Hi everyone,

Im new on here and am booked in to have my coil removed next wed as me and my hubby plan to start ttc our first child together (i have 2 from a previous relationship and he has none).

I would love to hear from anyone who has had experience with coils - how long did it take for your first af after it was removed? How long did it take to get pregnant? Or are u trying now?

As my first 2 pregnancies happened by accident due to missing a pill a few times, in the back of my mind im thinking i should get pregnant pretty quickly but im tying my hardest to push this thought away as it could take months and months and u just dont know. Im just sp excited to get this thing out and start on our ttc journey together :-)

Hi ladies Smile I had my mirena coil removed on 9th April (I didn't have periods while it was in) it literally took seconds to take out and didn't hurt at all. I had a period starting the night of the 10th April that lasted 4 days, not particularly heavy or painful. I conceived on 15th July (I know this as I used opk's) and I'm now 20 weeks and 2 days with a little girl.

After the initial first bleed my periods only lasted 2 days max each so I assumed the lining hadn't built up enough yet to hold a bean but obviously it was all good in there!

Good luck to you all!

i was the same SomeDizzy with my first 2, by 8 or 10 weeks both parents knew both times, couldnt keep it quiet for so long and wanted to see the nannys faces when they found out! it just happened to be nannys birthday when i was about 6 weeks pregnant so i put a pea in a birthday card which said to Nanny on the front (the pea because thats about the size of baby at that point incase youre wondering!) -her face when she opened it was a picture she just looked up and asked if it was a wind up before jumping around the room!

MrsW0931 · 20/11/2013 09:44

really LittleOwlie?! Ok now i might actually ask to keep it, bet the doc will think im very strange for wanting it mind!

I dont get periods with mine, they stopped a month or so after it went in which is making me wonder if it will take a while for them to come back and to be able to conceive even though my doc said i can conceive straight away i cant see how?

congratulations though So Many, bet your bumps getting big now isnt it at 27 weeks - is this your first?

Mrs W I am a terrible secret keeper so our parents and respective best friends know but we are going to tell extended family at Xmas.

Somanychanges · 19/11/2013 22:54

I had my coil removed during my period as they said this was the best way. I conceived 2 weeks later and had my positive result on the day my next period was due.

I am now 27 weeks pregnant. I can't believe it happened so fast but I had the copper coil so no hormones.

Good luck!

LittleOwlie · 19/11/2013 22:46

Mrs W, just to let you know my GP offered me my coil. I declined. But that shows there's no reason you can't keep yours. Smile

Popsicle30 · 19/11/2013 22:36

Haha some good idead MrsW.

Very good luck for a week tomorrow! Very exciting and I'm sure it will all go well

MrsW0931 · 19/11/2013 21:40

Good luck for the 2nd, il let u know how it goes for me -a week tomorrow eek. Think im gonna be nervous as hell on the day and i have to make an excuse up to leave work for my appointment and then go back to work after its out so i hope im not in too much pain afterwards.

MrsW0931 · 19/11/2013 21:36

I think id feel to silly to even ask! Im either gonna buy some conception book or vitamins or something to wrap up or il go down ur suggestion route and make a coil shape object to wrap up!

Popsicle30 · 19/11/2013 21:24

Do you think the doc/nurse would give you the coil? Hehe - definitely imaginative!

Popsicle30 · 19/11/2013 21:19

Do't worry about typing...i know what it's like. My space bar is being dodgy on the laptop tonight so keep checking!

Popsicle30 · 19/11/2013 21:19

Haha - that will be a nice surprise for him. Maybe instead of the real thing you could get a coil shaped object and wrap that up?

I'm getting mine out on the 2nd December. Here's hoping it's straightforward!

MrsW0931 · 19/11/2013 21:15

Apologies for all the mistyping, i havnt hit the wine im just using my ipad and the keypad is driving me insane somewhat...

MrsW0931 · 19/11/2013 21:13

Im so excited for xmas to tell my DH the coild is out hes gonna be so happy - he sai again tonight 'do u know what th best present u can give me?" (Iv been asking what he wants the last few days) "a coil wrapped up in a box, id be so chuffed". Iv told him it aint coming out until jan so i can use it at xmas! Ha. Well im skint after our wedding this year so im having to be imaginitive this christmas! Grin

Popsicle30 · 19/11/2013 21:05

Ooh just catching up from everything today as I haven't had chance. Lots of talk about strings, weddings and babies!

Maybe TMI but I can feel my strings. I check every couple of months just to make sure they haven't disappeared (as I was recommended to do by GP). I can only just about feel them but wouldn't be able to 'tug' on them. I don't think it's recommended to try and remove it yourself Grin.

I've had to get my appointment for removal via the family planning/sexual health clinic Shock. I had it put in by my GP but since then I've moved to a new GP surgery and they don't have anyone who can insert/remove coils so I had no other option. I've been able to make an actual appointment with a trained doctor so I don't have to wait around for a slot or anything.

Ooh it's all sounding positives about BFPs after coils too!

Good luck to all those having them removed soon

MrsW0931 · 19/11/2013 20:57

Where's everybody tonight?

MrsW0931 · 19/11/2013 16:16

oh no, not a nice start to ur pregnancy then :-(

I put on around 4 stone each time iv been pregnant so far so a small part of me hopes i get more morning sickness this time around just to stop me eating so much! i didnt really get actual sickness, just nausea most days in first 4 months.

Does that mean SomeDizzy your telling your family for xmas that ur expecting with your scan so close to Christmas day? How nice and what a nice xmas present for your parents :-)

KatoPotato · 19/11/2013 16:12

Congratulations SomeDizzy!

I swear this thread gives me cramps!

SomeDizzyWhore1804 · 19/11/2013 16:08

23rd December. Nervous! Currently signed off work with bad morning (all day actually) sickness Confused

MrsW0931 · 19/11/2013 15:41

ps congrats SomeDizzy! when is ur scan?

MrsW0931 · 19/11/2013 15:40

oh god, after having 2.5yrs of no periods a 3week one would kill!

SomeDizzyWhore1804 · 19/11/2013 15:02

Meant to add got my period within 12 hrs of removal and it lasted 3 weeks!! Fingers crossed that was just me.

SomeDizzyWhore1804 · 19/11/2013 14:59

I had the mirena for 5 years and had it taken out on 8th Feb. Got my BFP on 26th October. My GP said a year to conceive is not unusual after the mirena so don't lose hope and keep at it. The month I conceived I was also having acupuncture.
