first month. May get some OPKs when reality kicks in that this might not happen immediately if I don't get a BFP first month!

Good luck to you all and keep the updates coming Smile

Hazelbrowneyes · 31/12/2013 16:09

Hi all!

AF arrived today making first cycle post pill 31 days which I'm quite happy with. I also worked out that I ovulated around 17/18th and I had horrendous pains on the 18th so that works out too! I'm not sure if I should count today or tomorrow as first day of period, I guess I'll see how heavy it is today and make a decision from there.

Normally id be annoyed to start AF on NYE (out tonight in a beautiful slim fitting dress) but I was getting anxious so the relief is amazing! If I'm 31/32 days next month then BFP is due 31/1 or 1/2!

bellaboo88 · 20/12/2013 23:19

Ok now, im in quite a good mood tbh, nothing other than the grumps! Pills never agreed with me, used to get breakthrough bleed mid cycle but fine so far! Also used to bleed sometimes when dtd but nothing!! Out tomorrow night so thinking of an excuse for not drinking!! Caffine intakes down, vits etc daily so feeling my bodys in good form!

Hopefully i'll be ovulating around tomorrow, ive given myself this month as a freebie so i doubt itll happen but its fun trying. X

Determined not to obsess for a few months yet!

angelicjen · 18/12/2013 23:14

Yay happy, that sounds good. Feb will fly round and you'll be in a great position to go for it! Maybe a special Valentine's day!!!

Bella, I think it's alright. I have cried at the nativity play, john Lewis advert and strictly but I don't know if I can really blame hormones! I've had the withdrawal bleed so now I'm waiting impatiently to see if/when I ovulate. Keep getting scared by stories from ladies who say it took months. What's your experience been?

happygoluckyinOz · 18/12/2013 01:06

angelicjen - you're so right, we do think about it differently.

Had a very long chat/row/crying session with DH once we got home from work (note to self: stewing on something all day is not a good idea!! Blush) and the upshot of it was that he has not changed his mind, once he's made up his mind that's it, he doesn't back track. He said that once the credit card is at zero (3 weeks to go!) and we've had a month of living within our means i.e. no reliance on the credit card then he's happy for me to stop taking the pill and we'll see what happens.

He said his 'rushed' comment related to me wanting to come off the pill sooner than that and he wanted to feel comfortable with where we are financially first. Not that he felt rushed into having a baby.

So, not as bad as I was making a drama out of yesterday thankfully! Grin But don't think it will be January ttc for me, but should be February as long as things go as planned.

bellaboo88 · 17/12/2013 20:27

Happy surely youre not that far off clearing it. no good if yr sex lifes nose dived, get it sorted asap!! It might help!! Its diff for men, they dont 'see it' till theyre born then theyre blubbering mess!

Angelicjen, how u finding it without the pill? Ive been ever so grumpy but fine now! X

angelicjen · 17/12/2013 13:12

Hey ladies, I just wanted to check and say hi as this is the board where I know you're all in the same crazy boat as me!

2 weeks off pill now, using OPKs, nothing yet but am kind of thinking after Christmas celebrations would be ok. Like you I'm reading everything, have every app and obsess all day every day. I don;t know what I used to think about before this!

happygoluckyinOz I really feel for you becasue my DP is the same. I'm always saying things like 'when I'm pregnant' and 'when the baby is here' and he doesn't even really react. And he never ever says stuff like that, unless it's 'we won't be going on holiday there with a kid!' I'm OPKing in secret and hoping he never sees all the books on my Kindle

But after a big heart to heart I think Ive realised that it affects them differently. We can obsess about what our bodies are up, what to eat, what to pee into etc etc. But for them there is so much less control, except money, which is always a worry.

Hopefully when it finally happens they will show more excitement??!!

Fingers crossed for us all. Keep sharing your experiences, it's making me feel less mad!

happygoluckyinOz · 17/12/2013 00:35

Bella it wouldn't work unfortunately. I came off the pill in August as I thought it best to have 4 months or so of seeing how my cycles went and our sex life nose dived so much that we decided the stress of it wasn't worth it and I went back on the pill after 3 weeks. DH is so paranoid about it happening straight away that he isn't prepared to take the risk.

Although after a conversation on the way to work this morning I'm beginning to doubt his commitment to January ttc Hmm

I asked him if he was excited - he said he was, but in a way that I knew he didn't really mean it. So asked what was wrong and he said that until there was a zero balance on the credit card and he feels comfortable with our financial situation he just feels rushed and can't get excited. He said that's just the way it is. He can't get excited about something in the future that "may or may not happen".

It's the word rushed I can't get my head around. We've been dancing around and putting off children for certainly the past 3 years, if not the last 5! I also thought it was a joint decision as I was just as indecisive as him when it came to just going for it. Now I just feel like I'm on my own wanting a baby.Confused

bellaboo88 · 16/12/2013 16:56

Happy i know exactly what u mean. we were to do same but i pushed for 'month off first' to see how my cycle goes...af's are evil to me, pill was worse as i got breakthrough bleeding mid month every time. i thought id have an awful time with coming off it but apart from being moody its been ok.

Explain about the cycles not just going back to normal & see if u can come off but use protection this month?? Worked for me however were not going to use any, chances first month are slim so i class this as my free month then properly try/get obsessed next month x

happygoluckyinOz · 16/12/2013 06:39

Argh! Finding it so hard to wait until January to stop taking the pill now.... feel like the decision has been made and I should just stop, but DH is adamant that I keep taking it until Jan. Sad

We are going away on Christmas Day and over NY's so thought if I stopped today then I'd have my withdrawal bleed by the time we go and on our holiday would be the 'start' if you know what I mean....

It's only 3 weeks to go but seems like ages. Must stop reading MN and occupy myself some other way!
